Definitely one of those places that's overhyped on Social Media. They completely ruined my Birthday. Definitely felt a racist vibe on several occasions. Asked to wait for a table because there was a "mishap" with my original reservation. They don't have enough staff who are trained in proper customer service, and just doesn't have enough staff period....bartenders seemed to have little experience as well.. Several different 2 to 3 top walk in groups were sat before me ( all non people of color ). On all social media platforms you see no people of color being advertised or marketed here. The restaurant also over books their reservation system leaving no room for any walk ins. Had people with reservations waiting for hours. Sat at the bar with my birthday group (all of us are of mixed descent or minorities) and once again, we were attended to last, while random people that walked up to the bar were served first, im still outraged by this! I should have recorded the whole ordeal. Only stayed because I paid for a party bus to pick my group up from there and didn't want to have my party of 10 randomly standing on the street for two hours. And let me not forget how I made a reservation and then was told last minute that I had to leave a deposit for whatever reason, when I was initially told two months prior that everything would be paid for at the restaurant. I gave this place two stars for the music and the hostess Danielle alone. Everything else about this place was subpar. I was invited for a birthday party there but due to some issues with the reservation on their end and our end, a table was not secured. If you make a reservation, make sure you select what kind of menu you'd like otherwise your reservation is going out the window. Danielle was phenomenal in the way she tried to assist the party and figure out what went wrong. The blonde manager, I assume she is the manager, is absolutely rude and lacks tremendous people skills. Not welcoming at all. We had asked if we could bring in a cake and we were told yes, just for the blonde to be overhead by customers yelling at her staff, threatening to fire them for allowing us to bring in the cake. I understand if a cake is not allowed and misinformation was given out, but to yell at your team in front of guests is just terrible management. Take it to the back of the house and maybe don't embarrass the people on your team. I will say that the blonde did try smoothing things over as time went on, finally getting us a table so for that I thank her but her attitude with her team is something I can't forget. We gave our drink order and our food order and then were only approached one other time to see if we needed anything else. Once we received our food and we finished eating we sat with the dishes in front of us for about a half hour until they finally came over to clean the plates out of the way only to just hand us the check, not even ASKING if we would like a dessert! We're there to celebrate a birthday and we don't even get asked if we want dessert? Let's start off by saying WOW! The establishment was very well thought out for sure! The second you walk in you almost forget you're in the city (which I loved). I tried this place out with a group of six, so we decided to try out several dishes from the branzino to the chicken not one dish disappointed. The servers are super attentive, and anticipate your needs which is always a breath of fresh air when dining. We did not get kicked out whatsoever after 2 hours and do not believe the staff would have the decency to do so after spending thousands this past evening. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and made sure we were never thirsty or needed something more. The bus boys cleaned up when needed as well. The food was delicious with no complaints. Food came on time, and thankfully they gave us a break in between appetizers & entrees. Only thing I'd say about this place that's slightly negative is it is on the pricier side for a place located on Macdougal street. You're surrounded by places like Off the wagon selling $5 beers and $5 shots but it makes plenty of sense based on what happens at Pappas and the high class feel you get when dining here. It's a great atmosphere and a great place to have a birthday. Belly dancer was phenomenal and enjoyed her company at our table multiple times. DJ was keeping the crowd going and yes it is loud which gives that club vibe. For those who had left a one star review, I believe is completing unfair to say. As a Greek myself I'm a harsh critic of Greek restaurants, but I can honestly say Pappas was amazing & definitely a new player in the NYC "party dinner" scene. It's the total package of great food, incredible service, and fun atmosphere. The DJ played great music that kept us bopping our heads and happy dancing in between bites of the delectable octopus and grilled squid appetizers. I can't rate zero stars but I would. I do not know where to start. We were seated an hour later than our reservation not in the main section with one seat in the area where they were grabbing silverware and glasses. We asked multiple times to be moved and they continued to tell us there were no tables available. Our table was a plastic table from Costco with a table cloth. Carlos was the only one who took care of us and checked on us after we were hit with the plates being served. The drinks were absolutely terrible and we had to send them back. We were then compensated with shots in plastic shot glasses. The tip was also already included in the bill. If you want to be treated poorly then come here. I have never had a worse experience in NY than this place. There are tons of other places to dine where you will have better service and drinks. My friends and I were treated like shit and were sat in the very back of the restaurant. I keep hearing Pappas is a "trending" restaurant but honestly I never heard of it until I went last night so not sure how popular it is. I don't think my friends and I fit in the weird crowd in this restaurant, considering everyone I walked by looked like a Russian mail order bride. My daughter had her 21st birthday dinner there on Saturday. She told the waitress that they were only 15 people instead of 17 which was the reservation for. The waitress told her it was OK that she wouldn't be charged for two people. When the bill came they were charged for 17 people at full price. They ordered drinks for the table and they brought out 17 shots they kept bringing drinks out with without the girls ordering them which they would charge for and the girls had to tell them to take them away that they didnt order them. My daughter paid $50 to bring her cake and have them cut it after they bought the cake out. The waitress told them that they're two hour was up and they had to leave the table without them even cutting the cake they did correct this by cutting the cake and let them eat it. This wasn't the real issue throughout the whole night there was a group of all the men that were hovering over them. Now these are 2021 and 22-year-old girls and these men were in their 50s bothering them. They informed the staff of the situation and the staff did absolutely nothing. One man got close and rubbed on one of the girls and she had to push them away and still the staff did absolutely nothing. After all this, the restaurant just went ahead and charge them gratuity after all this was done. I've been trying to get in touch with this Restaurant and the manager since Sunday and I haven't received anything. I've been trying to call the number which doesn't have a voicemail and nobody picks up and I've sent them three emails and I still haven't received anything, maybe this is the only way I could receive a feedback or callback from them. I will be given an update on what is going to be done because this is getting a little ridiculous. I would think that after telling them that these young girls will be in harassed by these grown men that something would have been done or maybe I would've got a response, but still nothing. Also, I forgot to add that when my daughter made the reservation they charged her $450 on her credit card for a down payment when the bill came they totally forgot about that 450 and charged the regular price until my daughter realized and had to inform them . Honestly, The food was soo amazing, we're already planning to return with a larger dinner party. Thank you to the chef for an amazing culinary experience. They have redeemed NY cuisine which has been sadly increasing in price and declining in taste, value and quality since COVID. The service, once received was excellent, but we were asked to move to accommodate larger parties, which wasn't an issue except we'd already been waiting awhile for service and had just gotten our water when we were moved and then had to wait another ten minutes for someone to serve us. Some bread and water would've been nice while waiting. However, once we were served, it was the best service with phenomenal food! We can't wait to return! Came here on a Sat night for my best friends 30th birthday. I was the one that told her we should try this place as my other friend told me it was great vibes.
