My experience at Pacific Lighthouse was a disappointment. After learning about this place through mutual friends that held wedding receptions here, I came here with a good impression. Came here on a Sunday morning. Doors open at 10am. Upon coming inside, I was greeted by a stale odor reminiscent of a dirty kitchen. The smell didn't matter because I was here for the food. We ordered 8 medium-large size items, and one of them (steamed beef balls) never came. That's okay because by the time we tried 3 items or so, we didn't like the taste of everything we've tried so far. The chicken feet were way too salty. The rice noodles were cold. The egg custard buns stuck to the wrapping paper and the yolk inside fell out when pulling the bun out. Expensive prices. Below average food. Don't think this teahouse will be a place I frequent for Dimsum in the east bay. read more

Terrible! The only good thing about this place was the ok parking and the ok view of docked boats! Service is horrible! Hosts are rude and ignore you. No waiters with carts walking around like traditional dim sum spots. They have a menu with a pencil left on the table for you to pick what you want and how many you want. No drinks no other sides! Such a weird way to order dim sum! And it took forever to take our order! Even longer for drinks! That they didn't get right also! The food was below good! Everything tastes weird! EVERYTHING! Things were gooey, under cooked, sticky, sloppy, or just tasted off! Even the tea was bad! Since we couldn't just get items as they came around to sample we were stuck with a lot of left overs that nobody wanted to finish! And we all cringed at who would take them home! Pretty happy that they offer outdoors seating for dimsum. It's a nice view by the water. I took my family here for lunch and were seated pretty quickly. The staff seem to be doing a good job keeping the area clean and the tables 6 feets apart. Compare to pre-Covid, it's definitely a difference vibe. Since the weather is nice, it feel chill and calm by the water while having a good lunch. The amount of dimsum selection they offer was great, only a few items were cross off the menu. Everything I ordered taste good, especially the deep fried pork puff and shrimp dumplings. While we were eating, the owner came to check up on all the customers to make sure they are having a good experience. I can definitely understand the struggle to keep a restaurant open during a pandemic. At the end of the day, I am just glad that there's a decent place open to serve my dimsum crave. read more

Came here on a second try for the dinner service, Still the environment is great, on a Tuesday night, it is not busy, so you would have better service. Just adverse to the norm, yes, it's pretty slow; however, scrap of food still left on the plate set and had to hunt down for service. We had a reasonable meal, but quite disappointing as we were planning to book the restaurant for a business event. They did not seem or even try to impress us for the business. Summing up the dinner experience --- The walnut shrimp was drowning with mayo, you literally have to wipe off the excess mayo, walnut was flat. The stirred fried vegetable had tons of salt, it tasted as it was soaked in salt bath. The beef stew was somewhat ok, taste was good, and required some good teeth work. The fried fish flounder turned into an overly battered tempura fish with bone-in. The Peking duck was the only decent dish with lightly crisp skin and the duck was not fatty. Excellent crazy busy dim sum place with nice views and good service. Our tea pot was constantly filled and the workers were prompt for our requests. The roasted pork was delicious with their plum sauce. The marinated baby octopus were good with the seaweed salad. They use fish eggs on top of their dumplings that others don't do. A good sized dim sum place located right on the water in Alameda located next to the Oakland Yacht club. Plenty of parking. Got there around noon and they were able to seat us right away. No waiting. They do the push carts and they also have the paper menu to mark your order on. We had the scallop dumplings, sesame bun, french pork bun, siu mai, shrimp noodle roll, and a jong chae. I liked everything. The place wasnt too noisy so it was easy to have a conversation. I would come back again and if you get a table by the windows, the views are great. read more

Very disappointed in the management of this restaurant for "padding" our bill. Our family was taken advantage of. Made reservations for five tables for a family luncheon after a memorial service. I should have known our experience was going to be bad when management tried to push us to order from the pre-set "funeral" menu. It was uninspired and overpriced. I wanted family to order dimsum a la carte, which they enjoy most. Manager insists that dimsum shouldn't be eaten for a funeral luncheon. Fast forward to the luncheon, the first ding was that we were not given tables in the main dining as promised. As our guests sit down, plates of food were placed on the tables by servers, doubles of items-the premium and more costly dishes. I was baffled as to why these dishes of food was placed on our tables and asked management to stop this. Each table had placed a few orders of their favorites and at this point, management took it upon themselves to double these orders, obviously, because the platters were huge. I see more premium plates about to be placed on tables and I again told the manager NO! How many times must I say this? Guests had to also turn away dishes being placed on their tables. These forced upon dishes of food were also cold and soggy. Food situation was ridiculous and we were not able to enjoy our favorite dishes because so much other food was forced upon us. Shame, shame on this restaurant and it's management. Will never patronize this place again. SMH. The worst. Apparently, this restaurant is notorious for their shady tactics. read more

My dad really didn't want to wait in lines for dim sum on July 4th so we came here. In hindsight and advice for anyone looking to come here, JUST GO WAIT IN LINE SOMEWHERE ELSE. Food: We didn't even bother to order dim sum because my dad overheard the table on our right saying that their chicken feet smelled off and the table on our left saying their shrimp dumplings tasted sour. Their dim sum is likely made days ahead, left in the fridge for too long and then reheated for customers. So my dad went ahead and ordered the food that would be freshly cooked, like the stir fried noodle dishes, a porridge. Cleanliness: The food that we did order were okay, but I was too paranoid about sanitary. Trust me, I've been going to dim sum all my life and I do not expect anything to be sparkling clean. My bowl, tea cup and spoon all had things on there that I could wipe off with my napkin. I wiped it all with damp napkin and hot tea, and still felt icky about it afterwards. Service: They are SO SLOW and not attentive to your needs at all. We had a pot of tea that was too dark from steeping too long or just too much tea? This is not uncommon, so we just asked for a separate additional pot of hot water. The waiter took our pot of tea, left for 15+ minutes and we had to follow up with another waiter for our tea and water. When they did come back, they only came back with a pot of hot water. They didn't return our original pot of tea. You mark down what you want on a menu to order here, so if you need additional service here outside of when they seat you and take your menu for ordering, waiters are so hard to flag down if you need anything else (including when I just wanted to pay my tab). read more

I think I just found a new go-to spot for dim sum! Spacious waiting room area, plenty of tables and rooms inside, and ample parking spots available. Over the weekend, this place gets busy! I mean, the carts and trays are coming non-stop. Actually, there was a period where they all came with dim sum dishes, then stopped coming, then more lunch dishes, and stopped. I really like how they have both entrees and dim sum dishes going around instead of just dim sum dishes. After trying multiple dishes, I'm a big fan of Pacific Lighthouse! They didn't skimp on the shrimp in the har gow. The bean curd fried shrimp was crispier than most places. The 3 layered bean dessert was something I've never seen before. On the downside, the chicken feet wasn't very flavorful. The stuffed eggplant was an XL size and didn't come in smaller portions. It was great and all but I wouldn't order it again if I came with a small party. Biggest disappointment was the steamed bean curd as the stuffing was too mushy and soggy. Came here with another couple off of a recommendation for dim sum and we really enjoyed our experience here. We ordered about 8 different dishes ranging from duck feet to sticky rice in lotus wrap to shrimp shumai to rice paper wrapped pork. Everything came out quickly (~10-15 minutes) and servers were prompt. Price was solid and as expected for the Bay Area along with normal dim sum prices. I will however warn that getting service initially to put your order in and getting your check is rather busy and may take a while. And this was on a Tuesday lunch. I can't imagine how busy it would be on a weekend. But overall, we will come back fro dim sum! read more

Came here for a memorial reception during the time of COVID, so the restaurant set up tables outside for us and the view was beautiful. While it was a sad occasion, the food was delicious. As with most, if not all Chinese restaurants, the service was about average, taking a bit of extra effort and it took multiple asks to get water. They started to take away some plates of food before our table had a chance to finish or decide whether or not we wanted to pack anything to take home. Mediocre service aside, I would like to come back to try other dishes and enjoy the view again, but just for not such a somber occasion. We don't frequent Alameda, so this was a nice little gem that was tucked away right by the water and boats that we were happy to discover. read more

My boss is a local here so he decided to take me to his go to places. Here was our experience on a late Saturday morning. AMBIANCE: Parking: Relatively small plaza as especially since it's general to the port. Seating: Plenty of seating, probably for about 80 people, mainly group setup and all inside. The tables are pretty fancy and it's well lit. I really enjoy the view of the boats and ocean outside. There's Chinese music in the background which is pretty soothing. Good for large parties, family meals, or a simple catch up. FOOD: (Top 3) Fried Chicken (A-OK) A good amount and simple savory flavors. Chicken was well cooked and juicy. Honey Walnut Shrimp (A-OK) I feel like you can never go wrong with honey walnut. The shrimp is delicious, well cooked and crunchy. There was a good amount of mayo on it too. Roasted Pork (Recommend) Same to this. If it's well seasoned and cooked at the right temperature then you get the rich, juicy, flavor with a nice crunch on the top. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Good. 3.5 stars. The hubby and I would never just come here if we are craving dim sum. When you are craving dim sum you go somewhere cheaper, probably a bit grimmier. But if you have out of town guests - this is a go to spot for us. The food is decent (but watch out ... the food cart ladies will tell you everything is delicious and pretty much put it on your table unless you adamantly refuse). The view is very nice of the Alameda Yacht club and some of the best you'll get at a dim sum place. We have come here a few times before the Pandemic for the dimsum. It's a typical dimsum place. Food is alright with good selection. Price was a bit on the high side, but not outrageous. Service was typically hit or miss. Generally, the terrific view makes up for it. We recently visited again now that the Pandemic has calmed down. It's just our family like all the other times; so the same number of people (7) and in fact the same people. We ordered similar amount of food as the other times. This time, however, the bill came out more than twice what it used to cost us. Yes, Pandemic, inflation, etc. But more than 100% higher???!! This is not inflation. This is profiteering under the guise of inflation, and it adds to the economic problem we are already under. Now that I know their shenanigan, our family is never coming back again. I went here last weekend for a wedding reception. There's plenty of parking in the lot by a beautiful marina. I really like the space inside...it was a bright white, well lit room with skylights. The staff was very accommodating. However, there was a wedding right next-door separated by a curtain. It was so loud that I could not concentrate in the room I was in. I could clearly hear the music next door. Just a tip for the staff that the bathrooms could have been restocked better throughout the night. What a prime location for a dim sum spot out in Alameda. It's right on the water so the views are lovely. The restaurant is huge but fills up pretty quick. We met some people here on a weekday for some dim sum. They've got all the basics plus some fancier items. The one item that stood out the most was something that I've hated since I was a kid...the pork bun. Yes, I hate pork buns. ...but I was told they were good here so I took a portion of one. It's some sort of French style baked pork bun with onions baked into the dough. I'll admit...it was tasty and I'd recommend for peeps who love them. We ordered some additional specialty items such as conch chow fun and what not. Pretty standard for most dim sum spots out there but didn't really blow my mind. Service was surprisingly above average and quite efficient. Dim sum was served piping hot. If you're out in the East Bay, I'd recommend this spot for a get together. Met a friend for dim sum on Alameda Island at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant. Located in the Marina Village, it's a large Cantonese seafood house. Upon entering I saw some familiar faces working there, one of the managers had worked at different dim sum restaurants in the Tri-Valley. The crowd and the food was just as if you were eating at an old Oakland Chinatown Cantonese seafood restaurant but with a nicer setting. There are large windows over looking the Oakland Yacht Club. You order off a check list menu and the food comes out pretty fast. As far food size of Siu Mai and Ha Gows were huge just like Chinatown. The quality and the service similar too. The ambiance at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant is good with the high ceilings and openness. The dim sum and easy free parking is good enough reason to go through the tunnel as another option to Oakland Chinatown. read more

The service here is horrible. We were waiting for the last two items of our order for at least an hour. When we were tired of waiting, we asked the waitress to cancel the order. She said no, and she'll bring those two items out. So...the food was already ready but they just decided not t bring it out?? We insisted to cancel the order and she said "Fine, fine, I'll cancel it." Another waitress came by about 5 minutes later with our dishes, and we told her the other waitress cancelled it, so she left. The original waitress came back with the food and said basically too bad, here's the food." When we asked for the check, we asked the waitress to take off the fried egg puffs because they were drenched in oil. There was so much oil that the plate had a puddle of oil! We only ate one piece when we noticed how bad they were, but she would not take it off the check. Normal restaurants would not charge you if you are not satisfied with a dish. I was also physically pushed aside by one of the managers. I think they were managers because their outfits were not part of the uniforms the waiters were wearing. I was waiting to pay the bill, and he pushed me without even saying sorry, or acknowledging the fact. Besides the horrible service, the food was sub-par. There are some mediocre items, some really bad items, and only one good item I liked. I liked the barbecue pork pineapple buns. I would not come here again. read more

The decor looks like something out of the 80's with the sparky ceilings and a neon light fixture rimming part of the ceiling; however, there is a nice view of the harbour with a lot of sailboats docked. Parking is easy and free which is a plus in Alameda where most of its restaurants are on very busy streets. It is a little off the beaten path and difficult to find especially in the dark. There is a varied food selection including all the usual dim sum suspects, shrimp dumplings, bbq pork buns, and egg tarts. I like the jook which is tasty and healthy as well as a good value for the amount you get. Service is not the best. There are items that do not come by on carts that you need to ask for if you can flag someone down which is not easy on weekends and it is busy. There were a couple of times today we put in orders for food that never came and we gave up waiting for it. Given the nearby choices, I think this is one of the better dim sum restaurants available. I've been back to Pacific Lighthouse a few times since my initial review and I'm upgrading my initial review and it's all because I just discovered their kind of secret Chinese menu. Yep, it's only written in Chinese and if wasn't for the "captain" (manager) telling me what it is, then I would have never known since I don't read Chinese. Only during Weekday lunch, they have a deal for Lobster noodles, 2 small dim sum, 2 medium dim sum, 1 large dim sum, and 1 kitchen item for $50. I actually think it actually comes with one more item, but i'm not sure. It's an incredible value and makes for an awesome spread. I do want to note that my mom was the owners notary years ago and he saw us coming in on our last visit so we kind of got a little VIP treatment. But I can say without hesitation that the dim sum and value was on point. I can't emphasize enough though, the special menu is only for Weekday dim sum. So, no dinner during anytime of the week and not during weekends. The managers, the ones who are dresses in suits, can speak english well enough and so they'll be able to translate the "secret" menu for you. Anyway, check out my pictures to see what we got for $50 before tax/tip and I'm pretty sure everyone is going to start ordering, especially for those with 3+ people eating. But, even with the 5 star review, I still have to suggest people avoid coming during their most busiest times. We came during New Years Day and they were at maximum capacity and the food turned out below their normal standard. The managers were trying hard, but nothing was working out that day. I eventually found it easier to walk to the carts to get food. They had a couple of stand out employees, but it wasn't their best and I probably go back during such peak times. This new restaurant in Alameda has become a popular spot for Dim Sum. With million dollar views of the Oakland Estuary, a large seating area, and a new clean look. What about the food? Everything we ordered was decent. (Look at photos below) Nothing stood out as mind blowing good but everything was typical dim sum. We ordered a large amount of items which totaled around $150 not including tip. Service was attentive. Restrooms were clean. This is more of a 3 1/2 star but am bumping it up to 4 because we did get surprisingly good service. After reading the Yelp reviews of the poor service and mediocre food, I was so skeptical about trying it when my cousin and my mom wanted to give it a shot for dim sum. However, I ended up being pleasantly surprised with the service as they were very attentive and very apologetic when things were delayed. Most items you order from the menu and they will make it in the kitchen and bring it out to your table, so for dim sum, there were limited cart service with a few items that were either maybe not on the menu or desserts. Pros: 1. They give you 2 pots, 1 tea and 1 hot water so you don't have to wait for them to refill your tea, a smart idea especially if they happen to be busy and hard to flag someone down. They also did a great job in refilling our hot water regularly. 2. The people bringing the food and had the carts had "guards/shields" by their mouths so you don't have to worry about anything accidentally getting on the food as they speak to you. 3. They cross out the item that you order and stamp your card with S, M, L, K, etc. when your food is served to you vs. already being on your bill based on what you notated on their menu. This prevents you from being overcharged if they missed giving you a dish which they had with us. By that time, we were so full, we didn't need that 18th item. Cons: 1. It is on the pricier side with some items not worth the higher price. The special shrimp dumpling might have been a bit larger but not necessarily "special" enough for the higher price. 2. They do try to upsell you to the "specials". Hits: Scallop dumplings - wish this came with an order of 4 vs. 3 though since most dumplings came with 4 per order. Fried taro puff - Was better than ones I have had elsewhere as the filling was on point. Jelly fish with sliced pigs feet - something I normally don't see during dim sum Misses: Ginger tripe - I was surprise I didn't like this one more since I normally love tripe but the jalapenos threw me off. Pan fried turnip cake - Mediocre compared to other places which is surprising for a staple Panda bun - had no panda (see pic) - it would've been nice if they told us it wasn't available that day vs. serving us plain custard buns and stamping our card but when we asked one of the guys in the black jackets (maybe supervisor or manager) when he checked on us, he graciously took it off our bill and comp'd us the plain buns. All else is good but doesn't stand out. Overall, we enjoyed the lunch and although we were seated away from the view, it does have a nice view of the boats and the Oakland skyline. The décor is elegant so seemed like it would be nice for a banquet. A few things to note that may or may not have resulted in our experience vs. others. We went on a weekday vs a weekend which may be why the service was more attentive as they weren't overwhelmed. Wanted to try this relatively new dim sum place in A-town. A couple of friends and I came on weekday for lunch. Walked right in and got a table with a great view of the Oakland Yacht harbor, Pacific Lighthouse is roomy and bright. It's one of those order-off-the sheet dim sum places. You mark what you want and quantity and they bring it to you. Funny thing is, they also have ladies bringing around dishes. They try to leave it one the table so you just have to assertively say "no". The dim sum was actually very good. The sui mai large and flavorful and not greasy, Had an assortment of things - all were very good. One standout was the french cha sui bao - excellent. We also ordered some noodles. The portion was very large and tasty. Service is pretty typical of a Chinese restaurant. Someone always came when we asked for water, soy sauce, etc. Positives: Good dim sum with some unique dishes., great view, so-so service. Negatives: medium-to-high prices and the upsell (suggesting expensive dishes and trying to leave extra dishes on your table) is a turn-off. 3.5* but I'll round up because the food was good. read more

Never again. My mom wanted to come here for dim sum on Labor Day. We were seated right away. We've been here for 1.5 hours and only received half our order. We ended up canceling some of our food because we were tired of waiting. Food is alright. Not worth the wait. I feel bad because I'm sure they are understaffed but nope!!! read more

Very friendly staff talked to us and also gave us a treat of egg tart! Each dish was super fresh and tasty! I especially loved their fried garlic! We did a takeout and had a nice picnic over this beautiful scenery. Highly recommend going for the deliciousness! I also plan to come back for dim sum! read more

I have really experienced better dimsum in the bay area. This is such a nice location but it is a bummer that the service here is awful. Came here for dimsum on a Monday. It was Labor Day and I understand it is a holiday and everyone wants to try this place. I can deal with the wait, but after this place just seem so unorganized. Arrived around 12noon. Table for 4. Got a number and was told 15-20 mins, so we thought wow, that is not bad. Let's wait. Fast forward 45 mins later. Finally got seated. As soon as we sat down, we gave them our order. You have to select your items because there are no carts making their rounds; except for a few ladies with random room temp items (not the dumplings, etc that you would expect). Sat down 12:45pm. First dish came out at 1:15pm (30 mins later). Ordered: 1 - Siu Mai (4 baskets bec that's my son's fave) 2 - Har Gow (House Special Shrimp Dumpling) 3 - Crispy Roasted Pork Belly 4 - Steamed sweet egg yolk bun 5 - Beef Chow fun, dry 6 - #40 - Steamed rice noodle with dace fish 7 - Steamed Fish Balls 8 - Steamed Shanghai dumpling 9 - Chinese Donut wrapped in Rice Noodle Their siu mai was very good. Plump/large shrimp + not fatty pork for filling. Har gow was also good. We also enjoyed the pork belly. Skin was crispy but the meat was slightly on the tough side. Very slightly. It was not bad. Served with hoisin. The steamed egg yolk bun was quite good too; the yolk was not solid. It was slightly runny which is how we like it - this is one of those dishes you should eat right away so that stuff does not harden/solidify--ha! The beef chow if fun was also very good. Not super oily, as most places make them, and the noodles were not stuck together. This was a bust: rice noodles with dace - the noodles had no flavor. The black bean/dace look like it came from the can. You know, that oval can with the fish label. Yes, that. Fish balls - they said they ran out so took that off our order. We eventually cancelled the Shanghai Dumplings and Chinese Donut with Rice Noodle because it was taking forever. Maybe it was a good thing the food came out slow. We were full by then anyway. Tea, $1.20 per person, so drink up. Overall: I probably would not come back for a while, until they iron out their kinks. The reason why the wait was long is because the kitchen cannot keep up. It's too bad since this is a nice place. Parking is limited esp on busy days. ALSO... one man in the black jackets who usually seats the customers was annoying me. There was ample space behind my seat, but EVERY TIME he walked by, he'd hit my purse and would apologize. Yes apology accepted. But do not do it again, like 10 times again. ONE MORE THING. While we were walking on towards our table, another lady in the black jacket was too busy ordering the waiters around, pointing to this table that table that she did not see us walking, and literally punched me on my side, as she was talking to the servers. Dim sum restaurant located by the Alameda Harbor overlooking the marina. This is a great view location with plenty of parking, which is why it got the 3rd star. However, the quality and taste of the food is not as good as the other dim sum restaurants in the Bay Area. When we arrived, half the restaurant was empty so there were plenty of available tables to choose from. The tea tasted a little funny, not sure if it was the tea leaves or the water used to brew the tea. The food was satisfactory but not as good as peony in oakland Chinatown. The best part about the restaurant was its view of boats in the marina. Great sunny atmosphere for lunch. read more
