Don't bother ordering any type of roll off the menu, the chefs make whatever they want. It was horrible, the menu didn't list lemon chunks, yet there were lemon chunks all over, among other things. I have never written a review on Yelp before, but my recent experience at Ozen Sushi in Lake Forest was the worst I've ever had, so I feel compelled to share it. I couldn't agree more with the other reviews regarding the customer service. The young waitress who attended our table was extremely rude. When I asked her to clarify something on the menu, she seemed "pissed" that I needed clarification. Providing that kind of assistance is part of her job. If she is so unhappy to be there, she should consider working elsewhere. What I don't understand is why the staff was so unfriendly when we came in with a positive attitude and tried to be nice despite their initial rudeness. If you're in customer service, you should be prepared to provide a good experience. My friend treated me to dinner, and I wished she hadn't left a tip at all. A tip is not an obligation; it's given for good to great service. As for the food, it wasn't impressive either. We would have been better off at In-N-Out--cheaper, tastier food, and great service! I also noticed that even the chefs behind the counter seemed depressed. There were no smiles or "thank yous," unlike the other Japanese restaurants I've been to. This is a cute sushi restaurant in the Foothill Ranch courtyard by the movie theater. It's great to come for a meal after watching a movie. We come here a lot. My husband and I have come to Ozen Sushi for over 15 years. The owner Paul is always nice and welcoming to us and the staff is amazing. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. Their pricing is very fair with the outstanding service and quality. They still offer happy hour buy one beer or hot sake get the second one for $2. Came here for lunch because I was in the area to get ding tea. I'm actually shocked at how high the reviews are. Don't get me wrong, the place is not bad, but food is very mediocre at best. I ordered the lunch crunch roll/sushi special. It comes with a crunch roll along with four pieces of sushi which includes salmon, yellowtail, tuna, and shrimp. Within 5 mins of me ordering, my meal came. The crunch roll was basically a California roll with tempura on top and a tiny shrimp tail at the very end of the roll. And the sushi was sliced fairly thin with rice. It seemed like the fish was just slapped on top of the rice. The service was ok. When I came in, it was pretty empty so one of the servers pointed me to a table. I was not offered water probably because I brought my boba, but I should have still be offered. My go-to sushi place. I've been having the hardest time finding a sushi restaurant that is within reasonable distance from where I live AND has fair prices. There are so many restaurants around here that overprice their sushi rolls. All of the places around me charge $8+ for a California roll. CALIFORNIA roll. You won't see those inflated prices here. Also, there is a huge variety in food offered besides sushi. Poor food and poor service. I wanted to go to Ozen due to the fact that I had a gift cards (which we couldn't use together hence first visit and second visit). First time was fine, but the rolls were poorly made and there's nothing especially tasty or appealing about the food here. The price is too much for what they give you, both for quality and quantity. This second time I went with a family member who didn't like raw fish but since it's a fusion restaurant I figured there were other options. Now the thing is that we don't eat beef and my relative wanted chicken ramen. They make the ramen from packaged shin ramen which should have been a red flag to us. There were only mild and spicy flavors too. Got the ramen and we found floating bits of beef. The waitress took it back but then came back to say that their ramen used beef broth and all their kitchen based items probably will have beef and be contaminated with beef products and suggested we get the fresh rolls or salad. My relative ordered the avocado salad. The thing is that not only should something be safe for you to eat but it's got to be tasty as well and this salad was not tasty. The dressing was bad and they clearly didn't check the quantity of the leaves and other bits in there. Terrible. Would not recommend going if you can make this stuff at home. Tried Ozen for the first time last weekend. We love sushi and like to try new places on occasion. We usually stick to our favorites, but like to venture out to try to find the next favorite too. Woman staffing the counter took one look at us and told us we couldn't eat inside so we either had to order to go or eat on the patio, even though there were people eating inside and plenty of tables available since only two tables had people sitting there. My companion wanted Japanese food so this was the only option, to endure their rudeness. Maybe the food will make up for the atrocious service? Nope. Food is overly sweet. I ordered the lobster roll combo which was false advertising as there's zero lobster and only defrosted crawfish drowning in sugary mayo sauce on it. They do everything to make you feel unwelcome. Eating at Ozen for the first time made me realize how different the quality is from an "okay" cheap Sushi buffet from an excellent restaurant. I've"settled" for buffets because the quality of the usual Japanese sushi places I've been to in Lake Forest aren't great but I'm super happy with my experience from Ozen. I ordered a Chirashi Dinner Bowl and was so happy with the quality I was getting for $15 that I even ordered a couple of extra Salmon Lover rolls and White Tuna sashimi. The quality of the fish is the best I've had so far since I've moved to this area. My mom ordered the soft shelled crab and the yakisoba but I'm sad to say that we've had better. It's not bad, it just didn't wow us just like how the sushi did. Service was great, the waitresses were kind and polite. Place was kept clean, and they made sure that they checked the line (yes there was a line to get into this place!) so they could seat the dine-in customers and separate them from the take-out customers which was nice since it kept the dine-in customers from having unnecessary waiting times in line. Service was fast too! If you're craving for sushi and still on the fence, just go for it! You won't be disappointed. read more

Food - mediocre at best, think it's odd that if you order to eat literally outside in the sitting area of the restaurant that is seen as not part of the restaurant so you won't get one of the items that would have come with your lunch bento if you ate inside the restaurant and that item is the miso soup. Ordered 3 lunch bentos - katsu would be a hard pass, pork piece that's fried until it's hard pieces of meat, the chicken teriyaki was edible where it wasn't charred until literal burnt peices of chicken, tempura was good but again thin peices of vegetables fried til crispy oblivion. Seems to me what's happening is to make prices "affordable" for lunch bento was roughly $16 they need to portion out the food to thinner smaller cuts/pieces. Service - non existent and slightly rude at least the woman that was encountered on June 20th during lunch time didn't even bother to call out our number or let us know our food was ready for pickup. As soon as I came back inside the restaurant she knew what was our order and proceeded to point at the table with our order packaged and ready. Odd part is we were just eating outside and we could hear her calling out to go orders and bringing orders out to other customers, but with our party that was non-existent and just a bit rude. When I asked what would be good to order for a kid for the lunch bento she didn't even acknowledge my question literally was silent. Honestly this establishment feels a bit like they don't want or care for families to patronize their business at least thats the feeling I get from my experience as we came as 2 families. Ambiance - can't comment as we decided to eat right outside in the community seating area to save the restaurant staff the hassle of cleaning up given our party had 4 kids from the age of 2-7. You'd think that would have been seen as a nice gesture from us, but no. If you've never ate here before there's nothing special about this place, unfortunately there's nothing I would recommend coming here for, not the food, not the ambience, and definitely not the service. read more

I would love to give them more than 3 stars but I can't. The fish in my wife's spicy tuna roll came out warm not even room temp warm. We had 2 other rolls both very plan. One of the rolls took 20+ mins. We were told it was coming 3 different times. Just let us know you forgot to put it in no big deal. They seemed like a really nice group of people working there. The one sushi chef kept rubbing is noise with his forearm. I never saw him wash his hands. Just gross not sure we will be back. The take out business was very busy. Seemed more important then the customers in the restaurant. Not sure if we will be back. I normally give places 2 -3 chances in case of an off night. I tried it and it was perfectly cooked - nice and flaky with good flavor. I tried the Spicy Rainbow Roll, Shogun Roll, and an eel roll (we asked for it, but I don't think it was on the menu) - all very good. Nothing particularly made the rolls stand out over other places we've visited, but the fish had great taste and texture. Back again - 5 years later. Not a part of town I frequent. In any case, after watching a movie we took the kids here for sushi and bento boxes and tempura. We had a wide array among us - salmon, spicy tuna, California roll, popcorn role, salmon lover and crunchy roll. Everything was good. And gone, quite quickly despite the generous portions! We had the mixed tempura - the batter could have been slightly lighter and a tad less greasy but the temperature it was served was SPOT ON. I'm weird - I like my food hot.
