I am a huge fan of hand pulled noodles so I was so excited to see this spot open up in downtown Mountain View. I enjoyed it so much, especially in the cooler weather, that I went twice in one week! Parking was easy enough along one of the side streets in downtown. I first came on a Monday night around 6:30 pm and then again on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm and both times we were seated right away. We ordered using the QR code. I got the spicy lovers soup both times and loved the broth which isn't overtly super spicy but has a spice that creeps up on you. It comes with a bunch of fresh bok choy. It was a little oiler than I initially expected but still super tasty. I only wish you could choose the noodle type for this soup. While you can pick your noodle type for most soups, you can't for this particular one. My husband got the lanzhou handpulled noodle soup which he enjoyed. He also came another time and got the spicy ground pork dry noodles which he enjoyed even more than the soup. My friend got the braised beef stewed knife cut noodle soup which she enjoyed but definitely needed to add somw chili oil for a bit more flavor. We also shared the chili oil noodles which were tasty. We frequent the location in San Mateo and the quality control is great - tastes exactly the same as in San Mateo! We love Ox9 as there is a large variety of differently flavoured noodle dishes. As for the broth, I preferred the Special Beef Bone Soup. Compared to the spicy broth of the Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Noodles, the clear broth of the Beef Bone Soup better highlights the rich umami flavor of the bone broth. Tried to add ourselves on the tablet but didn't work, a server came by and I tried to tell him but he essentially just ignored me, was very poor customer service. Told another person who came by who told us we could just wait for the table outside as we wanted, and the first person came by to tell us to put ourselves on the waitlist. He just did it for us. Order using QR code, I got the spicy noodle with wide noodles (no meat, veggies only). Lots of noodles, perfectly chewy. The chili wasn't very spicy, noodles didn't have a ton of flavor. Lots of food though! They use plastic cups for water which isn't great, and one of the servers brought out a container of water for my friend's dog which was nice of her! It's a pretty spiral cut, but you have to then use the scissors to separate it out - Mala spicy beef noodle: with knife cut noodles. The noodle texture was great, but the broth was quite greasy - Lanzhou hand pulled noodle: their standard / signature noodle. Many of the other options can't be made non spicy, but you can make this one non spicy, so it was good for kids. It comes with a few slices of beef and a lot of cilantro and scallions but no other veggies - Chili oil noodles with braised beef: these come with wide belt noodles. The beef was tender and had good flavor, and I'm glad I added some steamed vegetables for $3.50 to round it out Food came pretty quickly. Hands down the best Chinese beef noodle stew (besides in Lanzhou). Out of all the location in the area this one is my favorite. They are always consistent with noodles, broth, and taste. Beef is tender and soup is savory. (Depending on which bowl you order) Only thing I would say is getting pickle here wouldn't be worth it as it is a lot more given that other location. (Unless you prefer the sour taste, I usually just use the table provided vinegar. I personally prefer the medium round as well since I enjoy the hand cut feeling (where every noodle is a different texture, shape, and size). With hand cut the differences are more prevalent. Beef stew noodle if you like savory. (My go to) The original if you like more clear. The Mala if you like spicy (get the thick flat noodle) The vegetarian Dan Dan noodle is also amazing. As to complaints only thing I would say at this specific location the pig ear sauce is not as savory as the other locations and the calamari portion is on the smaller side. Wanting to see if he would continue to wear those same gloves, he not only removed them but proceeded to wash his hands before putting on a new pair of gloves! We really enjoyed the light broth in the Lanzhou noodles soup and the large flat noodle was my favorite. It was the perfect texture and chewiness. The broth in the braised beef was very flavorful and hearty but I didn't enjoy the belt noodles as much. It felt a bit dough-y. We all were so full afterwards as the portion was huge.
