My experience was much better the second time around so I'll add another star, but still no where near as good as the Port Orange location. My issue this time was that my bakery item was hard and dry despite what it looked like (hence why I chose it). Though it's in the parking lot of a Target shopping center, the complex is well maintained and the restaurant features a large patio out front with plenty of seating and a water fountain. Add in the landscaping and you may even forget you're in a parking lot. The counter staff is friendly and helpful and the two serve yourself areas (coffee & soda) are clean and orderly. I've been there mid afternoon on a weekday and found myself pleasantly surprised by the impressive bakery selection still available, all looking fresh and tempting. The soups, sandwiches and salads available range from foodie indulgences to healthy alternatives to the pizza and sub places also in the complex. Let's keep in mind, though, that this is corporate fast-casual, mass produced food, so when i say "foodie" I'm not implying gourmet. The ingredients are certainly a few steps above normal fast-casual restaurants, though I wouldn't expect local produce or anything of that nature. I was happy to see the introduction of hormone free organic chicken to some of their salad choices. The flavor combinations behind many of their dishes do mimic more independently operated restaurants that a "foodie" may be inclined to support. This is the 3 time iI've had this happen to me when i order a soup and they ask you what side do you i want i say bread. Of course THEY NEVER GIVE IT TO ME! I just got out of surgery and all i wanted was soup a grilled cheese and there bread i also ordered Mac and cheese. I've eaten ate this place maybe 5 times, because my daughter (12) loves the chicken soup and the sweets, and considering her age and food tastes, I understand her feelings. What I fail to grasp is the popularity of Panera. They offer nothing either unique or particularly good. I've had salads and sandwiches both of which were mostly meh. As far as a value I think it's a good deal overpriced for what you get. Add that to the fact that it is little more than a cafeteria, and I'd rather go to any of several in the area. My sentiments are apparently not wholly shared, but when I go out to eat, I don't want to stand in a line and fetch my own soda. And any lunch type place that serves circles of turkey just cannot rate any more than 2 stars, and I'm being generous because the girl likes the soup and sweets. read more

Every now and then I crave a soufflé and ignore the health factors. Stopped this am and there is no crowd at this location. Very pleasant to relax and eat to classical music. Panera is consistent, soufflé was hot and tasty and the team always asks if you have or want their reward program. Standard Panera fare, obviously. Have a good stock of fresh-baked cookies throughout the day. This location is fairly cramped--the counter where you pick up your order gets very crowded, the drink machine is in a high-traffic, tight corner. There isn't a ton of seating, and there are a lot of people who "camp out" here for hours so it seems even less. Tables/chairs are not consistently kept clean. The whole restaurant is rather dark. Ordered take out and when we got home found one person's meal missing. We ordered take out for convenience and were unable to go back all the way to get the missing food. When contacted the manager for this frustrating experience all she did was give us the money owed as if that was a favor on us. I ordered food for my family and when I arrived I saw my order behind the counter ready to be picked up. There were 3 employees chatting behind the counter in a corner and 1 at the register assisting another customer. Nobody acknowledged me waiting in line or tried to expedite the process. After I returned home I realized they didn't give me the child's grilled cheese but did give the yogurt side. I called and they said they could mail me a voucher or I could pick it up. I elected to pick it up since my family was starving. They asked how long until I was there and I said 15 minutes. Guess what, after 30 minutes it still wasn't ready!!! This always seems to be mine and my friends' chosen quick breakfast spot before heading out of town for any road trip . Service is always quick and friendly. If you have a Panera rewards card , make sure you have them swipe in case you have a freebie loaded on. They can also look up with your phone number. The spinach and artichoke soufflé is wonderful - light, flaky and filling. I always opt for the iced coffee and , here, you are able to serve yourself and sweeten to your liking and refills are free! Let me start off my first saying I normally Love Panera's, but not this one. I have had two very bad experiences here. I visited here early in the morning with my daughter and ordered the broccoli cheddar soup, It was obviously the leftovers from the night before and had been grossly watered down. You could actually see the separation of water/soup. It was so bad we could not eat it. On a separate occasion I noticed that there was a large swarm of fruit flies by the fountain drink machine, I alerted a worker and they seemed annoyed and said "again!". They went and cleaned out various parts of the machine that had obviously been neglected from cleaning! GROSS! I paid a visit to this location earlier today and had no problems! Me and my sister in law went to the counter to order a half dozen bagels and cream cheese which they had an amazing amount of bagels in stock so we ordered our half dozen each with a container of cream cheese each and was in and out with no problem. My sister in law also ordered broccoli cheese soup to go for her husbands lunch and it was ready by the time we were done paying for our bagels. I do notice the customers that eat at this location are VERY rude and think they are better than everyone else.. Relax people and take a chill pill lol.. I've always enjoyed food at Panera. I've been to other Panera locations and was always completely satisfied. I went to the Sanford Panera on Mother's Day and ordered my favorite sandwich, the Mediterranean Vegetable, only to find the sandwich was about half the size of what I'd always received. The Tomato bread slices were tiny by comparison to the other times I've ordered it. Also, one of my guests ordered a steak panini which offered two tiny steps of steak, barely visible in the bread. The flavor of our food was good, but with the prices higher and the food smaller, it didn't sit well. While that's pretty lame, the real problem there is why when someone asks for water would the cashier not just say, "sure, but we do charge $2.39 for it. We eat here quite often and the majority of the time it's great. The staff is also very friendly as well. We ordered online today for pick up and when we got home one of our sandwiches had a 2 inch long chicken bone in it. Not a big deal, I understand this can happen. When I called the store the manager refuted my claim and said it had to be gristle or fat. Well it wasn't, it was a bone and yes it "can" happen. In fairness I was ultimately offered a refund but the customer service experience was atrocious. I simply expected an apology and a little sympathy that our meal wasn't right and instead you called me a liar. Sorry Panera, you're not PERFECT. This isn't rocket science, next time apologize and give me my money back for the sandwich I couldn't eat. I wasn't asking for anything I wasn't entitled too. So, I was in the mood for some Panera today. Placed my order online, using the Rapid Pick-Up Service. My food was prepared and ready for pick-up as promised, but the quality of the sandwich was disappointing. The bread is really hard and stale. There's very little meat on it. For some unknown reason the two Panera Bread locations in the Sanford/Lake Mary area have been out of ham for about a week now. A discount should be offered if you don't have all ingredients that come on sandwiches. Please Panera Bread... Step it up! The quality of food offered is depreciating. read more
