Awesome breakfast menu. Known for humongous pancakes. I saw one being served, pizza style. It was probably 14" across! I had the generous 2-egg breakfast sandwich, served on a Kaiser roll, with choices of toppings. Bacon & cheddar was a great choice. Very friendly staff. I would go back. read more

This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant and I've been to this place before. There were no gluten free options, which is fine I can make due, but they had no sourdough and also were out of hash at noon and are open until 3pm. We only had an omelet, Benedict, tea and coffee and spent $35 on a small breakfast. The place is cash only, which it says NO WHERE and when I asked for an ATM it was broken. The waitress rushed us the entire time and made me feel like an idiot when I went to pay and I was the one treating my bf. Never going back again. read more

Really great home style Breakfast Spot. We drove by this charming little joint on our way to Woodford, VT for a low-key relaxing weekend. We noted it and made a point of stopping by there the next morning. As we walked in we were greeted by a friendly woman who seated us promptly. Our waitress, also very friendly, was not far behind her to take our drink order. The coffee is great and bottomless, and the menu has a whole bunch of enticing options. The wide array of Benedicts alone were worth glancing at the menu. My wife and I finally decided on the Biscuits & Gravy (homemade) and the special TexMex Omelette compete with jalepeños, sour cream, cheese, tomatoes and onions. Served both with a side of home fries and mine with rye toast, neither of us left hungry. The portions were filling and my wife took some of hers home in a takeaway container. We enjoyed it thoroughly and the decor is just adorable. Our only issue is that it is cash only, which isn't a problem because they advertised at the door having an ATM inside. However, upon completion of our meal, I went to utilize the said ATM only to find that it was out of service. So, I left my wife to sip her coffee while I drove about a mile down the road to the nearest Mobil Gas Station to use their ATM. Not a deal breaker of course, my only advice is to make sure that ATM is working when you boast a cash only establishment. read more

Taking a respite from my constant business travel, I did a "Mosey to Nowhere" day on an odd Tuesday, and found myself in Bennington VT. I really didn't feel like the trendy tourist-type places, and so was heading out of town to see what else was down the road. Suddenly two cheerful teenagers were waving like mad from the patio of a place called "Papa Pete's." They were earnest (and amusing) enough for me to turn around and try the place for lunch, after their repeated assurances that "the food is really REALLY good." Walk into this cozy little (and I mean LITTLE) joint, and it has everything country diners are supposed to: checked tablecloths, booths and a counter, homey photographs all over the walls and two crack waitresses who handle the place like they were born there. I was half expecting Joan Blondell, all hairspray, chewing gum and wisecracks, to come through the swinging doors from the kitchen -- it had that splendid kind of 1930s-hometown feel. The food, however, isn't nearly as old hat as all that. Papa Pete's has soups and salads and entrees to a modern taste, and breakfast all day -- I was encouraged to try the cheddar and apple omelette, but I was craving something lunch-ish, and ordered their chicken Waldorf wrap with french fries. The wrap concoction was average -- while the chunks of chicken were generous and very fresh, I would have done with less mayo and a lot more in the way of craisins and apples. But the french fries were superb, and none of your Texas wedges or fancy stuff, thank you -- these were proper french fries, very crisp, shoestring style. I'd have ordered seconds, but I really shouldn't even have indulged in firsts. And my glass of diet soda kept magically refilling itself when I didn't even notice. (The people and the service really are what make this place special.) My husband and I are contemplating a trip to Vermont for our anniversary in the fall, and I'll make sure to take him to Papa Pete's. Next time, however, I'll take the advice of one of the regulars, and try that delectable-sounding omelette combo. read more

Have been here for breakfast a couple of times. The food is very good. I have never had a bad breakfast. The popular items are the omlets and the over sized pancakes. The reason I give this place three stars is the rude people that wait on you. They are in your face city people that think it's funny to be rude and loud. I find it an unpleasant experience . If you are looking for Vermont friendly kind of service this is not the place. Food is good. Kind of like being in a god father movie that meets Rocky. I hope the owners rethink how they talk to customers. read more

I would say Papa Pete's is an interesting combination of upscale and redneck. This smaller restaurant's ambiance/appearance is most pleasant, with great big band music playing. We were greeted by a gracious, friendly hostess who also was waitress (possibly an owner?). A food allergy problem of one diner was handled happily and effectively. Food presentation (appearance) was great and the taste quite satisfactory although 'way too greasy. I cook, lots, and know that food can be grilled without that much grease. The coffee was average and an egg dish lacked that special taste of farm-fresh eggs. Other aspects I was not happy about include high prices and the fact that the advertised cash machine was not working - which definitely caused inconvenience as this restaurant does not accept either credit or debit cards. I didn't know the ATM wasn't working until I asked its location, by which time a limited-mobility person in the party was seated and would have been awkward to remove. During our meal, very loud, raucous, mocking male laughter coming from the kitchen was startling. I always find normal laughter an "upper" but this had an unpleasant, even threatening quality. read more

First, the breakfast was great, generous portions and served quickly and fresh. The pancakes were amazing, light and fluffy, many of us in our party agreed they were the best pancakes they've ever had. But the best was the owner Cathy, she's very friendly and paid attention to every table, treating everyone like family. We were a large party of eight showing up during a busy Sunday breakfast in March and couldn't be seated right away. We waited out on the cold deck and Cathy came out several times to check on us, serving coffee and chatting while we waited. Would NOT recommend. Waited well over 45 minutes for our food AFTER a substantial wait out on the patio before we got seated. Breakfast for 3 people was almost $60 and did not include maple syrup for the waffle. Food was decent but we could've made it better at home ourselves. Service was poor and instead of apologizing for the wait and for forgetting us (and never refilling our drinks) the waitress had the audacity to ask for a cash tip. read more

This place is super cute and the staff were nice but I think it's way overpriced for what it is. I was charged extra for "real" maple syrup without being told, but for being in VT I would hope they serve real maple syrup all the time and not charge extra. The Eggs Benedict uses frozen spinach which never tastes good to me (I realize not everyone agrees) and I also had to to pay $2 extra for avocado in my burrito and there really wasn't that much in it. Yelp lead us here while on a road trip and we are not disappointed! We sat outside on the deck (which is dog friendly) to enjoy the beautiful weather. As others have mentioned, the pancakes are enormous -- they're cooked on a pizza pan and served with a pizza cutter. I ordered one cinnamon-apple one; it wasn't particularly cinnamon-y or apple-y, nor was it very fluffy, but it was tasty and kept well. (I only ate 1/4 of it and we snacked on the rest during our drive.) Husband and I both got eggs Benedict which were quite good; he subbed out the meat for mushrooms on the California one and found it delicious, while I went for a standard Florentine. The spinach on mine was chopped, not full leaf, which makes me think it may have been frozen, but the taste was still nice and the hollandaise (house-made) is fantastic. Super friendly folk, too. Did the dumb thing and showed up here on a Sunday morning hungry. The wait was pretty long and service was pretty slow. Actually it was ridiculously slow even though they were busy. The lady who I think was the owner was really good at helping us pass the time which saved this review. The food was OKish for breakfast food (its really had to screw up eggs and pancakes). The local Vermont syrup was good. Next time I am in the area I probably wont come back because of the long wait and overpriced food. read more

Try the San Diego Benedict with smoked salmon! Amazing. Be advised though it's CASH ONLY. Their ATM currently charges $3.50/ withdrawal.

What can you say about a local joint that smokes its own salmon? YUMMY!!! Have never had a bad meal or anything served that was not as ordered and as expected but I have only been there for breakfast. And they even have a loyalty program. read more

Located just outside of the cozy town of Bennington Papa Pete's is the perfect stop for a soul-warming meal. I had the pleasure of visiting for breakfast just recently and as soon as you walk in the door you feel like a regular. The food itself is delicious, though perhaps a little under salted (better than over salted). I had the apple/cheddar omlet with sour dough bread (50 cents extra- they make sure to tell you that). After enjoying our food we stayed and talked over coffee and were never rushed out. When I'm back in the area I'll definitely keep Papa Pete's in mind. read more

Just stopped for breakfast on the way to NH. Had an amazing omelette--light, fluffy eggs w/VT cheddar. Home fries are deep fried, not pan fried. Toast is the grocery store variety. Hubby had the Campbell- eggs Benedict /homemade hash on an English muffin. Hollandaise also made on premises. 2 thumbs up and he's pretty fussy about eggs. Coffee and tea served hot by friendly waitstaff. Orders also served up quickly. An enjoyable meal! read more

Just ate here for the first time. It was absolutely wonderful! The breakfast prices may seem steep at first glance, but the value is plain when the plates arrive. Everything here is super fresh, from the homemade hollandaise sauce to the fresh corned beef hash. They even corn their own beef briskets! We live more than 3 hours away and we're already planning another trip to town just to eat at Pappa Pete's. It's well worth the time to be treated like family and have such an amazing and fresh meal! read more

A-mazing!! We had the stuffed french toast with cream cheese and Papa Pete's Egg Benedict with sausage gravy...wow... AWESOME! This place is a GEM!!! Sausage gravy is big down south where we live but this one was by far the BEST sausage gravy we ever had. This restaurant is super cute and the staff very sweet. I've passed by this shack a million times and finally stopped in thinking it would be a cheap place to grab a bite. Instead I was dumbfounded by the prices. I ordered a $13 sandwich and was told if I wanted it on a wrap that would cost me an additional $2. If you want real maple syrup with your pancakes, that will cost you an additional $2 as well even though this is friggin VT where maples syrup is served EVERYWHERE. We insisted..she said " you really do not want to wait". The waitress after telling us the specials asked if "do you really want to stay". Giant servings of greasy GREASY food, under cooked plate sized pancakes , when you hit the raw dough center you wonder why they bothered? we have tried this on a few days and if you can make it the next town without emergency stops for pepto bismol then you are either really lucky or have a cast iron stomach. the service is great, the seating ok, the place is dirty but not any worse than any other place in town, they all are dingy dirty places. the food, gastric distress is all that comes to mind, every time, maybe we just don't handle grease well. the cash only payment is annoying. and the prices VERY high for what you get. I'd pass on it if I were you and hit Dunkin Donuts, I really would, if you are heading west, keep going until you hit rt 22 in hoosac and head to the hoosic falls diner, another dingy place but the food will not make you sick, seriously , Pete's food has made us go to the ER, that's how badly our stomachs reacted to it, not once but twice and that is enough for us....never again. read more
