Meh! Average experience here. The service was rushed. It wasn't even busy but she acted like she was in the weeds. She wasn't very friendly or engaging. We ordered the Vegetable Tarrine and they split it for us in the kitchen and it was OK but a bit greasy. I ordered the Gnocchi and it was fresh and they melted in my mouth. But the portions were modest and I had to eat more bread because I wasn't completely full. The bill was reasonable but I felt that I didn't get my money's worth in the end. read more

My husband and I live in Baltimore. We decided on Sunday to take a drive to Annapolis...walk through the historic district, take in the sites and enjoy the salty breeze. We decided to have lunch in town and came across Osteria 177 on Main St. AMAZING! The prosciutto and melone was very good...one change - I would add another slice or two of melon. The entree was PERFECTION. The Pollo Paillard was amazing...chicken breast pounded very thin, sauteed and topped with arugula, grape tomatoes and shaved parmigiano...and roasted potatoes. A little fresh squeezed lemon on top and you are in heaven! The bread was warm and tasty and the olive oil, some of the best I have had!! As a cocktail I enjoyed the Campari and soda...took me back to Italy. Attentive service, great bar...overall, a lovely experience! read more

My review is not about the food, it is about the management. Last night I presented a gift card that I received from my 2nd grade class when I worked at St. Mary's Elementary. It was given to me a while ago, more than 3 years. There is no expiration date on this card but I had not had the opportunity to use it because of many personal tragedies in my life that have transpired since I was given this card. My husband was hit by a drunk driver while on duty as a police officer, My 95 year old mother had heart surgery and required constant care, then had a stroke and passed away. I also had a stroke last year, but the cherry on top is my brother, a Marine who served valiantly and suffered from PTSD, killed himself as so many veterans do these days. Nevertheless, I was finally downtown with my daughter and decided to try this restaurant which I had never been to before. The hostess brought the supervisor to me (I asked who he was and she said he was the chef) and he chastised me for holding on to the card so long, then said he would not honor the full value of the card $75.00 but would give me a new card for $50.00. I felt like a criminal and my daughter just wanted to leave but we ate a small meal and left. As a lifelong resident of Annapolis I never felt less like a native to what I have always known to be friendly and accommodating city. Sorry, Osteria 177. Great restaurant and service. My son came in and asked for chicken nuggets and pasta (which of course they didn't have since it's an upscale restaurant) but the waiter said to him that he'll bring him something similar. He brought in a chicken Milanese and some pasta and my son devoured the entire plate. Loved my experience there. read more

I've been in Annapolis for three months and this is by far the best place I've been. I recommend lunch, as it has a three course pairing for $15 or so. I enjoyed a reasonably priced, beautiful Sangiovese wine while there that was quite impressed with. If you're in downtown Annapolis, this is what I recommend trying. Not much else stand out. We were in town because our son competed at the nationals and looking for a bite to eat. I typed in the wrong address for a restaurant and ended up in the neighborhood. I just walked in place and asked if they have a table ....it was awesome . Italian fine kitchen with waiters actually know what they are doing and knowing the food. Quality outstanding , we had grilled calamari , pasta in white whine sauce and lobster tail ,mixed seafood soup plus house wine. This is the only authentic Italian restaurant in town. The food actually resembles Italy, unlike Carpaccios, Brio etc which are to be fair Americanized garbage. The owner is Italian, not Italian-American, the food is fresh, and its definitley one of the best place to eat in Annapolis in terms of food alone. I lived in Italy for years, and this is actually authentic, fresh, and made by chefs, not Central American migrants. For lunch, it is remarkably affordable for the high level of quality. My only complaint is that its a dim-lit restaurant., which is unpleasant and not too inviting, and very possibly the reason it doesnt have more traffic. But food and service are top, real, fresh Italian food is not that easy to come by. If only it had a better atmosphere and dining room, I could see that place being Annapolis' most popular place, , because trying the food there its very hard to understand why its not always full. I recommend it especially for lunch, where I spent 35$ for 2 people, I was shocked when i looked at the bill excpecting it to be way higher....fresh pasta, scallops, bread great service. So my husband and I were in Annapolis this past weekend for a weekend get away. I drug him over to VIN 909 due to all the hype about it, and by the time we got there it was an hour and a half to two hour wait. Now I like wine but I was also hungry and my buzz had subsided. Since I made him walk there from downtown we decided to Uber back for a quicker ride. Once we got back into town we were walking up main street and I said, oh this place looks like, I read it was really good. So we popped in during prime dinner time of about 7:00 and the hostess told us that she wouldn't be able to seat us till nine (understandable) and the bar was full. So we said Ok and decided to go to a plan B, however just as we were about to walk out the door the hostess says, Wait a minute, there might be a couple at the bar that is getting ready to get seated in a few minutes. So she went up to the bar for us to check and came back and said "if you don't mind waiting about 10 minutes, we will be seating a couple and you can have their seats at the bar." Due to the fact that we had no reservations and were told that we couldn't be seated at nine and that they were going to seat us within a few minutes, this was great! She told us exactly where to stand at the bar so that we weren't in the way and within 10 minutes the couple was sat at their table and we got to sit down! The restaurant is beautiful and was exactly what I was looking for that night, and they had great wine too..LOL. The service was amazing, our bartender, Chris was just great, very quick and attentive, made great recommendations and attended to all our needs even with the hustle and bustle of the prime dinner rush. We started out with these amazing appetizers. My husband got the grilled calamari since it's one of his favorite dishes and he said it was the best calamari he's ever had. I got an appetizer special with burrata cheese and grilled vegetables. It was amazing. Even the olive oil for the bread was awesome! We were wondering where it came from because it had such a great taste and wanted to get some to take home with us to cook with. Then we proceeded to get our entrees and my husband got the lobster and shrimp dish with squid ink linguine, which was amazing. I got the gnocchi special, it was gnocchi with mushrooms in a cream sauce and black truffle and some more yummy goodness. Everything was just divine. The gnocchi was some of the best we've ever had! We ended with dessert, which was a chocolate mousse and had another night cap, bartenders choice and it just ended up being a great evening. We live in Frederick, MD and frequently go to Volt because it is so good. This restaurant was definitely on the level of Volt and that's hard to come by for us. So we stopped in on a Monday night. So I dont expect nop notch food on a monday, as that is nomally the chefs day off. Specials sheet said the same entrees that were already on the menu, but for $2 more. When we asked the waiter he said "we are aware of the indiscression". And when asked what the risotto of the day was... "We do not have risotto tonight".. {freeze frame as I scan the empty dining room}. $32 dollars for the duck, I asked what the chefs choice of potato and veg would be.."I dont want to tell you because the chef changes it up and it might be different from what I say. I never know what the chef will put out". Well It just so happens I dont gamble on my dinner. That being said the bussers were quite pleasant and I said gracias more than thank you to our waiter.. Peach Bellini ( I was in the mood for bubble, dont ask)- "oh were out of the nectar".. Then take it off the cocktails list. Dont offer it if you dont carry it. The Food (Since thats what most care for) Beef Carpaccio was tasty, as was the prociutto/melon (Creative, I know), and the grilled tomato soup. But we decided to split a veal pasta... half moon, so Im guessing it was titled angelotti. With a veal just butter sage sauce. Awesome. Thats what got them the middle of road review. Panna Cotta was a good consistency although the zaboyonne was soured. Will go back, but not rushing to return. read more

Probably the best by far restaurant in downtown Annapolis today. An impeccable bar which serves some amazing classic cocktails like a true Side Car or Old Fashioned etc. You name it they will probably be able to whip it up. The food is also top notch quality, including house-made pastas. Service is 4 star worthy so far too. It's expensive - but for me the cost/value pair up well. Love this place!!!! The only downside my last visit is a family brought small children in there which this place is NOT friendly to. They apparently didn't care for the food considering all the crying and yelling they did... Not Osteria's fault - clearly that of some very obnoxious heedless parents... read more

Went here for dinner last night. The restaurant was small inside but nice. The food was excellent however the waiter we had was terrible. He messed up our order every step of the way and I communicated some food allergies to him and he never informed me if the food I was eating had taken these into account. I ordered two dinner entrees and explained I wanted them together. Instead I received one entree and then had to wait about 20 minutes for the second entree and I never received the side of spinach I ordered. The waiter gave and charged us for wine we didn't order, did not give us the water we did order and at the end gave us a different table's bill. For such an expensive restaurant, I was surprised with all these mishaps. Nevertheless, I did enjoy all my food there although not sure I would return. read more

Went here with my wife for our ten-year wedding anniversary and got an amazing table and waiter. We were given stellar service, lots of freedom to be on our own, but enough attention so we didn't feel like we were being ignored. Food was great! The only issue we had was with our entrees coming out on time, but our waiter kept touching base with us and telling us they would be out shortly. It took longer than we expected or he expected so he paid for our desserts, sparkling water and coffees. Had and loved the lobster/scallop and the Branzino fish. We will be back for certain! I love it when a restaurant teaches me something new or shows me something different. Osteria has the standards (pasta, white wine, clams) but it is clean and fresh and the plumbist clams ever...so what was new.....the Maryland Chardonnay from Boordy that they suggested...a Maryland wine in an Italian restaurant?, I couldn't resist and I'm glad I didn't! Both were delicious. Something new...pasta purses filled with gorgonzola and a cream sauce with porcini mushrooms, can it get any more decadant? Once again we went with the waiters recommendation on the Maryland wine and did the blended red from Boordy and it cleaned up the palate from the cheese and made you go back for another bite. Cannot thank this place enough. I got engaged Friday night on the water so we then planned on coming to Osteria after to celebrate. Set a reservation at 9 and ran a little late and the chef and staff still accomated us and made the night amazing. Many staff members hugged my fiancé and congratulated her as we walked in the door. The server we had was amazing and super friendly and the food was unbelievable. Many of us have been to Rome before and all agree that their pasta dishes are better than anything we ate in Italy. Thanks again to this amazing staff and to the chef for helping to make our engagement evening amazing. Couldn't recommend a better place than Osteria 177. read more
