So after years of living here, I decided to try Walnut Creek's recent updates PanCoast Pizza. I was excited to try the entire menu, but being as it's a bit pricey, I stuck with my favorite pizza and buffalo wings. The interior is lovely and modern and still has a homey vibe. You can see the pizzaiolo (pizza maker) in full view, working his magic. There a few bistro tables and bar seating available throughout. Not a big place but a cozy, mom and pop feel. For the food: 18" pizza - To start customized pizzas, pick a cheese pizza and start with the toppings. I chose my favorites: Black olives Mushrooms Red onions Sweet sausage Hot sausage I have to admit that the sausage was tasty - but I was noticing that the onions weren't red, that I had chosen. It was overall an ok flavor, but the sauce was lacking to me, the cheese tasted ok, and the crust was pretty lackluster. Unfortunately I feel the cheese was very regular, one would find on a dominos pizza, and the crust, though thin and authentically baked in an oven, had absolutely no olive oil brushed on it - you can tell because it burned so easily, many yelpers agree with this one. I was saddened by this because I had such hopes for the pizza, especially for an 18" at $35. Buffalo wings - good sauce, can't really mess it up, and the wings were cooked fine, though, I prefer a little crunch to my wing, and a skin that isn't as malleable. This came with a ranch dip that tasted better than the wings. My total bill was around $53.00. I may come back to try the Stromboli but it may be awhile until I do. read more

PanCoast's pizzas travel as takeout really well. The crust it thin and chewy...toothy like a hand-made pasta. The tomato sauce is brightly flavorful and they offer probably 20 other topping options. While visiting Broadway Plaza, I drove past this little spot and decided to have lunch after some shopping. I ordered a slice of pizza and a salad, the young man suggested the lunch special which included a soda for less than $10! Now if that was me, I would've upscaled the deal and not offered the special. Any who, he was VERY accommodating and the food was delicious. You could really taste the flavor of the pizza, the crust was great, and on top of that the salad was FRESH! Definitely worth a 25 min drive. read more

Very good pizza. Excellent thin crust which was crisp, and the pizza I ordered had sweet sausage and garlic (maybe a little more sauce would be good). This is the closest thing to New York style pizza that I have had here in the central county. I thought it was a little expensive, but comparable with other pizza places here in Contra Costa County (or anywhere else in the Bay Area for that matter). Easy to order on their website and ready for pick-up when they tell you. Staff seemed friendly. Parking in front on the street is a little suspect (heavy traffic during peak traffic times) but the Las Lomas High School parking lot is right next door for parking during non-school hours to pick up your order. Good New York style thin crust pizza...in Walnut Creek! In you enter Walnut Creek from the south end, panCoast is the first eatery you will see. It is located next to the entrance of Las Lomas High School. The shop is super tiny, with only small four tables inside and a couple outside. It is the only New York style pizza joint that I know of between San Ramon and Concord. My friend and I wanted pizza by the slice for dinner last night and we decided to give panCoast a try. The place was quite busy when we arrived at around 8:00pm. The interior was pretty bright and decorated with New York related pictures. After a quick deliberation, we both ordered the $9 combo meal (a slice of pepperoni, garden salad, and a fountain drink). Our order was ready in less than 10 minutes. The pizza was served piping hot. The pizza crust was on point. It was light and crispy. The quality of the toppings was good. The grease from the pepperoni and cheese did not soak through the crust. With red pepper flakes, oregano, and Parmesan cheese added to the pizza, it was a quite a partito in the mouth! The garden salad (organic greens, carrot slices, diced cucumber, and cherry tomatoes) was fresh and came tossed with a dill ranch dressing. It definitely balanced out the greasiness of the pizza (at least in my mind :-P). If you don't like garden salad, Caesar salad is also available. From the owners to the workers, the entire staff was very friendly. One of the owners told me a lot of their customers are East Coast transplants. Be prepared to fork out some extra dough for their pizzas. Most of their large pizzas (18") are near the $30 range. If you are looking for a slice of New York style pizza, panCoast should be on your radar. I will definitely go back. Maybe I will see you there! BONUS MATERIAL: - Small private parking lot on site. I had an EXCELLENT experience at this pizzeria! If you have never had a stromboli, you can find one here, as a delicious alternative to pizza. From the moment that I walked in, a soft-spoken and kind employee named Furman greeted me at the door and then helped me with my order at the register. I was going to order a stromboli -- and I'd never had one before! Basically, it's a pizza that is rolled up like a giant burrito! First, I had to pick a size: either 12 inch or 18 inch. A 12 inch can feed a very hungry person (or two) and an 18 inch can feed more, depending on your portion sizes. He suggested that I get no more than 3 to 4 toppings so that the finished product wouldn't be soggy and he made great suggestions to fit my dietary needs. I settled on: Sweet Sausage, Black Olives, Green Bell Peppers, -- and Grilled Mushrooms (a GREAT suggestion by Furman : ) The stromboli was AMAZING! (My mouth is watering right now while I write this : ) And everyone who tried it also agreed that it was great! The cheese was soooo oooozy and tasty! The filling was perfect -- sausage was juicy and sweet and savory, peppers were crunchy, olives were fresh, and the mushrooms made it really flavorful. They had given me Ranch as a dipping sauce when they put the giant stromboli in the giant pizza box. The dipping sauce gave it an extra zing! When I had called ahead on the phone, they had told me that it would take 25 minutes to make the stromboli. However, it only took 15 minutes! While I waited for my stromboli to be made, I sat and read at one of the handful of tables in the small establishment. Customers who had pre-ordered came in for pick up and others ordered on the spot. Every time, the employees were courteous, friendly, and professional to each person in line. Thanks to the business owner for sending out a coupon as a mailer to locals. Otherwise, I would have never known that PanCoast Pizza makes strombolis nor would I have had the delightful opportunity to try one! read more

**For Delivery** It seems that I have a tendency to succumb to my pizza cravings any time I'm working until the wee hours of the morning, and usually by 1 or 2am the late night selections are limited to those pizza joints that are catered to the inebriated. THANKFULLY, B had already ordered the pizza before I started doing the "should I order a pizza dance" last night..which is SUPER SMART because this place closes at 10 on Fridays..AND we ended up working until about 2am. I used to love this place but .. I don't know anymore. The last 9 out of 10 times (literally - I kept track) we asked for the pizza to be cut into 8 slices and it wasn't. The usual apology would ensue which would come down to waiting another 20 minutes for another pie or taking a few dollars off for the mistake. A mistake that keeps happening for some reason. Also, it and they don't clean the pizza oven enough during operating hours as the bottoms of the pizza keeps having burnt bits of flour/meal making the slices slightly acrid tasting. I used to love this place but making a special request seemingly never gets honored and not enough oven clearing leaves the pizza lackluster. I'm saddened by this but this is California. Not wow, just good Beer: they always have some great beer on tap. A pint is $7.00, which is sort of the going rate. However, they serve it in a plastic cup. PLASTIC. Not a Glass, a plastic cup. That is a total deal breaker. Last straw: Ordered pizza to pick up. Pizza not on time so I had to wait and was again served beer in a plastic cup. Pizza came out with wrong toppings. Yummy! I ordered from here today for the first time. The pizza was awesome! I ordered a basic cheese and the White Cap! My kiddo loved the pizza. She kept going on and on about how she loved the crust. The White Cap was so delicious. The crust was perfectly crispy and thin. I ordered the spinach side salad which they forgot the fruit, so boo on that. The garlic knots were good too. I wish I had some marinara to dip them in because that would have made them even better. Great food, direct service....and a pizza chef with a beer and couple F bombs! PHILLY BABY! Found out the next night when we brought a group of 10 in for pizza, cheese steaks, garlic knots, hoagies, salads & more...that it was the owner there the night before bringing the full Philly experience. Having been to Philly, we were thankful for that. May not always be the best organized at the point of order....and looks a bit chaotic in the kitchen at times....but that is part of the Philly ambiance. The pepperoni here is really good like nothing you will have anywhere else and I eat slot of pizza, the olive oil on the salad is delicious. Don't have it delivered just go in and get it and eat it. Yea just can't get enough of this pepperoni if you get pepperoni you must get extra pepperoni because it's the best anywhere. The chopped salad is so good so crunchy and fresh with balsamic dressing if you eat it after the pizza and not before it's guaranteed no heartburn... I am sad to say that Pancoast Pizza has once again disappointed me with their service and product. Previously, I have had had bad experiences with their sandwiches, either getting a sandwich with very little cheese (on their philly cheese sandwiches, no less), or missing ingredients (veggies that were requested and not delivered). It's been disappointing but I wanted to give them (yet) another chance when we had some friends visit from out of town. I hyped the pizza and was even looking forward to giving the philly cheese another shot. However, when I arrived to pick up my order, the sandwich wasn't ready (it was on the receipt) and they seem confused about the status of the order ("where's the sandwich?" "What sandwich?"). When I expressed my disappointment, I got a "well, mistake's happen," response with a snarky tone. Yes, I understand mistakes happen, but that is a very poor response in a client services role. So I left without my sandwich - didn't want to make my guests wait and I was already frustrated - and went home with our pizzas, wings, and salad. When I arrived home and opened up one of our pizzas, a Hawaiian-style pizza, this is what we got: I think I could have counted the number of pineapple on two hands and they didn't even cover every slice. My kids, who love Hawaiian pizza, didn't touch it. To be fair, the other pizzas were fine, not great, but fine, as was the salad. Wings were average. As much as I want to support the local pizza place, there are enough pizza shops in the area that I won't have to go to Pancoast again. Sorry to say goodbye. read more
