Come here for the gelato. Everything else here is good. I've had paninis, cakes, and pastries here. But, the gelato is what sets Oriens apart. I've been away a couple of years and this last time I was back, the gelato was not as amazing as I remembered it being. I don't know if it was just the batch or if they're using a mix instead of from scratch ingredients. Awesome Gelato!!! Amazing Italian cookies and pastries! Their soup and sandwiches are great! Down fall is they have extremely slow service. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes to get a sandwich. Be prepared to wait, but the food is great! read more

I came here only based on gelato reviews since that was what I was after--- everyone, the gelato was/is amazing! I scarfed mine down in no time and ended up getting a pint to go. At first I came to try the gelato. It was better than some I have had in Italy. My baseline for taste and consistency. Creamy, flavorful, and thick and many flavors to choose from. Then I came for dinner. The pasta, a ravioli, was a good portion and fresh not to mention delicious. I have taken out many of their pastries and, once again, fresh and mouth watering tasty. Hands down the best place in Greece. Its been open for so long. The owner is great. Dessert selection is insane. You want to try everything. Food is authentic Italian. The real deal. Then there's the gelato. Oh, my!!! Now, let me be clear....this is not just ice cream in silver trays and being trendy calling it gelato. It's actually gelato. One of the ONLY places in the area to find it. Reasonable prices. You will want to,come back a million times. If you are a coffee drinker, they have some really different stuff. I have gone to this restaurant several times. I used to love it. One thing that upsets me more than anything is when your restaurant has high prices and the quality stinks. Today I was shocked by what was served. Lentil soup and a salad. Soup was awful, no taste, I took one spoonful and returned it to the kitchen. Salad was ok, not huge because it was a combo. Salad is listed as caprese. Two thinly sliced tomatoes, hard, and two thin tiny slices of mozzarella. I ate it but I was angry the whole entire time that I ate it because I was thinking of the price they charged me. Waitress said she could give me a free pastry but I was hungry and mad so I left. As I said I was extremely shocked by today's quality of food. Going back will be something I have to think about. read more

Let me preface by saying the only reason I gave one star was because I HAD to give at least that in order to write this. I didn't want to give any stars! My friend and my cousin suggested we go to your restaurant on Thursday evening July 6th.  I came all the way from West Webster to go to your cafe.  We had dinner and dessert, AND put money in the tip jar.  We decided to try to go sit outside for a while after that.  They were setting up for Karoke (which we did not know about before we came there.)  Coincidentally, the person that was doing the karaoke is a very good friend of mine that I have known for many years. I didn't even know he was gong to be doing that there, so I was so surprised and happy to be able to sit and watch. All of the tables had reserved signs on them. However, we saw a very small table at the end of the aisle with NO sign on it saying reserved.  So we sat there.  After about 5 minutes, a waitress came over and told us (very rudely) we could not sit there, that we have to buy dinner to sit there.  We said we just had dinner INSIDE.  She said - that doesn't matter!  We said, well we will buy some drinks.  She said NO you have to have dinner.  I again said - we JUST HAD dinner AND dessert inside!!  She said that doesn't matter.  Those are my orders.   LET me tell you how disrespectful and how RUDE that was to treat us in such a manner.   We then got up and she immediately started rearranging things and THEN put a reserved sign on the table.  We had just been talking about coming back for dinner next week, with about 5 more people ....but let me tell you, we will NEVER come back there again.  Your "customer service" is appalling (not to mention, even the person who took our order for dinner, wasn't the friendliest person either.)  WE are all of Italian descent and we are embarrassed and ashamed that an Italian restaurant has such abhorrent ways of treating their PAYING customers.  And we will be sure to tell anyone who is ever interested in going to Oriens, the story of how rudely and disrespectfully we were treated.  You need some serious education in how to treat your paying customers.  Very, very bad manners and etiquette.  CLASSLESS.  I have never been treated like that at any restaurant.  And my husband and I go out to dinner all the time at upscale restaurants.   I could not believe how badly we were treated.  AND WE had just had dinner there!! Unbelievable!!  The fact that we had just had dinner and dessert there, should have been considered to be able to sit there and watch.  You acted as though we just sat down and didn't buy anything to eat or drink there.  Such unbelievably RUDE treatment!!! You treated us like we were bag ladies taking up space. Horrendous "customer care." Very insulting treatment to your paying customers. I guess we should have come with lawn chairs, since we saw many people lined up with lawn chairs all around your cafe listening to the karoke. I guess that's ok. But paying customers get booted out! Disgraceful! You really need to be taught basic manners and customer service. read more

Five stars all the way. You wouldn't expect this kind of food and service in a strip mall but here it is. I have been stopping in for lunch from time to time over the last few years but today I tried it all. Appitizer, meal, cookies, rum baba, gelato and espresso with the owner. This place is not just about great food but the staff makes it a great experience. I love it.. This place has such delicious food. Their ice cream is amazing (and I think home made), and the hot chocolate is delicious. It's very thick though. They're a little expensive, but I feel like it's worth it. The place is a little small and they tend to get rushes in the evening. Oriens is a very popular, Italian cafe. When you walk in it feels fancy inside and all the desserts look scrumptious. However if you have nut allergies, you honestly don't have many dessert options. I end up getting the same couple cookies that are basically mini sugar cookies. But, they are pretty good. Today my family and I had dinner there for thr first time. I ordered the baked lasagna and wow was it tasty. Normally I only like my Mom's homemade lasagna. But Oriens was pretty close to my standard of excellence for lasagna. Typically this happens because restaurants use yucky meatballs or stink at making them. Also I tried my brother's chicken parm, and that was very tasty too! Lastly I ordered cafe mocha gelato, and it tasted like a more chocolatey version of a Starbucks java chip. Which means, it was delicious!! read more

Orien's Cafe is a great place to go for a bite to eat, a cup of coffee, or dessert. It's a relaxed, casual place that's great for quick outings or meetings. It offers a large menu of entrees, but probably makes most of its business from desserts. The cakes, gelatos, and other baked goods are excellent and unique. They also offer a bunch of different coffees and flavors daily. They're also in a great location! The place can get crowded, but I think they own the building next door for overflow and parties. read more

Boyfriend and I frequent this cafe, so I believe a review is in order. We have yet to try the food because we usually come for the gelato. It's amazing. I've never had gelato from Italy, so I'm not sure how it compares, or if it's truly "authentic." I'm not Italian, either, but I know for sure it tastes better than regular ice cream. Just got back from Oriens. Lots of gelato choices. Lots of pastry choices. Some seating, not enough napkins. One bathroom. One bathroom. One bathroom. At least they're transgender compliant. I got the dark chocolate gelato and it was rich, dark chocolately, and very good. Everyone enjoyed their gelatos. My wife also picked up a few boxes of pastries which I have yet to try, but they look good. Origen's food and desserts are great. However, we have been ordering lunch from them for a while and have seen a steady decline in the portions of the meals. Especially in regards to salad toppings. I am always willing to spend extra money for my request for extra toppings on my salads and sandwiches but even with the extra charges, the amount to toppings are minimal. The service is not always friendly. One time in particular I went in to get desserts for my sick friend about a half hour before the store closed and I was told " WE ARE CLOSING SOON!" Not how I wanted to be greeted. Gelato is expensive, but worth the high price because of the high quality. I just wish oriens could be the way they were when they first opened. read more

Met friends on a Friday night for dinner and gelato. Pasta meals were fine but the true highlight was the gelato. Fresh. Creamy. Delicious. Many interesting flavors. Reasonably priced. I've been here twice while visiting family. Great place!! Macaroons were amazing and the gelato is far superior to the ones I've tried in the past. The establishment definitely needs a structure to have people get in line, had two people come on the other side of us and get orders placed first. Cutest little cafe around here! I have only gone there to order to go. But it's adorable inside. I always order the same thing, the chicken salad sandwich and although it's almost $10, it is way worth it and you can totally make it into two meals, it's huge. Do not go here! After ordering food, we waited 1 hour and 10 minutes to find out they lost our ticket. They didn't apologize or offer us anything for screwing up. We decided to stay because we were starving. When we finally got our food, my sandwich was really bad. Half was cold and half was warm. The chicken tasted like rubber and bread was stale. My husband and I had an engagement to attend at 7pm in Greece near Oriens Cafe on Long Pond. We decided to have a quick sandwich or salad before our engagement. We frequent Oriens and have introduced countless friends and family to Oriens over the years. We love their food even though the service is not always the best. We arrived at Oriens at 6:00, thinking that we could order our dinner, eat and be on time for the 7pm event which was 1 block away. Well, we were in line for over 10 minutes just to have our order taken and there were only 2 people ahead of us! Our food did not arrive till 6:50 and mine was the wrong order! The girl who took our order was actually arguing with me and my husband insisting that he made the mistake with the order! We could not believe that she was questioning what we ordered! I returned my meal & told her I wanted my money back for my order and she said she could not do it! What?! Another gentleman was complaining because he and 2 others were late for a concert in the city and they had waited for a very long time for their food as well. He raised his voice and got all his money back and after a while, someone from the kitchen came out and reimbursed me for my dinner. But my husband had no time to eat and he gobbled down 1/2 his sandwich while I was up at the counter stating my concern. Also when food was brought out from the kitchen the man delivering the food had no idea which table ordered what so he was bringing the food from table to table, putting it under people's noses asking if this was their order! Talk about POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE & since when is the customer not always right? All of this could have been avoided if the girl at the desk had said when before we ordered, "We are short on help in the kitchen. Your order may take longer than usual". Then we would have said thank you for letting us know & we would have gone elsewhere to grab something quickly to eat. It was a nightmare that night and an embarrassment! No customer should ever be treated the way we were treated. I think the girl at the counter knew she placed the wrong order and was afraid she would be reprimanded for it. As I said we frequent Oriens and I have brought clients there as well but I'm not sure we will ever go there again. read more

I just had the veggie medley flatbread pizza for lunch and wow this flatbread is amazing!! Probably the best pizza I've ever tasted!!

Most people think of this as a coffee, italian pastry, and gelato shop. In fact you can have a nice italian lunch and dinner here as well. Great home made chile and soup, italian style sandwiches, great salads, pasta and rice dinner selections. Now serving wine and beer. Finish up with a real espresso and genuine italian gelato or one of the many italian designed pastry selections. read more

This special small place has never missed. I regularly take out of town guests there. Their daily made Soups are always rich and delicious. Great desserts. But whenever I get a coffee there it seems like it had been sitting in the pot a while and is only Luke warm. The people are friendly. But the service is slooooooooow. Not at the fault of the employees in front though. They seem to try and speed things up. I just don't think there is a good system. Very disappointed with our experience. Big supporter of small businesses but tonight not so much. The four dinners we ordered were sub par. The chicken French was chewy, the salad was limp, the spicy seafood was far from spicy & pasta alfredo was bland. No Parmesan cheese or cracked pepper. Fruit flies hovering over dinner! I had lasagna....NO RICOTTA! What gives? My friend tried their ziti lasagna. The ricotta was mixed with the sauce! No chunks. Sauce creamy because of the ricotta. Tasteless. No grated cheese. Had to ask for butter for the bread. Everything was absolutely horrible. Next tried several of the pastries. All tasted like they had been in the freezer for months. You know that freezer taste? Oriens is a wonderful café, whether you're getting a cup of coffee, a delectable pastry, or their famous gelato. Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere, fantastic staff. The only problem I have when I visit, is that I can never seem to find a pricing list, and all of the pastries don't have names. Maybe I'm just not seeing them, but I've been there many times, and can never seem to find any. I find it a bit awkward to have to explain "I want the square chocolate looking thing with the icing" to whomever is taking my order, as it would be easier to just give them a name. As for pricing lists, I've often ordered while not knowing what the final price was going to be. However, It is always reasonably priced. Not a big deal, it is just inconvenient and a little awkward. But definitely not a reason to not visit! Oriens has had my business for a long time and will continue to over the years to come. read more
