Truth be told, this was just another visit to an outback steak house. Don't get me wrong: I like the steak. I like the bloomin' onion and all that mess. The visit this time was a bit off. Food: they had reorganized and redrawn the menu. It took a minute just based on the changeup. The food was the same old food. I usually order the sirloin, but due to having two kids with us that were being less than cooperative - that didn't happen. in the wake of child management, I lost my ordering time and, frazzled, just pointed to the bone-in t-bone. Big mistake. Asked for a med-rare cook, and they nailed it, but the meat was just too fatty. Cut off a lot of gristle and was left wanting more. Next time, time management will take priority. Steamed veggies were great, and the sweet potato was served so scorching hot, I burned my mouth and tongue. Not their fault - a heads up would have been nice. Bread was the amazing brown bread and butter. But two loaves for four people over thirty minutes? Establishment: Clean, but noisy as all heck. The wait to sit was about 10-20, as mentioned in my check in from last night. But the wait for the food, plus the wait for the drinks, plus the wait for the appetizers...man the clock just kept ticking. The waiter was very nice, and almost apologetic, and was quick with any after adjustments such as ranch, ketchup etc...I was almost sold on it being an ok experience until the check came and the waiter had given us the wrong check...and walked away. Turns out that we had the check from the table across from us. Small mistake, but just the straw that broke the back on a mediocre experience. This is the closest Outback to us. We love Outback but this location can't seem to get their act together. Ever since the start of the pandemic we've ordered take-away. The order is always missing something and there's always something incorrect. On the occasion that i order from the locations further away they don't seem to have a problem with our order ( we order the exact same thing every time.) i'm hard pressed to believe that there's one person making the mistake since their subpar service spans the years. Get it together Lake Forest. We love Outback. it would be nice to have you in our regular rotation without the frustration. read more

Parmesan crusted chicken, mashed potatoes, and fries were great. Had a gift card and figured we would use it. The staff there was very nice. Can not believe is was basically empty except for 3 other tables at 7:30 on a Monday. Hope this location doesn't end up closing or maybe that's the norm for the area. They are still building so maybe it will bring in more people. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars. It's a chain restaurant with nothing really special about it. Once upon a time I loved Outback. These days I will go to Jacks's or Mickey D's first. Two primary issues: 1. Everything is over salted and over peppered. Not everyone is thrilled with overly spiced food. My wife used to love the Alice Springs Chicken. Last two visits, so much pepper that she could not eat it. She is sensitive to pepper. 2. Requirement to use Ziosk for payment if using a credit card with no exceptions. I have issues with Ziosk ranging from sanitation to credit card security. As a result of both issues we have taken Outback off our list of restaurants to visit. I know, we are only one couple, but we are voting with our dollars. read more

So I do have an update to my review. They did eventually bring back Tarter Sauce after they realize how ridiculous that was, But their newest thing is driving even the people that work there crazy, they are no longer allowed to bring new silverware until they bring the meal out. So if you want a knife for your bread they brought out you need to ask for that now. And if you want to share your salad with somebody else the table they don't have a fork anymore so you need to ask for that now. Some genius thinks they're saving the company money when all they're doing is alienating the customers and their own employees. So earlier today I took my mom out for lunch, we sat in the bar area,we don't go out often. I mentioned to the waiter that I want my burger well done because I'm pregnant. After eating appetizers we weren't really hungry so I took everything to go. When we got home and hungry again I realized after taking a few bites that my burger was raw in the middle.... after nuking this burger for 2 minutes it's still this pink. I know the waiter heard me and I hope that the chefs cooking today realize how dangerous it can be for someone that's pregnant to eat this... when asked for well done, no matter your opinion on it, cook it well done. read more

Went there again. So I don't know if it was just the normal variation in service but everything was pretty good. Nothing was under or overcooked in our group. I think they definitely are worth giving a try as long as you set your expectations that this is a chain. I had the pork chops and they definitely were good. Just right. All the food disappeared quickly so clearly everyone in the group liked what they got. If they show some consistently better service or at least wow me once I think I just might go 5 stars. Been coming here for years now, but a recent experience just had to be mentioned. Showed up late at night, about a hour before closing, with a friend. We both ordered the bone in rib-eye with garlic mashed potatoes. I also got a caesar salad and we ordered two appetizers, the tuna tataki and the deep fried mushrooms. I am a deep fried mushroom fanatic. I always order them when I see them for the first time somewhere. I am usually disappointed when the corn meal crusted ones show up. I remember the extra crispy ones from KFC so many decades ago being the best ever. The tempura battered ones from Bigshots & Billards are also at the top. Well they now have to share that spot with the ones from Outback. They were so plump and full of juice, with a sorta cornmeal batter, but different enough that it wasnt all grainy. The aoili served with them was a perfect match for them. The tataki was overpriced for the dinky 10 strips for 10 bucks. Tasted ok, but not worth it. The salad tasted good and garlicy as usual, but they screwed and missed a huge chunk of the core. I couldnt even cut thru it with my knife when I tested how inedible it was. Not a big deal, but something they should keep an eye out for. The rib eyes were so good (30 something dollars). Pricey but huge and good. I also ordered the sauteed mushrooms and wine topper which was awesome. Its a MUST every time I go back now. I gave some to my friend and he loved it too. I cut my steak off the bone and put it on top of my mashed potatoes to let the juices from the steak and the wine from the mushrooms run into the potatoes. SOOOO GOOD!!! I was only able to finish half of the steak and it reheated up perfectly with the potatoes and mushrooms! read more

We've all been to Outback but Saturday night we went and sat in the bar to have dinner. We had Ushad as our bartender and I have to say he is seriously fantastic. Constantly busy and moving and always attentive of his customers. We shared the rack of lamb which was fantastic and each got soup. We had bread to start I was going to pick an appetizer to share but we decided to be good and just get soup. I got the loaded potato my husband got the French onion which was fantastic. I ended up finishing his. The rack of lamb came with mashed potatoes and bIf you are in this area I recommend this Outback I've been to others and been disappointed but the one in Foothill Ranch never lets me down. ****MISREPRESENTATION**** On Tuesday, June 11, 2019, my friend & I visited this Outback in Foothill Ranch, CA. My friend purchased their gift card offer of "get $10 extra for any $50 gift card purchase." My friend purchased 2 $50 gift cards & she received 2 extra $10 gift cards. My friend was being assisted by Manager, "Gilbert." So my friend asked if she could use one of the $10 gift cards that day. Manger Gilbert said, "yes." Then my friend asked if there are any other specials. Manager Gilbert said, yes, again. He said we could order 1 drink and get a free Bloomin' onion. My friend again asked if she could get the Bloomin' Onion special and also use her newly acquired, $10 gift card. Manager Gilbert again, said yes. When the bill came, my friend included the $10 gift card with her payment. The waiter, Matt, said it was not allowing the $10 to be processed because the Bloomin' Onion special prevented it from happening. So we asked Matt to get manager Gilbert to override it since it was MANAGER GILBERT, who assured my friend that it was ok to use the $10 gift card and also get the Bloomin' Onion offer. Manager Gilbert approached our table and repeatedly denied misrepresenting himself. My friend and I are both college-educated, alive, not deaf and have the command of the English language. We understood what was said in the beginning. This awful manager misrepresented himself just to sell the gift card offers. Disgraceful. The one star is awarded only to Matt, our waiter. Interesting experience this evening, I ordered "loaded" mashed potatoes with my dinner. On my first bite I noticed what I thought was a "lump" of potato. As I continued to chew, I soon discovered it was in fact a piece of coated paper from the sour cream pack used to put sour cream on my mashed potatoes. The manager was very apologetic and offered to replate my dinner with a fresh serving of mashed potatoes. He also noted that they would not be charging me. I was pleased with his professionalism and his offer to comp my meal. When the bill came, the only thing that had been comped was the $1.50 up charge that was associated with the "loaded" mashed potatoes. My hope is that the server misunderstood the manager when she prepared the bill and credited the upcharge for the mashed potatoes versus the meal. We eat at this Outback several times a month, not sure if we will be back after this experience. read more

I ordered through Door Dash. I've not ordered nor been to any Outback for years. Not that I'd had a bad experience but there are better steakhouses and choices. I ordered the prime rib and paid extra for a larger cut so the meal would feed me for that day and the next. And likely the day after that as I don't eat a lot at any one meal. Additionally I paid extra for a wedge salad. What I got was...no prime rib. Door Dash has an automatic response that gives users a choice if the restaurant does not have what you've ordered and the chef will replace it with something of comparable value. I've never had that happen before and quite frankly, I forgot it was even there. So that part is on me. Now the choice specifically says if the restaurant is 'out' the chef may replace it. But I ordered at around 3-4 in the afternoon on a Friday. There are many restaurants that only serve prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays which made me think that it shouldn't have been an issue. See, the restaurant was not 'out' of prime rib, it just wasn't ready to serve quite yet. Ok? Then why is it on the menu that comes up at lunch? All it would have taken was simply noting that prime rib is not available until after 5 pm or whatever time it is available. Other restaurants say that for various dishes offered. I don't know if that is an Outback or a DoorDash problem. But both are quite willing to blame each other. The other issues were that the salad I ordered was soggy and not at all edible, the baked potato was salty and though I'd ordered extra butter, sour cream and chives and no cheese or bacon, I got everything mixed together and in with the potato and meat and warm (yuck). The steak was over cooked and tough. I'd ordered chocolate cake. That was actually good but not what I'd eat for dinner or even lunch. After dinner? Sure. For dinner? No! A big disappointment. The manager did call but from a number with an area code that comes up Palo Alto. Since I'm a full days drive from Palo Alto, I did not answer the phone because I'd ordered from a local Outback and not one in the Bay Area in Northern California. Door Dash got right on this problem. JK! Not really! They credited my account for $3.99, the cost of delivery. Wow! I'll try not to spend that all at once. Thanks DoorDash. For nothing. Door Dash should perhaps study how Uber does it and follow their business plan when it comes to customer service. And Outback Foothill Ranch needs to go over to Outback Laguna Hills and train because I reordered the same from that location as curbside and the service and the food were all great. I've now ordered twice from DoorDash and Outback Foothill Ranch and it's been a fail both times. This last time I ordered and paid extra for a chopped blue cheese salad. There was nothing chopped about it and the pecans? Hiding so well I never did locate them. Same with blue cheese crumbles. And the blue cheese vinaigrette dressing, which is really good by the way, was not provided either. I got regular blue cheese and extra regular blue cheese dressing. I'd requested extra butter. Was given maybe a teaspoon of butter total. I'd hate to see what their regular serving of butter would have been. Non existent I imagine bc it couldn't get much smaller than what I got. I'd requested medium rare, and specifically more rare than medium, as well as, an end cut. Got the end cut. Thank you. But definitely not anywhere close to medium rare. More like medium well. I went with fries bc I did not want a mess of a baked potato again and figured you can't go too wrong with fries. But I give up. I will not be ordering from the Foothill Ranch location again. Online, curbside or dine in, I'm finished. I may, at some point return to the Laguna Hills location, but my feeling is that this is a chain on its way out. The second time in two months I've been disappointed again at this Foothill ranch location. I've been going to this Outback for years averaging 1 -2 times a month. It has steadily gone down hill in the last couple years. Usually the food is pretty good overall unless you go on a day when they are training somebody new. The service is hit and miss. Recently timing with the food has been off. On the last visit December 26, one of the salad brought out was wrong and had to be change and then served just minutes before the main Entrées. One of those was totally wrong so it was delayed and remade. Servers general lack of attention to us and total failure to clear away plates before we paid. Check was wrong too, an extra Entrée was charged and had to be removed. Since this lack of service has been a trend lately, I will think hard before returning to this outback. read more

I have enjoyed some great meals at Outback and sadly, tonight's was not one of them. My daughter loves steak and asked to dine here. Although the steaks were cooked the way we ordered and tasted fine, the lobster tail I had with my filet was barely larger than the small butter dish that accompanied it (as seen in the photo) I finished the lobster in two bites. The salads we ordered were simply chopped iceberg lettuce (in both the Caesar and house), a few tomatoes and croutons - very lackluster. Came in at 8pm on a Sunday evening. Waited 5 minutes to be seated. No worries. The hostess was great and chatty. The server, who wasn't wearing a name badge, was nice enough. My frustration is that we both ordered the all you can eat shrimp. The menu says they keep "them coming," but we didn't find that to be the case. The wait for each order was more than ten minutes. What's the point of all you can eat if you're sitting there waiting for your refill. We've ordered the all you can eat shrimp before at another location and they really did keep them coming. My complaint is not against the server, my complaint is against the management at the location who apparently, according to the server, has a rule about bringing out refills of the all you can eat shrimp. I received a gift card for my birthday and to be truthful the last time I ate here-October 31 2019 the service was non existent. Not today as we were served by Molly and Mauricio who were A#1 in taking care of us with fast-efficient and friendly service. Hadn't been here in a long while. It's nice that you can get on wait list over the phone as it puts you first to be seated. First impression walking in is that the restaurant has a very distinct bad smell. Not sure what it is, but it's a bad odor. Thought about leaving, but we had kids with us. Food was ok, but my filet had a funny twangy taste to it. Maybe that's the odor at the door? Our waiter was wonderful and it was very busy. He was right on time with everything. We have been to this location many times and have NEVER had a complaint so this will be a first. Arrived 6:30 and restaurant was not busy.. Waiter professional and friendly, but failed to bus table prior to meal being served. There was also debris on floor under table and women's bathroom was dirty. Food took a long time to get the table which wasn't a problem as I was having a great conversation. However when it did arrive it was barely warm. Wife's food was OK, but also luke warm. Manager replaced my food and comped my portion of the bill. I appreciated this...however he might also have offered us free desserts due to delay and negative experience. read more

We come from North Tustin for dinner generally on the early side. It is a snap to get there, freeways all the way. Much nicer than the tired locations in Newport or Laguna Hills. The current COVID-19 situation has not diminished our positive experience.
