We got the hash and eggs special which was homemade corned beef hash topped with eggs, and the breakfast sandwich which was huge and the eggs benedict which was delicious. The mimosas were delicious but way too expensive. We each got one and 3 of them was $33. That was ridiculous but everything else was great. read more

Great service, great food! After a morning of antiquing we were starving, so I pulled up my trusty Yelp app for brunch recommendation. Papa Pete's was the highest rated. Cash only and on the outskirts of town, just how we like it! First of all, this. It is so rare for mimosas to be on the menu around here, this was a welcome treat! A simple breakfast burrito: egg, black beans, vermont white cheddar, and salsa. All totally fresh and delicious. The homefries were well seasoned ad made with onions. Both rare in Upstate NY. Usually our homefries are potatoes only with NO seasonings. My husband said this eggs benedict was the best. Fresh ham, good home fries, and paprika sprinkled on top. He ate this so fast it was gone before I had even made it 1/4 of the way through my breakfast burrito. Then my husband wanted to split pancakes and the waitress warned us that ordering ONE is more than enough for two people to share, and she wasn't kidding! Our blueberry pancake was served on a pizza platter WITH a pizza cutter and fresh Vermont Maple Syrup. For how large it was, I immediately thought it would be all show and no substance. But this was the most perfectly cooked pancake I have EVER had. Our waitress told us the chef makes these babies with ONE spatula. That is skill. Very cute local yokel diner. Cozy atmosphere (there was Christmas music playing and lots of tacky knick knacks decorating the place). Our waitress seemed to know almost everyone who came in and was your typical diner waitress (called everyone "honey/hun" and had a great sense of humor). The menu is very basic breakfast fare but I appreciated that they offered me real syrup (for a little extra). I got a giant pancake with bananas and my dad got an open faced breakfast sandwich with sausage gravy. Food was delish but a little pricey. Wait time was reasonable. This place takes credit cards. I was confused because they have signage everywhere that says "ATM inside." I would go again but if I was going to get the pancake I would definitely share it. I could only eat half! read more

The prices were outrageous for what you get. Nearly $2 per pancake extra to get chocolate chips. Vermont maple syrup was $2 for a tiny little container. Our bill (for two people!) for a pretty standard breakfast was $36. Waitress seemed to rush us and was in a bad mood. Stopped at Papa Pete's on our last day of vacation here in Vermont. I had one of the special's of the day - a Monte Cristo, served with a side of country potatoes. The sandwich was ok, but the potatoes were heavenly! My husband had the double loaded burger and raved about the flavor. It is huge!! Wait staff is great, very friendly. We went here for breakfast while visiting Bennington for the day. I had one of their specials, eggs with their homemade hash (comes with home fries & choice of toast) and it was delicious. My husband ordered their apple & cheddar omelet (Granny Smith apples & Vermont cheddar cheese), which also came with hone fries & choice of toast, and that was also delicious. Both of these meals were unique to this establishment and I'm so glad we tried them. They also offer more traditional eggs, omelets, and pancakes. It is a small restaurant (~ 6 booths along the sides, some tables in the middle, a few seats at the counter & few outside tables) and everyone there was very friendly. I highly recommend you take money elsewhere for something much better. All the food was bland, the eggs weren't cooked long enough, the hashbrowns were burnt. There was no signage that stated that cash was the only form of payment even though the owner insisted there was so we had to pay a $5 fee for using it, plus the $3 fee that my bank charges, which could have been avoided with proper signage. When we asked for a discount for the lack of signage and bad food, we were talked to with such disrespect, the owner said "that's what you get when you get home style food", "you shouldn't have came here if you wanted something different", and "my husband and cat just died, a I haven't been here", which is understandable but for your employees to not know how to keep a place in order is your fault. All the employees were in sweats and some were wearing flip flops. Bad management and bad food! Will not go again! I've also seen reviews that were bad and the owner accused the people of it being their fault why the service and food was bad. Again, bad management! read more

A disappointment. For a casual, out-of-the-way "hole in the wall" atmosphere, the prices were exceptionally high. Omelettes $10 and up. The "big pancake" was $10 unless you wanted to add something which was $1.50 per add and if you want maple syrup that'll be $1.85...for 2oz. If you like a lot of syrup, it'll be a lot more than that. So basically, for a single (albeit big) pancake, you could be into it for not much less than $20. Service was appropriate and timely. Driving from Bennington to Brattleboro and needed a place for breakfast. Papa Petes parking lot was full so we knew this would be the place on a cold Sunday morning. There were three couples waiting in the crowded vestibule (if you want to call it that) as tables opened opened up the waitress would come out and ask who is next. Everything moved quickly. We ended up with seats at the counter. I enjoy sitting at the counter when you really want to see the nitty gritty of the diner. How the staff interacts with each other and the local drama. The waitresses all complimented my wife on her pregnancy it was fun to hear from the group of women their joys and horror stories. They were sure we were going to have a boy. Breakfast was super as well. I knew since we were driving I had to finish my breakfast. Coffee was solid diner coffee, it was brewed throughout the time we were dining. She got the pancakes, and I an awesome omelet with the home made hash. We enjoyed all of our food and left energized to take on the day in Brattleboro. CASH ONLY! In an effort to be spontaneous we drove from Upstate New York to Papa Pete's. After yelping some where to go we scoped a 4 Star restaurant in Bennington and decided to try it. Yes it is divey but I'm good with that. Food was good but the service made it a 5 star visit. Thank you Michelle for making us feel welcome and giving me directions for some shopping in town. The service is excellent, foods is great, and they'll make pretty much anything you dream up. These are my niece and nephew, and Papa Pete's makes them feel like the rock stars they are. That alone is worth two stars. Nobody beats the pancakes though, they are huge and every time I have had them the have been cooked perfectly - the slightest crunch through the outer brown edge, perfectly moist and fluffy inside. Famous for their giant pancakes, Papa Pete's is a quaint roadside eatery and a definite stop among locals and tourists alike! The service was friendly with a down-home local vibe and the food arrived in a timely manner, hot and fresh! As stated above, I came for the giant pancakes and was not disappointed! The Pancake itself is about the size of a small pizza pie and can easily feed two (we could not finish the entire thing!) Along with the pancakes, we each had a combo dish of two eggs (any style), home fries, and two sausage links with two pieces of toast (choice of bread). We stopped by this nice cozy little diner for breakfast during our road trip. We ordered the blueberry pancakes, the San Diego Benedict, and some eggs with toast and home fries. The pancakes are huge as advertised, and were served on 14 inch pizza pans. They weren't particularly fluffy, but the blueberries inside the pancakes tasted fresh. I wouldn't come again just for the pancakes, but they were good enough. The San Diego Benedict was very good; the hollandaise sauce was creamy, but the dish was a bit light on the lox. It seems like the giant pancakes were the talking points of the restaurant heading in but the other dishes were good too. Overall, it was a slightly above average breakfast diner. read more

The best breakfast place in town and one of the top places to eat, period. Reasonably priced, warm and friendly staff and restaurant, and the food is AMAZING. The best eggs benedict I ever had. You got a lot of food for what you pay, too - and if you buy five meals, you get one free if you request a little card to keep track. It's a genuinely wonderful deal because there's no time restriction. I will say that not long ago a friend of mine got a very, very bad case of stomach sickness that involved much vomiting after eating the food here, but it was one time out of hundreds, and I'm inclined to say that it was just that one crazy fluke, and wouldn't hold it against the restaurant itself. All of my personal experiences here have been very, very good. Highly recommended! (And make sure to check out the pancakes, they are literally the size of pizzas and very epic). read more
