Wow. How the mighty have fallen. Not even a shell of what it used to be. Went on mother's day with 12:00 reservations. Finally seated at 12:45 after waiting in the bar, where we weren't even offered a drink. Food was Hometown Buffet quality and most of the chaffing dishes were empty or close to it. Valet parking was a joke. Waited another 30 minutes to get our vehicle after finishing brunch. Didn't hear a good word from any of the other customers patiently waiting for their car. Not sure if there are new owners or management, but the quality has fallen off the map. Will not be returning!!! read more

The only thing this place has going for it is the view. Yes, it has an awesome view and is a great place to watch the sunset. You take that away and this place would go out of business. I had the 14oz rib eye with rice pilaf and a salad. I asked for the steak cooked medium and it was closer to rare. And the steak quality was not very good. Certainly not a Prime cut of meat. I'm not sure if it was even Choice. Really disappointed with the steak and the meal in general. I considered this place for our rehearsal dinner. The location is fabulous, although I was a little nervous when we were driving up the steep driveway to the restaurant. We were there on the day of the eclipse, and it was the perfect location to view the sky and sunset. I have to say that the view from this place is 5 stars, hands down. There are a ton of tables that are against the wall, and at nighttime, wow. That being said, I would give the food three stars. My fiance ordered the prime rib which was standard. We also got a fetuccini alfredo, scallops, and an order of the chicken breast. Everything was okay. We all got the salad bar which was great. However since our guests are not going to be eating a salad bar, it was irrelevant for us. Overall averages into five stars, but we decided against it for our RD because tasty food was really important to us. They do have a few very nice banquet halls that will seat a lot of people, and the price is fine for that event. For a regular dinner, I would probably just get the salad bar except it is pricey ($17 for just that) and you might as well get a $20 entree where the salad bar is included. read more

I just took my wife here for our 11 year Wedding Anniversary on Saturday. I heard the food was mediocre and the only reason to come here was for the view. Yes, the view was outstanding. We got there a little bit after 8:00 pm and you can still see the orange glow from the sunset in the horizon. Spectacular! But to my surprise, the food wasn't too shabby either. My wife and I sat at the bar because although our reservation was at 8:00 pm, they weren't ready for us. We didn't mind so much. We hung out at the bar, ordered a few drinks and watched the Laker Game. (i didn't hurt that they won the game!) We got called to our table shortly after. ONce seated, we so enamored with the view, the booze, and more than anything.. each other that we weren't even THAT concerned with the meal. But nonetheless, we ordered the spinach dip to start and it was delicious. We were surprised to hear that every meal ordered came with the all you can eat Salad Bar. So we took advantage and although the bar looked a tad bit on the unkept side (food fallen here and there) the options were good and fresh. Another winner. Finally, our food came my prime rib was cooked to perfection! The scallops that came with my dish were so - so but at this point, I didn't mind so much. My wife ordered the NY Strip and she also thoroughly enjoyed her dish. The service was really good (both at the bar and the dining room). All in all, we will definitely come back here soon, We just really enjoyed the atmosphere and food (bit overpriced but I expected to pay a nice chunk for my anniversary dinner). The drive up is scary, I was kinda having anxiety LOL. Be careful road is very narrow and not much room from road to cliff. Once up there it's amazing!! I took my husband for his birthday and it was spectacular. We sat close to window and where even able to view Disneyland fireworks. We had 8:30pm reservations. The food was okay nothing special about it pretty basic. We had steak and mash potatoes. I would say skip the mash potatoes had no flavor. For dessert we shared a cheesecake with raspberry sauce, it is one of the best i've ever had. Price was reasonable for 2 alcoholic drinks, 2 entrees and 1 dessert it was under $90.. not bad. Bar was 100% empty inside and about 4 tables full outside (I wonder why) Parking sign is pointed the wrong way (Or it assumes you know where parking is, they should fix that) Food was so so, the Steak was above Sizzler but below Outback Quality. The Ribeye was a little too tough for a ribeye and didn't have fat 'marbling' like it should (all the fat was at the edge) The clam chowder soup like mentioned in another review was missing clams. (It had way too many potatoes in huge chunks) No eggs in the salad bar, but I particularly didn't care (Another guy in line did) Parties of 2 or less were given tables and 3 or more were given booths (I can't fault this policy) A single toilet for the mens,(3 urinals) (Wow isn't this a health code violation for a large restaurant) Whoemever is in charge of buying food should be changed, they are shortchanging the customers on a $32 Ribeye steak (Outback was $26) read more

I'd have to agree that the service wasn't 100% - it seemed like there were too few waiters/waitresses for the dinner rush. With that said, our waitress was friendly and tried her best. The dinner was great and it wasn't that pricey. The best part is that my wife didn't want a full meal so I just added a 1/2 slab of ribs and a baked potato to my meal for only $10. Where can you get a half slab of ribs/huge fully loaded baked potato for $10? Great views, strong drinks, maybe adding a few more beers to the menu would help?!?! read more

This place is a Mothers Day tradition in our house! We have never gone here and been disappointed. The service is always impeccable and someone from the waitstaff is always there to take plates and refill the mimosas The food selection could use some more diversity as it has been the same for years, but for the price it can't be beat! So this is my second time back here in a while, since my first experience didn't go so well. I didn't have too many high expectations but I was pleasantly surprised with this visit. Service: I had Kassie as my server and she was absolutely the BEST. She made my experience so much better than last time by simply checking to make sure my food was good and addressing all my concerns and questions. She was very prompt and very delightful. Food: Amazing. I had the angus sirloin steak and it was cooked beautifully and the taste was very delicious. I really recommend their appetizers too. Atmosphere: heavenly. I love the sunset we get too see as the night ends, while having a glass of wine. It's a little loud but that's usually to be expected from a restaurant. After it got dark it was a little dark but too much where I can't see like a lot of other restaurants I go to so it was very nice. Overall I really recommend this place! First off I would like to say I LOVE the OC Mining Company (on a normal day when you can order off the menu!) I think their food is delicious, the service is always great and you can't beat the ambiance..... BUT unfortunately their Thanksgiving Buffet was no where near the normal standard for that restaurant and was definitely overpriced! I'm very shocked to see 4 and 5 star reviews for Thanksgiving Day! If I pointed out everything I found wrong, this review would just be too long... so in short, I thought the food tasted horrible, the "variety" was odd (Mexican food...?) That is not even something that is on their "normal" menu, and certainly not Thanksgiving type of food. I would think if they were going to offer "options" they would be a little more traditional or something that would please more tastes... and FYI don't advertise a "salad bar" and only offer "lettuce and croutons" with only 1 dressing choice (other than Caesar) and not ONE item to put on a salad. And I understand Prime Rib is not supposed to be cooked "well done" but it should not be RAW! and asking to have a piece cooked a bit more should be allowed as not everyone likes their meat rare (i.e. RAW). And when it came to time for dessert, (although they were still serving for another 30 minutes) the tables were about 90% empty... and what was left was a disastrous blob of leftovers that had fallen off the spatula of other customers. Went here for the first time and if you want to skip the whole review I'm just going to be honest it was OKAY. Nothing special, the view is very nice but the price of the food is a bit high and it's nothing out of the ordinary. The drink specials are good for happy hour but we only had the margaritas and us tasted like lemonade and Patron. Again nothing special. Also the food felt like it took forever I think we waited over an hour for our food and it was not fun. The staff was nice and the food was okay. On the plus side they have a soup and salad bar that's also okay. Overall I guess it's a cute date place with the view and has It cool little ambiance to it. 3 outta five read more

Went around August of 2020 for mom's birthday. It was a group of about 8/9. We ordered drinks and appetizers, which was limited, if I remember. When we were ready to order our main course, they cane back about three time, telling us that they were out of that specific item. Why not inform us before ordering, or mark it down in the menu that they were out? Instead waitress came back three time, telling us they were out. The last straw was when they came out and stated that they only had enough lettuce for one salad plate. After this horrible experience, we told them we were leaving. They should've informed us they were super limited on supplies before we made reservations. Ruined a birthday. They told us appetizers and drinks were on the house. We left afterwards with one of my worst experiences for a supposed fancy restaurant (somewhat). My sister-in-law sent an email soon after, but no response. It's a family tradition to go here around the holidays! The food and ambiance is great for dinner! Low lighting, woodsy mining theme decor. We always try to time our reservation around sunset and have some time in the bar area first for a drink or two before dinner. We always take a family picture on the deck with the beautiful view. All tables have nice view of the city lights at night! The blackened halibut is always a treat if available. My husband loves the prime rib, and my dad loves the miners filet. My fault for wanting to spend less on brunch. $22.95 here versus $33 next door at Orange Hill..... should've paid the extra dollars. I was looking forward to a wonderful and fulfilling meal but this place just didn't hack it. I do give it to them for the great view overlooking North O.C. but sadly, there was nothing on that buffet that I enjoyed one bit. Even the OJ was disappointing, it was made from concentrate, put into a help-yourself container and watered down with ice, so you can just imagine how the food was prepared. Whats not to like about a happy hour with a view like this...I went last night and since it was yet another hot windy, Santa Ana day it set the stage beautifully for this high perched place, the Mining Company. The winds blew the sky clean and left only some wispy clouds...awesome sunset. Got there a tad early only to find out the happy hour doesn't start till 4:30 but not a problem. Sat in one of the comfy, coffee house chairs and we waited. Right on cue the bartender came up and took our gin and tonic orders....hard to screw up a G&T and theirs was fine. We ordered a combo munchy plate which was loaded with the usual selections of deep fried stuff, nothing stood out here, probably wouldn't order it again. They offer half price appetizers and lots of well drink discounts. Then we shared a small pitcher of mojitos, (that's the only way they are served, oddly you can't just order one mojito, WTF?) I've had them in many places and they were alright here, maybe a touch too sweet....a little less simple syrup would be my preference. I also thought it was a bit strange that they served them in a wine glass, everyone knows Mojitos should be served in tall highball type glasses. The clientele is older and local and makes for a nice venue to actually talk and hear the people you came there with. Haven't eaten here for a while, will have to dig out the ole Entertainment card one night and grab a bite, so stay tuned.... read more

the view was awesome, although you do get more of a view at Orange Hill. still, the view was lovely. i stuffed myself with so much cheese bread dipped in bowls and bowls and BOWLS of clam chowder (from salad bar) that by the time my steak came, i was too stuffed to enjoy it. i kept wanting more and more cheese bread and the waiter would bring us more and more and it made me so happy...and i hate cheese. it's weird. the steak was good, nothing special though, and the mashed potatoes were REALLY good when i ate it with the cheese bread =) we also ordered the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. nothing out of the ordinary. the shrimp was how i like 'em: big, juicy, and plump. read more

I've came here 5 times, service was great most of the time. I love their all you can eat soup and salad bar. I've tried their prime rib, filet mignon, rib-eye and their bbq feast platter. All were excellent. So far, it's my favorite steak place. Their menu has changed so the bbq feast platter, which can feed two, has been taken off the menu :( In my opinion, although less romantic, the food and portion are so much better than Orange Hills, not to mention cheaper. I didn't give it the full 5 stars because the host/hostess wasn't that friendly and the soup (i forgot which one) and rice pilaf can be a hit or miss on the more salty side. My first time eating at the OC Mining Co was everything I had hoped and more. What a great setting for a romantic dinner with my boyfriend. The view of OC is breathtaking! Dinner started off great with some appetizers. The crispy coconut shrimp had a unique flavor to it, as did all 3 dips that came with our artichoke. I also loved the cream of corn soup I got from the soup/salad bar. But best of all was the main course. My crab and lobster were delicious. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor. I would recommend it to anyone who likes seafood! It was actually better than some nice seafood places I've been to. I was very happy with my dinner. Topped off by an awesome mud pie, and equally awesome service, I can't wait to come back and have another great evening at the mining co! read more

Sunday Brunch Buffet - Maybe I'm just not of fan of buffets or specifically Brunch Buffets. The desserts were mediocre, bacon was a thin cut bacon that looked like microwaved bacon, the sausage was tasty, menudo tasty, lasagna was good at the time but I'm feeling a bit queasy from it as I type... my prime rib cut was good bc i lucked out and had great timing...french toast not bad and they had an extensive salad bar I could not get to bc i was stuffed. They had crab legs and shrimp cocktail that I wish i had gone to first.... Based on what I ate alone, I am whatevers about this place but then again I'm whatevers about brunch... Probably one of my favorite restaurants with a western feel. Their Ribeye with a side of broiled scallops is my go to although, you can't really can't go wrong with anything here. Food is good, portions are reasonable for what you're paying (maybe a bit on the high side but not excessively). The views are great. I've also been to several weddings here and it is a pretty nice venue at sunset - the ambiance is a little dark for my taste but YMMV. read more

So Orange County Mining Company asked for a review via a sign at their front desk, So here it is. We went there this past Saturday to celebrate my stepson's 25th birthday. Open table for some strange reason could only place us there at 9:00pm Yet when we walked in the place was half empty. I consider this a communications failure between the restuarant and OpenTable.com. So we get seated right away, nice booth with a view, and proceed to wait. and wait and wait.... Finally I grab another server and ask him to get our waitress. As soon as He leaves the table (he's not out of sight) our server comes up with waters and takes our drink orders and leaves. She didn't ask about appetizers or if we were ready to order, just took the drink orders and disappeared. And we waited... and waited... and.. (yes there is a theme here) waited. Finally she came back with the drinks and took our orders and everyone adjoined to the soup and salad bar. Since we were digging into the salads and soup, I don't think we were as aware of the wait for our main courses to arrive. When they did however I have to say the food was great. from the Seared Ahi my beloved ordered to Salmon my pseudo stepdaughter had (she compared it the excellent salmon at Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney.). My rare NY strip was actually cooked rare (so tough to find a place that can do it right sometimes) flavorful, but a bit tough. So it came time for the bill and guess what? That's right, we waited... and waited.... You get the point. We finally got the check and waited some more till the server came back to take the credit card and then finally she gave me the card back and we were free to leave. I've been coming to O.C. Mining company for about 34 years and the food never disappoints. This time however the service was slower than the 405 at rush hour even though there were not a lot of people there. Such friendly and efficient service here, it has a very warm atmosphere. We came for brunch and the food was fresh and beyond plentiful. The excellent servers keep the champagne flowing and the brunch buffet was easy to navigate. I especially enjoyed the freshly made waffles and the shrimp. The pastry selection was vast! We had a reservation for 8, celebrating my friend's birthday. The staff was courteous. But the food was ok. Out of the 8 orders, the staff got 3 orders wrong. A filet mignon was suppose to be "medium rare," but it was delivered "well done," as in extremely tough. The other order was was a new york steak, it came with the bell peppers and onions (a different steak dish) vs. the correct order which was suppose to be plain, no grilled onions etc.. And the 3rd order had the wrong side. The staff apologized and went back to get the order done correctly. Inconvenience for the 3 people to wait for their orders. If anything, the value is mostly for the city view. To me it was nothing spectacular or breath taking compared to city views from the coast, i.e. from Palos Verdes where you get the coast line, the mountains, LAX, and downtown LA in one city view (again, I am fortunate to have experience such other nice views before.) read more
