We had book club at this spot today on the patio. What a great spot for tacos and drinks! I ordered a Cachito to drink which was mezcal based and a very different drink with additions of vanilla. The pork belly taco was recommended to me and I also got a carne asada taco since that's my standard. The pork belly was topped with some pickled onions. The carne asada taco was topped with guacamole. Both were very good! I added the green table salsa to both and all the flavors went together very well. We ordered the lime tart and tres leches cake to share. Both were divine -- I am not normally a lime dessert gal but this was one was very well balanced and creamy! And honestly with tres leches, you really can never go wrong. Service was very good. read more

The flapjacks are excellent! They need to include more syrup though. They bring more when I ask. I just think they should bring more when the flapjacks come out. It can get pretty noisy inside so I like to go when the weather is temperate enough to eat on the patio. read more

Otro has been a neighborhood staple for years. Food is always great and consistent. I got kind of bored with it (not a breakfast good person, aka eggs) I tend to frequent places that offer non "breakfast" items. I do appreciate they open at 8 am. I just wish they offered some regular food items before 11am. Who decided eggs and pancakes meant breakfast?? I do continue to go to Otro solely based on the morning staff for my early morning fix. Jessica is amazing. Always smiling, even when I'm barely half awake. She has my water and coffee ready within seconds. I don't know everyone's names. The entire staff is great. I took my elderly friend out from Assisted Living to Otro yesterday. They seated us and parked her walker for us. They were so sweet with her through her confused ordering and repeated requests for more syrup for their famous flapjacks. It was a wonderful experience just soaking up the ambiance. We've been coming to Otro for years some of the best chips, guacamole, and salsa of any restaurant we've been to. Very disappointed with visit yesterday. Chips were cold guacamole had firm to hard pieces and it had to cut it with a knife and less flavorful. The meal was very disappointing. All the food was overcooked and definitively less flavorful the fish taco I had smelled fishy. Not sure we will return there, which is very disappointing. read more

Service was excellent, waiter was patient with our many questions and offered up great suggestions. They have nice high booths so it isn't so loud you can't have a conversation like many restaurants. The vegan pozole was amazing! So flavorful and full of veggies. I got the large bowl and it was so filling I had plenty leftover for lunch the next day. Definitely a hidden gem in Phoenix. Everything on the menu is a hit. My go to menu items are the Korean Fried Wings and the Carne Asada Bowl. The service is also amazing. I have had Tatum and Jocy as servers when I've come in and they are always so kind and helpful! The one note I have is the AC is not great in the summer I don't know how the staff runs around in there. Really hope this gets fixed soon. read more

Was tipped by our server from the Fat Ox. If a person wants as close to authentic mexican breakfast food, this is the place. On Sun morning, there was a great vibe, live music. The food is pretty whitewashed. Chilaquiles is basically a tostada, seems to me they don't actually have raw corn tortillas because they only serve flour, but have corn chips? The beans are pinto which is fine but they taste like baked beans. Chips and salsa aren't even free which is a red flag to me. I also ordered the chorizo con huevos and the amount of grease is crazy. Every bite was a soaked egg full of grease. The salsa was very good though and so is the cafe. Overall, they definitely have a good restaurant, but it's far from authentic. read more

Have been coming to Otro for many years now and the restaurant continues to be consistently solid. Flapjacks are fluffy, chewy and delicious. The skillets are a great value and the side of house made tortillas are warm and perfect. Always get extra servings of their green salsa! They hav me recently opened Cafecito, a coffee shop attached to the waiting area. The space is curated and adorable. I have yet to try it out, but am looking forward to spending a morning their with a friend, over coffee and gluten-free cookies or sweet buns! read more

Came on a Monday morning and it was super quiet with no wait but hear there is a line out the door on the weekends. Most at the table has the barbacoa and eggs which was a favorite and actually probably enough for two to share. I had the chilaquiles and asked for both chicken and barbacoa which they were happy to do. If you can't decide between verde and ranchero sauce they have the "x-mas" option which is a combo of both, highly recommended! Small and cute ambience with seating available at a kitchen bar. Wow. Was not expecting this place! I drove by months ago and made a mental note to try some day. Today was the day. The vibe is low key, we were seated immediately. Our server checked for allergies and gave me guidance on the menu and shared the specials. We started with chips and salsa, we were given 2 squeeze bottles of salsa (one green one spicy red), blended together they're perfect. A little later our server dropped by a fresh red salsa- tasted like the ingredients just came from the garden. I ordered the pozole blanco and the asado salad with carne asada. My husband got the huevos rancheros. I didn't know what to expect but every single thing we had was so so good. The portions are HUGE- so plenty to take home. The staff is so friendly and the restaurant itself is lovely. The waiter was very attentive and kind which was a bonus! After ordering, even on a busy day, it did not take more than ten minutes to receive the order. It is definitely a local favorite because of how busy it was. However, the food was a bit of a disappointment. I ordered the huevos rancheros and espresso martini. The dish had a very odd tasting texture. The flour tortilla with the cheese inside and the sauce makes for a weird consistency. Almost gluey in the mouth. For the price paid, not very satisfying. The martini was also a letdown. Not very flavorful. All in all a great place to grab brunch. What you pay in subpar food, you get in great atmosphere and attention. read more

Otro Cafe has two sections. One to sit down and dine and another that works more like a coffee shop/ bakery so you can choose your experience. Despite it being a Monday morning by 10:00 am Otro Cafe was bustling with people, so if you come on the weekends be prepared for a line. The portions of food are large and delicious! I ordered the Consuelo del Sur and wasn't able to finish it! The tomatillo crema at the bottom was really delicious and unique. This place is doing all the right things. We stopped in late afternoon for some bites but ended up ordering more food than planned! Yes it was that good, the flavors and quality was superior. The service was very polite and welcoming throughout our time there. The fresh tortillas were a nice touch as well as the red and green sauce that accompany the tortilla chips. Otro cafe is tucked away in a very small strip mall off of busy 7th street. Not much to look at from the street view and easy to miss. In fact, I've driven by countless times and never noticed it even though my taco senses are always on high alert for Mexican food. I'm not sure what's going on with the dining area but upon entering the restaurant there is a disjointed bar area to the left and another in the main dining area. It looked as though it was a separate establishment and I wasn't sure where to go. Ambiance was casual and the decor as you'd expect from a trendy Mexican restaurant. The seating area was cramped and the noise level a bit high. Multiple staff bustling around and yet service was slow at the bar. I had to flag someone down every time I needed something which I hate doing. I got the feeling that most of the staff seemed less than thrilled to be there. I ordered a Poscal margarita which I had to send back because the heat from the "muddled chilies" was way too intense and I love spicy everything. My replacement house margarita was nothing to write home about; small, warm, boring and $12. I ordered the "Blanca Pozole" and regretted it immediately. The description on the menu sounded enticing but in fact it was very bland. Bland broth, a ton of hominy and I had to search for the one small scrap of pork in the entire bowl. I felt it was lacking the usual flavor from roasted chilies and tomatoes. Basically, you're paying $15 for broth & corn. When I asked the waitress/bartender if I'd gotten the vegan Pozole by mistake she flippantly said "Oh no, they just must not have gotten any pork in there". No offer to fix it nor adjust the bill. Most sad of all, the flour tortillas while seemingly house made where very thick, under cooked and doughy tasting. The garnish for the Pozole missed the mark as well. The avocado was old, discolored and mushy. There was what seemed to be dry oregano on the plate which was like trying to chew small pebbles. Disappointed and out $32 for lunch. Skip this one and head across the street in any direction for $3 street tacos. read more

This place was always my favorite from day one of them opening. I live locally and it used to be one of my favorite places to go. I walked in this past Sunday, it was busy and I'm amenable to that as I sort of understand the flow of the Sunday brunch rush. I was seated, a staff member brought me water and that was all the service I received and after 30 minutes of waiting, I just straight up walked out. Not that I needed a lot of attention, but I got none outside of some water. I will say that this isn't the first time I've received this moment there so going forward Otro will not be my number one choice. I hope that you figure out that one person versus a table of six is just as important. I've been supportive of this place since they opened and honestly I'm sort of heart broken with how it's changed. Needless to say I won't be back for some time to come. read more

The food was fantastic- guacamole was excellent matched with green salsa, medium and hot salsa and chips. Great salsa- quest fundido was awesome. Ordered La Parrillada - Carne Asada and Shrimp family-style tacos: pick two items served on a skillet w/ half dz tortillas, grilled guero peppers & onions garnished w/ cilantro & onions. This was my first time here at Otro. This restaurant was suggested to us by our son as we were all hungry to have breakfast and a late breakfast at that. When we arrived our son directed us to the parking in the rear where there is ample parking as the parking in front is limited to a few parking spaces. As we entered the hostess asked us how many and I told there are three of us. We were immediately taken to our table and our, server James, brought us water and asked if we wanted anything to drink and I said three coffees please. Upon reading their menu, I decided I would would order the breakfast sampler with the chorizo. My wife ordered the frittata and my son ordered the breakfast sampler with bacon. We were not disappointed with our breakfast, and would like to return to try other items on the menu. I must say the service was excellent and our server was on the spot. The ambiance is a comfortable and welcoming setting. As we were leaving I noticed a quote on the wall, of which I did take a photo of, only because I happen to have met the author of that quote in 1972. Walking into the restaurant, the enviornment was very warm and inviting. The service was amazing and our server explained the background of caldo de pollo in a polite but meaningful manner. We ordered Caldo de pollo, chips and salsa, Chicken chilaquiles & Flapjacks. The caldo de pollo is literally chicken pho. I'd rate it a 8/10! The chicken chilaquiles is a 7/10. The chips and salsa however, we would rate it a 4/10. The flapjacks id rate it a 7/10! My biggest concern however was the water. It had a very strong metallic and fishy smell. It reminds me of a wet dog. I assume it's because the cups were not washed very well or It's their tap water. Both me and my friend could not take more than 2 sips of water. This is not meant to be snobby, but it geniunely was unbearable to drink. 5/5 for service 4/5 for food 2/5 for beverage and satisfaction Overall opinion: 3/5. read more
