I wanted to give Orsay a 5...but I just can't. I made reservations on Open table a week prior to our 15 anniversary. A couple of days before our reservation the restaurant called to confirm and mentioned the anniversary note. What surprised me was when we arrived at our scheduled time, they did not have a reservation for us. I mentioned to the ladies at the front that we indeed had one and that they called to confirm just that week. After a few minutes they took us to the back room for seating. On the walk there she asked if we were celebrating anything and I mentioned our 15 year anniversary. Okay that out of the way. The place we were seated was a bench on one side and chair on the other with two tables flanking us. This is my least favorite type of seating as it takes away from a romantic or private meal. Just behind us was a lovely family with a small baby. I hope this doesn't come across as snotty as that is not my intent. Nothing against kids, I have several, but there are two choices either the restaurant sits the family with small child in the more casual front area of the restaurant or the family doesn't chose a romantic restaurant for their family outing (just my opinion). For the first 20 minutes the sweet baby spent her time tossing her bottle top across the table and into the floor and the parents alternated rushing to grab it and return it. Super fun sight...just not one that screams romantic night out for the rest of the diners. (No fault of the restaurant...just took away from our overall experience). We received 2 glasses of complimentary champagne for our celebration. Then my husband requested the server recommend a bottle...which we absolutely loved. So great job there!! We ordered the escargot to start. I would return over and over for this dish! The mushrooms in delicious sauce made this my favorite thing of the night. I ordered the Filet and my husband ordered the Pan roasted fish. My steak was perfectly cooked and the red wine jus was out of this world. I used it to help add flavor to the steak which could not have stood alone without it. The rest of the items on the plate (brussels sprouts and truffle mashed potatoes) were just ok. My husband's fish was delicious. There was too much cress greens on the plate and the grits were very bland. The fish though would have done well all on its own. We decided to head to another restaurant for dessert. Service throughout the night was just okay. The recommendation for champagne was great. The inconsistent service though was not. I wasn't offered a black napkin but received one upon request (my dress was black)...something I would expect from most higher end restaurants. My husband had to refill my all but one time. After my last experience at Restaurant Orsay, the managing partner contacted me. He apologized and offered for my Fiance and I to come back to give them another shot. I was slightly reluctant, but I am so glad that I went back. Here are the highlights from our visit. - The server, Robert, was FABULOUS! I have NEVER had better service. He was personable and helpful. He guided us to making delicious options. THIS is the person that should be teaching customer service to the initial manager we spoke to. - The food was excellent. Truthfully, I did not try the seafood (maybe still a little nervous from my previous visit). We ordered escargot and pate to start. The pate wasn't quite what we were used to, but it was delicious never-the-less. We both ordered filet mignon for our entrees, which were cooked to perfection. The flavors were great and we even had to add some of their delicious truffle fries. For our dessert, we HAD to get the creme brulee. Last time it was my favorite part of the meal, and this time it did not disappoint. - The atmosphere was active, but not too loud. I really mean it when I tell you that Robert really made our visit! The only thing that I would have them work on is the reservation process. We tried to book on OpenTable, however there were no desirable times. We decided to call and we were informed that they didn't have any times available in the window we wanted (it was a Saturday, and we did understand). We then asked about walking in to wait (which we were okay with) and they informed us that it is not ideal for us to do that. I found this very strange. We ended up walking in anyways, and we were seated almost immediately. I guess there are no real complaints, but this was just a little strange to hear that walk-in's weren't exactly welcome. All-in-all, I absolutely recommend taking a visit to Restaurant Orsay, and absolutely ask for Robert to be your server. You will not be disappointed! read more

It was an awesome experience. So the decor is pretty simple but that does not deter from the food and ambiance. The cocktail hour is great fro 6pm-7pm. We had a lovely evening at Orsay - our first visit and certainly the first of many more. We arrived on time and were shown immediately to our reserved table. Briana was a fantastic aide-de-table (server is just not nice enough for great care she provided). Our meal was neither rushed nor late. Our seating provided an opportunity for me to revel in the superbly organized preparation and delivery ('expo' ?) teamwork. They were very busy and the kitchen extremely well-run. Final prep seemed coordinated by two people on either side of the window. Perhaps working in FES raised my sensitivity to their organization -- no matter -- they are impressive. This place is great at making appetizing pictures, a bunch of FAKE reviews to burry the real ones. But tasty quality food is not their cup of tea. Restaurant Orsay is definitely an experience. It took my tastebuds on a journey as well as my wallet (as forewarned by the triple dollar signs in the description, of course). I wouldn't take back a thing about my meal here, because the food was absolutely impeccable and you obviously get the quality you pay for. Orsay has multiple culinary accolades and I have to admit, it truly is one of the best restaurants in Jacksonville. Our server, Robert, was phenomenal. His recommendations were on point and he was super attentive, making sure our experience was top notch. He was friendly and professional without being stuffy. The ambiance here is really chill, with dim lighting (but not so dim you can't see your fork) and a neutral color scheme. For food, I ordered the roasted oysters as my appetizer, of which I forgot to take a picture (the cardinal sin of Yelp, I know). They were topped with bacon, spinach, and Parmesan cheese. Bacon makes everything better, obviously. The taste was great and the oysters were fresh. For my drink, I ordered the Mercury in Retrograde, which was delicious and unique (this drink is no longer on their menu, boooo). Super cool name for a super cool drink. For my entree, I went with the Lobster Pot Pie, which was literally one of the best dishes I've ever had. It's an entire lobster served in a lobster reduction, surrounded by a bunch of delicious veggies and a homemade biscuit. The lobster was sweet, tender, perfectly cooked and the biscuit paired with it wonderfully. Be warned though, it's not your traditional pot pie by any means. Then again, I don't think Orsay is the place to go if you're looking for traditional. It seems like they take dishes we know and love and turn them on their heads, making them into something totally different, but still recognizable. I opted not to go for dessert, but I did manage to steal a bit of my friend's complimentary birthday vanilla bean creme brûlée. I liked it a lot; it was really creamy and sweet, but not overpoweringly so. I know I'll be back to Orsay, whether it's as a treat to myself or with someone else treating. I'd recommend this place to pretty much anyone, but especially couples and people looking for a restaurant with quality food to make their special occasion even more special. We have just returned from having brunch here for my birthday, & it absolutely hit the mark. The shrimp & grits were outstanding, but the pork chop was the best dish on the brunch menu. On our next & fourth visit, I will be ordering it. Patrick was our server, & he provided top notch attention to detail from start to finish. Along with anticipating our needs, he ensured our plates were cleared between courses, & our glasses never got too low. We are from out of town and went here with some friends who love in JAX. No complaints about the service and it was actually pretty good service. The food was good. We generally enjoy French food and restaurants and enjoyed this one too. We Haaretz a good time. The food was good or OK. The best thing we had were the, beef tartare, filet and the truffle fries. These were good. The atmosphere was nice. It's a busy restaurant but not too loud where you can't hear your table mates. I gave it three stars because of the food. Okay, where do I begin? We'll I have been in the restaurant 3 times already and I thought I owed them a review. It's a gem in Jacksonville for foodies and people like me that also enjoy great food. Here are the following dishes that we tried and enjoyed. 1.Charcuterie plateau,(Pate, Troi Foie Mousse and Rillettes and with all the trimmings. It's shareable for 2-4 people. Delicious! We ordered it every single time. 2.Deviled eggs, they offer 4 different variation and prices, just to be clear, the most expensive one is with American Sturgeon Caviar, sinfully rich. 3.Carolina trout was perfectly cooked. 4.Berkshire pork chop was very good. 5.Steak frites was perfectly seasoned, not too salty. 6.Prince Edward Island mussels with frites, it was just as good as well. 7.Croque Madame sandwich was gooey good. and my FAVORITE, 8.The escargot( snails) with mushroom with just the right amount of garlic, I can eat these little suckers for days, excuse my French. Desserts were great too. The pastry Chef came to the table and explained the ingredients. There as so many dishes to be had for our next visit and I can't wait. I had the best gnocchi and I am a vegetarian. Once again, if I get a dish that done better than I remember it-it is a five-star rating. We went out with a friend, three kids in tow. The place was very accommodating, offering us to choose which table to sit at, booster chairs and child's sears and all. While there were vegetarian options on the large menu, we were immediately offered a separate menu for vegetarians. It was still fairly large in terms of offerings, kids menu as well. I had gnocchi, wife had pappardelle in mushroom sauce. Mine was simply amazing: lightly fried tender bits, accompanied by sauce, eggplant and squash. The texture, the flavor, vegetables cooked to perfection-it all played very well and was a delight. The creamy mushroom pappardelle was wisest I have seen, perfect chew and clearly meant to carry a ton of sauce. Wife said a bit heavy for late evening but I didn't mind, I was just having a bite. Kids had something too, tasty with vegetables, I don't remember. I just want to go back for some more of the same. For dessert we had eclairs, ganache tort and coffee. Reasonably priced, eclairs failed to impress, were simply a nice touch at the end of the meal. The tort had some sort of a rum sauce that made it linger and develop throughout the bite. They forgot my cappuccino and ended up bringing a doppio. Good pairing but nothing special. Stay with the main course and the appetizers, they got it going right. read more

Another overhyped Jax Restaurant. Came for Saturday brunch with a group of four. Started with dozen oysters from east and west coast mixed and they really weren't Briny like you'd expect them to be. A good assortment and size. I love oysters so I had to get them. Service was ok at first, but then the server just kept forgetting about some of the dishes that were ordered. I was meeting up with a friend I hadn't seen in five years, so it was definitely going to be a slow lunch which likely irritated the hell out of the girl but even from the beginning it was rough! I ordered a drink off the cocktail menu, didn't expect it to taste so fruity and sent it back happily with a replacement. Ordered an old fashioned and you'd think they'd have ice blocks being such a high-fancy bar? But they did not. At all. Food. I had the shrimp and grits which was par for the course from over places I've eaten. Luckily, the price of it was about the same that I was used to ~17-18$ so I didn't complain much. It was great but didn't take me to the next level. I did like how they have fresh corn in the grits though and the shrimp was cooked properly. My friend had the steak and eggs - medium - and it was truly nothing spectacular. The others ordered the quiche and an omelette. Maybe when you're at brunch you stick with more traditional egg foods?? The orders calamari among two other appetizer foods which was forgotten about. Orders two coffees at the end of the meal, and only one was delivered. We were celebrating my birthday, so a free dessert was brought out and much appreciated - so no complaints there. Now this was an amazing choice for my birthday dinner! Expensive (yes Lord was it expensive!); but the best choice nonetheless. Without being quite sure what to expect when first arriving at Orsay, I had expectations of this high brow, maybe uptight, cold and impersonal restaurant. I'd seen pictures of people outside the building in front of the Orsay wall but that was it. Of course I also looked at the pictures posted of the food but it didn't really display the restaurant itself. The setup is actually quite cozy and welcoming, being both intimate for two and accommodating for a group of friends, family, or coworkers. I wouldn't necessarily say it's for kids as it has a very adult appeal. There are couch booths and standard tables, wall booths/chair seating, and outdoor seating along with bar seating. It has that dim, low light ambience and there's enough of a buzz from nearby and far away conversations without it being obnoxious. Like everyone knows not to go above a certain volume. And the waiter we had for the evening was attentive and always prepared with a suggestion. Also a little flirtatious but he was respectful, cute, and the table was mostly ladies. And the food! The food was hands down delicious. While I was expecting it to be good, I wasn't expecting that good. I had the Escargot Appetizer, a very good choice I would suggest to anyone else. The butter, herb, and mushroom sauce it comes in is just as good as the snails themselves which were both perfectly cooked to tender, melt in your mouth perfection, and perfectly seasoned with an underlying smoky flavor. For my first drink I got the Mercury in Retrograde which was a fruity drink I believe with vodka mixed in and chocolate shavings on top. The second was the Blood Orange Margarita which was my favorite because I'm a sucker for a blood orange cocktail. No chocolate shavings on top, but it didn't need it. It has the tangy sweetness I love with a good citrus drink. My actual entre was the Filet Mignon, cooked medium rare for me with brussel sprouts and garlic, buttery mashed potatoes. I didn't finish my whole meal that night but let me say the leftovers are just as good as if it was fresh! I always worry about getting steak right, because it is easy to mess up but whoever they have in that kitchen is on top of it. Keep up the good work Orsay. My friend and I got a complimentary dessert to share for our birthday which was also a nice added surprise. Quite literally the worst service I've experienced at an upscale restaurant. Food was fine, cocktails were okay. We were hosted by our friends for their wedding day and a waitress snapped at my husband because he couldn't hear what she was asking to the point our whole table went silent. Our other waiter seemed incredibly annoyed every time we asked him for something. It became a common feeling throughout the tables that the staff was cold and seemed inconvenienced every time we asked for something. Not sure why management hasn't corrected this issue as it seems to be a prevalent trend. Perhaps if you are going to charge $45 for a main dish, consider being respectful to your guests. read more

We haven't been able to go to Orsay's Sunday brunch for quite awhile. Nothing has changed it's still fantastic. We had the Pate and sweets before our meals then the Onion soup ,which is always incredible, then the pouched eggs and an omelet. The whole brunch was outstanding. A very good place for dinner. DISCLAIMER: I rarely give five stars unless everything from start to finish is spectacular. This place fell just short. The parking is very difficult to find and even on a Thursday you will not find a valet. At this price point I think it is normal and customary for a valet to be present whether it is complimentary or a charge. The appetizers are great! The roasted oysters do not fail. However their pizazz compared to Matthews escargot is lacking. Quite frankly I do not understand the one fine julienne thread of lemon on them that you cannot taste. However!, the scallop tartare is out of bounds! Go there just for happy hour and buy this dish. The jalapeño has no ribs or seeds and is so finely minced that you only receive the brightness that it brings. Go for it!!! Dinner was cocoa crusted venison and seared duck breast. The venison was good but nothing to rave over. They recommended rare but my piece was barely past blue. The saffron cabbage was odd and unique but still good. Overall this part did not work and made the dish less. The cauliflower purée was too runny. Overall 3/5 on a good day based on the stellar service. The seared duck is great and a standard on the menu. Always cooked properly and I really like the sides and garnishments. The service is phenomenal minus the parking. But I would recommend you check this place out. While I do not drink the happy hour food is great! read more

I have heard time and time again from everyone I know that I had to come to Orsay..that when I did it would change my life and I would want to keep coming back..well the maiden voyage finally arrived, and I have to say that everyone was so so right..I met up with a friend that has been numerous times, and has loved everything that she has ordered, we had a reservation, since it was Black Friday, we werent sure if it might be busy..the hostess took us back to our table, and everything was just what I imagined..classy, great lighting, and a general feel of..Im about to really enjoy myself..Our server came over to talk to us about the specials and give us the cocktail hour choices..She was really informative, had a good knowledge of all the offerings, and super friendly...the first thing i decided on was my beverage, the Eastside story..they had me at habanero honey..i had two! We next ordered a cheese plate, choosing a cheese from Holland, and one from Charleston, one was soft and creamy, while the other was a firmer cheese-both were excellent..our appetizers were up next..i had the seared scallops, with a cauliflower puree that was so velvety and the scallops were cooked to perfection, this was a really pleasing appetizer..I do think in my next visit I will try the escargot..i have had them other places and loved them, and I saw an order of them go by me while i was eating..the entrees came out and i was blown away by the gorgeous presentation of my pan roasted fish..it was paired with Anson Mills grits, and the crispy skin with the smooth grits was amazing..my friend had the duck breast and let me try a bite of that, and it was also really good! although i was feeling full, i have been told that you HAVE to do dessert for the full experience, so i went for it, having two petit fours selections, the peanut butter and nutella tart and a petite creme brulee..both were outstanding..this really could not have been a better meal from start to finish..the obvious attention to all the details, the quality of the food, and the excellent staff..i can see why everyone raves so much..and i know that i have joined the ranks of Orsay converts.. read more

1st time guest review. Great food, waiter was appropriately attentive, staff overall very good. My meatloaf mix was wonderful combinations of different meats spices topped off with delightful sauce. Side green bean casserole good, but not note worthy. Wife like her trout, but said spices a bit heavy for her. Daughter # 1 duck dinner was devoured, #2 finished off her shrimp and crab. Parking is a bit of a challenge, easy if you don't mind a 3 minute walk. Expect to pay about $40- $60 a person, not inexpensive, but a great all around restaurant. We will visit again. read more

Went Sunday for brunch, and my taste buds traveled to France without leaving Jacksonville. The service was formidable! Chris, our waiter was extremely attentive and cordial. We started with a glass of prosecco and the Ten Dollars Devil Egg (also paired with a tiny glass of Brut Champagne) wow! Delicious! Then I ordered their version of Eggs Benedict "Eggs A La Orsey", the combination of flavors was what I would call, orgasmic! What a way to start my day! My husband ordered the Wild Local Shrimp & Anson Mill Grits, this was another tasteful dish. The flavors were exploding in our mouths. Orsay is a fantastic restaurant between Riverside & Avondale, closer to Avondale. Gourmet food and drinks, with a great wine selection. Their steak tartare is unbelievably good, the best I've ever had. Crazy thing is, a hearty portion of it is available during their Happy Hour for $7. Many salads and a few soups, appetizers heavy to seafood, and many of their dishes feature liver or pate. Excellent cassoulet, steak frites, some of the best specialty burgers anywhere, duck breast, calamari, lobster pot pie, bouillabaisse, sea scallop tartare, oysters, mussels, trout, veal sweetbreads, shrimp cocktail, charcuterie of many types, rillettes, flatbreads and much more.
