WHEN: Sat @12pm TLDR: Service is great, so is the food. Never a wait. My favorite local Dim Sum spot. I had my sis come early to help reserve a table for our party of 10 since Dim Sum places tend to be busy and there can be a wait, but to our surprise, there was a good amount of open tables! Parking was a bit tricky though even though they have their own lot, which was like 95% packed by the time we got there. It was okay there we just parked on the street right as your enter/exit the. Lot. Not that far. I've been here twice before and absolutely enjoyed it, so I was excited to bring my family here. Everything here was good except for the SOUP DUMPLINGS (Xiao Long Bao), which was hardly soupy. Perhaps they were punctured during the steaming? But everything else was good. So the set up is there are 2 ways you can get food: 1. Fill out a form and hand it to your server. 2. Accept the food that other servers would come around with (mostly no carts) the way traditional dim sum is served. My only slight complaint is that this is where it gets confusing because most servers do not speak/understand English well. So when one of them comes by with dishes that I've already placed an order of, I thought it was the food I had ordered from the form. So additional dishes would be added to the bill without realizing. So here's a tip: Designate one person who filled out the form to order and have them sit on the outside where the servers would approach to help keep track of what is expected to come, and which is obviously add-ones. Anyway, food was great and I appreciate how the CUSTARD PINEAPPLE BUNS had a generous amount of filling. Other highlights were the PORTUGUESE EGG TARTS, CHICKEN FEET, BEEF RICE ROLLS. The thing other thing about the Xiao Long Bao was when we asked how many are in one order, they told us 4. So that helped us determined how many sets to order. But turns out there are 5 so we ordered too many, which ended up also not being good. It seems this place is hit or miss for most people Know, but so far it's been a hit for me, except for the soup dumplings haha. I'm still going to rec this place and continue to come back. Came here for a large birthday dinner last night and everyone was happy with the food and the view! We had one of the standard banquet menus and they were very generous with the portions. I believe the banquet menu is supposed to serve 10 - we had 9 hungry adults at our table and everyone was very full by the end of dinner and there was still a lot of leftovers to take home. A couple of my favorites from the menu - Guilin Deep Fried Shrimp Ball (super yummy), Braised Whole Abalone With Shitake Mushrooms (always a favorite and the flavor was good!), Smoked Sea Bass (they were very generous with the portions on this one), and Sun Dried Scallop Egg White Fried Rice (also very generous with the portions)! The food came out pretty quickly. I see a lot of reviews saying the service is terrible but the times I've been here, we've had no issues. The waiters have been friendly and responsive! I have been coming here with my wife and daughter about 3 times. Everything seems to be ok place for Dim Sum. Yesterday which's a Monday decided to bring my brother and best friend to have Dim Sum. The old lady was trying to up sales some items that we couldn't understand. The service weren't great. Our bill comes out to be about $300. Paid with card. And I decided to give $40 tips in cash. And the old lady is asking for more tips at the table in front of my friend and brother. I was like wtf? What kind of service is this? If you are money hungry then this is not a place for you. My new go to place for dim sum. Because the location is a bit off the beaten path, people tend to forget it's there, but this is a hidden gem. The Sugar puff chinese donuts (pictured) alone are worth the trip there. The donuts are made to order, so they come out hot sprinkled with sugar and they are crispy on the outside and kind of custardy on the inside. Sooo yummy. The dim sum is good as well and comes out fairly quick and piping hot. The prices I would say are comparable to other dim sum places, but the difference is you get a better atmosphere here with a view of the water and easy parking. 3.5 stars Pacific Lighthouse occupies a waterfront in Alameda overlooking downtown Oakland, and the restaurant offers Cantonese cooking in a dated dining room. My experience was a ten-course Cantonese banquet, and we started with cold appetizers of seaweed salad, char siu, roast pork, and vegetarian goose. Next came a viscous shredded chicken soup; fried shrimp balls with sweet and sour sauce; stir-fried scallops with celery and pea pods; abalone, shiitake mushrooms, and Chinese mustard greens; roast duck with lotus leaf buns, scallions, and hoisin; and a whole lobster chopped and stir-fried with seafood sauce. My favorite course was the luxurious honey-glazed sea bass, an absolutely gigantic fillet of fatty, decadent, flaky bass with a red, caramelized exterior, served with mayonnaise on the side for dipping. The last main course was egg white fried rice topped with crispy shredded dried scallops, before each diner ended with a bowl of red bean soup for dessert. I rarely leave reviews, but BEWARE! This place overcharges customers. On more than one occasion, they charged my credit card for more than the total on the receipt, even more than the amount I signed for, including after I left a tip. They actually change and modify the amount after you sign the receipt. This is fraud. I've also read many other Yelp reviews describing the same issue - customers being overcharged and having their payment amounts altered. Clearly, this is a pattern. They will take full advantage of your card and charge you more than what you agreed to. This is unacceptable business practice. It's one thing to deal with mediocre service or food, but it's another to be taken advantage of financially. If you decide to come here, keep your receipts and check your bank statements closely afterward. I will no longer be coming back here ever. read more

I was a bit scared to try on Xmas, given some other reviews, but I was super happy with the service, value, and delicious variety of food! It took a bit long to get our orders out but they were pretty full, and we'd ordered a LOT. If you're familiar with dimsum and understand their "system", it makes sense. We did over-order (a group of 10) and they graciously accepted our request to halt the last remaining dishes, taking them off the bill. I take it back dim sum is horrible!!! Their bakery and stir fried were okay but all the steamed food felt like it's from yesterday. Doesn't seem fresh. They are not consistent. Hard to keep supporting them along with mediocre service. They also put you by the poll - which is mad annoying. They really need to reorganize that place and let the tables be more spread out. Ambiance: let me start with what's amazing about this restaurant. This restaurant is directly right by the San Leandro Bay, and some of the seats in this restaurant really give you the best view of the bay full with sailboats, which is a view you don't often see. Food: The food unfortunately didn't quite meet my expectations though. - Steamed Rice Noodle with Pork Ribs: I really enjoyed this a lot. Basically, it was plain chang fen (rice noodle rolls) topped with ribs in black bean sauce. Delicious and I would order this again. - Beed Rice Noodle Rolls: pretty good and the filling was generous. I generally would stay away from any steamed beef type of dim sum, but I enjoyed this because it had a lot of beef filling. - Steamed Bbq Pork Bun: pretty standard with fluffy warm bun but the ratio of meat to bun was a little off; it could use some more filling. - Steamed Egg Custard Bun: it was creamier than it looked. Decent as well. - House Special Shrimp Dumpling: it tasted good, but the skin fell apart almost immediately as soon as I picked it up. Not sure why the integrity of the skin was very fragile. It made a messy eating. - Steamed Siu Mai: I didn't enjoy their pork siu may as the meat was too hard it was almost "crunchy". This is probably the first place I've been where I didn't expect it to be good due to the Yelp review aggravate of 2.5 stars. The only reason why I decided to come is because I saw this place on the list of tasty buns in an old article posted at a Walnut Creek Dim Sum place. I decided to visit all the places listed in the article as a new goal. Firstly, there was plenty of parking. the place is situated within neighborhoods of condos and apartments. It's right next to the water with a view of the harbor, plenty of boats. Coming in around 11:30 on a Saturday (near open hours), I noticed that there were plenty of Asians sitting in the tables near the window view. By the time I finished my meal, the place was well packed. The food selection was great. The servers come by with dim sum dish options. The dishes were big and plentiful. I got to choose what I want to eat... as opposed to some Dim Sum places nowadays where I just order from a menu. There is also a menu and I used that to order the veggies I didn't see available with the servers. I choose to dine here because They are normally not very busy. Seats and tables are not places too very close to each other. Unlike other dim sum places, the tables are so crowded where one can barely get by. Their comfortable seating and nice harbor views compensated for their food. As for food goes, it mediocre. I forgot to take a picture of the menu. How we, we got one of the set lunch menu for $110. It canes with 1) live fish porridge 2) fish chow fun 3) whole peaking duck 4) two medium dim sum 5) two small dim sum 6) one large and one Specialty dim sum from menu. It was plenty for four adults two kids. Porridge and chow fun was pretty decent. I don't like chow fun with too much oil, their chow fun was pretty on point. But as for the rest of the dishes...mediocre. Another reason I chose this place was that they have parking on site. Restrooms are nice and clean. For the female restrooms, there were 5-6 stalls with a few sinks. They were al cleaned and no odor as I walked in. Cleanliness is important to me. The island city of Alameda has a number of solid options for traditional Cantonese options whether for a dim sum brunch or traditional family style dining, Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant may be the most unassuming of the lot and through my own experience was surprisingly good. Located in the Marina Village district on the north side of the island next to the Oakland Yacht Club, Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant has been open since 2016 taking over a massive space along the Oakland Estuary that clearly was never intended to be a home to banquet-style Chinese dining but has certainly made their home its own. With seaside views of the water and sailboats in the foreground and downtown Oakland in the distance, Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant's greatest claim is its stunning views. In addition to their wondrous view, Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant has an ample private parking lot, which even in Alameda is quite hard to come by. We have heard of the food and view being served up at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant ever since they opened seven years ago, but never got the chance to until a recent weekday afternoon, when a group of two friends and I chose to dine here for a dim sum brunch. The service at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant can be a bit inattentive at best, as this is exemplified by the fact there is no host or hostess to greet you at their main area. Customers just walk in and by chance if they can flag down a server or their main manager he'll ask how many are in your party and seat you. Luckily they were not busy with such an abundance of customers on the day we went for lunch. Here at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant, it is traditional Hong Kong style dim sum ordering and dining as they give you a paper menu that is in both English and Chinese and you mark which menu items that you want to order with either a check mark or a number, if you choose to order more than one item. Since we came for dim sum, we tend to bring our own tea bag, which is allowed but here at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant they do charge $1.25 per person for hot water regardless if you bring your own accompaniment. The lunchtime menu at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant is broken up into sections including Steamed, Bun, Baked, Rice Noodle Roll, Pan-Fried & Deep-Fried, Dessert, BBQ Oven and Chef's Recommendations. Although we were here for dim sum, which tends to involve steamed and deep-fried sharable small dishes, we appreciated the totality of the menu being offered at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant. We opted to put our number "1" next to Steamed Beef Balls, Steamed Siu Mai, House Special Shrimp Dumplings, Baked Custard Buns, Beef Rice Noodle Rolls, and for an entrée, we ordered their Dried Beef Chow Fun. The order of our food being brought out was unique to say the least, as the Beef Balls were followed by our Chow Fun, and then our Custard Bun dessert, concluding with our Siu Mai, Beef Noodle Rolls and Har Gow. It was a unique progression of our meal to say the least, as we tend to enjoy our Chow Fun at the end of our meal to be followed by any desserts, as they tend to cool off before we can enjoy them. Of the food that we did enjoy at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant, their Beef Chow Fun was a real star, as it was a hearty dish complete with an abundance of sliced yellow onions and bean sprouts, not to mention a plethora of grilled sliced beef. All our dim sim dishes were more than satisfactory, as the best aspect of dining at Pacific Lighthouse Restaurant are the portion sizes of all of their plates from entrées to dim sum, these were some of the largest plates that I have enjoyed for Chinese food in quite some time. From the beef filling in the Beef Rice Noodle Roll to the Custard filling in their Buns, the totality of everything made us full beyond belief, so much so I had enough for not one but two lunchtime meals in the future. Obviously we were pleased enough that return visits will be in our future, because if we could get this much food at such a reasonable price, their dinners must be as plentiful as well, and we would definitely like to compare it with their competitors on the island. Bad food, poor service, and expensive price. If you're thinking about it, do NOT host your weddings or big celebrations here. I try my best not to give one star reviews unless I've been to the place several times but this place is deserving of one of these reviews. I have been here 2 times in the past 3 months, for large, pre-planned celebrations, and the experience is CONSISTENTLY terrible. There are different issues every times, ranging from the food to the service, and there has never been a smooth go-through with this restaurant. Food (3/10) - Some of the food is decent (i.e. the duck or honey walnut shrimp) but these are pretty commonplace and difficult to mess up. Almost everything else has had some issue or another and it is CONSISTENTLY bad. We have had soup that they forgot to put salt in (obviously extremely bland and watery), sandy sea cucumbers, flavorless scallops, and fish that was so salty that it was inedible. The problems with their food are just so-wide ranging and often that its hard to call it "just a mistake" or "a bad day". They just consistently fail to put out good food so often, that it's inexcusable. This is on TOP of the $20,000 price tags that we're putting on these meals because they are for such big celebrations. In the case that someone is putting such large and celebratory occasions to your business, there should be extra care put in, NOT just a half-done job. Service (1/10) - Even worse is there service. There is ALWAYS an excuse for a problem. When we complained about the flavorless salt (after all tables at the party had to request salt and pepper to season our own soup), they made the excuse that their chef wanted to be "light-handed on the salt:. Light handed DOES NOT EQUAL flavorless. However, even more ironic was that that was the same meal where they served us inedibly salty fish. They make up excuses to try and get away with their mistakes but it doesn't make sense. WEDDING EXPERIENCE: I came here for a wedding on 9/14/2024 and the workers were rude and uncooperative. The food was bad and I would NOT recommend ever coming here for big celebrations. We had requested an 8 tables in front, 8 tables in back set-up but they gave us a 9 table in front, 7 table in back set-up with no prior notice. Our family is very traditional about how the tables should be set-up so this posed a problem. But okay, let's say we let this slide because, maybe they didn't understand the importance. Told us that they would push food at 7 when we told them in advance that the reception starts at 6:30. All servers were just sitting around eating there dinner. If we hadn't checked in, they would have just kept eating. Food starts coming out and almost all of the dishes are subpar. In an 8 course meal, only 3 were decent. We had a ton of sand and grit in our sea cucumbers + abalone dish (probably the most expensive thing on the menu) and when we mentioned the sand to them, they said we could take it up with the chefs ourselves without offering any sort of solution. Their garlic noodles looked like they boiled some noodles and brought them out. Bland, flavorless, and no redeeming quality whatsoever. Worse yet, they are MISSING several courses. We had ordered two substitutions (lobster ball for honey walnut shrimp and instead of the "garlic noodles" for fried rice). Also, the lobster balls had a peanut exterior when we had guests who could not eat peanuts. They did not mention this when presenting it but thankfully, we did not have any allergic reactions. They did NOT refund us for these substitutions, even though these substitutions should be extra. Next, they charge us an additional $200 fee for food eaten by our help staff. The charge was not the issue, but we had brought an exact amount to pay for the dinner. They had requested cash so we tried to accommodate by bringing. However, we didn't have the extra cash on us since we weren't expecting the surcharge. We offered to swipe our card but very loudly, the manager, ERIC, started screaming at us. This was enough to catch the attention of surrounding party tables, who offered to pay the charge because of the scene it was causing. They also forgot to bring dessert to SEVERAL TABLES. We had a lot of tables who did not get the red bean dessert or wedding cake that is served at the end. These were also important tables that were important guests (bridal party, aunts and uncles from New Jersey, etc. ) Lastly, to cap off this night, they presented us the remaining wedding cake in a random Heineken cardboard box. After they had cut the cake, they tossed it in a dirty cardboard box (with no wrapping or protection) and presented it to us. ABSOLUTELY, DO NOT EVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Don't go. We had the steamed chicken, Peking pork chops, Japanese fried tofu with mushrooms and green vegetables, corn and seafood soup, and Yang Chow fried rice. Gonna review about the food and then the service. The food: 1) Look at the picture and see how terrible the seafood pan fried noodles is. Sauce for it was poured on the noodles but isn't enough to even cover the pan fried noodles. And as you can see, how sad looking it is with the 6 pieces of seafood provided. This is unacceptable. 2) Peking style was alright. But not something to rave about and not something that would bring me there. 3) Roast duck was so so. There's better duck in Oakland Chinatown or Chef Wok. Wasn't flavorful but at least it was tender and juicy. The service: 1) Tried placing an order online through their website for pick up but order kept failing and cancelled. Decided to call in to order. But when arrived to pick up, could not find order and so had to wait for about 40 minutes from initial scheduled pick up time. 2) When they brought the food out, the gravy for the pan fried noodle already spilled in the take away bag (haven't even move once received the bag). Asked them to replace it but they said no as can't make it again. Wow - you made a mistake and you put it on the customer? 3) Service was rude throughout the encounter. We haven't came here for a while and decided to give it a try for our "Foodie Thursday ". They were running a dim sum special for $69.99 and it included choice of 2 (S), 2 (M), 1(L), 1 (K), a crispy pigs feet, and a lobster noodle. It was quite a bit of food for just the two of us, plenty of leftovers. The atmosphere was great as we were sat next to their large window overlooking the Alameda estuary. Food and service were good with one exception. Our Siu Mai was raw in the middle. I notified the head waiter and he immediately took it away and ordered a new one for us. I would come back again and hopefully my next visit will have no mishaps. read more

Visited on 06/29/21. Came to visit my sister who recommended this place, so why not try it out. We ordered 3 dishes. On their website, each plate was "$13". However when we went to order in person each plate was actually $18! I even received their menu in person and it also states "$18". Disappointed that they do not have their updated menu online. Food was delicious but will not come back because of the price. I also paid in cash and HIGHLY recommend to ONLY pay in cash. I was a little skeptical on the workers there and lost a bit of trust once I stepped foot inside so did not want to risk using my credit card. I did a call in and they still took 20 mins longer than estimated and it's not even busy. -had to ring the bell twice to get any help -was sent to different parts of the building to pick up my order. Came here last Friday, a cloudy day the week before Christmas for lunch with friends one of which lives at the apartments across the street. This was all our first time eating at this restaurant. We were seated at a great table right by the window overlooking the harbor with boats from the Oakland Yacht club. We had a reservation for lunch so that helped to get such a nice table but really all tables are nice with a view out on the water. There is a large TV in the main dining space which is very big and appears to cater to large private events. At the table were Dim Sum menus. We flagged someone down and requested regular menus. Highlights were the honey walnut prawns, pea sprouts with garlic and fried rice. Kinda pricey but left very full with lots of leftovers and would likely order three dishes instead of five for our party of four. This place is open for outdoor dining in the back of their restaurant right by the water! They don't have many tables - about 10 tables. I came on a Monday a little before 12pm and the food came out relatively fast. Most of the food was good but nothing amazing, just satisfied my dimsum cravings. Some of the deep fried dishes were undercooked so they had to be taken back and taken off my bill. A lot of items on their dimsum menu are also unavailable but the staples are. Nothing I ate today really stood out, it was just good. I was pretty satisfied with the meal but the service at the end was just baffling to me. I grew up going to Chinese restaurants so I'm used to mediocre service. I gave a waiter my credit card to pay the bill, waited over 10 minutes, asked another waiter where my credit card and bill was, and they said he's working on it. Meanwhile, the same server I gave my credit card to was giving back receipts to other tables so where was mine?? So we asked him then a couple minutes later, he just gives me my credit card back, with no receipt nothing for me to sign. Then he comes back saying he never charged my card and it fell out... This whole process to pay the bill took 20 minutes which is ridiculous. The owner said he's new so hopefully he won't make that mistake again but I won't be back anytime soon. read more

American Express cardholder beware! I had lunch today with my parents for a total of $90 and tried to pay with my American Express Platinum Card. The waiter took it, turned around and literally tossed it on the table in front of me, demanding a Visa or Master Card, saying AmEx changes too much of fees. Feeling embarrassed I had to dig through my wallet for my spare Visa Card. I was dumbfounded with the feeling that I was being looked down for using an AmEx Platinum or what. They clearly have the American Express Welcome sign posted at their front door. read more
