I've been coming here for years and LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! I always order the tuna melt and it's my favorite in the whole world. The house salad with walnuts and blue cheese is equally amazing! I also just had their newest crab cakes which were better than ever. Beautiful outside patio seating. The only thing I miss is that they used to offer a shrimp dish as an appetizer which was super yummy but it hasn't been on the menu for years. I had the meatloaf for lunch. It sure didn't look or taste like it was homemade. As a matter of fact, it did not look like meatloaf. It looked like it had been cut off of a meatloaf "log" of processed food. There was no texture of hamburger. The meatloaf had been ground to a paste and reconstituted into a patty. My companion had an other beef entree and it too was exactly the same size, shape, and texture of my meatloaf. We both agreed the service and ambiance were great, but the food we ordered was a real disappointment. We won't come back. read more

We arrived at the painted pony around 730 on a Monday. The restaurant was challenging to find. This could have been our fault, but seemed like the locations fault. The hostess was lovely and showed us to our table. We ordered lots of stuff and were disappointed with half of it. First came the bread. Bread was good. Chewy with a robust crust. Our buzzer was awesome. Very unsure of himself. Reminded me of me. 30 years ago. You're going to go far kid. When our salad and appetizer arrived. The evening started to stink like the other patron scallops next to us. The blue cheese salad was delicious. However the crab cakes were not. Though they looked amazing. We knew by their large size that they were mostly flour and then when we bit in to them. We knew it was fake crab or old crab. Who knew The fluffy crab cakes with the beautiful carrot dice and blackberry stuff flopped all over it would be so terrible. They had the texture of cat food. Finally our entrees arrived. I ordered the ribeye and my wife ordered the hangar steak. My ribeye was cooked and seasoned perfectly the blue cheese butter made my mouth sing. However the can of corn that was haphazardly dumped on my steak ruined the presentation and offended my taste buds. My wife's hangar steak was terribly undercooked. They had to refire it twice and still failed to get it to medium rare. The pineapple chimichurri was an experiment that went wrong in some test kitchen that a person with zero taste buds must have approved. Overall the experience was great. However, due to having some self respect we will never return because of how badly the manager and server dropped the ball. We obviously did not like the food as we did not eat much of it, but because we did not complain. We received our entire bill. The restaurant business fails in this regard. It rewards complainers with free food and drinks, but if you're pleasant and happy. You get the full bill. Disappointed but mostly full. A local hiking guide recommended this wonderful restaurant to some friends and me during a getaway weekend at the Red Mountain Resort. We didn't know anything about it other than we were told it was good. That was an understatement. We were seated outside because that was the first seating available for our reservation. At first we were concerned about the cold, but the patio was so cozy with plenty of heaters and blankets if we needed them. It was so quaint and intimate, we all felt like were were in a cozy little treehouse above the street. The ambiance was perfect, as was the service. (Our server was Cyndy - she was full of information, answered every question, made great recommendations). If that wasn't enough, the food was spectacular: we had the phyllo baked brie w/a blueberry compote and roasted garlic to start, and one order of the carrot jalapeno soup. Everyone raved. For dinner, I had the petit tenderloin with a delicious root veggie puree. The others had honey glazed scallops, the Faroe Island salmon, and Airline Chicken. All of them were beautifully prepared, fresh, and well worth the price. Extensive wine menu - hundreds of wines. There is no wine list available on their website. That's possibly a Utah thing. Had an awesome lunch here when visiting St George. It's a Husband and wife owned restaurant since 2004, offering seasonal cuisine, "casual fine dining." It's located in the historic downtown but tucked away in Ancestor Square (also tucked in that area and not to be missed is FeelLove Coffee). It was relatively quiet during the weekday lunch hour, but the reservations were fully booked for dinner that week. Prices were very reasonable, coming from California. We ordered two customized versions of the following, one with included side salad and one with included fries (both delish): Smoked Turkey Club - $12.00 bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, dark wheat roll *I got the Turkey club, hold the Turkey (lol), on toasted rye. So basically it was a BLTA and I loved it! *He got Turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato on a roll and also loved it. Service was friendly and attentive. And we really liked how the interior had a sense of place, matching the colors and textures of the natural beauty in St George. The ambiance was pleasant and the food that we had was delicious. The only complaint I have is that we couldn't fully enjoy all the food we ordered because it took forever to get out. Luckily we had some bread and appetizers but for our entree and sides, we couldn't 100% enjoy it all because of the service and timing. From seating to getting lemonades and first water refill it took 30 minutes (I drank my entire glass of water when first seated). From seating to appetizer was 50 minutes. And from seating to entrees was an hour and 36 minutes. We ordered within 15 minutes of arrival. So, in my opinion, due to the inability to fully enjoy our food cause of the timing of delivery, I give 3 stars. Service was the deal breaker. Had a delicious dinner with family. We made reservations and were seated immediately when we arrived. Our server, Emily, was delightful. We had the carrot and jalapeno soup and ceasar salad with the bacon wrapped dates to start. YUM! For our entrees we had the pork chop, lamb, and hangar steak. The corn bread pudding was good but a bit dry. Had a nice kick. The lamb was a tad overcooked but still good. Wow and wow! The restaurant is beautiful and it opens up as you walk towards the back. They were gracious and opened up the patio for extra seating on Valentine's Day. They had heaters and blankets in case we got cold. The service was amazing, I saw one of the guys in charge of refilling water fix and older couple's wobbly table. No hesitation and he apologized for not noticing it sooner. Our waitress was amazing. When you tell people about food allergies and/or intolerances there often sighs or looks of uncertainty. If you're gluten free, dairy free, nut allergies, anti-inflammatory, etc the staff is incredibly accommodating and non-judgmental. Our chef was so cool (we got to meet her after dinner) she shared with us that she understood allergy struggles because her son has food allergies. I loved that anytime I had a question about the food and how it's prepared our waitress answered our questions (all of them) and the chef worked to produce exquisite food, down to the oils and prep surfaces used. Pictured: Winter Harvest Salad adjusted for anti-inflammatory/ autoimmune disease needs. I used the balsamic and olive oil at the table and it was so refreshing. Fresh fruit "martini" - just fresh fruit in a martini glass, the pineapple put it over the top. Not pictures: petite sirloin, green beans and mushrooms (nothing but the cooking oil and they were the best sautéed mushrooms I ever had). All adjusted for anti-inflammatory/ autoimmune and all delicious. Big thanks for the host at the front who was the only restaurant that offered to put us on their waitlist. This place was a gem! My husband and I came here on our second night in town, after being less-than-wowed with our hotel restaurant, wood. ash. rye. It was a little tricky to find.. you have to go in a building with multiple other businesses and it's on the second floor. Walking in with no reservations, we were greeted warmly and seated promptly (on a Thursday at 8pm). The vibe is moody lighting and romantic decor. I loved that they were playing jazz standards and the volume was just right. Now that we're 40, we're starting to appreciate a slightly quieter sound level when we go out. We were pretty hungry and exhausted, having just returned from a full day of hiking Zion. We started with a cocktail each: the campfire old-fashioned and a gin drink for me with triple sec and lemon (can't recall the name). Both were well-balanced and quite perfect for what we like. We munched on some complimentary bread and olive oil while we looked over the menu. We shared the green goddess salad and this dish restored my joy of eating out. Where once, restaurants were a place to gain inspiration for home-cooking, I feel the creativity and quality has diminished since the pandemic. But not with this dish! I loved the freshness and the surprising combo of adding potatoes and eggs and a seed crisp. The dressing was incredible! For the entrees, we had two selections that were new for autumn: duck ravioli and the airline chicken. I'd like to know which airline ever made a bone-in chicken thigh, let alone one that juicy and flavorful. The acorn squash was like a bite of thanksgiving with its cider-y taste and the polenta cake was a pop of cumin flavor that tied it all together. The ravioli were al dente and had a scrumptious herbaceous oil topping along with the pumpkin coulis. Not only was it filled with minced duck, it came topped with slices of meat. Along with these awesome entrees, we shared a glass of Sangiovese. My husband works in the wine industry and was very impressed with it. We left feeling well-taken care of by our professional, friendly and extremely competent server, Will A. We thought the prices were reasonable and reflected the quality. I was on vacation with my sisters in Saint George when we stumbled upon this amazing restaurant in the cutest area with delicious food. First, the outside area is absolutely fabulous. You have plenty of stores and restaurants. Cute cobblestone and brick building with multiple grass areas and ample parking. Second, the service was absolutely incredible the hostess sat us immediately and found us a place even on a packed evening. Our server was so kind and very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended some fantastic options. Third, the food was delicious. We ordered the sage smoked quail which was crispy on the outside but juicy and moist with amazing flavor and seasoning throughout. The iceberg wedge salad was fresh and crisp with just the right amount of blue cheese, bacon, tomatoes, and onions to top off the delightful flavor. I cannot recommend this amazing restaurant enough. The Painted Pony. Historically known as the best restaurant in St. George. I've had great experiences here in the past. My experience today was awful. Long story short, the staff here completely messed up my Valentine's plans. They made a reservation for me a week ago (I made it in person) and they did not keep it. I went in today to see if I could change it and they said the reservation was never made. I was obviously frustrated. I was basically told I needed to be understanding because it's a busy day for them and me voicing my frustration with the situation was "stressing her out" . I related that it is even more stressful finding out your reservation for Valentine's Day was never actually made, even though I was told in person that it was, the day before Valentine's when there is nothing available anywhere else. None of this was met with understanding, and I was basically told I didn't know what happened when I came in the week prior, even though the person I was talking to today was never even there. At the end of the day I just got a phone call stating I was racist (I wasn't. Like, not at all. Anyone who knows me knows this is true.) and am not welcome back in their restaurant, which frankly I left with no desire to return to. Basically, The Painted Pony has good food, a subpar front end, and they would have you think that they are better than you. Very pretentious. Their mistakes are your fault and there is no convincing them otherwise. Used to be the best. No longer the case. Go to Aragosta for a much more authentic and classy dining experience. read more

We came here for our one year anniversary and can say this was some of the best food we have ever eaten! We were highly satisfied, we got the beet salad, which wasn't what we were expecting and completely beat our expectations, the smoked Brie and 2 mouth watering steak meals. We left full and happy. We also got a key lime dessert, which wasn't overly sweet or tart, just delightful to eat. We plan on coming back hopefully soon! With all that being said our waitress was less than, which is why we are giving a 4 instead of a 5 star review. She was very hard to talk to, didn't introduce herself, nor ask if we were there for a special occasion. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, is seems like she may have been having a bad day. However, we felt a little unimportant to her. With just a few questions and an introduction, I think our experience with her could have been a lot different. On a different note, our busser was amazing, he was so sweet and right on top of helping us. He was very pleasant and polite and it made me happy every time he came to our table.
