Very large menu with plenty of food options to choose. Pleased with the drink menu and a very homey place. Families and couples plus a bar if you just need a night out! Server and hostess were great and the bartender got the drinks together quickly. Really enjoyed my meal as did my coworker. Pappy's has been around a long time. Their specialty is southern comfort food and they do it well. My favorite dishes include their fried shrimp and fried chicken strips. Servings are generous. Service and staff are always good. The prices are a bit higher than I typically like to pay, but the food is good. The ambiance is casual and homey. It's a good place to eat. read more

Very Chain-y BBQ and Steak Joint along the I-10 energy corridor. Once again I wish Yelp had half stars. Couldn't quite get to 4 stars here. Our family was in town for a short time, and passed Pappy's on our way to the hotel. There were 4 of us eating dinner on a Wednesday night around 8:00. Our waiter was Terry & he was FABULOUS! I don't believe that I have ever had a better waiter! Everything we ordered was superb! He even brought a sundae for the kids to split "because they were so good"! lol Our drinks were never empty & we never lacked for anything. The chicken strip meal that my son ordered was huge! The enchiladas that my husband ordered were on point! Literally everything was delicious. My kids wanted to go back for lunch the next day. I wanted to try something new tonight for lunch and read some of the reviews good and bad so I decided to stop by. I called first the young lady was friendly and helpful. When I arrived I was greeted upon entering and directed where to go for pickup my order wasn't ready. I waited about 5 min. My order was sit on a table instead of bringing it to me. Then when I got in my car I realized I didn't get my tea so I went back in and as I stood there for about 3min or so there was this white guy talking to some customers never acknowledged me until I asked him was he the manager and he said yes......I'm like I didn't get my tea so he went to the back and a young lady came out with the drink. I guess my gut told me to not tip for some reason I just didn't get a good vibe from the staff. The food was good very small portion for $18.......I am going to give a low rating because they didn't give me my tea and the manager just plum ignored me. The fish had a good taste the rice was good also the mashed potatoes and green beans had a good taste. Maybe I will go back again maybe for dine in to see how the staff services are rendered. It doesn't matter to me if it was busy it's called customer service and for me to be ignored by the manager is unacceptable. Needless to say I went back again about a hour ago same situation. Ms.Lauren asked me if I wanted a tea which I was assuming it was a courtesy because of the bad customer service I received last night and come to find out it wasn't. So I said you can take it off instead of her saying you can have the tea they took it back. I'm like wow. I will never step in that business again. Thanks. The best American food for this type of cuisine in Houston. I brought my parents here for the first time and they are very picky people does it matter if it's a fancy restaurant or not and they both loved it so much because they came back two days later. The catfish is so good! Everything here is really heavy so catfish is nice ! but it's done well not overly salty or buttery. I know what I'm coming to eat when I come here. First time visiting this place and worst food I have ever have. We ordered the fried mushrooms as appetizer, they were soggy and no flavor, and I mean no flavor at all. "Natural" orange juice was served full of ice and water added. The Laredo chicken was steamed chicken breast extremely salty with no flavor, no seasoning, no joy , steamed broccoli was overbooked and again extremely salty, oh and you can tell they heat it in the microwave because it was burning hot. My husbands fries were undercooked and chicken sandwich tested like hospital food (actually all Of our food tasted like hospital food). I'm so upset, this is the first time that I go to a restaurant where everything that we tasted was disappointing. Thought it was just a burger joint when I was told of it but this place is a must go especially if you are a fun of fried food and southern hospitality. Went on a business meeting and the portions are definitely texas size and very very affordable. Good range of different dishes for those that dont want to clog arteries with fried food also. Onion rings? Okay, only downside as they have the very small stringy onion rings but other than that very impressed by all. Good place for a family outing, business lunch or any occasion. When I think of comfort food, I think of chicken fried steak and mash potatoes with gravy...Pappy's had the exact dish that I was looking for! Chicken Fried Steak (4/5): huge steak with white gravy on top with mash potatoes and 2 slices of toast (soft and buttery). It was the perfect amount of cheesiness without overdoing it :) Texas Nachos (4/5): large portions of nachos with jalepenos, sour cream, queso, guacole, and pico. The difference between the Texas one and the Special one are the beans. Bourbon Babyback Ribs & Sausage (5/5): the soft and tender meat fell right off the bone with a smoky barbecue flavor -- don't forget to get the BBQ sauce on the side for dipping ;) Broccoli, Rice, & Cheese Casserole - very cheesy and the broccoli wasn't soggy or or mushy Cinnamon Apples: great if you just want something sweet but not enough to want to order a big dessert. This was the first time stopping in. Had dinner with a friend. We decided to order the scorpion tails (shrimp/jalapeño/cream cheese. Deep fried ) appetizer. They were spicy from the jalapeño but so good. We also ordered a bacon cheeseburger and a chicken fried steak. The buyer was quite good. The bun was a soft dense bread but very palatable. One piece of bacon was a bit chinchy. Good over all. The chicken fried steak was large. But it was not very flavorful. It needed seasoning or at least salt. The gravy was also bland. My friend thought it was "off". I just thought it was bland. The atmosphere was great. The bar was inviting. I'm not sure I'd go back. read more

Pappy's had some great service the day we were there. The hostess was very nice and joked with our party of four, so I think our waitress continued with how the hostess treated us. Waitress was very attentive and brought refills before our drinks were empty. I have the CFS, fries and creamed spinach, the CF steak was ok, the fries were good and spinach was ok. I haven't been to this new location since they moved from I10 and Campbell so the new restaurant is very nice. I would go back to try something else. read more
