The server was very friendly but the place got very busy fast so we didn't get the best service unfortunately. Pizza was very crispy and lite. Loved the new addition to 17th street. 8.8/10 kept seeing this on my FYP on tiktok and had to come try for their happy hour. their happy hour menu did change from the one i had seen on yelp but we still got everything we wanted to try. we got the crispy provolone which was SO bomb but have to eat right away bc once cheese isn't melting anymore it's not as yum but basically a better mozzarella stick. the fries were crispy and had a good seasoning on it. the pizza was super thin which i love and we got the vodka one which had spicy peppers which i liked alot . the spicy rigatoni was YUM as well. perfect little dinner spot i highly recommend trying at least once! also staff was so sweet and gave us two glasses of champagne for my bday celebration and were accommodating since it had rained when we got there and moved us to a different table. read more

I saw a few people say on yelp that they would accommodate vegan options. But my experience is they are petty bad vegan options to be a meal. We were seated pretty quickly once we got there we had a reservation. We were seated on the patio and it was very very crowded. I asked the server to check with the chef what options were vegan. I was told there was a pizza on the menu that was already vegan because it had no cheese, I could get the eggplant appetizer without one of the sauces, and I could get the garlic bread, which is an appetizer. I ordered the garlic bread and the pizza that is vegan already with no modifications. It is cracker thin almost like paper, there are not very many toppings and you're paying $20 eating thin air and a little onion and jalapeño. I usually love thin crust pizza but usually there are some toppings to it. They completely forgot to bring the bread we asked about it when one of the staff brought the pizza and the pasta that we ordered and was told that someone was checking on it. Then 10 minutes later we had to flag down our server to ask where it was cause it still hadn't come. My friend and I finally got the garlic bread to share, thinking it was going to be some focaccia or really good Italian bread. You can see from my picture. It is just plain bread and it's supposed to be garlic, but both me and my friend didn't taste any garlic at all. My friend really liked her pasta but she ordered one of them cocktails and hated it thought it was too. Atmosphere was very loud on the patio. The chairs make a lot of noise when people get in and out and it was pretty packed. I think because of a lot of graduations happening. The servers were very nice although I don't think there was enough staff to support how busy they were . My friend also found a hair in the napkin as she opened it up to get to her silverware so we had to ask a server for a new one. My friend who isn't Vegan said that she would go back she liked her pasta, but she thinks the price is a little high for what you're getting. Ambiance: the place had a nice ambience however, the noise level was a little bit loud. Not much privacy when most of the booths are connected to each other. There were only a few booths where there were privacy. Food: food was OK. We ordered the beef carpaccio ($22) which was grounded and topped on top of a super toasted thick bread topped with arugula. Not my favorite. We also ordered the Cavatelli which was actually delicious and the pasta tasted fresh, but the servings were small, especially for a $42 dish. We also ordered the Bronzino ($42), which was extremely bland. You can get a better Bronzino that's cooked to perfection at water Grill for the same price. Food here was definitely overrated. Drinks: we ordered espresso martini ($20) that came from tap, which actually didn't taste bad however, every espresso martini should come with three beans on top theirs did not. Thumbs down. Great service, location and chic ambience. It was packed in a way that didn't annoy me it just felt lively. Our server, Jacque (Jackie) was attentive and sweet and the food came out so quickly which was very nice. My group of 4 ordered 2 pizzas and 2 pastas to share with one appetizer and cocktails all around which was perfect for sharing and the cocktails were beautiful and well made -- and so was the little bar in there! The pricing was appropriate and I kind of liked that the dishes were lighter -- thin crusts, fresh light sauces, smaller portions. I think it needs to exist in the Italian restaurant category, it makes going out to Italian more of a no-brainer than something you have to be in the mood (or hungry enough) for. It also wasn't trying too hard to be cool or modern, gentrified stuff you see today that, as an Italian, turns me off completely even if the food is good. We ended up sharing a few things and had the meatballs, kanpachi crudo, spicy rigatoni, cavatelli and ended it off with some affogatos and cannolis. Visited Ospi for a birthday dinner - atmosphere was very casual and nice, greeted with glasses of champagne at the door and smiles from the bartenders and staff. Our service was amazing (Jacob) and helped answer any questions about the menu. The drinks were on point. Wait staff, food runners and bussing was on point. We ordered the margarita, dirty martinis and the lusty martini which were all truly amazing. Unfortunately the food was subpar. For apps we ordered the beef tartare, which was extremely unflavorfull - chopped steak, potato chips (?), and a cheese blend on a giant piece of hard toast. It was lacking flavor. There was also a tremendous amount of grated "Parm" that tasted like it was Kraft, and this unfortunately was on everything. We also ordered the crispy polenta, which unfortunately was also loaded with this "parm" and it was also lacking flavor- so we asked for salt (I've never added salt to food in a restaurant before). The "Parm" was even on the pastas and it was overbearing. For entrees we first ordered the cavatelli- truffle pasta which was severely undercooked it tasted like bread dough. The truffle was not fresh truffle and tasted like dirt. We opted for spicy rigatoni which was also loaded with the "parm" and the sauce was nice and noodles were cooked fine. Honestly the best part of our meal was the $20 salad which had no protein. I chose the arugula which had a nice tart dressing, avocado and some shaved real cheese which was delicious. As a foodie, I was overall disappointed. I know this place is new so want to give it the benefit of the doubt but hope that their dishes improve in the future! read more

My friend loves this place and was hyping it up so much that we ended up going to dinner over the weekend. There was plenty of parking on the street at 5 PM. We made a reservation, but somehow they gave us bar seating. It was a bit uncomfortable to dine but the restaurant was packed and they couldn't seat us at a normal table. We shared the pizza, salad and pasta. I also got a glass of Pinot Grecia, which was very crisp and paired well with the food. My first time experience here is definitely five stars because the food was incredible. The kale salad was the best and this is coming from someone who doesn't like kale. It was two of my gf's bday so we wanted to give this place a try since it's newly opened! Ambiance is a nice space with indoor and outdoor options. They are well staffed so you'll get the proper attention and service, which is great! They offer complimentary valet but if you're like me and you're hesitant about giving someone access to your car, there is street parking. Our group did find it strange that every staff member kept asking us if they can take our menu when we clearly wanted to keep one menu to look at cocktails and other things we want to order. The food is mediocre. If you're craving Italian, there are a lot of better options like Bello by Sandro or even North Italia is a much better choice. We ordered a lot of things off the menu but nothing was impressive and everything was just bland with very small portions for the price. We don't need monstrous portions but one dish is shareable between 2 person and I like to order a lot of things off the menu to give everything a try. So it was disappointing to see the portions compared to the price. The Sole was very salty but the arugula salad was tasty. Skip the truffle pasta, at $42 you'd think we can taste some truffle but there was nothing that made us love it, pasta was hard. Skip all the bread offerings, it's like a hard bread and has no flavor. We hope this place improves the portion or the flavors. The service was the best part. They were very attentive and relatively quick to bring us our food considering it was a Saturday night! Ambiance was nice too, it was very pretty and clean at the inside and outside seating. But I fear the food was a complete miss for us. First, we got the arugula salad (which I didn't take a picture of) but I thought it would be refreshing bc it had lemon in the description. However, it was SUPER sour. It was jarring when we first tasted it, but we were hungry so we managed to eat about 1/4th of the salad before agreeing it was not appetizing anymore. We ordered the garlic bread which was the best thing we had honestly, but for $6 it was not really enough bread in my opinion. It was only one slice that was cut down the middle for us to share. Then we ordered the Tonnarelli and Rigatoni pastas. The Tonnarelli said it came with black pepper, but i didn't expect the immense quantity of it. It just felt overdone and not balanced. Every bite was very strong of pepper even after mixing the pasta. The sauce was okay, very cheesy, but i couldn't tell much of a flavor bc of the pepper. I asked for chicken in it and it was okay. My friend ordered the Spicy vodka rigatoni pasta and hers was just okay as well. My rating is taking into consideration the prices we paid compared to the quality we got. read more

First time here. We can to celebrate Mother's Day. Parking was a bit of a challenge - Valet is an option as well as street parking or a limited, shared lot in the back. There is a nice ambiance with both outside patio or inside table and booth seating. You may also sit at the bar, upon entering. Our service was lovely. The food came fairly quickly and was moderately priced. For starters we shared the meatballs (6/10, nothing unique) and calamari (6/10, I've had better tasting and these were overcooked taking away from the actual flavor). For our meals we enjoyed the Regina salad (10/10, large portion and nice sized chunks of chicken breast with a delightfully tangy dressing and cornbread croutons), Kale salad with sashimi (10/10 with a well seasoned kale and thin strips of sashimi with mild, thin sliced jalapeños), chicken parm sandwich (8/10, a little dry and sloppy but very tasty), and tagliatelle (8/10 a beautiful bolognese that was a small portion size). My new favorite Italian spot in Orange County! The food was incredible with a special shoutout to the eggplant starter. The pizza was thinner than usual but still delicious. We had to wait over 15 minutes for the table but knowing this spot just opened up we weren't upset but they did give us a free round of drinks and aside from that the service was great. Always on the lookout for a good pasta place in Orange County, I was happy to learn about Ospi opening in Costa Mesa. I had a 6:30 PM reservation but arrived early. At most places on a Thursday night (especially before 6 PM) that isn't a huge issue and I can still get seated. But this place was packed to the brim! I did hear about bar seating being first come first serve, but that was also full. I did manage to get a seat at the bar about 30 minutes before my actual reservation thankfully- but other reviewers were definitely correct about it being crowded. I always enjoy it when there is something on the menu I have to look up, as it means I am going to learn something new! There is a whole section on the menu for Fett'unta, which is basically toast. I went for the garlic fett'unta, as it was the cheapest at $7 and I felt it would be good to try this out in its simplest version before getting to the more expensive options in subsequent visits. The bread was crispy and chewy and overall a really good piece of garlic bread. However, the serving was two small pieces of bread. It was a little bit sad looking, especially for the price. I would love to try the ricotta fett'unta but at $17 it would have to at least be double the portion. Another new item on the menu I encountered was the raschiatelli, which is a type of noodle I don't think I have ever had. As someone who loves thicker noodles, these were right up my alley. They were like those very thick noodles you get in some chicken soups- soft and chewy! This dish did advertise itself as spicy, so of course I was a bit intimidated but I wanted to try it anyways. On top of the pasta was pecorino cheese and breadcrumbs, which made it pretty unique. The dish definitely had a bit of a kick, but not too much that it had no flavor other than spicy. It was good but not an absolute winner that would make it worth $30. Speaking of which, I did not finish my pasta but I definitely could have if I tried. For the price, the portion was also lacking. If you are willing to pay a little more than your average fancy Italian place in OC, this is a fair option for you. I do want to come back and try a few more pasta dishes, but I feel like I would really need to be with someone else to make it worth it, as this was a pretty expensive meal for the portions. On the plus side, the service at the bar was great and the place was really pretty! read more

I'll start with giving Ospi their props - the food is good. Not exceptional, but still worth trying. I was pleased with the taste. Unfortunately, the reason why I'm ultimately giving this place the rating I am is because of the service. The staff weren't necessarily rude, but I was quite turned off by several things: 1. The hostesses (there were 3 of them) were quite cold and failed to appropriately greet us or say thank you as we were leaving. They were more concerned with talking and congregating amongst each other. 2. Our waiters were "OK" and nothing really stood out as exceptional, except for one time at the end where the waiter stepped on my foot twice while cleaning up the table, and didn't apologize for doing so. 3. The price - honestly I can't get over the fact that our spicy rigatoni w/ meatballs was $34. Given that Mama D's Italian Kitchen is 1.6 miles down the road that has pastas as cheap as $19, I would much rather go there instead. Portion sizes as Ospi were super tiny - these aren't dishes to share but rather individual portions. Food was great, I have been here once before along with the location in Venice. However, I was a bit taken aback by the conversation being had amongst a server (ginger hair) and another tall, young server. My partner and I were conveniently seated next to the stand where the servers conducted payments, and overheard a conversation that was audibly not being hidden. The servers, more than once, came back to talk to each other and complain about not receiving high enough tips or no tips at all. While I do agree and understand how many people overlook tipping on big holidays, it is one thing to talk about this privately and another thing to continuously rant about it during our whole dinner. One server went so low as to pretty much yell, "broke people shouldn't be going out for dinner" and exclaiming other disturbing messages as if they wanted to be heard by customers. It made me really uncomfortable, given we are a younger couple, younger than the servers themselves, I can only imagine what a more mature couple would think! We found it quite humorous but it made us even question whether we wanted to tip, which we did. I understand the frustration, truly, but please, be like your other server who told you guys to quiet down and maybe not do it in front of people? There were many times we wanted to just call over your GM but didn't want to make you both look like bad guys so we decided to make this review instead Truthfully the food was great but service was.... Came here for a girlfriend's birthday dinner and had such a great evening. The restaurant is cute with warm lighting. We sat on the patio and since they had several heaters, we didn't even need our jackets/coats. Love that there's olive trees and palm trees everywhere. Our server was so attentive and welcoming. We ordered the crispy provolone and calamari to start. The kale salad was recommended by our server and it DID NOT disappoint! We all loved it. We also got the spicy rigatoni, ricotta gnudi, and the raschiatteli. To finish we shared some cannolis which were absolutely amazing and the Nutella mousse. I'm not much of a chocolate person, so I didn't love it but my girl friends did. We all ordered the hot girl summer cocktails, also recommended by our server, and we loved that too. ambience and service was great! i didn't know ospi was known for their ultra thin pizza crust, and while it wasn't bad, the crust got pretty hard once the pizza cooled down. the pesto pasta was pretty one dimensional; it was just pesto and pasta, and kind of mushy. the calamari was the highlight of the meal. it was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. the accompanying sauces made the calamari more interesting. overall, i might come back to try other dishes. read more

This pasta is worth it! The homemade noodles are mouthwatering. Our waitress was so patient since this was our first time. She made some excellent recommendations for food and drinks. We started with the ricotta, which was so good but it's very rich and there's a very large amount on four pieces of bread. If you are a ricotta lover this is right up your alley. We ordered an extra plate of just bread to try to finish all the cheese. For our mains we ordered the tagliatelle and the spicy rigatoni which were both phenomenal. We finished with the brownie and vanilla ice cream, so good. The patio is small but functional and surprisingly was not cold on a chilly evening. The tables are a bit close to one another but nothing too bothersome. We will be back to hopefully enjoy the ambiance indoors. read more

Visited Ospi this afternoon for a very pleasant late lunch, early dinner with a friend and my 6 month old baby. The food was delicious, not a single item we didn't enjoy! We tried the crispy provolone, stracciatella, kale salad, spicy rigatoni, and cavatelli truffle pasta. Ospi's vodka sauce is to die for! Also, their margarita is refreshing and light. I was particularly impressed with the service - they were very accommodating considering I had my 6 month old daughter / stroller with us. Here's a restaurant that tries too hard. The physical layout is lovely and the service is exemplary but the food is meh. The arugula salad was good and the pizza crust was like a cracker and the Cacio e Pepe pasta was served lukewarm and overly salted and should have been hot. The rigatoni with vodka sauce was good but simple, my daughter makes it just as good. When I'm fine dining I'm looking for dishes that tantalize my palate not just fills my belly and sadly Ospi just did not measure up.
