I never post reviews, but this demanded one. Don't even ask how much I spent for a couple pieces of lettuce on a rock hard piece of bread. Absolutely pathetic.

    Receipt

I am honestly kind of laughing cause I don't know if I'm just so stunned or upset. 16.31$ is hysterical for a small container of soup and a salad that is almost or the same size as my hand and a sweet tea. The container for dressing is enough for 2 pieces of lettuce. I should probably open up a Panera if people are paying for this. Is the price worth not having repeat customers? I'm not sure but I guess since I don't know is why I'm not an owner. Either way, I'll grab a salad and soup next time right next door at HEB. We all know the chicken and soup come in bags anyways. Why so much? Geez.

I ordered a chicken bacon flatbread. Without cilantro or bacon. That's not the issue, they made a totally different order, when I got home it was simply a marinara flatbread. No chicken lol the actual name of the flatbread. How do they not read what the order was? The person before me got major attitude from whoever was working behind the counter. I even gave a tip as I prepaid. And didn't even get the food I ordered Someone needs to get this location straightened out, seems like this is common for their staff based on all these reviews.

The food was phenomenal! Varenyki was the best I have ever had WOW. Borsch was really good, different than ones I had before (which were much heavier on beet root and made with beef ) but this one was amazing as well, I wish it was heavier on beet root but still the top 5 soups I have ever had! The pirozhuk was amazing, a fried dough filled with a mashed potato. Fluffy and delicious I would eat this every day of my life if I could. A definite "visit again" kind of place! This is a small restaurant with minimal seating and lovely decorations to reflect the Ukrainian culture. We ordered the: -Borsh (Chicken, cabbage, bell peppers, onions, carrots, potatoes. Topped with sour cream & cilantro) and the -Dumplings (Choice of chicken or lamb. Topped with cilantro, sesame seed mix, sour cream and red sauce) both about $14.00. We also ordered a -Kompot, cold (Boiled blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, apples. Served hot or cold) to share which was absolutely delicious. The portions are small but very savory and surprisingly filling. We really enjoyed the quiet and cozy atmosphere and plan to return again soon. Thanks for such delicious food ~LindaD

I ordered the crispy dumplings (pork) and spring rolls as appetizers, and the spicy noodle soup as my entree. My server came to take my order, and brought me the items as they were ready. The entree came out before the appetizers. The spicy noodle soup was spicy (as named) and it was good, but it was incredibly oily and the noodles were overcooked, so I didn't eat much of it. I would definitely recommend ordering this with rice, or taking it home and making your own. The dumplings and spring rolls were crispy, but nothing special. I did like the duck sauce they had -- I would have asked my server for more of it, but she was busy in the back or something, not sure. I wish she would've checked in on me a bit more during the visit so I could have gotten more napkins and sauce. The service was alright. I wish I would've gotten checked on a little bit more, but she was nice and helped me pack my noodles to go. Overall, this spot wasn't terrible, but if I had to choose, I'd probably try another place.

Update to first review below, rating updated from a 3 to a 5 star (drinks & bartender would get 10+…read morestars if we could rate that high): Saturday night: Went back for after dinner drinks at the Downstairs (a "speakeasy" throwback, look up the history of the place to see why). Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)
