I first ate here years ago and it left such a lack of an impression on me, we tried it again while we had some quick down time. Now, I kind of wish I had paid more attention the first time. Being busy has it's advantages, but likely the majority of the disadvantages have to do with eating at places that are not vetted due to lack of time to research and time to travel. The decor is plegh. That's a made up sound for icky. They have red table clothes and patriotic striped table clothes. Things are done up "country-style" like the tulip hand painted on the side of the sugar container and other random bits of fluff. We had a clear view into the kitchen which was disorganized and only moderately sanitary looking. The waitress, who seemed to be of the age where she could start collecting social security checks, wiped our table down so it was nice and wet, then walked away. She came back to stick some napkins to the wet surface and handed our silverware out while gripping the tops of the forks and knives. She's old school, no doubt about it. Everyone had a veiled look of terror on their face as we watched her put her fingers all over our silverware. Their selection of hot tea consisted of Lipton black, decaf and regular to which I was asked if I wanted cream with my tea. I declined. My husband got the chipped beef on home fries, a dish which lacked flavor more than anything else and covered only 1/4 of his ginormous plate. I got the Eggs Benedict over medium. They came out over easy and the mucus-like egg whites slipped right off the English muffin. The flavor of the hollandaise sauce reminded me of a cross between curry and Thanksgiving stuffing. I wasn't sure what to make of that. Our friend Heather, got the only safe thing to consume at the table, at that was the chocolate chip pancakes. They were edible, but not by much. Due to the quality of food and lack of sanitary practices, it's no wonder that today my intestines are growling like a cat in heat and I feel mildly poisoned. Had an unfortunately bad experience. Went on a Sunday morning, and I got very excited when I was seated right away! I figured that since it was a small breakfast/brunch type place, it would be a pretty quick in and out sort of thing. Most reviews online said it was super fast, and most places that are local diner-esque like this tend to be quick. I was wrong. After my partner and I ordered, it took over 40 minutes for our food to arrive. All we ordered was eggs, bacon, and pancakes. I made it a point to express my frustration, as my partner needed to be at work by a certain time, and all they did was comp my coffee... my $1.75 coffee. That's it. Other tables received their food 20 minutes BEFORE we did, despite us getting seated prior to them. I did at one point notice them point at our table and freak out, meaning I have a feeling they forgot our ticket. After expressing our need to leave quickly, they keep telling us the food would only be another minute, but in reality it took at least another 15 for it to get to us. Then, I had them ring us up before we finished so we could leave right away, but my credit card went missing. They took over ten minutes to ring my bill up... the bill that honestly should have been entirely comped. Overall, we were there for at least 1 hour and 30 minutes. Unacceptable. I will not be returning. Not only did our food take forever but it wasn't very good, and even though it wasn't expensive or anything, I would have much rather spent my 16 dollars elsewhere. This was a very disappointing experience. The bacon tasted old and reheated, the pancakes were a cheap mix, the eggs were rubbery. Not worth it. read more

And this, my dear Yelpers, is why I abide by the "no national chains when away from home" rule - I manage to find surprising and unassuming spots such as Orchard Cafe, and then hope to pass along the good word to the Yelp community. I was in the MD picking up a motorcycle with my hubby, when we stopped for lunch. Orchard Cafe looks to be a random breakfast/lunch spot in a Food Lion strip mall, with all-day breakfast/lunch in a homey, no-frills cafe, its walls covered in 5x7 photos of local/regular customers. Service was super-friendly, accurate, and prompt. The menu had a nice variety of breakfast standards, and a full cadre of sandwiches, salads, dinner plates, and soups. When in Maryland, I typically feel compelled to take full advantage of the more reasonably-priced crab and seafood, and the better prices on food in general. Enter the magical sub-$20 lunch we enjoyed today... I ordered the Crab Cakes Benedict - English muffin was perfectly toasted, two nicely-poached eggs, and two sizable all-crab meat cakes served with a hearty dose of Old Bay-themed Hollandaise sauce, plus a side of roasted homefries. I normally skip the potatoes/homefries altogether, but these were non-greasy and perfectly crispy. I also couldn't believe that my dish, with its TWO crab cakes, was only $9! The hubby ordered their chicken salad sandwich on a toasted sub roll. The chicken salad is made with all-white meat chicken, and was neither mayonnaise-y nor loaded with fillers like celery. I decided to come here after the Yelp reviews raved about it and it was pretty disappointing. The staff seems to be pretty overworked...our server was very nice, but too busy to pay much attention to us. We never did get any coffee or water refills. I ordered the eggs benedict which is always pricey, but I wanted to splurge. The English muffin was not toasted, soggy from the very beginning, and the whole thing was cold. This cafe is adorable. I didn't even realize it was here until I found myself needing to waste some time in the area and drove into the shopping center. I came in here to grab some coffee, but the adorable charm of the place made me feel like staying a bit and I ordered some french toast. The staff is very friendly and polite, and the interior walls are decorated with happy pictures of past customers. I got my coffee almost immediately and my food wasn't far behind. Although it was only french toast, it was good french toast, and my boyfriend enjoyed his plate of pancakes as well. Even the coffee was good, and I can be hard to please when it comes to coffee. The prices were great, very reasonable for a diner menu. I most certainly recommend this place for a nice little meal if you're in the area. read more

This was my first time at The Orchard Cafe, and while I had high expectations due to the reviews on Yelp and the amount of stars given, I can't help but feel underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, the staff was friendly, and the ambiance gave you a warm, family feel, my scrapple was cooked entirely too hard, and my eggs were dry, and the food took entirely too long to get to our table. But, again, the staff was friendly, and it was pretty busy so it was probably a bad day. I would definitely be willing to give them another try. read more

I called yesterday morning to order breakfast and was on hold for over 15 mins. I hung up and then called back and someone finally took my order. I was told that it would take 40 mins to make so I waited about an hour to pick it up. Once I got there the person at the cashier was looking around for my food so I already knew something happened... She went to get the lady who took my order who told me she forgot to put the order in!!! I waited an hour and she didn't even put the order in! Didn't offer a discount, extra bacon or anything for the inconvenience. Irritated is an understatement! This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE!!!! This was my visit to the Orchard Cafe, and based on others' reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. From the reviews, I could tell ownership recently changed, and I wasn't sure if there might've been some unintentional bias in the unfavorable reviews because of change. With that said, I went in with an open mind and without prior notions in order to form my own opinion. I ordered carry out for myself and one other adult. When I walked in, I wasn't sure if it was a "seat yourself" place or "wait for the hostess." There was that slight awkward pause at the door, but it didn't last long, as I was acknowledged by one of the employees very quickly, as in, as soon as they realized I was there. The cafe was busy, but not packed and no wait. I reviewed the breakfast menu, which is a basic selection with a few items that I did not expect to see, for instance: scrapple, chipped beef gravy, ribeye steak, and croissant sandwiches. The employee who took my order was kind and polite. I told them I would be back to pick up my order and I left. When I returned 15 minutes later, the place was packed with a wait. I headed to the counter where my order was ready. We both enjoyed our meals of garden veggie omelet with home fries and a side of scrapple, and a bacon egg and cheese croissant. Very humble, cute little cafe. Very friendly staff, and extremely reasonable prices. The food quality is great for the price, portions are just right. I ordered the French Toast with eggs and bacon, usually I have to take half my food home but here I ate every bite and felt really satisfied at the end of the meal. You can also see into the kitchen, and all the food is prepared on a big grill, fresh. Popped in for the first time in a couple months and seems the restaurant has changed hands. Redone inside with new booths (yellow now), wait staff now in uniform, and the tablecloths are all gone. I missed Julie, I think her name was - the fab young lady who always remembered our orders even when we hadn't been in for a while, but the new wait staff were all attentive and polite. Menu, at least for breakfast, looked mostly the same, so I don't think much has changed in the kitchen! My short stack featured smaller pancakes than I remember, but the meal was otherwise fine. I'm sure the Orchard Cafe will continue to be an area staple. If you had a photo that was up on the walls, they now have those stacked in a couple of boxes up front for folks to take home. read more

I know they are busy on the weekends and didn't know if they did to go orders. Tried calling twice but no one answered the phone. Ending up going and dining in. It's a cramped restaurant and limited seating for those waiting for a table. We were acknowledged right away and told it would be about 5 minutes which was accurate. One girl took our beverage order but our server took our food order. Then we didn't see our server after that. Coffee refills took a bit and we had to ask twice for more creamer. My friend adds 4 to his coffee, grrrrrrr. So I blame him for using all the creamer. Food was cooked and came out hot. Good portions for the price. The people sitting at a table next to us seemed to complain about every little thing and that detracted from the dining experience. I wanted to tell them to stay home and cook next time. read more

My fiancé and daughter came here this morning for the first time. They enjoyed themselves very much. He kept talking about it lol He was so excited to find this place. He said not only food was delicious! But the service was impeccable. The staff member, who served them (he thinks it may of been a owner or manager, he had an accent) was wonderful. He came up to them right away and greeted him and our three year old and was Extremely friendly and welcoming. He was interacting with our little one through out breakfast, which was very nice! We looked at the rating and it was 4 stars, so we went out of our way to come here. We ordered very standard breakfast: 2 eggs, bacon, hashbrowns. Food came and we were eating and we tried the hashbrowns and we experienced an immediate taste of fish. We told the waiter about the fishy taste. She told us that they have two fryers, one for fish and one for potatoes separate. We explained the flavor was there because we both tasted it. But she maintained that there were separate fryers. It's disappointing when the waiter argues back. We we are not recommending this place. Hashbrowns were not even homemade, just frozen ready made! We are not coming back to this place. read more

I have been trying for 2 weeks now to buy a gift certificate and every time they say sorry, the manager has to be here. I am told a day and time to come back, and when I follow their directions, the manager still isn't there. It is out of my way to go there so now I'm frustrated. I guess they don't want to sell gift certificates. It's is really stupid that a manager has to be the one to sell it and sign it. I have never heard of that with any restaurant.
