Original has become the only pizza restaurant that I patronize because it is the best. There are different styles of pizza, all of them top quality. Other products, like the chicken and broccoli rolls and garlic knots, must be included in your order. If you have to travel to get to Original, it will be worth the trip. read more

Near the area where I work there are not many choices for lunch unless you want to eat fast food everyday. Through Yelp I found this pizzeria and I am so happy I did! This is hands down the best pizza this side of Brooklyn. Once I became hooked I dragged my coworkers there and now we all order from Original Pizza at least once a week! As a native "Canarsian" I have grown up around Originals and this restaurant has seen a good amount of my business over the years. As much as I would love to say this is my favorite neighborhood pizzeria, this place is more than a couple pepperonis short of a slice so to say. This place has gotten incredibly cheap over the years just like the owner Vinny. The guy will literally ask you if you want a drink at least three times while you're ordering just to make an extra buck after you just said all you want is a slice. Prices have skyrocketed, portions have shrunken. The staff is rude and look totally burned out, I EVEN HAD A DELIVERY GUY FROM HERE HARASS ME AT MY DOORSTEP BECAUSE HE WANTED MORE TIP THAN I GAVE HIM!! The ultimate cheapness and last straw was when they took away all the seasonings at the counter and blamed it on COVID precaution laws, meanwhile NO OTHER PIZZERIA IS DOING THIS! I said ok fine, can you please put on the seasonings for me back in the kitchen and was denied. Certainly the best pizzeria in Canarsie. As some had mentioned, it is a bit more pricey than the others, but it is well worth it. Mmm mmm mmm! I love me some Original Pizza. Plain is all you need...the sauce is delicious, the cheese is abundant. The delivery is swift.

Presently living in south Florida, I have not been back to Original Pizza since early 2001. However, having devoured approximately 20,000 of their slices in my lifetime, the bulk between 1978-2000, & having friends who have been there as recently as this past Saturday, I must rate them 5 stars for a great local pizzeria! Are they my all time favorite ever? No, that distinction, for me, goes to Di Fara Pizza in Midwood but when in NYC & I don't feel like waiting 2 hours & paying $32 for a square pie at Di Fara, Original is a definite option! Would I make the hike from other parts of NYC just for Original of Ave L? Yes, now & then I would but there are now 5 Original Pizzerias & the Court Street location in downtown Brooklyn would be more convenient for me. In addition, I do prefer sitting outside L&B Spumoni Gardens munching away on their great squares as well as their homemade spumoni ices but, yes, I think Original of L is great for the Canarsie locals! Is Original Pizza my all time favorite in Canarsie? Let's just say they were easily my #1 my final years there 1978-2000 but in the early 1970's my family's favorite was Joe's Pizza of Avenue L. Note, the Fontana family has majority owned Original Pizza of Ave L since 1969 & Benny Fontana wholly owns the Ave L store. Benny owns 3 Original Pizza stores today & his brother Frank ownw 2 and both have been with Original Pizza since 1970. Benny's son Vinny runs the Ave L store while Benny can be found operating My Little Pizzeria on Court Street. The Chicken Caesar Salad pizza is Everything!! First off it's HUGE not to mention very fresh and filling. They aren't cheap at all w the chicken. We order from here often and I must admit the pizza is really the best in Canarsie. They are a bit more pricier than other pizza places and the pizza is a bit more greasy than others (this is why I gave 4 stars and not 5), just dab the pizza with a napkin and you'll be fine. I don't know if you can find better pizza in Canarsie, Original has been here for as long as I can remember and it has always been good. There are other places like Franks that could have given Original a run for their money if only they hadn't changed ownership. I so happy that I can get good pizza without having to hop on a train...though I do like having options. Original is and will always be dear to both my heart and stomach. I've been coming here since I was a kid (before the expansion) and my dad has been coming here since he was a kid! This is as good as it gets! I have so many great memories of this place. None of us live in Canarsie anymore but we always make a trip here when we are in Brooklyn. The pizza is delicious and the recipe has stayed the same as the years have gone by. I hope Original's Pizza stays the way it is for years to come. Our favorite things to order are of course a pie, the calzones and the garlic knots. With a fruit punch on the side. I eat the "Grandma" slice all the time. The sauce is great and the crust is crispy (sometimes too much). I also like the new dessert slice with marshmallows, chocolate, and fresh straberries. The downside is that they don't take Credit/Debit cards. read more
