Places with limited business hours always fascinate me, especially in this economy. And, Panini is no exception. Essentially open for lunch and not offering real dinner hours my ability to try this place has been limited. However, considering it has been in business for some time, I assumed it must be decent. Don't get me wrong, more power to the small business owner that can limit their hours and not bend to the every whim of the always fickle customer. This past weekend, the wife and the smallest rug rat accompanied me to Panini's. I went with the turkey and cranberry sando and the bride chose the chicken and pesto. Both come with chips, which makes everything better. I thought both sandwiches were good, not mind blowing but good. They were certainly tasty enough and the service was fine. However, nothing to really separate them from the noise of the hundreds of other lunch choices out there. Would I eat there again, certainly. Did this place make me a fan like Rocco's? Playing with Daisy and her ball earlier resulted in a minor spill that scraped one elbow 'to the white meat" as Bernie Mack would say, and the other elbow swollen. I was nice and hungry after that workout. Once I had her settled and asleep, I searched "sandwiches" in Long Beach and this place popped up. Cool. I'd driven past and knew exactly where it was. At nearly 2PM the lunch crowd seemed to be thinning. The place was clean and cute. The chalkboard overhead menu was informal and inviting, filled with delightful sandwich creations. I settled on the turkey and cranberry panini, which came with chips. Of course I got a salad for that late night snack attack. The sandwich was tasty, the chips were on the stale side. Nothing particular fascinating about this review. I will say that I came on a bad day for the waitress/checkout girl. She seemed to want to be anywhere else but at work today. I gave her a break, I know how that can be. I will be back to try something with goat cheese or proscuitto or pesto and regular sanwiches and I most definitely want the turkey and avocado next time. THE PLACE: It's a small cafe, definitely mom and pops feel but not the dingy dirty kind..but a nice homely cafe. parking lot is on the side with limited parking and it's on a pretty busy street..so parking may be a bitch. Can be easily losted as it's a bit past jack in the box on redondo. I had already eaten lunch today, but reading Rochelle's review made me so hungry I had to come down here and have a second lunch! The panini here are indeed awesome, and I agree with Alysia that the sandwiches here are better than RC's, though I like the panini at Aroma di Roma ever so slightly more. Like Vince said, there's not been a panino here that I haven't liked, and like Ruby said, the portions are pretty generous. Today I tried a veggie hummus & goat cheese panino - wow! The avocado and hummus and goat cheese blended together into this soft, wonderful sensation in my mouth. You can also get the sandwiches on a baguette instead of grilled panini-style if you like - one of these days I'm going to try the ham and swiss on a baguette. Ordered a Turkey Club Panini and Chicken Noodle Soup for pickup, paid an extra $1.25 to add avocado which I didn't get. Called to let them know and what I got on the other end of the line was an attitude that sounded like this, "Well what do you want us to do about it?" Not even an apology. BTW, the soup tasted and looked like canned Progresso Soup, the sandwich itself doesn't even compare to what I remembered it to be. I love their Panini's hence their prices =/ This place is located next to Jack and a boutique on PCH and Redondo and next door is a mechanic shop..the location isn't that "Prime" or you don't have an ocean view to be racking up prices like that Aside from that they have a Special for $7.95 I think it was and you get your choice of 3 selected Panini's and soup or salad or with chips I believe it was...drink is included...think it almost turned out to be $13 bucks for a panini, salad a sied and drink...it was good but the service was still very slow. Come prepared to spend a few extra bucks and don't be in a hurry when you come here...you'll def have to wait a while unless you go window shop next door while you wait. I'm going to be honest here. I have never been a fan of paninis. I've always thought of them as mediocre sandwiches that are smushed with grill lines. Nothing exciting. I found this place on yelp in search of a new place that I could try for lunch, and I'm glad I found it! It's a small place off of Redondo, and I never would have known it was there. I tried out online ordering through yelp for the first time, and it was super convenient. You just add whatever you want to eat to your "cart", and they even give you there option to add extras or type special notes. Then, you select what time you want to pick the food up and pay online. It was so simple, especially since I just needed to pick it up real quick to bring to a lunch date. When I came in, my order was ready to go and I just had to sign and leave. The restaurant itself was small but so nice with plenty of room for people to sit. The parking lot is a bit tight, but there were plenty of spots available when I went, which was during lunch hour. We ordered a turkey avocado panini and turkey cranberry panini - both delicious! The bread was not overly toasted, which is hard to get with paninis sometimes. Also, they had the perfect amount of ingredients so nothing was overpowering, not too much mustard, a generous amount of avocado - I was impressed! I'm full, I'm satisfied, and I just came from Panini's. Sure it's a couple dollars more than a Subway sandwich, but it's the best damn sandwich in town, that's for sure. Panini's is one of my favorite lunch spots in Long Beach. It's small and gets really crowded from 11 - 1, but it's most definitely worth it. The staff is incredibly nice, the place is clean, but best of all their Panini's rock. Today I had the ham and swiss... there was probably an inch of ham in the thing! Yummy! So many sandwich choices makes my head spin! Small and intimate...Panini's is definitely a hidden treasure in Long Beach. Walking in you immediately get the feeling that you just may be in a low key lunch spot in downtown Milan. And oh the music!!! Italian pop...Nek...Titsiano Ferro...love it! Now to the food. I have yet to have a panini or baguette sandwich that is less than perfect. Each grilled to perfection, is served with potato chips and pickled peppers. Try their assortment of salads too...my fave being the plain old garden with a beautiful balsamic. This is my first Yelp entry and it's because I couldn't resist just reading about Panini's! There really is no better place than paninis. They really know how to make their 'em yummy. Their portion is pretty good too. The parking lot is pretty small so beware. It's usually busy around lunch time so it's better to call in. If you''re not sure what to get, try their Turkey Avocado Panini. I always get that. I've recommended it to other friends and they like it too. I haven't met anybody who doesn't like a panini from Panini's so give it a try! Sent Hubby to pick up sandwiches for everybody--thought we should try this place since there's so many good reviews. In his words: "the sandwiches are good, but the cashier girl is $*&#(@'en STOOOPID." He agrees with Cidne W.'s review of the counter girl having a sullen attitude, and adds that there appears to be no life in her. He also noticed her making fun of another customer while the customer went to the bathroom. And to make matters worse, another couple, who ordered after Hubby, got their order BEFORE he did. All the counter girl could say was, "oops" in her sullen, lifeless attitude. After everyone tried the sandwiches, we agreed they're good--not the best--but good if you want a warm sandwich to fill you up. The kettle chips were on the stale side so next time we'll probably just get the sandwiches. And next time, Hubby said someone else will be getting the sandwiches--he doesn't want to see that counter girl again! UPDATE: I'm changing my 2-star rating to a 3-star rating. Like many of the other reviewers, I have driven by this place and never stopped. Apparently at 40mph I didn't notice the small parking lot to the immediate south of the tiny gourmet sandwich shop. The first thing I noticed when I walked was how warm it was inside. I am not about everyone else, but if the weather is about 79 degrees out; I would like to walk into a cooler restaurant (than the temperature outside) as it would be refreshing and inviting. The next thing I noticed were the cool chrome stool and pub tables. Nice touch - except for how dirty the tables were. Not the only were the tops of the table splattered with bread crumb; I was more astonished at the schmear patina of the chrome - it seemed like either a dirty towel was used to clean it or it was just filthy. Perhaps they just went through a lunch rush (it was about 3pm). Still it did not kill my appetite; I noticed a tuna panini (served with chips) and a mortadella and provolone panini. Nice. The sandwiches were ordered "to-go" and they run about $8 a piece - as I mentioned before, they include chips. The sandwiches had great crunchy texture without being greasy. Nicely toasted. Grill stripes nicely saluted as I took my bite; YUM, They boast all kinds of items on the menu that I probably will return and try. Pizzas, muffaletta, a caprese (sort) of panini; as well as a plethora of breakfast items. Nice. I look forward to going back and seeing clean tables, though. read more

My friend had the Prosciutto with Goat cheese panini and loved it. This is why you should eat here: 1. The panini was cooked perfectly. 2. I'm a HUGE fan of cheese, and the cheese was melted to perfection and just the right amount. 3. I wasn't expecting this, but they threw in artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, avocado, and I believe some pesto which made it so flavorful and scrumptious! 4. Good food, quick service. The only bummer was that I didn't think that they was that much food for how pricey it was. I loved the special lunch options and I also liked how I was greeted and felt like regular. The meat was delicious and the options are incredible! Seems like they have the most panin's I've seen in a long time. There were so many different, unique looking flavors and really different looking sandwiches, which I loved. I also thought the employees were cordial and went through the line really quick. The only reason why I don't travel there for lunch more often is the price. Yes, it's called paninis but they have salads as well. Came with a co-worker for lunch recently and wasn't even sure if they were open! But they were. So I got the strawberry fields salad (goat cheese, greens, balsamic, strawberries and pecans, yum). My salad came with some bread. Service was fine (well we were the only ones in there!). I have been by here a few times, though this is not one of my "Go-To" spots for lunch it isn't half bad. They do have some beautiful looking salads and the portion sizes are good for the price, and their paninis are good & ingredients are fresh but then again they are nothing to write home about. Great little lunch spot with fast and friendly service. I stop in here about once a week and it's been consistently great. I typically go for the lunch special which includes a full size varying panini, a bag of chips and a drink for about $10. Their salads and soups are also pretty good and they have a special with a half panini for the same price. I haven't tried the pastries yet but they look delicious. read more

Hands down this place is disgusting. I came here with my best friend while we were antique shopping, and I will never come back. First off, this place isn't kept clean. Most of the tables were dirty and there was trash on the floor. The place is full of flies that are sitting on the plastic ware, napkins, and straws which are put in buckets on the tables. We get to the counter and attempt to order breakfast and the counter girl replies "we can't do breakfast anymore." She informs me breakfast was over 7 min ago and were out of luck. I ask her politely if there's anything she can do to help us out, and she borderline shouts "NO! Everything has been put away!" Really? Is it that hard to ask the cook to make 2 eggs? Obviously it was since we weren't "allowed" to order breakfast. Heck it's not like she's cooking the eggs. We take another min to look at the limited menu and finally order something else. I got a caprese salad and my friend got a chicken panini. I watched my salad come out of a bag, drizzled with store bought balsamic, with exactly 5 pieces of "fresh" mozzarella. Needless to say it tasted horrible and was not worth $9!! My friend wasn't too thrilled about her sandwich either. My wife and I have been going to this place for almost 7 years- hands down and great place for lunch. The same two guys have been working there for as long as I can remember and they are the glue that makes this place what it is. They are always friendly and and provide outstanding service. The sandwiches and salads are fresh and the food is never disappointing. My only gripe about this place is that every so often we will be eating there and what appears to be the owners and their friends/ family will also be there. When they are, they are completely rude and obnoxious. Their kids are brats and they ruin the entire experience of this place just based upon their domineer.
