Last night, my wife wanted pasta, specifically chicken pasta. So, as she was looking online I saw she was initially looking at Pizza Hut. Oh HELL no!!! Can't let her go out like that!! I let her know we should order from somewhere that we can get some real Italian food, so I suggested Palermo's. I chose Palermo's because of the majority of good reviews here on Yelp. Matter of fact, I cannot believe that as long as I have lived in the area, this is my first time ordering from here!! Well anyhow, we decided on carryout, so I ordered the Chicken Ravioli San Remo and she had her beloved Chicken Alfredo. The greeter on the phone was very friendly, and after taking my order, she told me about 30 minutes. I got there a little early, and was told I would have to wait ten minutes. No problem at all. One note though: when I paid, it took a bit for the computer to kick in and register the transaction, so that might be something to tweak. Eight minutes later, I got my food and went back home. Ok first, let's start with the Chicken Alfredo: creamy, the pasta was nicely done, and the chicken tasted fresh. Sometimes chicken tastes a little old, for lack of a better terms, at some places that claim 'authentic' Italian food, but at Palermo's, for this dish, it was perfect. Great dish. The Chicken Ravioli San Remo was beyond good!! The vegetables in the dish were so damn fresh that I was certain I was being punked. The ONLY complaint I have about this dish is that I didn't know that the dish was actually cheese ravioli instead of the stuffed chicken ravioli as I asked for. I didn't know this until I got home and started eating. This is why I am giving Palermo's four stars instead of five: despite the mistake, the dish was still excellent. As such, I would like to ask that they make sure that they are actually cooking what the carryout customers ask for. Some people won't want to come back out to get their order corrected. One last thing: though the food is great, it's a tad pricey. Even with the mistake, I would still go back because I am going to chalk the mistake up as an anomaly. This was an last minute dinner option due to Covid many restaurants closed early... we arrived for dinner and was seated promptly. We ordered a shrimp and chicken meal that came with asparagus soup that Lukewarm and a house salad that was very underwhelming. Beyond the friendliness of the ownership, the food is heads and tails above most any other Italian restaurants I've eaten at. While unsuspecting from the outside, the amazing food that rests inside the walls should make this one of the top eateries south of Chicago. Stuffed peppers are tremendous, pizza is simply better than other homemade pizzas, and their chicken dishes were great. Had a bad experience with them and will probably not order again. Ordered three family size/x-large pizzas for a get together. While I realize ordering delivery on Friday night can be hectic, we received two of our three pizzas well after an hour wait. Okay. The third pizza, the driver had no idea what happened to it. Umm..okay... One pizza of the two was cold. It was obviously sitting for a long time before it was delivered. The other was fine. Got the third pizza forty five minutes and a phone call later. Paid over 80 dollars to eat staggered dinner of pizza over the course of 2 + hours where 1 of 3 pizzas was on time AND done right. Ugh. Not worth it when there are so many other options around the area. read more

We had Esther as our server and she was lovely: attentive without interrupting and she took wonderful care of us. The food was delicious and the portions were generous, so we ended up with a lot to take home, which I love! We had an infant with us and they have the nice slings and were super accommodating. After reading the other recent reviews I feel it incredibly important to mention this as well: we were walk ins. I've never been and I didn't think about maybe needing a reservation. We were seated in 5 MINUTES. There's more thought that goes into restaurant seating than people think. Maybe they already decided on a table for you because the people at it paid the bill...but now those same people aren't getting up. Frustrating, but the restaurant isn't gonna kick them out. Or maybe the only table available seats 7 and there are 2 of you. It's a logistical thing and it isn't easy. I respect that. It's probably a lot harder when people are yelling at you in every direction and you're getting paid minimum wage to be a host at the age of 17... So all in all, great service, clean server's station from what I saw by the bathrooms, nice ambience, and yummy food! We will be back and I'll make a reservation next time now that I know the restaurant can get busy. (By the way...isn't it NICE to know the restaurant you like gets SO busy you need a reservation? We came here on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. It wasn't too busy when we first arrived, but the tables started to get full throughout our meal. Although the hostess said casual wear was ok, it looked like more fine dining fancy restaurant and had clothing restrictions for males. Water into fancy glass and fresh hot bread was automatically brought to the table, with Parmesan and olive oil already at the table. The waitress was nice and complimented our choice of appetizer: Sicilian combo shrimp and calamari ($8.95)= we agreed, this was delicious, more a fan of the shrimp!!! Our meals consisted of: Lasagna Rolenti ($7.95)= very rich and basically cheese and spinach, we were not a fan... Cappellini Cristina ($8.50)= angel hair pasta with tomatoes and seasoning, good flavor but nothing out of the ordinary, and Chicken San Remo($8.95)= bow tie pasta with a variety of other ingredients, best meal of the three. Service took a bit longer than we had hoped. Prices were very reasonable. Atmosphere was dark. Parking in the back lot was full, but we were lucky to find a spot. I used to LOVE Palermo's, but I had such a bad experience today. I called the carry out/delivery line to inquire about their gluten free entrees. I was told they aren't serving appetizers, only pizza. I tried again, asking about *entrees* and another woman told me they only have ONE gluten free entree-- pasta and broccoli. I haven't been to Palermos in years, but I've had many other entrées there that are gluten-free. Mind you I didn't ask exclusively about pasta entrées, but even so, they have other pasta dishes that are gluten-free. I asked her if they still serve orange roughy and advised that that should be gluten-free. She claimed she asked the chef and he told her pasta and broccoli was the ONLY GF entrée. She then advised that they're only serving pizzas now because the kitchen is very backed up. It's nearly 6 PM on a Saturday, and all you can get for carry out or delivery is a pizza? I asked to speak to a manager. I was told NO! They are too busy. She suggested I call late this evening to speak to a manager. I'm trying to order dinner now! Seriously, what has happened to Palermo's? Diners have a lot of choices and clearly Palermo's is no longer a good choice. read more

I ordered a stuffed cheese pizza. It came and well at first I was excited to try it since I usually order at a different location. Anyway we opened it and right on top of the pizza was a hair not to long blonde hair. Ok we where like ummmm so we pick up a piece from the other side it seemed to not be cooked well . There's nothing quite like deep dish pizza .... CHICAGO deep dish, and Palermo's does it to perfection. It's not one thing that stands out, but rather it's the whole package. From the rich tomato sauce that tastes like it's from scratch, to the abundance of toppings and the crust that's soft yet crunchy at the same time, my mouth is watering just thinking back on it. Spinach, garlic and mushrooms were the perfect trifecta of toppings, perfectly balanced with the sauce. It's extremely loud and busy on a Friday night. Hardly anywhere to park too, so take advantage of the complimentary valet parking. As for our service, it was OK. We had to wait a long time for our bill, even after our server brought us our boxed leftovers. But it didn't spoil our fantastic meal. read more

Been coming here off and on for decades. We made a trip here a few weeks ago for my birthday. Our server was Melissa and was a great waitress! I had a question about the wine and she offered to get me a small sample which then convinced me to order the Roscatto Sweet Red...INCREDIBLE! We had baked clams (Delicious) as well as stuffed sausage banana peppers (Tasty) I ordered the Lasagna Rolatini in Alfredo Sauce... it was stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese... OMG! This was INCREDIBLE!!!!! I will put this up against the traditional red sauce lasagna any day! For dessert we split a Terimasu...DECADENT! We also ordered a pizza to go...WOW! Their sweet sauce is the BOMB! Thanks to Melissa and of course the great food, my birthday was a good one! read more

Been wanting to try this place for a while. Wasn't impressed. From the burned calamari to the mediocre flavorless pizza. The cheese was decent but the ingredients either clashed or were just bland. Could not distinguish the sausage from the pepperoni. I'd stick to the Palermo's on 63rd. They have that "Original" flavor. read more

I work near Revival Food Hall and frequent restaurants that come and go especially the pizza spots. I haven't yet tried the food here At Palermo's 95th but I have on two separate occasions witnessed what I believe is the owner and his very short temper, it's quite frightening. The most recent incident I saw him throw a pen at a customer while cursing him out with extreme expletives!! Needless to say the customer never got what he ordered and the many of us that saw this behavior will not be supporting him. I don't understand how someone can be in customer service and act like this. read more

So, I ordered a large sausage and onion thin crust pizza on Friday evening at 5:41 PM CDT to be delivered. I saw on the website that it was 75 minutes and the girl I spoke with verified that information. I was like "OK, it is a Friday night, and I am sure they are busy" however my son was coming over right after work to help me with a few things and the 75 minutes would be fine. At 7:00 we sat down, expecting the pizza to be delivered any minute. We waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally, at 7:20 PM he left because he was hungry and there still was no pizza. At 7:25 PM I called and asked to speak with a manager. They transferred me to dispatch and I spoke with a gentleman who said my dinner would be there in 5 minutes. I hung up and the pizza was not delivered in 5 minutes. Or 10 minutes. Finally, at 7:45 PM, 20 minutes after my call, the pizza showed up. Cold. Over 2 hours! I reheated the pizza and ate. Then I called back to complain. I order from Palermo's on occasion because I like their pizza and am willing to pay the $28.25 plus delivery, tax and tip for a pizza. Now, this is the second time I've waiting about 2 hours for a Palermo's pizza. The first time I called to voice a complaint and they gave me a credit. Now this time, the dispatch manager decided to argue with me and tell me that I live in the furthest part of their delivery area (and how was I supposed to know this) and the girl who took my order should have said it would take longer than the 75 minutes. He would only give me a $20 credit, not even the price of a pizza. I felt like he was trying to make me feel like I was at fault for their 2 hour delivery time, their lack of communication and like I was trying to take advantage of Palermo's busy Friday night. He said they deliver 500 pizza's on a Friday night-I am only concerned about one. Very disappointing. read more

My grandparents used to order a Palermo's pizza every week and then order their pizzas for our family parties. It's been a tradition for as long as I can remember! But unfortunately the cost of their pizzas almost tripled in the past year. It's unreal. And while the costs have gone up, the quality has gone down. Makes me really sad because it's such a staple in my family. My grandparents now order pizzas elsewhere. If you're willing to pay as much as you would for 2 pizzas anywhere else for 1 pizza here. Then yeah get it! If not, there's many other pizza places around with the same quality and almost half the price. read more

We have been going to Palermo's for over 40 years and have enjoyed all of our meals. We have recommended this restaurant to many people over the last 40 years and have practically memorized the menu. Unfortunately, IF tonight was our FIRST visit to Palermo's, it would have been our LAST. When we arrived it was very crowded for a Thursday early evening. We had a reservation for 5:45 and, much to our surprise, we were seated immediately. That was the ONLY good thing about this experience. We arrived at 5:45 and finally had to flag down a waiter at 6:10 to ask him if he was our waiter. He, of course, was not. But he said he would send over our server "immediately". Ten minutes later, a young girl appeared. She was obviously less than thrilled to be working tonight. She took our order and disappeared for another 15 minutes. We finally got bread and water when our drinks arrived. My friend ordered a "SIDE" salad along with his entree, however he received a HUGE salad instead. When he questioned the waitress about the size of the salad she just replied "that's the salad" . We received our main courses and the waitress disappeared again. We managed to flag her down to ask for grated cheese. She brought over a cheese container that contained approximately 2 tablespoons of grated cheese. Even my 11 year old grand-daughter would have known that the amount of cheese that was in that container was NOT enough for THREE pasta dishes. Needless to say, we were unable to get anyone's attention for more cheese. Along with that, we were never asked if we wanted another drink, a cup of coffee, more bread, water, anything. Again we managed to flag down a different server who brought us our "to go" containers. When our waitress appeared again with the check, she then asked if we wanted dessert --- well by that time the answer was "NO" . Then when we reviewed the bill, the "SIDE" salad was $12.00 ---- obviously this was NOT a "side" salad. We didn't have a chance to discuss the bill with the waitress because she NEVER returned. We finally left the bill with our cash payment on the table and left. I have NEVER had such horrible service at Palermo's in the 40+ years I've been going there. Crazy how this place has gone from one of my favorites to one of the worst. Service was horrible. Even after asking the manager to help dig the waiter out from the poor service, he just walked away. Did not acknowledge my comments, didn't refill water or drinks and felt it was ok. Then I had to leave the mandatory 18% tip cause we were a party of 7. Shameful. Kind of liked going to Palermo's on 95th. Until tonight, I ordered my usual martini with blue cheese olives straight up. I was charged.75 for 2 blue cheese olives, and an extra $1.50 on top of the price of the martini because I ordered it straight up!! And a waiter mentioned if you want Ranch dressing on the side for your pizza..... another .75 charge. Talk about nickel and diming your customers!!!! It is like flying a really budget airline like "Spirit" and paying for EVERYTHING like carrying on your own bag and paying for water. But you know your buying on a budget airline. Palermo's is not a budget restaurant, but to me it is now. I have NEVER paid for olives nor having a martini straight up before..... anywhere. I 100% recommend for anyone to come here. It's my absolute favorite pizza on the Southside of Chicago. Yes Dave Portnoy only gave it a 6.8/10. Been eating their pizza for 45 years. The best pizza I ever had.!! But maybe I'm a little biased because I've been eating their pizza since I was four years old, it's what I grew up on. I ordered a medium sausage regular crust, fried calamari for an appetizer and the cream of chicken which I never got. The pizza was excellent and the fried calamari was good it would've been better if they brought the Calamari to the table hot.They were super busy and I understand ( still no excuse) but the soup is so good I was disappointed. That's why I only gave them four stars. Service wasn't that great, waitress hardly came to the table. We have gone to Palermo's for our entire lives. However, recently, the food delivered, whether full dinners or pizzas have been burnt, leathery and inedible. We have complained about this numerous times but the quality has not improved. Sad to say we can't recommend them any longer and will have to try somewhere else. Better order take-out!! Thank goodness ownership has kept control of their signature pizza recipe, though, their Italian hospitality has eroded with this current generation. Do not, I repeat, do not plan a large group (say 14) at this establishment. The front-end of the house has not been trained and the servers lack manners or respect for customers and quite frankly don't realize that they are hired to serve the customer. On a recent visit with friends from out of town, Palermo's was a central location for dinner and conversation. However, the server could not handle the multiple family orders (well only 4) in the group of 14. Drinks never came until asked for several times and groups received their orders at different times. When one of the customers in our party asked about taking their group's order, he was chastised for not asking the server. Well, I thought that was your job, sir! The front end manager was invisible and could not be found, however, the server complained loudly to fellow servers about how unhappy he was and what he did not agree with over something or other. Then, as we sat and finished our food and visited, several wait staff approached us several times, to the point of annoyance, wrap our food to go. Whew! Do not stand for this poor service and question this automatic tip for the group size. This tip was clearly not earned! Caldarones take notice! read more

Pizza is always good! Only reason I'm giving low stars because placing an order with the rude girl on the phone. I was trying to ask about the sausage & banana pepper app. Which she assured me was called sausage & peppers. It wasn't!( it's stuffed peppers) after picking up my order and looking at the container the girl rudely said I ordered it wrong after I tried to clarify what I wanted over the phone. Friend of mine ordered this and i got a chance to eat my favorite pizza in the city of Chicago...Its been a few years since ive had it...How I wish there was a Palermo's near me in Rogers Park where I live...For me this is my fav pizza anywhere...The sweet sauce and the well seasoned sausage is so tasty...Its hard for me to enjoy other pizzas in Chicago...I will be getting a car soon and one of the pleasures will be able to drive to the south side of Chicago to nab this pizza on a regular basis. read more

I'm writing to inform about my experience at this restaurant last night. This review is not based on the food, because we never got that far. After wanting to check this place out for a few years, my family and I finally stopped in. We arrived around 5:30pm to a packed house. We understood because we were walking in, our wait would be much longer compared to those who had reservations and everything smelled delicious so we were content with waiting for a table. Shortly before 6, we met a family of 3 who were waiting on a 6:30pm table and they boasted about the food and gave tips on what we should try when we finally got a table. However, around the same time, an older male who had been waiting at the bar, started complaining that he was hungry and demanded his family be seated even though he clearly stated he had a 7:30 reservation and was way too early for his time. More time passed and soon it was after 7pm. The older man kept coming up to the booth to complain about starving and demanding to be seated, however the 6:30 reservation families were still waiting on a table. Shockingly, the complainer got seated before those who had an earlier reservation and we could not believe it. Even the family who had boasted about the restaurant and had the earlier reservation said they were completely disgusted and wouldn't be returning anytime soon. My husband, who never gets mad at anything, asked for a manager to complain for the family with the earlier reservation and for us who had now been there about 2 hours just waiting. The manager lied to my husband about the guys reservation time and how long he had been waiting like we hadn't been there watching the whole situation unwind. He was also incredibly rude and unapologetic about the situation. That was the last straw for us and we left and enjoyed dinner somewhere else. It's really sad the lack of respect this establishment has for both its current customers and potential newcomers. We definitely won't be back nor are we likely to recommend anyone check it out. We will tell others about experience here and hopefully it will be a learning experience. read more

This has to be one of my favorite pizza places ever! Also, their pasta is amazing especially the one with shrimp. The appetizers were a hit! Must try the grilled shrimp with calamari and the asparagus. For pizzas, try the buffalo pizza, the sauce on the pizza is so good. I also have to talk about the amazing staff. Everyone that works there is super kind and caring and made you feel like you were family. The owner came around to see how we were doing and had the best convo with him. Literally cafeteria style food. The salad I literally out of a bag. The waiter recommend the lasagna I've the chicken parm and sword fish special. I went with the recommendation as I am from out of town and usually stay in the loop. This place is very crowded and busy, filled with neighborhood types. This place is NOT for people traveling looking for good Italian. This is a local trap. The average age of adults is well over 60. The families are probably only here because grandma or grandpa use to take the parents here. No this is not an old school Italian place, it's just not all that good. I truly want to like this place but Chicago has just too much to offer. Take a cab or uber and go to a place that had a bit more depth of flavors. And for god sake don't wait the 15 minutes. I dined alone on this business trip and had to sit in the dining area at a table as there is no eating in the bar. read more
