Started off on the wrong foot. I'm thinking this place is a little overwhelmed with a hockey tournament right down the road. Long wait which I'm hoping was worth it. When we were seated it took 5 minutes to get a menu. I ordered a coffee they brought me a coke. Like I said a little overwhelmed for a mostly young and inexperienced staff. For a relatively simple order wait time was longer than expected once our order was placed. The upside to the visit was the food. The food was good. My son was extremely happy with his pancakes and bacon. That makes it worth it no matter what. I did notice while seated the staff still struggled to seat people as seating was obviously more readily available. This is all credited to the young inexperienced staff. I'm sure once this place works out some minor kinks it will be a top notch restaurant. read more

Has the look and feel of an old "greasy spoon". Where all the locals go to have breakfast and sit there half the morning catching up with the community. The food was great! The wait time for us was no existent but talking with the staff they did say sometimes people have to wait. I recommend going here. I finally found the ideal place for breakfast, and it's in my neighborhood. The trick is to get there early enough. Ironically it is a place my late wife and I went to for breakfast in one of its former reincarnations, until the food and the service stopped being good. And although it is still a hole in the wall, it gives off a very mellow vibe. As an ex-New Yorker, I could see this place being considered a hidden treasure on the upper West Side of Manhattan. I am writing this review after my second breakfast there. I had an egg platter last week and I am having the short stack breakfast today. The food has been good both times. My eggs were done the way I liked them and, today, the pancakes were nice and very light! Also, for the second week in a row, my servers knew exactly when to refill my coffee cup without my having to say anything. My biggest concern was pricing. This turned out to be a pleasant surprise for me. My bill for these breakfasts would have been two thirds of what they've been at the Nautilus Diner in Crofton. It even undercuts UR Burger in Eastgate - a place I love but one that requires a minimum 30 minute drive to get to. Incidentally, the Short Stack platter wound up being less expensive than the Egg Platter. With my still working, The Orchard Cafe will not be anything more than a weekend luxury. The service is terrible. They will sit 10+ parties and have no one be served. We sat for 15 minutes, watched 7 tables be sat and no one got their order taken. 2 more people walk in get seated and get their order taken before anyone else. Came here for the first time today and was disappointed by the food and the lack of customer service. I ordered the pork chop egg platter and the pork chop was spoiled. I immediately spit out the first piece. It was rancid. I smelled the pork chop and it smelled awful. I informed the server to let her know. I took the chop off my plate and placed it on a napkin. She never apologized and never offered if I would like to order something else. Infact, I was never given another napkin, the servers walked passed me several times and basically ignored me. One server gave so much attention to the customer sitting in front of me and even began to pick up his full glass of lemonade. He had to stop her. I thought that was weird. The only time I received any attention is when Si finished my eggs and toast and she just slapped the bill on the table. This restaurant is located in a shopping center so from the outside, it doesn't look like much. Once we got inside, we were greeted almost immediately and seated right away. The space is on the small side and there were already plenty of people inside dining. The staff was really friendly and patient with me and my crew (my daughter and nieces--ages 6 and younger). I created my own omelette and ordered a side of French toast, two of the little ladies ordered french toast and the other pancakes. The French toast was so fluffy and tasted great. I also enjoyed my omelette and home fries. The girls enjoyed their food and my daughter CLEANED her plate. The prices were great too, I spent around $35 for everything. No idea if the good is good or not, I just came in to try it out for the first time and was completely ignored by the staff. They weren't overwhelmed or understaffed at all. Went around lunch time for brunch. We were promptly seated by a very friendly host. Not sure if she was the owner, but she went out of her way to say hello to everyone like she had known them forever. Very pleasant feel. The dining area was very neat. You could tell she takes pride in the space. Tables are cleared immediately and guests are attended to quite frequently. It's a small space, so she could make her way around to each guest quite easily and quickly. We ordered a variety of things, that came out in good time. I love coming to the Orchard Cafe! It's easily one of my favorite spots to go to locally. The overall atmosphere is phenomenal. I love a good ole mom and pop/family ran business. Please do be mindful they are usually crowded on the weekends! I mean I can't blame everyone for coming here. I always get the turkey bacon breakfast with their breakfast potatoes. Whoever the chef is he never misses the mark. I'm pretty picky about breakfast potatoes because they are either over cooked or under cooked. They season them to perfection and my fried onions I ask them to add literally seal the deal. Only thing is sometimes trying to just place an order via phone can be a hassle. This place will not blow you away and there is a lot about it that given the location will probably never change. With a full house the seating here is total invasion of personal space. It's just not sized well to accommodate a large crowd. The food is good, but portions can be a bit underwhelming. The staff caters to regulars, and you will watch them go above and beyond for another party, while giving you the bare minimum service. I really only go here for daddy daughter breakfast dates to entertain my 5 y/o who loves when I take her out for pancakes. I've passed by this restaurant many times and always contemplated on trying it. It really doesn't look like much from the outside and definitely nothing to brag about from the inside. My kind of joint! This hole in the wall was absolutely delicious!! We walked in and was told to seat ourselves. A nice gentleman gave us our menu and took our drink order. He brought over a high chair and even helped my son into his seat. Brought crayons and paper for him to color. Everyone was extremely friendly and had a smile. How about I skip all the extra details and just say that the service here was phenomenal, really freaking phenomenal!! My husband got grilled cheese w/ fries, a Chef salad and a small order of French Toast to share. I got the Bulgogi w/ white rice, steamed broccoli for my son and a side of kimchi. My husband is a pretty picky eater and ate every bite of his food. He's not much of a salad person but he definitely enjoyed his Chef Salad. I was a bit hesitant to get the Bulgogi, a Korean dish consisting of thin marinated beef. All I can say is YUMMY IN MY TUMMY!! There was a good amount of beef so I had to take the leftovers home to finish it later. The meat was tasty and fresh. We also really enjoyed the French Toast. No complaints here, just three very satisfied bellies. Price was very reasonable too. Think it came to $25 or maybe a little less. I staked out this location for a few days before making it in. So many great reviews sparked my interest. My husband and I sat down once morning right after they opened. Im sure it's different a few hours in, but we were quickly greeted and drinking coffee by the time other guests stayed popping in. Clearly this is a locals "spot" because their were police and fire, old and young, all greeting each other. I like it. It makes me feel I have made a good choice when the neighbors come in to discuss work or their day. We each ordered an omelette that came out quickly and was quite fluffy. The side selections with toast made for healthy portions and we definitely didn't leave hungry. My mom and I stopped in here a couple of weeks ago. We were greeted and seated immediately. The place is very small. There were a couple of parties in the booths along the wall and two parties occupying tables to the left. We were given time to look over the menus. I ordered Egg Platter #2 - two sausage patties, two eggs, with home fries and toast, and my mom ordered the sausage gravy biscuits - two biscuits cut into half smothered with their sausage gravy. Service was good. The woman working in the kitchen and the gentleman taking orders were very friendly and chatty with people. Our meal was a little over $12, which is definitely cheaper than other breakfast places in the area. The food was good and everything was cooked perfectly. What we ordered is definitely something you could make at home with the same ingredients, but I find that to be true for most breakfast places. UPDATED REVIEW Let me first off by saying that Orchard Cafe has amazing food- their breakfast is always yummy and always filling. However the service has gone significantly downhill since the absence of George and Sandy. I came with my family this past Sunday (yes I'm still stewing over this) before the church crowd - around 9am. We were a party of five and were sat in the corner after being directed by a waitress moving in slow motion. It's fine we can get over slow servers, it's 9am on a Sunday and she's probably been there since 6. What I can't get over is how she came to our table exactly 2 times before disappearing for 10-15min. Now I feel the need to point out that it is not busy but there are a few tables...again not busy just a few tables. Now the tables are piling up and we still have yet to receive service, while our server has been nervously glancing at our table every 5min. We kept looking at her, waiting for her to approach us to no avail. We finally asked her if she could take our order and was sent a different server who quickly took our order. I was getting extremely frustrated at this point and looked at the server with bewilderment, I mean what in the world did we do? Soon three other tables sit and she's happy enough to serve them with a pep in her step and none of the avoidance that she seemed to serve us. I don't know what the problem was (I'm trying my hardest not to use the race card) but I'm trying to be understanding but it's a little difficult when no servers even gave us utensils or checked on us the whole time . Considering their breakfast is so reasonable, it's understandable their steak in their steak and eggs dish is on the lighter side. I actually wonder if the steak is the kind they serve up in Korean BBQ, judging by the thin slice. Their hash brown is literally a packaged hash brown. So again don't expect anything fancy price point. Service was quick and attentive so no issues there. If you come on a weekend, expect a little wait since it seems to be a popular place. I know this because the waiter would hug or give a handshake to everyone who he knew, which were the regulars. I had the French toast combo. It came with bacon and eggs. I also ordered a hash brown on the side. It was very tasty, and I'm glad about that because I came with an empty stomach and left happy. The ending was definitely better than the beginning. This place is pretty small on the inside, so if you plan to go, be prepared to wait during their rush time, which is between 10-12. I had breakfast here today and was very pleasantly surprised. This is a small, comfortable cafe where they come around and keep your coffee cup filled! Need I say more? The employees are all friendly and efficient. I was immediately given a menu and my drink order taken as soon as I sat down. There was a big group (approx 13) that had ordered shortly before I arrived so I think my order took longer than their usual, but keeping my coffee cup full made my wait no issue. The food was good (my basic of 4 bacon, 2 eggs, grits, 2 slices wheat toast). I saw blueberry pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes and a delicious looking fruit cup. Our first time in MD & man oh man! What a great environment. The owner was friendly and so welcoming. You can tell he took care of his business and took care of his customers and THATS what brings customers back;)... Greeted all guests the same , and was so personal! Now to the food... When I went in, the sign said to seat yourself, so I found the last open booth (they seem to be a hot commodity). The tables in the middle were all open. The waitress was EXTREMELY friendly and welcoming. She took my drink order, and by the time she came back with it, I was ready to order. I had pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheese, and scrapple. The food came out very fast and it was piping hot. The meal I ordered was simple, but still pretty good. My ONLY complaint is that the cheese added was just a piece of sliced cheese on the eggs. I had lunch here with friends a few days ago. Look, I get this place is well known for its breakfasts. But none of us was in the mood for breakfast or brunch food. We all had different sandwiches or in one case a wrap. I had the Patty Melt. I ordered onion rings with it. In a word...ghastly. I got all of six small onion rings. They were okay at best. I have no idea what meat they were using for beef but it tasted like something I used to get at the school cafeteria for a hamburger. It might not have been beef but whatever it was, it was totally gross. There was almost zero fried onions and the cheese was American processed cheese. The bread was soggy. One of my friends had the Turkey club. The bacon was overcooked and the toast was bordering on burnt. My friend with the chicken wrap said it was bland and the veggies were soggy. Her fries tasted like cardboard. Again, maybe ordering lunch from a breakfast place just is a bad idea but if they are going to put it on the menu it should be at least decent. Table service was slow and they weren't that busy. It was a bit on the noisy side and the overall place has zero ambiance. I love this place. Portions and price are just right. My son to this day says they make the best pancakes and he's eaten a lot of pancakes. They are the epitome of small local businesses that are few and far between these days. I am so happy they are still here even after the pandemic. I think it has changed hands owner wise a few times but the food is still consistent. Even though they only have one waitress they are always attentive and nice.
