Located across the street from Bank of America; there is a 38 bus stop right outside too. Been by a few times and looked around. Today, I ordered a large hot chocolate for $2.40. It was pretty good but not spanish style: so thick you could stick a churro in it and it'd stay vertical. BTW, they didn't have any churro's or even know what a churro was! I liked this pastry filled with jambon, tomatoes and hearts of palm was deelish. $1.50 was a good deal. Next time, I'll get two. I also tried this log of a pastry, about 8 inches long and covered with an icing; it was filled with cream cheese. $3.50 was expensive for this grown up donut thingie. It is filling though. Neither pastry is overly sugary. I did see some guarana drinks and other brazilian looking drinks, including some chocolaty milk drink. Customer service: ok, but you must bother them to get service. then they are personable. Decor: tiny, cramped, spanish football blaring over everything. These are brazilians! read more

Açai na tigela, coxinha, kibbe...fried stuff filled with meat, fresh juice, and exotic fruit beverages for breakfast...yum. I'm not too crazy about the Brazilian places I've been to in the states although there are a few churrasco places now that I haven't tried. This is kind of every day Brazilian food...the kind of stuff I absolutely lived off of for months the last time I was there. I'm so into savory pastries..(I always go for the cheddar scones or ham and cheese croissants) and Brazil has taken it to an art form. Every where you go, even gas stations have passable coxinhas in a glass case, you'll see this kind of food, and definitely at the beach there will be someone walking around selling salgados, or savory pastries. Coxinha are, I guess you would call them, Chicken Croquettes. They are dough that is filled with a mixture of chicken, cheese, onions, parsley, everyone has their own mix. The mix goes into the dough which is pinched into a tear drop shape that I guess is supposed to look like a drumstick. You then dip it in egg and roll it in bread crumbs and deep fry it. Usually eaten with hot sauce or ketchup, mustard or mayo. Brazilian hot sauce is usually made with malagueta pepper, a really sharp, hot one. Brazilians also seem to be crazy about any combination of ham and cheese. Pastels are often filled with this. They are more like a pastry, thin shell filled and deep fried. Another staple is pao de quejo..or cheese bread, pretty self explanatory. The other thing I lived off of in Brazil was Suco, or fruit blended with water and ice...or milk instead of water, and they have that here too...as well as açai, this deep purple fruit which has become in vogue but you have to have it the way they do it in Brazil, thick, in a bowl, with banana and granola on top. Although I've never had it as good as there, Sunstream does it well. The ones in Brazil seem thicker and a much darker purple color with little crunchy bits and more intense flavor. I almost forgot about kibbe. Kibbe is a football (American football) shaped spiced beef ball mixed with bulgar, almost like a kofta or other Indian/Pakistani meatballs. This is no mistake because it has it's origins in Lebanese or Syrian cuisine. The same goes for Esfiha, which is an Arabic flat bread pizza type thing. There's actually a popular fast food chain specializing in Arabic food called Habib's. They apparently wanted to open one up in Miami but were concerned about their logo which is a big fat smiling Arab guy with a fez. Anyway, this is a cool little place. Also on the Brazilian cafe tip, Go to Brazil Cafe in Berkeley on University and get their tri tip sandwich! They have açai too. read more

Try the coxinhas (kind of like dumplings but not, filled with chicken). or Acaí ....this is a real treat, with granola and bananas on top! This place will blow your mind! The chicken coxinha and acai bowl are the best way to start a saturday morning, still in your pjs. They deliver here, and are usually pretty fast getting to your house. My boyfriend is brazilian and he introduced me to this place. I would have never of known that it existed it's so tiny, it's easy to miss. But they do have a big green and yellow sign in the front of their window... the staff that works there is friendly and helpful. if you dont know what something is, just ask, they'll be more than happy to explain. my boyfriend always orders for me, so i dont know any of the names of the awesome food that they have there. read more

At least one of my roommates in both places I've lived in San Francisco has been Brazilian. Both recommended Sunstream, as it sells premium Brazilian pastries and smoothies. I managed to score a job close by and now it's my regular lunch spot. I recommend the Rio Bowl which is a bowl filled with crushed açaí (IPA: /asai/), sliced bananas and granola on top. It's both refreshing and delicious. I now swear by the power of the açaí berry, it reinvigorates me, giving me bountiful energy and suppressing my appetite for hours. The pastries and cheese bread are also delicious and everything tastes fresh. So far so good! read more

I've always looked at Sun Stream while waiting for the 38 and never thought to go in. But when craving an acai bowl, I'm pretty sure Sun Stream is the only place that'll give you one-- a good one, too! I decided to treat myself after a long week's work to one of their acai bowls. My goodness it was huge and very very very delicious. It comes in a nice plastic cup for those who are on the go. Along with the acai comes a good portion of sliced bananas and on top of that, a delicious and crunchy granola. I believe it was $4.95. The men working there really nice, but being the only Asian person in the store made me feel a little out of place, hahahhaa. They were playing an interesting Portuguese drama on the TV... This acai bowl took me the morning and afternoon to finish (in increments, of course :]). Definitely something you can share if you just want a snack, or have it as a very satisfying breakfast. read more

Well, when you are craving for Brasilian snacks, this is the place to go. I preferred the location in South SF better overall. Regular stuffs, coxinha, risoli, etc....I can make açaí bowls myself. It's actually kinda expensive for one item, but oh well, who else make Brasilian snacks in the neighborhood. One coxinha is very filling though. Unfortunately I'm not healthy so I am not here to review the acai bowls or fresh fruit juices they serve, but to review the delicous Coxinhas (chicken croquettes) Risoli, and the service. First of all, Im Brazilian and I am addicted to coxinhas. They are soooooo good and whenever Im in Brazil I hunt them down like a crazy person and try to find the spot with the best ones. For my birthday this year, my grandma made them herself and mailed them to me! Sunstream's coxinhas are delicious!!!! They are never stale, they use all white meat chicken with great seasonings and a savory sauce to keep everything moist!!!! I could go on, and on but I'll stop and say that they're yummy snacks are delicious and they always treat me well!!! read more

I've never been to Brazil, so I can't comment on Sun Stream's authenticity, but I can comment on its deliciousness. I spent about 3 weeks in San Francisco recently, and this was the one place that was so good and so interesting that I had to keep coming back. It's tiny - about 6 seats in the whole place - but I was always able to grab enough chairs in the morning. The staff is really friendly and nice about me struggling through pronouncing things in Portuguese. There's usually a slow trickle of Brazilian men, especially cab drivers, coming in and out in the morning. It's a pleasant atmosphere, and it feels like walking into a little hidden community. The acai bowl is the star of the menu. It's ice cold, it's refreshing, and it's a satisfying breakfast. I bet it would also make a great treat on a hot afternoon. It's big too. You can definitely split one if you don't have a huge appetite. Most of the pastries are almost as good as the acai bowl. My girlfriend's favorite is the cheese roll, which is a little sweet and has a bit of coconut sprinkled on the top. I like the coxinha and the decadent, caramelized banana bread a lot, but I think the quibe is the best. It has a great blend of crispy and chewy textures and a lot of flavor. The cheese bread is the only thing I don't like as much as many of the people on Yelp do, but even that is pretty good. The coffee is pretty good, but despite the name of the place, if you come here just for coffee, you're missing the point. Come with a friend, split an acai bowl, and get a pastry each. With coffee and a tip, you'll spend less than $20, and you'll be really happy. And it doesn't hurt that the place is on the 38 line and only a couple blocks from the 43. read more

OK, I may be biased because after moving cross country to SF, being so very homesick, missing my loving large Brazilian Family and incredible food and culture, I found Sun Stream Coffee. This place is amazing, and fills my heart with SO much JOY. I came by last week for Coxinhas with my non-brazilian boyfriend and he was blown away. I've been eating Coxinhas my entire life, and I thought they were pretty good. I consider myself a brazilian food connoisseur and this place is good! I went back to Sunstream yesterday to get an Acai bowl (DELICIOUS) and a coxinha, obviously. And again, AMAZING! The pastries are fresh, and you can tell with just one bite. I've had tons of awful, cold, stale brazilian pastries. Sun Steam does it well. The place is small, and certainly not a sit down fancy place. It's cozy, with limited seating. They also sell brazilian goodies and small selection of groceries. They sell Brazilian cookies that I grew up eating, called Passa Tempo, and they are so good. I definitely recommend Sun Stream! p.s. Wow this place really sucks. Two dogs were running around inside, the pastries looked like a child made them, and the floor is sticky. The cashier asked me what my order was, I said just a minute, he replies "what is this just a minute?!" and walks off. Finally I order a medium mocha priced at 3.80, I was charged 4.50, gave him a $5 and he didn't give me my change. I asked if he had any dairy alternative because I'm lactose intolerant, and he replies, "what? No alternative". For being a no name hole in the wall, this place is way over priced, bad service, filthy, food looks gross, and mocha tastes bland. This is why folks who want to support local businesses end up back at starbucks, unfortunately. read more

Kook brazilians. This is my first post and i am forced to do this because they have pissed me off this bad. I mean it's cool to have your people come by and be Brazilian and everything, but when you start ignoring paying customers you have to draw the line. I dont know what their deal is but i think they genuinely dont like people that come in there and dont speak Portuguese to them Tried an Acai bowl- terrible- only put bananas on it and no honey. And it was about ten ounces. No go. I guess the coffee is alright. One time though, i asked for an ice coffee and all the guy did was put ice in coffee. So in ten minutes i had room temperature watered down poo-coffee. I hate that more than anything all i have ever done is give them money and spend 30 seconds in there, and everytime they look at me like its a hassle to pour one single cup. Dont go here- you wont feel welcome Go a block down the street to Royal Grounds. Best Ice coffees ever plus they have extra rich cream to make them super dank. read more

YUMMY, YUMMY, YUMMY!! Sunstream Cafe is a great quick stop for good Brazilian food. I can not go there without eating two huge pao de quejos and tasting many of the other freshly prepared food. This is also a good place to stock up on guarana! If you go, keep in mind that this is not a typical sit down cafe. You order food at the counter and either stand or grab one of the few stools. This is also not a place to find a huge spread of brazilian food. There are plenty of options, just set your expectations accordingly. read more

I love Brazilians(people & wax)! So why wouldn't I make the effort to try their food? Let me start out by saying the ACAI(pronounced ah-sigh-ee) is fabulous and full of antioxidants. Its like a dark purple berry smoothie, topped with bananas, granola and honey. Oh so yummy and good for you. On the downside, if you indulge in it too much, it can lead to you growing an extra ass cheek and look pregnant when your not. Just stopped in for the first time and I was blown away by the deliciousness and uniqueness of Sunstream. I was treated to the most delectable, tender and still warm Brazilian pastry the name of which I cannot pronounce. (dusted with fresh coconut.) The latte I had was creamy and delicious as well. I am not a coffee snob, by any means, but Sunstream's latte made from Brazilian coffee beans is, in my opinion, the best latte I've had in the Bay Area since I moved up here in September. I have also enjoyed everything I've tried, eg. pão de queijo, acai bowl, coxinha, and most of all I LOVE LOVE LOVE their delectable, creamy corn risoli. And they even deliver which is very convenient for us..Our gym, Bushido Fitness Center, will have about 5-6 orders of the acai in a bowl and they deliver to us in the sunset district! That is cool. Sun Stream is responsible for converting me from a tea addict to a (tea AND) coffee addict. I used to be one of those freaks who LOVED the smell of coffee, and loved anything coffee flavored: ice cream, candy, etc., but would have to hold my nose to gulp it down during any "need to stay awake" time. I even resorted to caffeine pills to avoid drinking it (Overshare? Probably) and stay awake. These were the dark days, all before I tried Sun Stream...my senses finally agree, the smell, the taste of this coffee is perfection! Much like everything from Brazil, it's the best in it's class. The pastries are also scrumptious, their avocado smoothie is heaven, and there's a Brazilian bikini shop next door in case you want to get the total So. American experience (would hold off on the pastry in that case)! 5 stars all around! read more

Best Drink you can have before or after a good workout is Sunstreams ACAI. Make sure to get the Granola on top. It is delicous and one of my favorite drinks anywhere.
