NO FORTUNE COOKIES? We ordered from Panda Express explicitly to get fortune cookies. We asked the kids what they wanted for dinner and they said "fortune cookies!" My seven year old daughter said," daddy, I need new lucky numbers!!" So, we placed the order for delivery and on the app with "special instructions" I asked for four fortune cookies, please. When Door Dash arrived, my kids threw on their masks, ran to greet the delivery and asked excitedly, "Are there fortune cookies in there?!!" The delivery agent said there were probably 3-4. We got zero. The food was good, but the kids were disappointed in the end. How do they miss that when I put it in the special instructions? The request for fortune cookies was even printed out on the itemized receipt stapled to the delivery bags. I feel bad giving a one star review, but I also feel bad letting my kids down. You can't judge Panda for what it's not---authentic Chinese food. Panda is... PANDA! That being said, I think that this location is a cut above the rest. I go here when I'm craving "Chinese" food that happens to be fresh, HOT, and inexpensive. Since it's a newer restaurant, it's cleaner-looking and they display their ingredients in clear containers. The chef behind the counter is always stir-frying something in the wok whenever I go, and the food there doesn't look like it's been sitting there for days. Panda Express has really stepped their game up from their gross, soggy messes I remember from the mall. The entrees I stick with are the orange chicken (can't resist), szechuwan eggplant with tofu, and mushroom chicken. Of course I'd rather get a chow fun or dish from Mandarin Gourmet...but that's at least $10. A tasty two-entree togo box, with enough generic fried rice or chow mein at $6.51 is fine with me! read more

The employees are always friendly, competent and prompt. There are decent healthy food choices at Panda Express. It's good in a pinch. I have been at this location many times, some good and some not so good, but today was the worst. Empty pans of over cooked food (dry dishes with brown instead of green vegetables such as broccoli and green beans). Service was poor since I felt unwelcome and an inconvenience to them. No interaction unless you directly asked about something, even simple regular items like soy sauce. I chose the lest offensive looking items and was still disappointed in the lack of flavor and freshness. I have come back in the past because of other people, but next time I'll suggest another place to eat since there are plenty to choose from that are better. I love Panda Express and normally don't have any issues but came into this location today with my mom for lunch and the girl serving us was very rude. Her name was Yazmin. We came in and instantly she had an attitude. The restaurant was not busy so there was no excuse for the rude service she was putting out. I was very disappointed to come in here and have this lady disrespect my mother and myself. Her tone of voice and service was below par and did NOT make this location very appealing. We were nothing but smiles, I even asked her how her day has been in hopes she would realize she's got an attitude and lighten up a bit. When my mother went to grab the bag from her, she just dropped it and our food spilled. There was NO apology, my mother smiled and picked it all up herself while the woman just looked at her like she's an idiot. I was NOT impressed with this service today. The portions have been severely cut down (I would say about half of the normal). More than one customer ask about the portion sizes while I was eating my meal. Awful experience. So surprising since all other Panda Expresses offer consistent, quality results. This Panda in SLO was understaffed, the worker helping us was new and confused, there was no sweet & sour sauce available for the spring rolls, the soda machine blasted carbonated water. When we asked for a refund on the drink, the new worker didn't know how to process the refund on the register and had to summon the manager to help. The manager was in the back, came out to do the refund, then went right back to the back of the store. Why wasn't the manager on the front lines helping customers when the restaurant is understaffed? The three times I went into From Ranch Rd for take out 45 minutes before closing, most of the pans were empty & the pans that were there were not the food that was labeled. The first time I requested an entree that had an empty pan & was refused being made that entree. And it was not that they were out of the ingredients, but they did not want to do it even though they were open for another 45 minutes. I ordered from what little choices there was & left thinking the staff not friendly. The food was not good, either overcooked or had been sitting out too long & the portions smaller than usual. The second time I walked in, saw the pans mostly empty & mislabeled & left. The third time, I chose an entree that had a little portion left & the staff did offer to make more which I accepted, but the portions were smaller. I took a long break from Froom Ranch Rd. & started going to the Foothill Blvd. location Best Panda in SLO, friendly staff, has pans full; labeled properly & food is well portioned & tasty. I gave Froom Ranch Rd. another try recently because closer & again disappointed because of food not hot enough upon receipt, somewhat overcooked veggies & it appears a reduced portion size again. One positive about that order with this new COVID way of ordering & then having to walk around stores to get to the pick-up area, the wait was only 5 minutes. But from now on, I am driving further to the Foothill Blvd. Panda where the food, service & atmosphere is better. read more

Food is good, however they need to stop putting a second portion on your plate without asking. There is no way I could eat that much chicken. I refuse to pay for this, and will say something. As others have said, it is what it is. Panda is not "real Chinese Food" any more than Olive Garden is "real Italian Food". That being said, for what it is, it's decently appetizing. I've been to this location at least 10 times and have had differing experiences. Once I was flat out given the wrong food. Another time the server copped an attitude with me b/c I had to ask "what?" 3 times, between how fast he was speaking and the clatter and clang of the kitchen, I just couldn't hear him. I would say that sometimes in their zeal to provide fast service, they get into too much of a hurry, even what it's not warranted. Other times I've had very nice, well paced service, full of smiles and friendliness. I'd say overall they hit the mark more times than they miss it. read more
