Staff clueless. Guy taking orders walked away when other customers were waiting to order. Another person finally came up to counter to help. Drink machine was out, staff was aware but in no hurry to replace drinks instead just said they're having trouble with it today- well then say that before you charge people for drinks! The pain starts with the ordering experience. The espresso machine is close to the cashier and I couldn't hear her over the noise. I hear my name called, go to the counter to pick up my order, and there's a foot-long hot (well, sort of warmish) sandwich in one giant slab. Why wouldn't you cut it into smaller, easy to handle pieces? Or at least in half? Maybe they don't know how to use knives, since they don't actually cook anything here. I don't usually go to any Panera cafes unless it's really on my mind or the only place around mainly because I don't eat breakfast snacks or have coffee outside of home or office usually. Outside of their delicious sandwiches, soup and scones, I am not much familiar with Panera's menu. Can't remember when I last had any of that. Anyway, I came here to kill time while getting my car fixed. I was hungry. This place was semi busy. They had their staff attending to the customers as the customers came. I took a while to decide what I wanted as I was thoroughly browsing though their menu to decide what I exactly wanted. I decided on their new Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich on brioche bun and a medium hazelnut coffee. The sandwich came with the option of three sauce choices. Sweet Maple, Chipotle (something) or Basil Pesto. I went with Basil Pesto. The order processing took a little bit longer than usual as the cashier had some trouble inputting my request. But there was no problem. Once I got my cup for coffee, I went for their hazelnut pot but it was empty. The other coffee pots were either super low or empty as well. A gentleman before me tried to get the hazelnut coffee but the pot hadn't been refilled. He said, it has been out for about ten minutes. He then informed the manager to refill it and the other pots to which the manager got to right away. I didn't have problem with it as I didn't have to wait long or anything. However, the staff should have checked the pots given how busy it was in the cafe. My sandwich was ready just a few minutes later. It was prepared with the bacon missing on it. I informed the staff member behind the counter right away and they added the bacon right away and apologized for it. Okay, no problem! The sandwich looked fine but it was on the small side. Although, I think it's probably the standard size anywhere else you go to such places. It tasted good. I liked the Vermont white cheddar cheese the most. The bacon wasn't hot but it wasn't over or under cooked. So that's fine. The bun was soft and had griddle marks which I liked. The coffee was just okay/ average in taste. Nothing special. It had a mild hazelnut flavor and kinda tasted a bit watered down. Overall, I felt that the food and service were average (as in just the norm of any such places on a busy morning). Nothing bad or extra ordinarily good. I would go back to any Panera when in the mood for their sandwiches and soups (and maybe scones) but that's about it. read more

If you want bagels in Libertyville, you should go to Bagels By the Book located in the same strip mall. If you want coffee you should drive further north to Hansa. If you are looking for a place to hang out and chat over a mediocre bagel and ok coffee with unlimited refills, unless this store has its own policy on that, this is a good place. You can grab a corner seat with an outlet nearby and get some work done, too. The staff is usually very friendly. They have that going for them. read more

I owe my sanity to this particular Panera location - it carried me through my first two years of grad school, and until I moved to the city. I would literally set camp here for hours on end - on the weekends when they opened until they closed, and on the weekdays from whenever I got there until, again, closing. Food is, well, it's Panera! Not much to say, except maybe that it is pretty ordinary; the soups and the portobello panini are too salty for my taste, some of the specialty drinks I feel are a little too overpriced to be had daily. However, I really, really, REALLY like the whole grain bread - oh my Lord, I could practically live on that! (Until my body dies of malnutrition that is) The summer strawberry chicken salad plate is really, really good too, and it's too bad they don't have it year round. Though they probably hired and let go of people quite often, almost everyone was very, very nice to me, and those like me who practically lived there. The coffee, tea, and pop drinks are free-refills, so that definitely came in handy, as does the wireless internet, and the lack of evil stares some students get when they've been at coffee shops a little too long. Boo to them! Finally, I don't know if I should be saying this, but if you go there often enough, and they get to know you, dude, you get hooked up with lotsa goodies to boot! I loved Panera. My half sandwich and Cesar salad combination was taking longer than I expected to receive. I then noticed that my Cesar salad was being individually prepared fresh. I've been coming to this particular Panera location nearly every Saturday morning for two years. I go there for the spinach and bacon souffle and the light roast coffee. It doesn't get much better. My daughter and I get some quality time together here, and we really enjoy it. The staff is typically pretty good and accommodating. Sometimes I "reserve" my meal ahead of time because they sell out fast. Of the Panera locations I've been to, this one is the best. It is big, people are friendly, and it is comfortable. Food quality seems to be a notch above the rest. I wish that the staff did a better job relationship building. I'm sure they recognize me because I am there so frequently, and always ordering the same items, but they don't say or do anything to make me think they've ever seen me before. This is my neighborhood Panera which I've been going to for at least 15 years now. This location has had its share of ups and downs over the years but has improved significantly recently. This panera location seems to have a new General Manager who is always there, hands on, active and engaged. As a local who comes here frequently I have definitely noticed the upturn in service and wait time for food. The dining area is generally clean, comfortable and well lit. Men's bathroom really could use some help, things are yucky. For a while this location had become very bad, the service and wait times were so awful that I had walked out and seen others do the same. Very glad that things have changed at this location and it's once again a great place to go and meet friends or have a quiet lunch and get some work done. read more

One of the managers, Shannon, was inefficient and didn't take responsibility making sure her staff was focused. I used to like their Italian Combo sandwich, but the pathetic thing they serve now in its place (and for which you'll spend about ten dollars) is a crime against all things Italian: a shrimpy, puny helping of meat and cheese, overwhelmed with greens and barely visible between two hunks of Panera's vaunted bread, tasteless but for the giardiniera, or something, spread over the top.
