I go here often as it is really the only Mexican food place close to my house. It is a small hole in the wall kind of place. The food is good, but I think there is better in abq. I have had the taco salad, nachos, burrito and tacos so far. My favorite is the the taco salad it has green chile meat in a large taco shell topped with cheese lettuce tomatoes jalapeños, sour cream, guac and salsa. My all time favorite thing here though has to be their salsa. So yummy. The staff is friendly and attentive, but the prices are a bit outrageous for a small hole in the wall Mexican food joint-portions are on the bigger side though. Okay I had gone here before with a friend and I fell in love, so today I decided to take my dad for his birthday. It did not fail. The service both times was excellent and I felt so comfortable eating there and talking to the staff. Their food is sooooo good. It's hard to find a good Mexican restaurant in Albuquerque so I was happy to finally find a place that makes the best Mexican food. Their beans and rice are so good like my mom and abuelita and tias make. I recommend getting their chicken burritos or any burritos. You will leave with a full stomach. A cute homey little place. Nice and quiet/calm away from the crowds. I was in town for the balloon festival and the waitresses/hostess were super friendly and made the experience more enjoyable. Every time I'm in ABQ, I make sure to stop at Papa Nachos for some food. It is as good as it gets. Plus, any place that is pet friendly gets kudos in my book. They happily let us enjoy our meal on the covered patio with my pup. As far as the food, what can't I say about it. I could literally drink their salsa, it is that good. I always purchase extra to bring home. On one visit, I had their pork and green chili special. So tender and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. On another visit, I enjoyed the carne asada tacos, which were just as tender and flavorful. I'm also pretty crazy about refried beans, and the ones here are pretty quality. Service is always friendly, if sometimes a bit slow. However, the food is so good and made so thoughtfully, I don't mind. However when we received our order our chips were very stale, which was a surprise since they had just opened so we figured they would have been fresh. Personally the food did not have much flavor to me. I got the green chill rancheros. As recommended that the green chili was mostly suggested compared to the red. However, the green chili have little flavor and no heat. It tasted more like bell peppers. If your looking for a more Caribbean Mexican type of food that is not spicy, then this may be your place. Service is excellent when they are working. We love the tacos - especially the asada and shredded beef. They stuff the shells until they resemble oversized empanadas. The meat is flavorful and tender which makes their tacos delicious. It's topped with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. Ask for guacamole. It doesn't look like it would be enough but it is filling because they put a lot of meat. The taquitos were good but greasy. It comes with guacamole. The chile rellano was good. I got the last chile rellano so they may only have a limited amount for the day. Most meals come with beans and rice. I would recommend trying their tacos. I lived nearby for several years and drove by the dumpy looking little restaurant for too long. It's situated between a gas station and a self service car wash. I'm so glad we finally stopped in. The food is more Mexican than New Mexican. If you asked me to explain that I'd fumble on a about chile spiciness and white cheese with no clear answer but I stand fast. I ordered a chicharron and bean burrito and my wife ordered the "papa nachos". Both had excellent flavor and weren't too spicy. The service was excellent even though I'm pretty sure one person was servicing the whole restaurant. We will definitely be back to try more menu items and to hopefully get a margarita this time with dinner. read more

Okay, if you drive up I know what you're thinking. It's a total hole in the wall. But to be here during balloon fiesta and to not see ONE tourist here is a total feat my local friend met and exceeded. This place is snuggled in between a laundry mat and some other necessities but look past it and go try the food!!! This is one of our lunch go-to's. Expect decent service even when busy and just plainly, good food. The chili can be hot at times, but is so flavorful. I always ask for extra napkins to keep the sweat at bay. I've tried most everything there. The enchiladas are great. Just had a Tostada MUCHO with carne adovada and it filled the bill. Papa Nachos was recommended to me by a colleague and I am so happy I listened. In just one visit it earned its way into my regular rotation. I got the chicken and bean chimichanga smothered in red chile. It was very good. Not the best I have ever had, but the best I have had recently for sure. The sopaipilla with honey was delicious and still warm - even though it was the last thing I ate in my takeout order. I am assuming that the nachos are probably highly acclaimed due more to the toppings than the chips. The chips were nothing to write home about, but were good. The salsa was mild to medium in heat and had a nice flavor. I was incredibly impressed with the service we had there. We were greeted immediately and given time to look over the menus without feeling stressed before we placed a takeout order. When placing my order I was asked helpful questions about whether we preferred certain items on the side or not, and I was reminded that chips and salsa come as sides with our orders after I had mistakenly ordered an additional side of chips and salsa. Very friendly staff and a great experience overall. I did notice that they regularly close at 8PM. This isn't a big deal but I thought I would note it as we arrived around 7:45PM and could have very easily been let down. Honestly, just writing this review now has made me want Papa Nachos for dinner for the second night in a row. I will be going back. read more
