We stayed at a hotel while traveling due to bad weather and wanted delivery. Chose Pappo's because of the reviews and it DID NOT disappoint! It took awhile but the roads were terrible so I don't hold it against them. We got a cheese for the kids and a Lone Star BBQ Pork for the adults. The kids said the cheese was the best they had ever had! The BBQ pork was AMAZING. It was one of the best pizzas I've ever had - and this was delivery! I imagine it would be even better eating in! Pizza and beer. What could go wrong? Not here! I ordered the thin crust meat lovers and it was perfect. They have a really good selection of craft beer which is a hit with me. I'm here for lunch, prices are reasonable. When writing this, they only had craft type selections on tap. To me, great sign. Don't worry for the non-craft beer drinkers, they have a bottle for you and I don't mean that in a baby sense. I am not a local. I just stumbled onto this place by accident and I'm glad I did. Just stopped in tonight for our pie to go. When I opened the box it looked great. But was sadly disappointed when I took that first bite. The vegetables were bland, and ultra soft. Not much in way of spice or seasoning in the sauce. And the crust was soggy, and had a bit of a fish aftertaste "blah".... Also didn't mention about order personal pizza and get salad for free deal. So I found out when I received the bill which the same price as my other friend who order salad. We stopped in here tonight to grab some food that wasn't drive thru. i can say we probably should have just went through the drive thru. It was a total waste of our money. The Philly Cheesesteak hardly had any meat on it and was cold to the point that he didn't eat the bread. The goat salad dressing tasted soapy. The wings came out way after the rest of the food. To add to the not so good food the staff was more worried about their cell phones even the kitchen staff that you could clearly see. Won't be a place we revisit when we pass through again. read more

We have eaten here several times and it has been good food and very good service. They do a fantastic spinach salad and their thin crust pizza is a favorite of mine. Best news we have had lately is that Pappos is opening a new location on the south side so No more down town parking issues. In my own opinion Springfield is a wasteland of pizza places all lacking flavor and style.. except for maybe one.So when the team wanted to go to Pappos I was not overly thrilled. Pappos is in a cool, hip spot downtown .. which means old building with no parking. However the inside is pretty nice with a number of personal touches that make you feel at home.. or at least someones home. We all ordered pan pizzas and salads for lunch. There might have been 3 other tables with people who had eaten or were in the process of eating. This is important when I say it took 40 minutes for our salads to get to the table.My boss and I ordered the goat cheese dried cranberry salad.. hers with dressing on the side ( it had dressing all over it) and mine normal.At first I wasnt sure that the lemon maple dressing went with the remaining ingredients, then I woke up as if from a dream and found I was licking the bowl... it was really really good.. My hand tossed personal pizza was plenty for lunch and the crust was good but the fried eggplant I ordered as one of my toppings was still hard and needed to be fried a little more. We were not asked for dessert, not that we wanted any as the salads and pizza were filling, but it would have been nice to show some care as the service seemed lacking. In conclusion, I am looking forward to the new location as it is away from downtown and also a better level of service. As far as wasteland pizza goes this one was not half bad. read more

Pretty bad. The meatall sandwich: Wet mystery-meatballs (ugh) and badly burned marinara sauce.

The pizza we had was alright, but nothing special. The biggest issue was the garlic cheese bread we ordered. My guess is the cook put the garlic/butter combination on after the bread was placed in the oven and when we bit into the bread we got nothing but raw garlic. I really want to like Pappo's more than I do, but I never crave it like I crave other Springfield pizza joints. Like Melissa T. pointed out, I'm just not sure the pizzas are in agreeance with the prices attached. That being said, the salads at Pappo's are great, considering the salad norm at pizza places 'round these here parts is iceberg + ranch. I've tried most of them, but nothing beats the classic ceasar. No need to go into great detail about a ceasar salad, but it's a quality choice. Other than that, I've tried some different pizzas here, from the meat lovers' to the basic cheese, but it remains that none of them tickle my fancy the way, say, pizza House does. The sauce is light, the ingredients are good... It just doesn't click with me. Maybe it's just another one of those preferential things. Plus, getting the check and knowing you've spent $15 on a ceasar and 12" cheese pizza (no toppings!) is sort of a bummer. Basically, I like Pappo's and I like the aesthetic, but I never suggest it for an outing because a) it's too expensive for my pizza taste and b) I honestly can't figure out what stands out about it. Horrible experience! Used to be a favorite of mine until I went in for pizza and beer and waited 30 minutes for 1 beer, while my friend waited an hour for a beer. Saturday, June 12th about 8:00 pm used Yelp app to find this restaurant, ordered 2 large pizzas, 30 minute wait, went to pick up pizza, they stated they did not have an order under our name, therefore we did not get our pizza. Only two people were in the restaurant at the time of pick up. Very disappointing as we were from out of town and wanting to try a new restaurant. read more

Went there on a slow night. Chairs we were seated at were filthy and we had to flag a server down to wipe them clean. There was partially eaten pieces of pizza all over the floor. The table was half broken down and our drinks kept sliding to the edge of the table. One of our pizza orders was sent to the wrong table and doubled our wait time. The other pizza had meat in it still cold from the freezer and not all of the toppings were on it as described on the menu. We also ordered a sandwich. The sandwich was on a stale bun that tasted of freezer burn, the meat was not thoroughly cooked and it was not prepared anywhere close to the menu description. The beer was good, but the food was not worth it. Could have gotten better pizza for cheaper at Casey's gas station. Not worth the hassle of downtown Springfield to visit. read more

Kind of pricey for the quality of the pizzas in my opinion (if the Grotto was closer to downtown, I'd choose it over Pappos every time, but that's another story), and it takes like forever and stuff if you sit in at lunch. I almost gnawed off my arm while waiting for our pizzas. And to top things off, their 8 inch pizzas are more like 6.75inch pizzas. I think I've had personal pan pizzas from pizza hut that are bigger, and those are like...6 inches. It was perfectly adequate (perhaps that's even kind given that after I left I said, "I'm not going back unless someone else is paying,"), and I can't say much more than that. read more

So we decided as a family and with some friends to go to Pappo's pizza over the Christmas holiday. Needless to say that will be the last time we go back. While everything looked really good on the menu nothing translated to the plate that way. The toppings on the pizza were very tasty but the crust seemed frozen, very floury, and bland. After being told that this is the best pizza in town you can kind of understand why I would be a little concerned with the palates of others. To top it all off the service was bad the nine of us had finished our food before my wife received her pasta. Leading up to this when I asked about it I was given the brush off. And then when she finally did receive her pasta 5 minutes later somebody else tried to bring another bowl. It seemed very unorganized and a very tight space. The food is just not that good and very unimaginative. I guess to conclude I wish I would have just gotten a Papa John's Pizza or two, stayed home with my family, and watched a good movie on television. Good pizza and LOTS of choices. I liked the atmosphere, too! It's a great place for families or for a group of adult friends to hang out. They have thin and regular crust, although the regular crust is fairly thin as well. I got the kitchen sink pizza, which, as you can guess, has EVERYTHING on it. I had a favorite place in SF that had a pizza like that so I couldn't resist ordering it. It was not quite the same, but quite tasty all the same :). If I hadn't had so much whiskey the day before I would have ordered a beer and they looked like they had some good ones. Everyone was friendly, prices are decent and service was great. Second time ever coming here and we will not be back. I wouldn't advise choosing here with all the other options downtown. Very lazy staff on a Sunday afternoon. Came in and they currently had two tables, one already having food. We ordered our food the same time we ordered drinks. Waited 10 minutes for two waters and waited 45 minutes for two pizzas with a nearly empty restaurant. Our waitress did not check on us once or tell us why it was taking so long. Was busy chatting with the other server. By the time our food came out, we had to ask for the check and two boxes. The food is great, but maybe take it To-Go if you don't end up going somewhere else. I've never had anything at Pappo's that I didn't like. I've tried several of their pizzas and they were all delicious but hands down my favorite item they serve is their chicken carbonara pasta dish! Omg it was incredible. A creamy white sauce with chicken and bacon and just the right amount of garlic and seasoning. I mean it blew every other Italian place out of the water. It was about $10. The only thing stopping me from rating Pappo's a 5 is I do think the pizzas are a little bit pricey, but they are delicious! read more

As a local who has visited pappos several times, I am very disappointed with my service and all over experience. Our appetizers were not rang in by our server so they came after our pizza and had to box up. The server was completely oblivious to the beer list. We had to wait so long for our drinks that part of my group had to approach the bar. When they did so the girl at the bar took quite a bit of time to ask if they needed anything. The pizza and food is always on point. Just very sad with the service. read more
