    Cheesesteak Cheese Fries
    Nathan T.

This review is actually a sequel to that dreaded Burger King review I posted before this. August 11th, 2025 I guess a couple minutes after that stop, I decided to stop by Oregon Steaks for some cheesesteaks. Unlike the last review, I actually got my good so I will be attaching photos. Service was great, it'd be stupid if I were to compare it with fast food service, to which I'm not. You can tell they make the food on the house since it took a while, but to be honest our big back asses got several items. I personally had a couple things, cheesesteak with whiz, cheese fries and chicken wings. The cheesesteak was loaded with beef, a little bit of cheese whiz but it was good. The cheese fries were okay, I didn't really like the cheese on the fries that much, but next time I should stick to regular fries. The wings are wings, they're also pretty good and came with ranch and buffalo sauce so that your mouth won't be dry as shit. Overall this was good eats.

Cheesesteak was slab style and decent, but cheese was hardly melted. Italian hoagie was okay but they put mayo on even though I asked for none, kind of ruined the experience.

I came here because I wanted to add another cheesesteak place to my list. I keep a top ten list of favorite cheesesteaks in Philly. Mainly because I'm a huge geek. But it's fun for me to act like I'm a quasi pseudo expert on this stuff. Here's what it comes down to. This is a decent steak. It had enough meat. It wasn't loaded. But it was just enough. I thought the beef flavor was good and fresh. The roll had the right mix of crust and chewy to it. It probably could have used a little more cheese (I'm an American cheese guy). The onions were thick enough and not overdone. It's a solid, quality sandwich. Nothing about it was overly special to me. As I looked at my list of 10 that I keep in my phone (I know, what a dork), I couldn't put it above any of my top 10. But it might have a case for number 11 if that existed. Consider it an honorable mention. But it's a high level honorable mention.

This is a hidden gem in Philly! I'm from CT, but come to Philly for the EAGLES and to visit my daughter. After I took her here, she has yet to find a better cheesesteak that can match Oregons!! Highly recommended and they will ALWAYS have my business if I'm in Philly!!! Love Oregon steaks! Keep making those delicious hoagies. BTW, they are open 24/7!

Philly style Poutine!!!! I had their roast beef cheese fries and gravy, which were amazing. Excellent and flavorful, and it paired superbly with an IPA. My daughter also appreciated the chicken tenders that I had ordered for her, and she finished every last bite. Absolutely going to here from here again to try their cheese steaks.

This place gives you the real Philly deal! Friendly for Philly, quick service. They have a great menu and will ensure you get an authentic philly cheesesteak. Delicious food! Nice, casual dining outdoors to see the Philly sights.

Give me a minute before i give my food review of Oregon Steaks, you'll understand the reason for the build-up at the end. I take my 11 year old son to South Philly for our haircuts, yes there are places closer to our South Jersey home, but I like him to get glimpses of the tastes, sights, and sounds of South Philly every now and then. His Great Great Grandfather came to South Philly from Italy in 1886, his Great Grandfather was born in South Philly in 1909, his Grandfather was born in South Philly in 1943, and I was born in South Philly in 1970. My father moved our family to South Jersey in 1973, but we constantly went to South Philly for family visits and food my whole childhood. So, I feel it's important that he doesn't lose touch with his South Philly roots, there is a difference between people of Italian Heritage that are born and raised in South Philly from the people of Italian Heritage that are born and raised just a few miles over the bridge in South Jersey and I want him to know we are from the South Philly variety. So, he wanted a cheesesteak from Tony Lukes, like always, after our haircuts. I told him let's try another place this time. He was reluctant because he loves Tony Luke's, but I'm the Dad, we do what I say We ordered 2 cheesesteak both with American Cheese, and one Wit. We split and order of cheese fries. We both enjoyed our cheesesteak and he loved the cheese fries. I asked him when we were done if he liked it better than Tony Luke's, he said, "Dad, I think TL cheesesteak meat is a little more tender, but I love the cheese fries, and most of all I loved the atmosphere!" There were 4 guys there hanging out, you could tell right away these guys are Lifelong South Philly. He loved the way they talked to each other, their strong accents and he could tell how good of friends they were to each other. He asked if we could come back after our next haircut. I was happy that he enjoyed sitting at the very clean sidewalk tables and that he was taking in what was going on around us, that's exactly the reason I take him into South Philly. Long, long review short! Oregon Steaks has a good Cheesesteak and the cheese fries are very good. The employees we talked to were friendly and the speed of the service was good. Love the old school South Philly atmosphere and my son and I both would recommend you try them out for yourself.

My friend went home to Philly for the weekend and brought back some cheesesteaks from this place. Flight was from Ft. Lauderdale Florida to Philly. Not a long flight. Amazingly the sub was actually still kinda warm! It looked so sinfully delicious and the smell permeated as soon as they got in the car. It was soft and delicious, a little sweet. A really good tasting sub with loaded meat and cheese. I really liked it.

A local friend of mine recommended this place when I came to town. It did not disappoint. I asked for chopped philly with provolone ordered through yelp. Soft bun low yeast bread. The steak, wow it taste like I'm actually eating steak. Had flavor and fat like steak. Very good!

The guy taking our order was very nice and there was plenty of seating and it seemed like there was additional seating upstairs, but we didn't have to head up there. The bathroom was nice and clean. As for the food, the Philly cheesesteak was massive, but tasted just okay. It seemed quite heavy on the bread. I think my husband maybe ordered wrong as he should've gotten the cheese whiz or maybe gotten the one with peppers. We've definitely had better cheesesteaks. The waffle fries were fries: tasty and delicious. My MIL's caprese salad was interesting. It was atop a bed of greens which was unexpected. It was also $15 which seemed a little extravagant for what it was. Overall, it was a decent meal and tasty. So here's how it works. it's a fast paced doorway where you stand on the left side to place your order. when you get to the front you type in your name and phone number then the person behind the counter takes your order. what to get? our friend said: Cheesesteak with Cooper sharp cheese, fried onions, and long hots (can get those on the side if you don't know if you like long hots) Most of their pizzas are great. The upside down is a classic (I like half sausage half pepperoni) But stars are the cheesesteaks took his advice and he did not steer us wrong! once we placed the order we're told to hang out and when they text you you get in the line on the right side for pick up. tell them your name and they ring you up! no where to sit in angelo's, so most people go back to their car or sit on the sidewalk. you do have to eat it HOT. okay i have to admit i grew up eating great steak in the mall and loved it. this is not great steak but a seeded bun with MEAT and i dunno is cooper cheese like cream cheese? long hots were like long jalapeños. it was good! the bread made it standout! the pizza was a great detroit pizza with an great crisp crunch on the edge. so yum! another spot i hope we can visit when we're in town!

John's has occupied the same South Philadelphia corner since 1930 and is still operated by the third generation of the Bucci family. Despite its reputation, we only waited in line for a few minutes. I ordered the namesake roast pork sandwich, while my girlfriend chose the cheesesteak. After ordering, you wait for your name to be called and then pick up your sandwiches, drinks, and chips. Seating is available in a partially enclosed indoor-outdoor tent, which thankfully had heat during our winter visit. Our sandwiches arrived piping hot--you could see steam rising from them as we unwrapped them. The roast pork was incredibly juicy, flavorful, and tender. My girlfriend normally does not care for pork, but even she loved it. She was equally impressed with her cheesesteak. We both ordered footlong sandwiches but could only finish about half. The portions are extremely generous, so arrive hungry or prepare to take leftovers with you. This was hands down one of the best sandwiches I have eaten in quite some time. Our lunch also included a brief culinary crisis. An out-of-town visitor approached the counter and demanded a "Philadelphia-style hot dog." The employees politely explained that they did not serve hot dogs but offered to prepare something resembling a roast-pork-sandwich-style hot dog. The man became offended, declared that he would never return, and stormed away. As we were leaving, we saw the same man getting out of his car wearing a fake mustache. Apparently, his hunger had defeated his pride, and the disguise allowed him to return for the roast pork sandwich without technically breaking his vow. The mustache fooled no one, but we respected the effort. John's Roast Pork serves enormous, piping-hot sandwiches packed with flavor. The quick service, heated seating, and delicious food made it an excellent winter stop. We will absolutely return.

I live an hour away from Verona so when I heard this place was only a 15 min drive away from our hike, I knew I had to stop by. The well known Verona's did not disappoint. Unique to this pizzeria, the pizzas AND cheesesteaks are award winning. The wife and I ordered one of each. When we pulled up, this place was packed for 12PM. It hustlin and busslin! I ordered at the desk and waited maybe 25 mins (not bad at all for ordering in the spot and with the place being busy). Pizza: we ordered the "Hot Honey" at $27. We attacked this thing within 2 minutes of coming out the oven. Incredible dough with depth and texture. Perfect balance of sweet (sauce/honey) and savory (pepperonis/grated parm). Topped with fresh basil and hot honey. I wished there was more hot honey but to each their own. Elite pizza!! I highly recommend Cheesesteak ($18): we ordered it with fried onions and Cooper Sharp. Delicious bread, I'm assuming it's home made and if it's not it's definitely high quality bread. Tender ribeye steak chopped and mixed beautifully with the cheese and onions. Meaty sandwich for sure. I prefer my cheesesteaks a bit more cheesier but I was a happy camper as was my wife. All in all, this joint is pumping out top tier "pizzeria food". The Original Pat's King of Steaks is located in South Philly, specifically in the Passyunk Square neighborhood. It sits at the intersection of East Passyunk, South 9th, and Wharton. The building has many different signs and lights that will let you know that you are in the correct place. Since this is in the city, parking can be somewhat tricky. There are times I have had to circle around, or get whomever I was with to drop me off and have them come back. However, sometimes I have secured street parking not too far away. This will just depend on the time of day, and really the luck of the draw, if you are able to easily locate parking. This is an outdoor stand, meaning there is no inside to enter. You will order at the counter, and food is packaged to-go. However, there are some tables surrounding the building that you can dine at. They are all under the roof overhang, so you will be somewhat protected from the elements. On this day, it was not terribly busy. I really did not have to wait in any kind of line before being able to place my order. This was around 4:00 on a Saturday in September. First, I took some time to look over the menu posted near the sidewalk. There is also a helpful guide on "how to order a steak," for those that are unfamiliar. When it was my first time here, I actually found the humorous display very helpful. I placed my order for two classic Cheesesteak Wit, made with Cheez Whiz. When ordering, you specify if you want Wit (with onion) or Wit-Out (no onion). Given that I was wanting to try the most authentic sandwich I could, I opted for the onions and the traditional Cheez Whiz. My sandwiches only took a minute or so to be ready. As stated, it was not busy, and they are able to whip up these sandwiches rather quickly. I ended up taking my sandwiches to-go, and having them for meals the next few days. They reheat well, and have good flavor. I like having the onions on it for an added texture. Pricing is not terrible. Pat's is more expensive than Geno's by $2 for the same sandwich. My total was $36 after tax for the two sandwiches, making them $18 each. You definitely are paying for the experience and the novelty that is coming to this famous corner of Philadelphia. But, this price is not out of the ballpark of other places in the area. The sandwich is a decent size, and you can definitely get two meals out of it if you are eating it by yourself. So, all that considering, it is a fair value for what you pay. It seemed like most menu items were $20 or under. FYI, they take both cash and card. The staff are quick and efficient. However, it will not be the most friendly or pleasant experience, especially if you do not know how to order. I am not saying that the experience was poor by any means, but be aware that this is not Disney World and they will not be overly kind to you at the order window. Being from Pittsburgh, I had never had a true Philadelphia Cheesesteak sandwich until a few years ago when I visited for the first time. Since that trip, I typically make it a point to stop and get a few sandwiches to take back home with me. I enjoy coming to Pat's for the atmosphere, and the true taste of Philadelphia. I recommend giving it a try at least once, just to say you have had it. Plus, the sandwiches are pretty tasty, too. I will definitely be back here on future trips to South Philly.
