After I declined the surprise $4k in work I had a hunch something was wrong, so I recorded it. Turns out he had lured me down there to threaten me. This was before he threatened to sue me for slander, physically intimidate me, and then kick me out. I don't think he understands why you can't sue someone who is telling the truth. When that didn't work, he tried to attack my personal character; Apparently I, "look like a gamer". Lol, thanks Shawn, I do love video games. You look like a fraud. I definitely felt like I was a victim of fraud and intimidation, so I spoke with the police after. He said he had just had a baby, so maybe he was sleep deprived, but that's no excuse to be abusive. I have the documentation to show that Shawn violated California law when he put an item on my bill after I declined extra work, but they said he hadn't done enough to take it further, and I should just post a review and not go back. When you catch him in a lie he gets super nervous and rambles before retreating into his office. I saw him using scare tactics on another customer with the exact same phrases he used on me, so watch out for the lies. They can seem legit when the other mechanics gang up on you, but turns out, they are his sons... I gave him 2* because until this last experience, I was happy. I just wanted to know why the estimate made no sense (double charge, unnecessary repairs). Shawn Setterstrom, the owner is unstable and aggressive. He tried to use a schematic to scare me and was not happy to discover that I can read and he had proved himself wrong. It has since been 10 months, and 5000+ miles, and I have yet to have any problems with my mechatronics unit. I have a 2019 Audi S5 that i've been customizing a bit. I bought some Carbon Fiber side view mirror caps and dynamic mirror signal blinkers. I called around and surprisingly not many shops wanted to do such a quick/simple job. I guess they didn't think it was worth their time. I called Pacific German and was expecting them to tell me they wouldn't either or it would need to be scheduled weeks out. I spoke with Tyler and he said they could fit me in 2 days later and it would take an hour. I booked the appointment showed up day of and they had the parts installed in an hour. The cost was very reasonable and I could tell by the other vehicles there that these guys are all quality techs/mechanics. Took my car in to get the window looked at because it wouldn't open. They did a full diagnostic on the car when all we wanted them to do was look at repairing the window. They had my car for five days. Finally got a quote that was too expensive and was told that the battery needed to be replaced because it was bad and the cord was corroded. When we first dropped off the car, they said any labor costs would be applied to the $150 diagnostic fee. After we got the bill for over $500, they did credit the $65 labor cost after we asked about it. When we looked at the door, we noticed that a screw was missing and the ground wire was cut really short which made it difficult to fix. Unfortunately, our experience was not good. read more

I'm so glad I chose to go here! I recently brought in two 957 Cayennes to get some aftermarket suspension parts installed as well as wheels/tires mounted and balanced. Huge shoutout to Tyler, Alfie and the team at Pacific German for doing an amazing job getting both dialed in perfectly. I appreciate all of their attention to detail, knowing the vehicles were properly taken care of in all aspects. Before anything starts, their quick inspection goes through and makes sure the vehicle is a good candidate to continue on with the installation. It's super helpful and reassuring seeing the pictures they provide along side descriptions of current/rising issues that they noticed during the inspection. Having that, whether you go through with the recommended services or not, is very useful with creating a baseline or just acknowledging things that can be done as preventative maintenance before any issues later become even worse. I personally went through with all recommended services as they were definitely needed and glad were brought to my attention because nobody likes a janky non-cared for euro lol. There was never a moment I felt unsure or uneasy with what they were doing, they were happy to answer any questions I had as well as give tips/advice for any future references. In all, my experience at pacific german was very positive. In terms of communication, no other auto shop in orange county was more professional, and quick in terms of responses to emails and phone calls. I myself had a ton of indecisiveness and hesitancy for what wheels I wanted on my car, but they were quick to answer any questions I had! They also installed a revo cold air intake onto my car. The one issue was that they were missing a part for the original one I ordered, even though the actual box was in stock. They gave me the option to pay for a more expensive intake "Revo Carbon Series" or wait for the other one to arrive, which would have taken a few weeks. I ended up just going with the nicer intake system even though it was a few hundred dollars more . They did however carry over the discount I had so I saved a bit more money due to it being a percentage discount. Besides this minor hiccup everything else was great. Visually, the quality of work within the engine bay looks incredible! The intake also sounds great and I have noticed a bit of a performance increase as my wheels are now much lighter as well! In all I am very satisfied with how my car turned out and would recommend Pacific German to anyone in the area looking for work on their vehicle! read more

I never thought I'd ever give this shop a 1 star review but man was I wrong. Took my car to get a Stage 2 Revo Tune. Exchanged emails back and forth with Tyler the "performance director and master technician" at Pacific German. Got my car tuned, was really happy with the work. It was quite a drive for me given I live in Santa Barbara but after seeing the amazing reviews I said it was worth the drive. Months go by and I'm interested in getting a CTS Performance Cold Air Intake from Tyler at Pacific German. I inquired about 3 months ago and got quoted $X amount. Then Covid-19 happened and I was out of work and adjusting to the new world we live in. Just recently I inquired about it again and asked Tyler if he can do a little better on the pricing because of Covid-19 (times are definitely tough). He said he will double check pricing and get back to me. He got back to me the next day and said he cannot go any lower. THIS IMPLIES THAT HIS INITIAL QUOTE OR $X IS STILL STANDING. So I said okay thats fine I'll take it. The next day he gets back to me and says oh it's gonna be $X more because the part is not on sale anymore? WOW, I spend over $1k at the shop, and try to purchase another item from them and I have to get the run around from Tyler telling me "currency rates change from Canada".. really Tyler ? That's pathetic. Way to lose a happy content customer, and to say I was going to refer my buddies who all have performance Audi's and VW's. For the record, I did try and explain to Tyler why I was upset and all I got from him was, "good luck on your adventures." UPDATED: So I got a voicemail from Tyler saying he does not know why I left him a bad review. I thought I was pretty thorough with my review but still, I took about 20 minutes out of my day to explain to him that I'm not upset or writing a 1-Star Review because the price is $16 more as Shawn the business owner says, but because of the principle. After spending 20 minutes on the phone explaining why I am unhappy, I got the phone hung up on me. I called back, spoke to a receptionist and asked to speak with the shop owner, SHAWN. Hours go by, I get no call back but I get a response to my review. Thanks for your reply Shawn but I'm sorry you think that I'm upset over $16.. LOL. The fact that you think I wrote a 1 star review because the price is $16 more is ridiculous. I guess you don't know the facts, because if you did, you would realize that the principle is what's in question here. $16 is just a #, I told Tyler that too, whether it's $1 more or $100 more, the principle is that you stick to your word. I don't know how to start when reviewing this place. But let's first get started on what I got done here. I have a 2008 Audi TT MK2 3.2L and It needed its 65,000 mile service. I love my car and I have been taking it to the dealer every check up because the previous owner paid for the Audi Care. This shop is pretty much the dealer but with cheaper prices and better service. I took it in, after making a appointment and came out in 1 1/2 hours. Within the 1 1/2 hours, they inspected the car, changed the oil, added a ECU performance upgrade, and removed a code for my spoiler. I could have been more happy. They are expects and they know what they are doing. My second experience here was different. I had my headlight upgrade to the TT RS version and I brought them here to get coded. Everything was done within 1 hour and I was good to go. Overall thoughts: Would I do basic things here? Probably not, because I live kind of far away. But would I do thing that will be done right the first time? Yes, they are experts in Audi and I love their mindset. If I ever need a upgrade such as adding turbos or getting new coilovers into my car, I would call Pacific German first. read more

After writing a good review once before about this company. Sadly I can't believe I'm writing this now... I went to have my oil change done about 3-4 months ago, and the price was above $500. I questioned the price and asked the owner and he wouldn't give me straight answer. I had to ask another employee why the price was increased and I finally got a straight answer. They basically wanted to up charge me on items I didn't ok. Even though they have you sign a paper to ok the charges sad that the owner couldn't explain why.... So thankfully the employee was able to fix the charges and I only paid for an oil change. Today I took my vehicle back in for another oil change. The owner was so grumpy and rude to me and had an attitude. He printed out what my costs would be and this time it was over $300. I was like WHAT. I again asked why is this so high? And again he couldn't explain to me. He looked at his computer looking for an answer. Then a few minutes later after I went to sit down and wait. Says it's too much work to do my type of car so they have to charge more labor. I quickly texted a few people I know in the Porsche industry, and they all said get the car out of there. So I kindly said I'd like my car back. He rudely got my car and as I'm walking up to my car he had to make another rude comment how I went somewhere else to get my brakes done and maybe I could go back to that cheap place to get my oil done! Seriously who talks like this.., this is the owner. I actually had my brakes done at Porsche. For me customer service is huge and being kind and respectful doesn't take much. I would have gladly paid these prices if the owner knew how to be a gentleman and be kind. But from my last two times there of having to deal with shadiness of trying to up charge me and bad behavior I'm done. I'll never return. Good luck to anyone who goes here. I was referred to this place by a friend who has some minor work done on his BMW. I have an Audi S4 / B7 and needed some front bushings replaced. They have an online quote system that you can fill out and they'll shoot you back an estimate later in the day. I really liked that since no one else seems to do that. This tells me they're organized and uniform in their pricing. The work was done within the quoted time, I received a text message notifying me it was ready, and the price was exactly as quoted. They even have a yelp check-in discount that I got too. The only suggestion for improvement I could offer is better phone manners training. There's an older guy who sometimes answers the phone and unless you're used to dealing with wrenches he can easily rub you the wrong way with his blunt and rough approach. I can only assume he doesn't normally answer the phone so I'm not holding it against them. Just a suggestion in case they pay attention to their reviews. In the end, if you have an Audi and are looking for a decent place to get your service work done outside of the dealer I would recommend this place. Its too early to tell how my car is running after the major repairs to my vehicle. But during a worldwide pandemic, is it too much to ask that the staff working on my vehicle and driving it to me upon completion, wear a mask!? With small children and a heart condition, I would of felt much more comfortable with that. Instead, when they brought my car back to me, the tech hopped out and handed me the keys with no mask or gloves, and no social distancing. If he was hypothetically sick, the interior of my vehicle would be full of his germs and my family and I could possibly have gotten very sick. Again, its too early to tell so I am hoping the lysol I had to clean it with after pick up was enough protection against the virus. I also think that when a customer is giving his business and spends around 2k, it'd be a nice touch to have the vehicle washed at the time of pickup. Just a suggestion. I've had vehicles have been worked on at other places, it was also delivered back to me detailed! I'm not saying I expected a detail, but a simple exterior car wash would of made the handoff look a lot better. I know you aren't a car wash so I am no docking you for not giving a car wash. Again, just a suggestion. As for the actual work done, again too early to tell. So far so good, and no complaints yet. Communication is extremely important to me. Initially, they said they would contact me about my vehicle the next day after we dropped it off. Didn't hear back the next day., or the day after that. I eventually called and once we were in contact, they gave me updates and sent me a nice breakdown via email of what work needed to be done. In summary, the three star review is because I am very annoyed about your staff "NOT wearing a mask" upon delivery of my vehicle. It's just too risky and I would of appreciated that small but important gesture. And quicker communication. I will write a second review or adjust this one after I have some time to experience my vehicle now that the repairs have been made. read more

Went here (because of the great reviews) for our old 2006 Jetta. I'd read reviews about how in-the-loop they kept customers with emails of photos, etc. A lot of work was needed on our old car but we didn't hear from them until I called them 5 d later. Everything was supposedly fixed except when I got home, the air conditioner was still not working. At first I was pretty pissed, but after discussing with Shawn, he made it right. I'm not saying they're perfect but I believe they are committed to customer satisfaction. He followed up to make sure the A/C was working OK. There are some pretty high-end cars in their shop so I thought I was getting the bum's rush initially but I don't think that's the case. And I'm sure because of that Shawn's got some significant a**hole customers to deal with so a brusque manner may be called for. read more

I brought my 911 turbo S in for oil change and then a recommended break service. After the service was completed the breaks immediately started to squeak so the car was brought back. After they inspected the car and located the squeak, I was told there is nothing they can do. They said it was a nuisance problem and asked if I wanted a quote for new breaks. Really!! The car has 8k miles and the breaks are fine. The car never had this issue until the break service was completed. That was the first and last time I will bring my car there. The shop seems to do decent work, and Tyler at the front desk is a good kid, but whatever you do, stay away from the owner. I filled out a minor complaint in their review about work they did, and he came at me in writing in a bizarre tirade of defensiveness, dismissiveness, and very weird passive-aggressive bullshit. He accused me of self-medicating, and included this gem in a response to me: "Stop the harassment get a hobby or therapy or something. Get the help you need before its too late and you hurt yourself." Seriously?? This is how you respond to a customer? There was zero harassment from me, but you can bet that after a couple of futile attempts at reason, I called him a few choice words. It was clear there was no reasoning with him. Took my MK7 Golf R to Pacific German completely stock and and drove it back home with REVO Stage 3 IS38ETR, all I can say is driving this car,or should I say BEAST, back from the shop was a true pleasure and total surprise. With that being said sometimes things happen for a reason I originally was going with one plan with a different tuning company and thankfully that didn't happen, I strongly believe things happen for a reason and that bad experience allowed me to be able to continue my research and find Pacific German. With their technology, State of the art facility and amazing quality of work they delivered me a Beast. Many times we wonder who is going to work on our car specially if you are a very meticulous owner in regards to how you treat your vehicle and how you care for it. A main concern I always had with shops is would they scratch it? would it be damaged?would the parts be installed correctly and by a certified technician not just a kid enthusiast? Mind you I made an appointment on Thursday to bring it in on Saturday and they had no problem accommodating my last minute request not to mention they're open on Saturday's which is great. Also the price was more than fair, so I was happy. Once they completed the service they called to inform me my front bushings were toast. I was informed they could fix it but the car wouldn't be ready until Monday. When I told them I'd have to bring the car back since I need to drive it to work, Shawn went out of his way to get the parts and make sure it got done the same day. How's that for service? Also having a VF engineering supercharged R8 in the shop didn't hurt either.
