This place is looking good! Last minute date dinner and they delivered with the food and the service. Nice vibes all around. Best part was the different flavors with the food.
Overall, very happy with everything here! Service, food, lively environment -- all really great! I was in the mood for some jerk chicken and made the drive from Hercules to try this spot out. Would not change a thing. I will definitely be back!! Food 5/5: - Street Food Doubles: kinda reminded me of a taco but really great starter - Beef patties: packed with flavor and a tiny kick - Oxtail Stew: SO much flavor. Tender meat, stew was stewin perfect to pour over the rice - Half Jerk Chicken: exactly what I was looking for and they delivered! I love plantains for the sides. Gotta find street parking or there's a parking lot around the corner where the old hardware store is. Parking spots say it's for hardware store customers but that hardware store is no longer open.
I was a little scared to try this place because I didn't want to be let down but this place is fire!! The food is flavorful, the drinks are tasty, and the staff is nice! It's nice and spacious inside but they also have patio seating. I'm so happy tried this place. I need more oxtails! Parking: there's street parking but there's a lot a lot close by.
Came for an early Mother's Day celebration on a busy Saturday and had an incredible experience! The South American and Caribbean flavors were so rich, bold, and vibrant in every dish. I loved the jerk pork tacos! The pork was juicy, tender, and aromatic, and the mango-papaya salsa added a refreshing sweetness. I also tried the paella Oyo that my sister ordered which was sooo yummy and full of protein. The small size was more than enough! My mom ordered the oxtail stew which wasn't on their brunch/lunch menu (dinner only), but I really appreciate that they were accommodating to make that dish for her. I've never had oxtail and it was delicious--tender, perfectly sweet and savory, and paired well with the plantains. The other dishes that my family ordered were hits too (jerk pork shoulder and seafood paella). We also tried the ripe plantains pancake Oscar for a sweet treat. I love anything marshmallow, so the brûléed marshmallow cream that blanketed the pancakes was heavenly. It also came with a plantain on top and a few other fruits to balance out the sweetness. Overall, we left full and all around very satisfied. The staff showed us such warm hospitality and came around often to check on us, despite being an almost packed house. The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere had a fun lively energy. With indoor and outdoor seating options, anywhere you get seated is a nice spot. Can't wait to visit again to try their dinner menu items and drinks, and hopefully catch some live music!

I came here for lunch with a co-worker and the place was deserted. There was only 1 other party. However, I heard this place is hopping in the evenings. Inside the decor is very colorful and lively. I was happy to see that they have a lunch specials menu, so I'm not overwhelmed by too many choices. Most of the items are "jerk" and they have a few vegetarian options too. I never know what to expect when I see "jerk" flavoring, but I expect some heat, which was missing from the items we ordered. The food was well seasoned, but lacked any heat. Pulled jerk chicken sandwich - this was a tower. It was small like a slider but very tall and packed with lots of chicken. It was very tasty, and I especially liked the plantain chips. The little side salad was nice too. It could use some heat, but still very tasty.
Absolutely spectacular!!! I would have never guessed that a Guayanan restaurant would be in downtown Pleasanton but so glad I found it! The service is friendly and knowledgeable. The space is vibrant and spacious. They have a full menu and full bar including mocktails and delicious drinks like a sparkling mango lemonade that felt like a vacation drink. I ordered the pork shoulder dish with plantain and rice with black beans. The pork was juicy, tender, and crispy on the outside. It had this amazing green sauce on top that sort of reminded me of chimichurri. My friend had the run down fish out of curiosity but she loved the sea-bass in white wine sauce. My husband ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and he left no crumbs. They can accommodate very large groups and they have a private room. A must try in the TriValley!
We had a great experience at Oyo! The drinks and food were excellent, and every single dish we ordered really hit the mark. The Food: Street Food Double: The chutneys were incredibly flavorful, pairing perfectly with the well-cooked chickpeas. The bara pockets were wonderfully soft and delicious. Beef Patties: The pastry was beautifully crisp and savory. The spiced short rib filling was a total delight--it had a nice kick to it without being overly spicy, which I loved. Oxtail Stew: Generous portion size with plenty of chunky meat that literally falls off the bone. It was perfectly marinated in a great blend of spices. Pairing the stew with a side of their coconut rice is highly recommended! Banana Bread Pudding: Having heard so much hype about this, it was just alright for me. It was cooked perfectly and I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet, but it lacked a real wow factor. The Drinks: Red Wine Sangria: Really nice, refreshing, and fruity. Chase The Devil: Fun to try if you want something different, and it has a decent kick, but I would probably skip it next time. The restaurant itself is spacious with plenty of seating. On top of that, the servers are friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. Definitely worth a visit!
Had a great first time tonight! We ordered the tomato salad, pork shoulder, island salmon, a half portion side of the plaited bread with the amazing butter and the bread pudding for dessert. Everything was immaculate. We sat outside on a nice Saturday night and service was great! They were very attentive and checked on us often. We were also seated very quickly as they have plenty of seating. We also didn't have trouble with parking. Will definitely be back to try out more on the menu.

I only took one photo!!! lol I highly recommend making a reservation,; outdoor seating is limited but If you time it during off hours you should not have a problem. I prefer outdoors on a sunny day, but it is noisy with traffic. Also, they are pet friendly on the patio!! Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. I had a mojito, it was strong!!!! Yet yummy. They're very friendly, a friend wanted the jerk tacos, not on their evening menu but the server was happy to accommodate. Their oxtail stew also looks delicious, if you like that... I went with the paella Oyo, I really recommend it because you get all the things... surf, turf and sausage with just the perfect crisp of rice at the crust.
Oh my god. I came here for brunch and have already made plans to go back again for dinner. ITS JUST THAT GOOD We came here with a group of 9 on a Saturday afternoon and immediately got seated. Service is sooo nice! We came here for the unlimited mimosas which were super yummy and also came with a variety of choices for the juices. They had guava, strawberry, mango, and fresh squeezed orange juice! For food, we got the brunch pancakes and omelette to share! Both were 10/10!! The pancakes had a bruleed marshmallow on top of it that was to die for while the pork belly on the omelette was one of the most flavorful and softest pork bellies I've ever had! Definitely recommend!!
Great healthy option in downtown! Not busy during weekday dinner, service was quick. Interior decoration represents the food well. Can't go wrong any of the plantain dishes. I really enjoyed the pork maduro (tapa $9, entree $19) which was a giant plantain with bell peppers, garlic, and cream. The prices justify the portion size and tastes. The pork shoulder ($26) was a solid option for protein and veggies. Mojo sauce, I think it's chimmichuri was fresh and herby which compliments well with the pork. Plantain added the sweetness to the dish. Braided short rib was good, has some char, but it is a heavy dish, so maybe it needs something like veggies to go with it.

We have been to this restaurant many times over the years. Recently, they expanded taking over the adjacent retail space. This was the first time I've been for lunch. It didn't disappoint. The flavors were delicious, the presentation appealing, and the ambiance exciting. The only thing if not was the service which was a little slow. read more
The first and most recent time I had Oyo was as take-out during the pandemic. I remember liking it well and thinking I'd like to eat there in the dining room sometime. After walking by the place nearly once a week for the last few months, I finally stopped in with my family. The reception was quick and courteous. Seating on the patio was great, even on a December evening. Oyo has things arranged right and heaters pointed correctly to make it a great experience. Service was reasonably quick, given how busy it was. Food came out as it was ready and still hot. The real bummer here was the food, though. Given the more than a thousand ratings averaging 4.5 stars, I was surprised. The dough balls and sauces appetizer (I forget the actual name) were great. The baked mac and cheese was a letdown. It had little flavor and seemed to be made with pasta rather than macaroni. Some salt would have helped a lot. The channa was OK. There was a lot of butter/oil in it. There was some spice, which is what saved it. The vegan paella, which should have been the star of our dishes, lacked spices and seasoning like the mac and cheese. It also had a lot of oil, so much so that it was all that remained on the palate after a bite. The best part of the paella was the crispy rice around the edge at the bottom. Obviously, I'm in the minority here with my experience. Maybe I'll decide to stop in again sometime for a third impression. read more

expensive enough that i couldn't justify going here often, but the trip is well worth it if you're able! went here with my family after the four of us had been apart for a while, and the restaurant really helped make our reunion even better i have celiac and can get sick from even the most minimal gluten cross-contact, and felt very confident eating here. the waiter knew which GF items weren't celiac-safe, and was overall very friendly and helpful chickpeas were so flavorful--even yummy to my sibling who normally doesn't like garbanzos. really, every dish was tasty. the cocktails were a lot of fun too as a vegetarian, i do have fewer options here, but i think the options they do have are really strong read more

I love Oyo. If you want to eat somewhere and stare at the menu for a while because there are so many good options, this is the place to go. If you're looking for a good date night spot, or to have a nice dinner with friends, try coming to Oyo in Pleasanton. The servers are very astute and will regularly be close by to be at your service, and are very friendly. My mouth is watering thinking of the paella , and even though I was full I couldn't get enough. Coming here again! read more

Oyó is a gem in Pleasanton. It was our first visit and we were very impressed!!! Oyo's food was exquisite! Everything was delicious! We had Jerky chicken, Jerky pork shoulder, oxtails, awesome chickpeas, shrimp, a lobster Mac&cheese, and a tropical salad! Everything were favorites! The place is beautiful, colorful and inviting! Loved Oyo! Came here for an anniversary dinner, and it was perfect. Really original food served in a modern/fancy (to me) way. Everything was delicious, drinks were reasonably priced and strong, and service was consistently good. Great place to order a few dishes and go family style. read more

To me, the standout dishes were goat curry and the run down fish! the coconut flavor in the fish was creamy and sweet. the flaky roti-like bread was such a delicious accompaniment to the goat curry. i was a bit skeptical ordering this dish because i've never had goat before, but it was amazing. the ambiance was really nice too. super colorful interior and live jazz! i would say to make a reservation beforehand though because our party of 4 had to wait over an hour. i would come back! read more

I loved this spot! Most of the patrons were outside but my sister and I wanted to sit indoors. We were instantly sat down at the table and our server was so sweet! We ordered the Calypso Ceviche and skillet bread for appetizers. Both were delicious and fulfilling. We also drank a red wine sangria and chasing the devil, which were both refreshing. Our main entrees were so flavorful: oxtail Stew and Guyanese cook-up rice. We'll definitely be back soon! read more

BOMBSHELL! I will DEFINITELY be going back! I enjoyed my food! Highly seasoned and even when I asked for some spiciness, they came with some REAL spiciness! I brought that back home! My drink was great! I got the Guyanese Cook-up Rice! The coleslaw was delicious and the rice was flavorful as well! My sister got the Oxtail Stew and enjoyed it as well. We made this place our last stop on our foodie day and it absolutely ended on a blast! The place felt homey and a place you can bring friends, family, or even a date. My husband and I came here for date night on Saturday. After looking at their menu and driving by the colorful patio umbrellas we knew we had to try it out. We were seated right away, no wait on a Saturday night is great! We were given menus and drink orders were promptly brought out. We ordered the calamari appetizer and it was very good! I liked the seasoning and dips. For dinner I ordered the salmon and my husband ordered the jerk chicken. Both meals were brought out with plantains as a side. My salmon was very good, but pretty standard tasting. My husband really loved the jerk chicken. The only negative was that my husband had to ask for a refill of his soda a couple times and waited until he was almost finished with his dinner until he got it. We paid the bill and as we were reviewing the charges later on we noticed they charged us $5 for a refill. The waitress never mentioned a refill fee nor is it listed on the menu. He didn't even finish it because it was brought out so late. Kind of left a bad taste so not sure we'll be back. read more

My mouth is watering just remembering my meal here. This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time. The food, service, and ambiance were impeccable. Our server was so friendly and the food was just fall-off-the-bone tender and seasoned to perfection!! Omg I never knew I could love South American / Caribbean food so much. The $33 paella dish honestly was small for the price. The spoon would not go in more than 2 inches. Thats how small the portion is. To make matters worse the paella was watery, bland, and the veggies and THREE shrimp tasted thawed out which would explain the watery taste. Waste of money and space in my tummy. Im disputing this mess with Amex! The jerk tofu was a joke. The flavor was more curry although it did not look that way. To add salt to injury, the curry flavor was overpowered by the canned whole tomatoes that was used in the dish. The jalapenos did not taste fresh, more so of the gas from the grill that charred it and the cheese seemed like an afterthought. The only redeeming thing here was the appetizer of overpriced green plantains that had the dip wiped on the plate underneath the plantain so you couldn't even see it! That $9 mocktail was a mockery! The orchid and pineapple on there was a waste of space and did not make sense. I don't recommend these dishes and this establishment. I fell for the story but that food did not match up. There are way many better ones in Oakland or SF. Save your money and gas! read more

My favorite restaurant! The food, the service, the ambience 10/10! The beef patties are amazingggg and also beautiful! I had their jerk tacos before also yummy! The chicken and waffles omg!! So much food. So filling and good. The waffles were perfect and crisp. The chicken was full of flavor and juicy. The drinks are great as the bartender is not light handed at all. The vibe of this place is great! Super fun and cute. Vibrant and lively! I would definitely go again for a drink and the live band but the food left plenty to be desired. I ordered the beef patty and it was so heavily spiced with curry that you couldn't taste anything else. I also had the fryup rice which was a mushy mound of rice and peas with tiny oxtails mixed in that had little to no meat on them. It was also supposed to have chicken in it but it didn't. The flavor was good but overall the dish missed the mark for me. My cousin got the Mac and cheese as well and it was a good pasta dish but it definitely wasn't Mac & cheese read more

We came here on a Friday night around 6:30 PM and got seated right away outside! The servers were nice and attentive. We ordered one of the specials, the ceviche trio and the Oyo paella. It came with pickles for the table (?). The food is okay, the ceviche was like one bite each per ceviche we tried. One of them was too bland and the other too oily but the one in the middle was good. The Oyo paella had too much "stuff" and not enough rice for a good ratio. It was a little oily as well. Overall it was an okay meal, I don't think I'll be back soon however I'd be opened to trying it again in the future! read more

BOMB!! The squid ink pasta... my mouth is watering just typing about it. Has shrimp, clams, squid and the seasonings make it superb! The beef patty- The best! The crust is tasty AF too. I have visited this restaurant multiple times and I didn't realize I had not posted a review. We went lastnight and split two salads. The tropical salad and the octopus salad. I always order a side of sweet plantains too to go with whatever I order. We also ordered a cup of the pumpkin soup which was absolutely positively delicious. I mean. Creamy, dense and smoky. If you haven't tried it, I must say it is a must... Friday nights they have live music and the place was packed so it's a cool place to relax and enjoy good music and excellent food. Definitely a lively atmosphere so if you are looking for something more quiet and intimate you might consider trying it another night. read more

Came here to celebrate my dad's bday & to try a new cuisine. The vibes are there & it's super crowded, so highly recommend making a reservation before coming (which I did). We started off with some drinks and the pholourie & sizzling jerk shrimp appetizers. The pholourie was a miss/kinda lacking in flavor, and the jerk shrimp had the potential to be delicious, but it just had SO much oil, it was shocking honestly... For the mains we got the paella oyo, island salmon, and the mac & cheese. These dishes were MUCH better than the apps, I'd say you can completely skip the apps honestly. The paella was the star of the show, so tasty & cooked to perfection. The salmon was also delicious, very flaky and juicy and paired really nicely with the rice. The mac was so so in comparison, could've done w/o it but it was pretty good! Just needed more seasoning. To end it we got the banana bread pudding which was kinda meh, don't think I'd get that one again. Overall not a bad experience, certain items are a hit or miss but worth trying once I think! read more

We LOVED this restaurant! Stopped here after wedding dress shopping with my daughter across the street. We sat outside on a very hot, summer Saturday around noon. Our experience was pleasant. We enjoyed the brunch menu which is only available on Saturdays & Sundays from 11:30AM TO 2:30PM. Among the dishes we enjoyed were the Jerk Beef Hash, the Oyo Breakfast, Caramelized Ripe Plantains, Jerk Pork Shoulder, and the Paella Oyo. Everything was delicious. Definitely a great pick for authentic Caribbean dining. Service was great. Wait time was just right. Overall an excellent dining experience. We would definitely go back to Oyo Restaurant. read more

Great ambiance and friendly service as soon as you enter - it's a very lively area with reggae music and vibrant colorful walls. They only have a single restroom though - and it is unisex - so only 1 for everyone in the restaurant. We went on a Sunday for lunch and were seated immediately. Located in downtown so you'll have to find street or public parking in the area. We ordered the tropical salad, beef patties, and jerk half chicken. Tropical salad (7/10): refreshing taste with plenty of tropical fruits including mango, jackfruit, papaya. The dressing was light and tangy. Good but for the price, small portion. Beef patties (9/10): tapas style. Came super hot and crispy on the outside. Very flavorful filling on the inside with meats, bell peppers, and spices. Would highly recommend as a side snack! Jerk half chicken (6/10): Jerk seasoning was good on the chicken skin, but the biggest downside was the chicken was so dry on the inside! We only ate around the skin areas. Would like to come back and try their paellas and other dishes. read more
I was in the San Ramon area for work and convinced a friend from the Silicon Valley to come out to say hello. The pressure was on to find the right place to eat since both of us had challenging drives to get to the area. So I spent a good bit of time looking at reviews for various places in the area. Glad I chose Oyo. It's in downtown Pleasanton which means street parking or finding a public lot. Should have allowed myself a bit of time for that, but the mojito washed that slight lateness away quickly! I had the seafood paella and my friend ordered jerk chicken. We were both really glad we agreed to share up front. Both were well flavored for the dish which means alternating between the two was great! The paella had a lot more seafood in it than a lot of places do (have had issues where the rice totally overruns the protein, no problem with that here!). Both were fairly large servings too so my friend had lots of leftovers to take home. But as you see we were having so much fun I forgot to take photos of the meal! The staff (and other patrons) were friendly and we never felt rushed. Had the chance to visit leisurely and didn't feel rushed since the night we were there they were busy but never had people waiting for tables. We opted for indoor dining due to a heat wave but outdoor seating options are usually my fave so maybe next time! read more

Dairy allergy here. Does the ox tail stew or paella have butter or milk in it?
You should always ask the waiter before consuming. From my experience they sometimes add milk or dairy cream. If you don't get an answer then I suggest you pass.
Do they serve lunch at 12? Or just breakfast?
Yes as my wife and friends had lunch there a month ago. We had reservations at 11:30am and were seated promptly. Don't believe there were any breakfast items on the menu, so I assume they serve only lunch and dinner.
