What an awesome surprise! So the story goes, we were leaving our Mount snow ski vacation and my 4 kids were excited for their last family meal. On the way out of Dover, every place was packed. They asked, "if we smell someone cooking cooking a good breakfast, can we stop in?" We all laughed. Well, that's how it all happened. I saw Papa Pete's on the map about 15 minutes away ( I think i could smell the scrumptious bacon) and told them that Kim, Jim and their 4 kids were on the way. The woman on the phone, as personable and friendly as ever, said "we will hold a table for ya kim & Jim!" We were personally welcomed into this tiny but oh so friendly venue and shortly thereafter quickly welcomed by the waitress and our unbelievable meals. Saying that we were all satisfied is an understatement! What a great way to end a vacation with warm, friendly people and some of the best food ever. All in all I don't feel like our meal lived up to the hype. I had the giant chocolate chip pancake which was 9.95, granted it was large but it didn't include any sides. For almost four dollars I could add a side of three sausage links. The pancake was a little over cooked and tough, for 9.95 it didn't include real maple syrup which was disappointing. Sausage was good but for three sausage links almost $4 is crazy overpriced!!! My husband had the French toast and a side of bacon, which also ended costing $14. He said the French toast was okay but nothing amazing. His bacon was thin and not very crispy. We got two glasses of orange juice which tasted cheap and watered down. When our bill came it ended up being $37!!!!!! Maybe our meal was just a fluke and not their usual standard of quality, a nearby table was raving about their omelettes, but for $37 I'm not willing to try again. Breakfast is supposed to be cheap! If I hadn't just worked the night shift I could have cooked my own breakfast that would have probably tasted better and had been cheaper. Our waitress was very friendly which is why I'm giving this place 3 stars. After tip our total was $42! My husband and I couldn't help but laugh, we almost didn't have enough cash and never would have imagined breakfast would cost this much!!! They do not take checks or credit. read more

Had a great meal at Papa Pete's last week. Came in for breakfast, had the Eggs Campbell (the eggs benedict with corned beef hash instead of ham). Huge portion that I couldn't finish, and lots of yummy homefries on the side. Very reasonably priced, and as I mentioned, huge portions. My husband had the eggs benedict with sausage patties and sausage gravy, can't remember the name of it. It was very good, too, but I thought mine was better. :) We'll be back, because I want to get my hands on one of those delicious-looking huge pancakes! read more

Friendly waitress, maybe it was the owner. She was particular about how I liked by eggs - they were perfect. Good food at a fair price.

Papa Pete's is the kind of place that, once you discover it, you want to shout from the rooftops about how delicious it is....but you're also a little hesitant because you don't want *your* booth to be full when you get there :) Simply, this is what a diner should be: the food is delicious, the staff is friendly and efficient, and even when it is busy you still feel very comfortable. The pancakes really are a star here - whether ordering the large ones that dwarf the rest of the table's choices, or stealing a silver dollar pancake off my toddler's plate, I find myself planning our next trip to Papa Pete's as we are walking to the car after breakfast. I've tried the biscuits and sausage gravy - the dish that makes or breaks a diner for me - and it was delicious. Savory sausage with yummy hints of fennel, light delicious biscuits - so very good. For the first time in a long time, I was able to enjoy this breakfast with out feeling completely weighed down and a little regretful afterward. My husband and I have had omelets, hash, turkey sandwiches...everything we've had here was served hot and perfectly cooked. Really, what more can you ask for? I'll tell you what: a mimosa. Nothing makes a Sunday morning a little more sunny like a pretty cocktail, served to you along with the remaining prosecco in it's little bottle & a tiny pitcher of orange juice. Two mimosas for the price of one? Don't mind if I do. Papa Pete's is definitely worth discovering. Just make sure a booth is open for me when I get there. read more

Wonderful fresh quality food. You must try the Italian Omelette. Big enough to share. The California eggs Benedict was so yummy.

On our way home to PA, we decided to stop by Papa Pete's. We ate there once last year and enjoyed it so much that we were looking forward to a repeat experience. We worried that we were showing up 10 minutes before close but were welcomed in by the world's happiest waitress (who confessed her happiness may be a direct correlation to working 10 days a month!). I ordered an egg white omelette with spinach mushrooms and cheese which not only was jam packed but was served with their awesome home fries. My boyfriend ordered the chicken salad wrap special with fries (also awesome and fresh). She brought his sandwich on toast and before saying a word, she immediately recognized it was supposed to be a wrap and swapped it out. Mind you, we were the last customers, they were cleaning up but never made us feel rushed. We chatted with the owner for a bit and she even offered to go cups of coffee. While the prices are a bit higher than an average diner, the food is not only delicious but fresh, the atmosphere is quaint, service is excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Husband and I stopped there for lunch on a recent hot Sunday afternoon. We saw quite a few cars in the parking lot and thought "this place must be good". We were seated at a very small table for two; the pleasant waitress gave us menus and we ordered coffee and tea. We heard another waitress say that if anyone comes in to tell them it'll take 20 minutes for their order to arrive because they were busy. We were not told that as we walked in. The waitress took our order - 2 paninis and we waited 23 minutes for our order to arrive. I really don't know why it took so long because most people were ordering breakfast food, which doesn't take that long to cook. A fly buzzed around our food and my husband was quite disgusted as he had to swat the fly away numerous times. We finished most of the meal and paid the bill and left as fast as we could. read more

Best food in Bennington!! Love the outdoor seating-- they allow dogs on there, which is perfect for us. Nothing fancy, just honest, good, well-priced food and beer that has NEVER disappointed. Always eat here at least once when we are in the area. I can't say enough good things about this place. GO EAT HERE. read more

Came on a Sunday a few weekends ago expecting to wait a bit. We were seated right away since we took a table outside. The table split a giant pancake which was tasty and it was a fun to have an appetizer equivalent at breakfast. The waitstaff was upfront about the fact that one of their cooks had not shown up for work that day, so wait times would be longer. Indeed we waited - about an hour from the time we sat down to when we got our food. On top of that, they were out of a few items, and the bacon was a disaster, as it was barely cooked, and shouldn't have left the kitchen. Not sure the big pancake gimmick makes up for all the other problems with this place - go to the Blue Benn instead. read more

I'm really surprised this place has 4 stars. I guess it's possible we hit it on a bad day. It's a small, homey diner style place with a friendly waitstaff, but the food was so disappointing I'm sorry we went. I ordered a tomato and cheddar omelette with toast and a side of bacon. 50 minutes later... yes 50... I get two pieces of white bread with butter... not toasted (the waitress noticed that nobody had toast and started sending it back but it was too late for me), there was not even a half slice of tomato on the omelette and the shredded cheese was tossed on top as an afterthought. The waitress told the cook that my side of bacon never came and he yelled into the main area that it was already on the plate... it clearly wasn't. Not a minute later my side of bacon comes out at the same time as the guy at the next table was served. We were both unhappy as the cook clearly just took half of his bacon and threw it on a dish for me. This was confirmed when an actual side of bacon arrived at another table and the difference in the amount was obvious. My girlfriend ordered the California style eggs benedict. The eggs were so runny and clear that she was afraid to eat it. We topped it all off with weak, flavorless coffee (by the way they had milk at the table, no cream). It ended up costing around $30 for sub-par food and a ridiculous wait. read more

$30 for two for breakfast, pretty pricey compared to red carpet or chefs hat, food tastes good and there is enough, but every time i eat there my stomach is upset the whole rest of the day and night and next day, maybe its the grease, tried a few things and always the same result. sadly there arent many choices in bennington and hoosic is a biit out of the way but the falls diner is ten times better, and we never get sick. read more

The breakfast is outstanding here! All of their food is homemade from fresh food. No frozen food here - they shop a few times a week which is amazing! The hash was delicious and so was the breakfast egg meal I had with the sausage gravy. The staff is super friendly and I highly recommend this place. I went there for the first time in April and can't wait to go back again for Memorial Day weekend. Next time I will get the giant pancake! read more
