Something has gone very wrong here. I have always loved the wasabi poke bowl. My husband and I both ordered it for delivery, but for some reason the app required that we pick an alternative to the ahi. We chose salmon, expecting salmon poke. Damn. I wish Pacific Catch would open a location in Los Angeles. This West Coast fish house serves fresh, healthy dishes using sustainable seafood. Their location on Chestnut Street is extremely tiny, with a handful of tables and bar seating. On a cold night, we could feel the chill of the night air, every time another delivery service opened the door (they do bustling business with pick up orders). Even though the location is small, the menu is fairly large - from poke and tacos to bowl and sandwiches, and much, much more. When a free appetizer of shelled edamame appeared on the table, I think I fell in love right there. (Yes, I am a sucker for free food.) No beer on tap, but they do have some local brews available in cans, along with wine and sake. Non-seafood lovers can partake in chicken or tofu as their protein. My daughter ordered the kid's chicken teriyaki and was quite happy. My husband's Grilled Salmon came on top of a bed of brown rice and quinoa, with roasted cauliflower, avocado, radish salad, greens, with a cilantro-pepita pesto and soy tahini drizzle. It was not only nutritious, but surprisingly tasty. My two taco platter was a win. Served with choice of salad or fries, each taco had a generous piece of fish. Even though I chose a salad over fries (and was regretting my decision because the fries looked delicious), the salad was much better than I expected, with edamame, tomatoes and daikon sprouts in a light miso dressing. I enjoyed both the Pacific Rockfish and the Grilled Salmon tacos and liked that they weren't overly loaded with toppings so that you could still taste the fish. Given how small this location is, it's no surprise that they were churning out orders for takeaway. There may be many fish in the sea, but Pacific Catch is a catch, with high quality food at prices that won't make you flinch. Came here for their delicious looking new Hawaiian menu, and whoops, they don't actually have it at this location Instead, we opted for two poke options on the menu, the Serrano Ahi, which is appetizer sized and really good, and the Japanese Wasabi Original Ahi Poke, which I didn't like as much. Born and raised in Hawaii, my poke expectations are HIGH. So having been told that Pacific Catch has good poke, I was very skeptical -- especially because the mainland does poke differently. However, I can tell you that I've easily found the best poke in the Bay Area at Pacific Catch! I ordered the poke chirashi bowl on GrubHub and it was not cheap. However, for fresh fish in San Francisco, I didn't expect anything less. I will say that even though it was a hefty price, I would definitely get this again for a special occasion. The fish is MARINATED (this is so rare in the Bay Area) and truly reminded me of home. Not to mention the freshness of the fish which is evident as soon as you open the box. My favorite of the three was the classic shoyu poke, but all three were delicious. It's also rare that you see hamachi being used a fish for poke, but it definitely added to the bowl.
