Was in CLE for a day to visit family. They wanted to go to Outback. When getting directions I noticed a 2 star rating. I thought this can't be right. My family loves the Outback near our home. We got to the restaurant. Seemed clean enough. Hostess was very polite. Our waiter wasn't the smartest person but he was trying. Drinks were kept full and the order was taken correctly. Our food was disgusting. Three of us got some sort of steak. There was a strange unidentifiable flavor to them. Tried adding salt and pepper. Whatever it was we couldn't cover it up. The side dishes obviously had sat around way too long. I got the new pasta steak and shrimp dish. The pasta was over cooked. The steak part was 4 small pieces. Maybe an inch by an inch. The shrimp portion looked good. I picked one up and all 5 pieces were stuck together. Flavor was okay once I pulled them apart but rubbery. For $24 I just expected a better portion size. My husband I will choose to go to an Outback for a good steak dinner on a budget. On this particular Saturday night, we were pretty disappointed overall. The server was nice but the food was timed poorly and several things had to be corrected. The cocktails were the only thing that came out correctly. The blooming onion appetizer that my husband ordered was overly greasy. I ordered my steak medium and my husband ordered his medium well. I received the medium well steak and he received a medium steak. We had ordered different cuts of meat so it wasn't just as easy as switching meat on the plate. They took his meat up in temperature but I ate my steak anyway as by that point in time we have been waiting 25 minutes for any food whatsoever and I was starving. My husband chose to have a baked potato for a side dish and no salad or soup. I chose to have french onion soup and mashed potatoes. Somehow, he received a baked potato and mashed potatoes. All of the food seemef to come out almost at once. The team was apologetic, but didn't seem overly bothered by the mistakes. We were also seated close to their takeout door and every time the door opened a very cold breeze blew into the restaurant chilling half of the patrons. Had an awful experience with how the steak was cooked on a to go order. Came back with the entire food order and they would not take it back within a couple of minutes and insisted on cooking another batch which ended up just as overcooked as the first. My partner and I visit Outback fairly regularly and we are disappointed to say that this dining experience was substantially less than desirable. We arrived around 2:10 pm, were seated right away and placed our orders rather immediately. That's when the swiftness halted. We proceeded to wait 40 minutes for bread, another 15 minutes for our salad and soup, then very shortly after, our entree. Sounds like an ideal order for any experience except for our blooming onion, the sole purpose of our visit, came out an hour and 20 minutes AFTER being ordered and with the onion nearly raw. We were comped for our appetizer and given a $10 complimentary gift card to make up for it. However, we had to remind our server and the gentleman that delivered our meal for it multiple times. The gentleman delivering the food said it was on its way and, low and behold, our waitress confessed to forgetting ringing it in. Once the waitress took our order, she stayed away for an extended period of time and checked on us in passing a total of maybe 3 times in the over hour and a half we were there. This is not the standard we have grown accustomed to at Outback restaurants and we hope forgetfulness and mediocrity are not becoming the new standard. I mentioned it to the hostess and she said, "Well, we've been open since 11 and no one else has complained." I said, "Well, I guess that means I'm wrong." I walked through the entire restaurant and it was the same, though stronger near the front. It is possibly from the heavy rains of late. Either that or they are wiping every table with a dirty bar rag. Either way, it's bad, and the failure to address it is unacceptable. Food was mediocre and looked like a TV dinner on the plates. Meanwhile we overheard our neighbors in the next booth complaining to our waitress that they hadn't gotten THEIR Bloomin' Onion... The waitress came back to check in and we asked about the Bloomin' Onion. She said. "Oh, you haven't gotten that yet?" and walked off. It finally came out, and we ate a grand total of about 5 bites. Worst Customer Service Ive ever had. Went in at 2:45 pm on Sunday, July 30 for my wife's birthday. Despite only four or five tables seated and dozens of tables cleaned and open, we were told by an unfriendly hostess it would be a 10-15 minutes wait. Seemed crazy but I was trying to have a good time and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Five minutes later a party of two come in. Then a party of four. Then another couple of two. None of the parties could believe there was a wait. One woman in the party of four walked to the restroom and expressed serious disbelief to her friends upon returning. She suggested they leave and go elsewhere. Then someone who looks like a manager enters. A couple minutes later and he made his way to the hostess station. The unfriendly hostess has done nothing all this time. It's been over 20 minutes now. He takes the couple of two and seats them. Ok. It's not like the restaurant is crowded and there's only a table of two open. That i could understand. Then this guy takes the second couple of two. Are we not here? Is two plus two that you seated not four? Was i not looking to spend $100-$150 on a nice birthday dinner. We got up and walked out before we could be further disappointed but this clown of a manager who clearly doesn't understand that people going out to dinner and spending far more than they would eating at home are expecting to be treated well!! For a Friday night the place was full but not super busy, we got a table immediately and our server swung by for drinks shortly after. We both ordered 6 oz steaks and shrimp with side salads (our server immediately explained there was no romaine for the Caesar salads which we understood) our food was DELICIOUS. The coconut shrimp was plump and super crispy, the citrus sauce on the side wasn't too sweet like most pineapple dipping sauces that come with coconut shrimp. my steak was perfectly cooked and the side of sautéed mushrooms were cooked in wine and delicious. my guests steak was a little under cooked and one of the chefs brought it back perfectly cooked and apologized.
