I booked a Father's Day reservation over a month in advance and specifically asked for inside seating, in case it was cool out. Upon arrival, we were promptly sat inside, along the wall to the outside, by the restrooms. It was FREEZING. The AC vents are directly above, apparently. We immediately asked the hostess that sat us (literally as we were being handed the menus) for a different table, but were told that wasn't possible. She said all of the tables along that wall "get the draft," so I'm sure we weren't the first to complain. She said she was going to speak to the manager about turning down the fan, and that she'd be right back. She never returned. We were all super cold and uncomfortable and felt we had to rush through the almost $200 meal. The food was good as was the waitress/service but this was not the dining experience we hoped for when we booked dinner to celebrate a special occasion. It was unfortunate that the hostess never came back as promised and the air continued to blow (our hair was visibly moving throughout the meal as if there were a fan directly on us). I understand parts of the restaurant may naturally run differently, temperature wise, but you can't freeze out 3-4 tables of customers! It was just a bummer because we couldn't wait to leave because it was so damn cold. Eggplant: 7.5/10 nicely cooked with well balanced textures and flavours. It was good but nothing particularly stood out for me. Only complaint is that it was a bit too oily which I think may have been from the breadcrumbs they put on top. Beef tartare: 6/10 beautiful presentation but flavours did not match the aesthetics. Beef itself was surprisingly plain, underseasoned and lacking salt or any other elements that typically elevate a tartare. Bread it came on was good, but ultimately overshadowed the already light flavour of the beef. Ricotta gnudi: 7/10 gnudi itself had great texture but the sauce was underwhelming. Menu described it as a brown butter sage sauce but I didnt pick up on any of those flavours. Spicy vodka rigatoni: 7/10 this was the dish I was most excited for as several friends had told me it rivals Carbones. Rigatoni was also dente but almost too chewy-im not sure if this was intentional or if it was just undercooked but ive never experienced fresh pasta with that texture before. Sauce and flavour was lacking here as well. Branzino: 8/10 best dish of the night. Cooked to perfection and plated beautifully, almost looked like a work of art. First time here and absolutely loved it! Such a cute place and nice ambiance. I had reservations at 4:15pm but arrived about 30 minutes earlier and they were able to accommodate us. I have seen the crispy provolone all over the internet so we definitely had to get this and it was amazing! Had the cheese pill and the sauce was a perfect mix to add to it. The pasta with the vodka sauce was fresh and cooked perfectly. They were not stingy with the sauce and I loved it! The pizza was great as well and different than your normal pepperoni pizza. Ospi has been all over my social media but was a little hesitant to try this place due to all the mixed reviews. Ospi is a well known Italian restaurant from Venice that's finally made its way down to OC. You can choose to dine out in the beautifully lit patio or darker yet still modern inside dining room. I highly recommend making a reservation online as to avoid a wait (you can also specify if you want to sit on the patio or dining room). The food is a little on the pricier side for the portions but I've just come to accept that about Italian food. The kale salad was one of the best things I've ever eaten; it was chopped fine and not tough at all. The dressing was so citrusy, bright and sweet which was perfectly balanced with the crunchy almonds and bites of creamy avocado. The meatballs were tender and smothered in tomato sauce which paired perfectly with the crusty toasted bread. I was told by the sever all of thier toasts are made from bread made fresh from the bakery (Rye Goods) next door. The kanpachi crudo was average. Not good nor bad but very forgettable. On to the mains! All of the pizzas have an option to make it "saka-style" which means the pizza comes with a side of stracciatella to dip in. We opted for the vodka pizza which was delicious although very light on the sauce with dollops of stracciatella on each slice. Do note the pizzas here are Roman style and thus are VERY thin and cracker like. Don't expect thick, saucy and doughy pizza or else you will be disappointed. I also tried the mandilli and tagliatelle: both pastas were not al dente at all :( it was more on the overcooked mushy side and the flavor of both were very mild and light. The wide flat and thin shape of the mandilli combined with how overcooked the pasta was resulted in a giant clump of pasta which wasn't the most enjoyable. Came for my birthday this past Saturday and had the most amazing experience. Service was top tier, hostesses were very kind, and our server was great. She had amazing energy, shared some laughs, and gave good recommendations and alternative options (my gf is allergic to dairy). The food itself was absolutely delicious. I got the vodka pizza, demolished the whole thing (oops ), my gf got the salmon which looked phenomenal. And we finished with the tableside tiramisu (so cool), the whipped cream was light and airy and paired so well with the espresso (I got this because i saw it online, fair to say it lived up to the hype). Espresso martini was solid, subtly sweet, good flavor. The restaurant itself feels very lively, and the decor feels very upscale with some character to it. I saw some decor pizza boxes that said something funny (I forget exactly what it said) but it make me chuckle. Considering we also had reservations, that response felt a bit frustrating. Eventually, we were told there had just been a cancellation, and we were moved to a much better table. On a positive note, our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the meal. The drinks were excellent and were probably the highlight of the evening. I definitely recommend trying them. One thing that surprised me was how quickly the food arrived less than five minutes after ordering. While some may appreciate the speed, it made me wonder whether the dishes were pre-made rather than prepared to order. The overall experience felt more like fast-casual dining dressed up as fine dining. The restaurant seemed focused on turning tables quickly rather than creating a relaxed dining experience. We never felt encouraged to sit back, enjoy the evening, and celebrate the occasion. As for the food, it was mediocre and didn't stand out. Given the prices, I expected a much better dining experience. Overall, I left feeling disappointed. Flavor wise was on point but the texture was stodgy and seized up almost as soon as we got it which was disappointing. It was too clumped up to even separate to portions so it made it difficult to share. Spicy rigatoni was good. Spicy and good sauced flavor. Kale salad also really good. The restaurant inside and out is gorgeous and lovely vibes, always vibrant anywhere you sit, even the bar. Food is always solid. This time tried different things that I normally don't order. Cucumber salad was maybe a little too savory for what I was expecting but overall very fresh and crisp. Cauliflower was amazing, probably one of the best I've ever had. The sauce and the dates were just really well put together in this dish. Definitely recommend. For pizza I usually like the Campione the best. Off their Happy Hour menu, I thoroughly enjoyed the textures and flavors (with a nice kick of serrano spiciness) of their Kale Salad (the smaller portion -- and reduced price of $13 vs. $27 if ordered off the Brunch menu -- is perfect!). In addition, their Neopolitan Meatballs ($12) was a nice & tasty portion for a starter. The Brunch menu lists Tagliatelle for $22; ordered after 3 PM, the Dinner menu is in effect, at which time the Tagliatelle is $26 (our thoughts, surprisingly small for a full dinner size portion; not aware of its cost until ready to leave, we initially thought the portion served was the Brunch portion). Had a reservation for 5 at noon on a Saturday and was able to be seated right away. The hosts and some waitresses weren't too friendly but our main waitress (Aglette?) was very kind! We got a few appetizers-- the fries were standard and the tator tots were perfectly crisp and well seasoned. The crispy provolone was good and tasty but nothing wow! The vodka sauce that came with it was the best part and elevated it. But the biscuit with ricotta and jam was my favorite! The biscuit was shareable size and it was so buttery and flaky! The ricotta had a nice texture. The jam was little sweet. For my main, I got the pesto mandilli. The pesto was a little too salty for my liking. It does say silky in the description so don't expect a sauce with much texture. I also felt it could be enjoyed more on a different pasta shape but the pasta was a little too thin and overcooked. Vodka Pizza 9.58/10- made with vodka sauce, pickled fresno, basil, and stracciatella. This was absolutely delicious! I loved how it was an ultra thin crust pizza - the crust was perfectly crispy and let all the toppings shine. The stracciatella was so creamy and fresh, and the basil added that perfect aromatic finish. Such a great combination of flavors! Kale Salad 10/10- made with alla jame, almond dressing, avocado, and grana padano. This is honestly one of the best kale salads I've ever had! The kale was perfectly massaged so it wasn't tough or bitter at all. The almond dressing was creamy and nutty with amazing flavor, and the avocado added perfect richness. The grana padano gave it this nice salty, nutty element that tied everything together beautifully. Every bite was so fresh and flavorful. Rhode Island Calamari 7.43/10- this was good but not amazing. The calamari was cooked well and wasn't chewy, but it didn't really stand out compared to the other dishes. It was perfectly fine but nothing special that made it memorable. Neapolitan Meatballs 9.28/10- made with beef, pork, ricotta, pine nuts, tomato passata, and grana padano. These were incredible! I loved the sauce - it was rich and flavorful with perfect acidity. The bread served with it was also perfect for soaking up all that delicious sauce. I loved how the meatballs had pine nuts inside of them - it added this amazing texture and nutty flavor that made them so unique. The beef and pork combination was tender and well-seasoned. Crispy Provolone 7.26/10- this is apparently a really popular menu dish and it was good but nothing crazy. The provolone was crispy on the outside and melty inside, but it felt pretty standard. I will say the vodka sauce served with it definitely brought out the best flavor and made it much more interesting. Spicy Rigatoni 9.32/10- this came with vodka sauce and was actually a bit spicy which I loved! The rigatoni was cooked perfectly al dente and the vodka sauce was creamy and rich. The spice level was just right - enough to give it a kick without being overwhelming. The pasta held the sauce really well. Table Side Tiramisu 8.56/10- this was very fresh and the presentation was cool, but I felt that there was too much cream for my liking. I prefer more traditional tiramisu with better balance of coffee and mascarpone. It was still good but not quite what I was hoping for. Cannoli 9.28/10- these were incredibly fresh! The shells were crispy and the filling was so creamy and sweet. I loved how they had both pistachios and chocolate chips - it gave every bite different textures and flavors. I've had Ospi once at the Venice location and have not stopped thinking about the crispy provolone. Was able to secure a reservation at this location and was obsessed all over again. We actually made it before 5:30 so got to order off their happy hour menu for the Caesar salad (not pictured) and the crispy provolone. They were both great deals. The portions were a bit smaller than a usual italian restaurant but the prices were comparatively a little less for a dish. Except for the crispy provolone being 12 dollars- it was good but not that good. The cacio e pepe and the vodka sauce pizza was just nothing special at all. The tiramisu was good but heavy hand on the coffee liquor- we couldn't finish it I went for a lunch and was served fast but also incredibly rushed- we were the only ones inside. The waitress had dropped off the check within 40 minutes of us being seated before asking for dessert or us getting togo boxes or anything. Started off with hair in our water and had to get a new one.. Was having a serious conversation with my friend and kept getting interrupted by the unfortunately pushy service..Not good vibes from any other servers either- except for the hostess which was refreshing. Parking can be tough on Saturday night but you can try to find street parking. The tonnarelli and spicy rigatoni were amazing and the cauliflower anti-pasta is a must try. The calamari was fine but nothing to rave about. The margherita pizza was good but not as good as the funghi pizza. There is a large bar you can sit at that wraps around the side of the restaurant. The service was excellent and I found our waitress very attentive. Drinks are good, but not great. The spicy margaritas were not particularly spicy. But generally the alcohol servings and the quality was good. Food is the star of the show. The pastas are phenomenal, the pizza is thinner crust but delicious, and the pressed mozzarella appetizer is my personal favorite. Overall, Ospi is relatively approachable price wise, though a bit expensive. However, the food quality is great and I highly recommend it. Overall, the food was really good and came out really quickly (which made up for some of the notes mentioned later)!! Highly recommend their pizzas (we tried Salsicchia) and Kale salad with crudo. My party definitely appreciated her being upfront and honest. I understand the manager could've been pulled away but it appeared to guests like he was evading bad news. - Only 1 stall/restroom for men. There was definitely a line waiting at all times. - The women's restroom wasn't necessarily up-kept either. The paper towels were overfilling; I tried to press it down a bit but it was PACKED. First time ever at this restaurant for a friend's birthday dinner. The menu was a prix fixe style arrangement where the items were selected for us ahead of time. The meal was arranged and served in order: drinks, antipasti, pizzas, mains, pasta courses, and concluding with desserts and coffee. Our server Jackie was AMAZING! Very friendly and engaging. Also, very attentive to whatever we needed. She was great! Just observing the other tables, this establishment hires really good people all around. The restaurant was busy and full on a Saturday evening. We had a 7:15pm reservation for a party of 8. Didn't wait too long before being seated. The restaurant manages to have a lot of seating options including indoors, outdoor patios, and even some counter seats as well as the bar area. Plenty of options for parties of all sizes. The food was really solid. The courses we picked were very good and covered the basics of what you'd expect from an Italian inspired restaurant. Pastas were cooked and sauced perfectly. The pizzas were nicely thin yet had a good chewy crust that accentuated the flavors which were simple pizzas we ordered. The antipasti courses were probably my favorites especially the eggplant and meatballs. The chicken parm main dish was excellent. Good juiciness yet still crisp breading holding up the sauce with was vibrant and tasty. Overall, we had a great dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. Reserved a standard table but was seated at the bar. The main dishes took awhile to come out so we finished both of our drinks and calamari before starting the actual meal. The calamari was fresh and the hot girl summer cocktail was smooth and yummy. The spicy rigatoni never misses. The pasta was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. Amazing aesthetics and ambiance! Service was great and attentive though I wish they had left a jug of water on the table as opposed to having to wait to refill our small glasses. What we tasted was good, but I wish there were more options. The kick on the spicy vodka sauce left your palate sizzling ever so slightly and asking for more! For my liking, my cacio e pepe was on the dry side. Portions are good, but as others are saying.. it is on the pricier side. My favorite was the table side tiramisu. OMG! Great food and surprisingly, one of my favorite dishes was their kale salad! It was a unique take on kale salad. We also ordered the spicy rigatoni, hapa pizza and the tiramisu for dessert. The spicy rigatoni was perfectly cooked. The hapa pizza had pineapple, pepperoni and jalapeño so it had a nice balance of spicy and sweet. The tiramisu was made in front of our eyes and it was also delicious. The restaurant was nicely decorated and the seats in the mini booth were comfortable. The food was so yummy! My boyfriend and I split two pastas, the raschiatelli and ricotta gnudi. Both amazing!!! The meat in the raschiatelli was a little spicy for my boyfriend who doesn't like any spicy, but I thought it was the perfect subtle kick. My boyfriend didn't mind it because it was so yummy. The Ricotta pasta was great and super unique, but it is super sweet, so I'm happy we split. It was a nice restaurant, very clean. We enjoyed the peaceful ambience of the outdoor seating. We arrived ten minutes late for our reservation and appreciated that the restaurant was still able to accommodate us, given how consistently busy it appears to be. Service throughout the evening was efficient. Our dishes arrived remarkably quickly, which initially raised some concern, as they also lacked much heat upon reaching the table. This can sometimes suggest food that is not prepared to order. However, any hesitation was quickly put to rest by the quality of the cooking. We ordered the calamari, funghi pizze, spicy rigatoni primi, cannoli dolce, and several mocktails from the dinner menu. Each item was thoughtfully prepared, well-seasoned, and genuinely enjoyable. We enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service of this cute pasta spot! The kale salad was amazing as people said - very thinly chopped, tossed with a light dressing yet it was so flavorful. The cacio e pepe was delicious, the pasta itself was very al dente, chicken was tender. Vodka pizza has a very thin yet chewy crust - they mastered the dough!
