We celebrated our 4 year anniversary here and it was so nice! The decor and ambience is so cozy and elegant. We had the best waiter. He was so fun and social and very attentive. The food was very delicious and so worthwhile. We like having a few fine dining places where we can go for nice food. We know it'll be more expensive when we go there but we want that sometimes for a finer experience and this place was that for us. We still felt satisfied with the portion sizes and quality for the price. They have seasonal menus so the other thing is you won't get bored with the options since they change. We will be coming back.

While visiting Utah, I stopped by this place for lunch. I ordered the crab cakes and a Beet Salad with Salmon. The crab cakes were moist, seasoned perfectly, flavorful and packed with real crab. The salad came with two thick slices of beets and a large portion of goat cheese. Without question, the crab cakes were some of the best I've had. Both dishes were amazing as was the plate's presentation. The restaurant is beautifully designed and the decor goes well with its overall vibe. Kudos, to my server Dominic. He had a great personality and was very honest when asked about his recommendations. He definitely understands and values the importance of providing good customer service.

We stopped at Painted Pony during a road trip through St. George and were so glad we did. It's a beautiful, classy restaurant without feeling over the top. I had the beet salad and pumpkin purée soup, both were fresh and full of flavor. My cousins loved their French onion soups. The service was superb, attentive and kind. Such a great spot if you're passing through and want something a little elevated.

The ambiance is on point -- classy and high-end. Started with an Aperol Spritz -- a bit bitter at first, so give it a stir, then it's perfect. The beet salad was phenomenal -- the goat cheese between the beets and the sauce were unreal. Easily a must-try. They served fresh bread that paired perfectly with the salad. The grilled tenderloin steak looked amazing and tasted even better. The seasoning and butter were to die for, and it melted in my mouth. The asparagus and mashed potatoes tied it all together -- smaller portions but just right. Paired it with an Obsidian Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley -- divine with the steak. Overall, an elevated dining experience I'd absolutely recommend.

Lovely meal at the Painted Pony. Sweet and caring serving staff. We asked about the coffee and she had never had coffee but told us about it. Food was great. View was charming. We were passing through but would 100% recommend it.

My son and I were visiting town and wanted an upscale dinner out. The Painted Pony came highly recommended and has been a staple in town for decades, so I figured we should give it a try. We had a reservation for a patio table, and when we arrived they let us know that they'd booked an additional table indoors for us so we could choose which one we wanted (the weather had turned bad and they wanted to make sure we were comfortable.) I appreciated that extra effort to look out for us and we opted to sit indoors. That turned out to be a wise decision, since we watched the storm roll in from the window. The service was fantastic and I was especially pleased with the accommodations they made for my dietary restrictions. (The chef must really like cheese since just about every dish had some sort of cheese ingredient in it.) The main dishes were ok. My son had a steak which he enjoyed. I had the Braised Lamb Shank which I found to be a bit overwhelming. While it was cooked well, the sauce was so strong in flavor that I could only have a few bites. Perhaps I'm one of the unusual guests that enjoys flavor but prefers it not to punch me in the tongue. Not a big deal, I'll order something different in the future.

We always enjoy our meals and service here, the menus are well thought out, dishes played well and the servers always willing to answer questions about food intolerance needs. The ambience inside and outside is simply beautiful. We always find this restaurant to be a relaxing and peaceful place to dine. There are a few gluten free and dairy free options, I recommend reviewing the online seasonal menu in advance or calling ahead. The food is always incredible (except maybe the gf bread given with the oil and vinegar, that is the only thing that needs some work). The mocktails and drinks are incredible too!

"Dining at Painted Pony was a delightful escape--where exquisite flavors meet a dash of savor. If you're in St. George Utah, consider P.P your culinary passport to sophistication with a side of smiles. Truly a tasteful experience worth trotting back for!" Thanks for a nice experience! ~CaliMan

I was looking for a quick getaway for my birthday and we decided to head to Utah. I wanted to eat at a nice restaurant to enjoy my birthday dinner. I put in a search for "fine dining" in St. George and this place popped up. I took time to read reviews from fellow Yelpers and Ania K's review made my decision. The restaurant can be a little hard to find as it is somewhat hidden in this plaza but we did find it with five minutes to spare before our reservation time. As we entered, one could not help but notice the awards and articles that were hanging on the wall. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and taken to our window table with not much of view but that's ok we were there to dine. We were treated very well by the team of Nate and Anjuli. Their service was stellar. Nate was extremely helpful with recommendations which helped us in making our selections. The restaurant gives off a warm, cozy feeling. The walls are painted a deep red/gold with gorgeous art adorning the walls. The bar is small but intimate. This is a romantic restaurant for two as well a place to bring friends and enjoy special occasions. It has been open for 24 years and highly successful. Perusing the menu, this restaurant is known for their steaks and pork chops. The cocktail list is also extensive. I ended up ordering a French 75 although it was made a little differently than I have experienced, but still very tasty. My man went with the Pony Punch a tasty libation filled with rum and citrus. From there we moved on and ordered the Sesame Crusted Ahi as a starter. What was so incredible about this appetizer was the Ahi was served on a bed of arugula with a pomegranate mignonette and peanut lime vinaigrette. This dish was so light and the pomegranate mignonette just set off the delicious taste of the Ahi. After eating this we could not wait to taste dinner. There was quite a long wait between the appetizer and our dinner coming out but they were pretty busy on this weekday night. Not sure what the issue was but we waited patiently. I was torn on which entree to order but I went with the Grilled Tenderloin Steak accompanied with garlic - parmesan whipped potatoes, a cocoa-raspberry demi and asparagus. WOW! I was so glad I ordered this entreé. The steak was cooked perfectly and the garlic mashed potatoes were kissed with just the right amount of garlic, not overpowering. The asparagus were thick which I don't care for as I prefer thin asparagus but they were seasoned well. Hubby enjoyed his Bone In Pork Chop served with blue cheese walnut stuffed pear, chipotle corn bread pudding and a smoked tomato relish. The stuffed pear was sweet and savory all in one. Incredibly delicious as Nate had informed us it would be. For dessert Anjuli talked us into sharing a slice of their homemade key lime pie. It was delicious as was the mini ice cream sundae they brought out to celebrate my birthday. They also serve lunch and there is outdoor dining available on the inviting patio outside. Overall our experience here was five stars all the way and I cannot wait to return to try more of their dishes.

If you're looking for a great restaurant with great Ambiance, Service and Food, this is the place. As good a restaurant as you will find anywhere in the State. The price is what you would expect for such a nice establishment, and I would even consider it to be a good value when compared to fine dining in SLC. We were celebrating my daughter's 19th birthday and since we were out of town in St. George, we decided to take her out for something nice. She ordered the Grilled Tenderloin Steak, with whipped potatoes, Cocoa-raspberry demi, and asparagus. She ordered it MR (temp was probably a little closer to Med then MR) and it was delicious. 5/5 I love a good purée soup and their special was a Carrot Jalapeño Soup it was very good; the jalapeños didn't give it any heat just flavor that blended really well with the carrots. The carrot flavor was very mild. Loved it. 5/5 They change their menu seasonally with the exception of the Bone in Pork Chop, balsamic roasted grapes, curried sweet potato puree, haricot verts, it is their signature dish and a staple on the menu for years. I believe if a restaurant has a signature item, that they are known for and proud of, you should always try it, so I did, and it was amazing, one of the best Pork Chops I've ever had. The only problem is that there are other items on the menu that I would like to try but now I don't know how I will order anything else. 5/5 My wife ordered the Short Rib Ravioli, gorgonzola cream, cherry chutney, crispy shallots, and thought her meal was the best on the table. It was very good but a little on the sweet side, I'd still eat it and really enjoy it, but I liked the savory of the Port Chop a little better. Still a 5/5 My father ordered the Grilled Ribeye, mushroom arancini, broccolini, truffle crema. Excellent, I even stole a bite. 5/5 And my mother ordered the Green Goddess Salad and added Salmon for an extra $10 and loved it. 5/5 We tried the molten lava cake desert, it took a little longer to cook, maybe 30 min. but very good. 4/5 (I've had it before at other places) Our server was amazing, describing the specials and entrées with expertise and ease and making sure we all had an enjoyable time. Would highly recommend if you're looking for upscale dining in St. George.

Food Quality: **** (Delicious, high-quality steaks) Service: *** (Friendly but a bit slow) Setting: **** (Cozy, upscale, great ambiance) Cost: *** (A bit on the pricier side, but worth it for the quality) Overall: **** (A great stop for a delicious meal while passing through) I was driving through St. George on my way from Colorado to California, and I'm so glad I stopped at Painted Pony. The steak I had was absolutely delicious--cooked perfectly, tender, and full of flavor. The quality of the meat was evident, and I was really impressed with how well it was prepared. The atmosphere is great for a more upscale dining experience, with a cozy, welcoming vibe. The setting is intimate but not stuffy, perfect for a nice, relaxed dinner. The service was friendly but a little slow, possibly because the restaurant was busy, so I'll dock it a star for that. However, it didn't ruin the overall experience. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but considering the quality of the food and the overall dining experience, it's definitely worth it. This place is now on my list of go-to stops when I pass through St. George--a must-try if you're in the area!

Butterscotch crème brûlée with ginger snap - fantastic combo

The best service from Will & an outstanding meal while visiting beautiful St. George. Everything is made in house. I had cilantro carrot soup as a starter with homemade sourdough bread- fantastic! For my main course, I had the braised chicken with pumpkin polenta. The most fantastic fall combination ever. Although I was quite full, I knew that skipping dessert would be a big mistake here so I opted for the butterscotch crème brûlée with a ginger snap cookie. The restaurant is beautiful. The service is highly attentive and welcoming. I can't wait to return.

We placed our appetizer and drink orders and later dinner. We simply ordered the trout, crab Mac and cheese and I ordered the duck. The Water Mellon Pork belly came out first. The pork belly was tough and hard not like times past. We really needed a steak knife and 1/2 of the 2 portions we ordered was not edible. The trout and crab mac came out and I waited and waited not 10 min but nearly 30 minutes for the duck. I spoke to our waitress and I think the manager and they kept saying it takes more time to prepare. At about 25 minutes I canceled my duck as my wife and friend were done with their meal. I was given just excuses and no explanation. I suggested that since they KNOW the duck takes longer to prepare they should have started that first. I was told by the two I spoke too that they put in the order and it's started in that order so my duck was last. So the so called Chef's who should know the duck takes longer blew it along with the wait staff. In every restaurant setting I've been in, the chef would to start what takes longer first so the table of two or more would be served at the SAME time. But not here at Wood Ash Rye. As mentioned this was one of at least four other times here. But in our years absence, the familiar faces were gone, the so called Chefs looked like line cooks and the wait staff was clueless on how to make things right. Sad....we won't be back.
