OMG! Fresh Lasagna made daily! No frozen bricks made a month ago. Great ambiance, like eating in an Italian kitchen/family store. Hidden Gem in Fredr

Quick service Italian pasta shop in Fredericksburg! Things came out quick here and service was swift. They got a lot of pastas and ravioli options along with a wine menu. If you want to satisfy Italian flavor cravings - maybe this can help but overall they are not refined or exceptional dishes. We tried bruschetta, shrimp scampi, chicken parmesan, ceasar salad, ravioli and tiramisu for dessert. They do have free bread which tasted like supermarket white loaf - doughy smell and does not have a good crust 5/10 Bruschetta - better 7/10 shrimp scampi 6/10 - lots of garlic, watery and kind of bland. I can probably make this at home. Chicken parmesan - 7/10. Chicken was cooked well, pasta along with it was bland. Ravioli 6.5/10 - kinda bland too, cheesy. Tiramisu 7.5/10 - probably the best out of everything, it is made with whipped cream and not just egg yolks like the true Italian way if you care about that. Overall, they got potential but the food was not flavorful nor do they receive a lot of care to make it the right way.

Disclaimer: Good Italian in Texas hasn't been the easiest for us to find, and Fredericksburg certainly sets the expectation of moderate food to cater to tourists. Do not expect Michelin-rated pasta and Italian. The service is nice and quick. A bottle of seasoned olive oil (I think), a welcoming gesture. My expectations were low, but it wasn't until we got our food that I couldn't even find it in me to say it was even moderately good. It also didn't help that we literally saw a continuous use of the microwave, with something large wrapped in plastic heating up for an extended time. The eggplant parmesan was okay. The Pasta Bella plate (ziti, spinach, chicken, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes with an Alfredo sauce) was not okay. I don't know why it's necessary to have 1/2 cup of water/oil as a part of the dish. See pictures, as we did our best to drain the plate and still could not remove it all. Sorry y'all. I will not be recommending.

Wonderful little delicious hole in the wall Italian place. Located right off Main Street- giant portions and great service. We ordered the good good stuff! Get the savory items- skip the dessert- expensive and not very fresh. Other items- really incredible! Ask for the tomato cream as a sauce- yes!

Really enjoyed the fried artichoke appetizer and the chicken picatta. We came for an early dinner on a Saturday night and by the time we left there was a line out the door. Food came out pretty fast and service was great.

Came to Fredricksburg for the weekend and ate here Friday night. My husband is very picky, especially about Italian food. He loved the Alfredo so much we came back again on Saturday. I got the special on Friday which was great but I thought the chicken was dry. No worries. I just ate around it. On Saturday, I got the seafood ravioli which was really good. My husband got shrimp Alfredo again because he's a creature of habit. lol. We tried the calamari and the fried ravioli as appetizers. Both were good but I preferred the ravioli. There was a thirty minute wait both nights but all the restaurants had a wait from what I could see. I don't think any of them take reservations. Oh! And you can't beat a bottle of wine for only $32!

Made a to go order with no problem, the person over the phone was extremely nice! We walked to the restaurant and when we got there the food was ready! It was delicious and the portions were a good size, it came with bread and oil as well and was extremely delicious... Italian food done right! The place had a good crowd and seemed nice for a date night. Food is fresh and definitely made with love

If you go order two bowls of the Tuscan bean soup because it is amazing!1 I forgot our drinks. Hubs ordered the Fortunate Verde which was $17 dollars and very much over priced and a glass of the Rose which was mediocre at best. Our total bill was $80 before tip for appetizers and two drinks. I went with the chicken crust and Canadian bacon personal pizza and it was delicious! It could've been warmer, but I loved the flavor. It's great the way it is, and trying to make it fancy doesn't make it better. One of us had the schnitzel au gratin, which seemed more to be like a chicken Parmesan. I had the duck schnitzel. I would say they were just both OK. The fried potatoes that came with the au gratin schnitzel were left largely untouched on my companion's plate. There wasn't much flavor to my red cabbage, and my spaetzel seemed to be more like a modern day risotto. We had intended to stay for food, but instead we paid for the Prosecco my wife had already ordered and left. I am not a local and it took me 3 visits before I had an opportunity to dine in their restaurant. I have been to my fair share of fine dining establishments but Cabernet Grill operates with an attitude as if they are above and beyond anyone and everyone. They think they're the best and you'll be hard pressed to convince them otherwise. I have family that have dined in Cabernet Grill with friends and their experience was mixed. When a server pours wine, spills it on your shirt and doesn't offer as much as an apology you know you're in for a bumpy ride. My first attempt was denied because we were 30min late to our reservation due to unforeseen circumstances and were turned away immediately. My second attempt was denied because I had my small dog with me at Beckers Vineyards and went straight to our reservation at Cabernet Grill and were told absolutely no dogs allowed. Bear in mind they have an extensive patio area with tons of space that would certainly accommodate a certified emotional support animal. We were told absolutely not. I told my family to stay while I took my dog back to the hotel and the host said all parties must be present during the reservation time. If I were to leave our reservation would be pulled and we would not be allowed to dine in the restaurant. So we left. Fast forward my 3rd attempt and we finally were offered access after complying with all their rules and regulations. At this point one would assume if a restaurant exudes this much attitude from the get-go then surely the food must be the best I've ever experienced certainly the best in Fredericksburg. That could not be further from the truth. For starters they offer an item called Honey Butter Drop Biscuits. They intentionally separated that item into its own section so they could poke a jab towards a food critic from San Antonio by name! Who does that? I have personally never seen a restaurant go so far as to single handily call someone out by name in their own menu because they were not satisfied with their remarks. I would have never known who he was or that he did not approve of the biscuits had they not laid it out point blank for all their guests to see. They have a plethora of wine bottles displayed throughout the restaurant. None of these bottles are designed for consumption. Granted they have an extensive wine menu. However, It's a shame they have chosen to let all the bottles on display go bad just for presentation purposes. I took a light to the inside of some of the display bottles and it's clear they had all turned a long time ago. At this point I'm ordering their 14oz USDA Prime Ribeye and expecting it to blow me away. However, I grew hesitant when the server offered several sauce options to pair with my steak. If the steaks are truly that good a sauce is going to take away from the flavor profile. Yes, the presentation was spot on. Unfortunately the steak did in fact need the sauce. Forgive me for expecting a top quality dry aged ribeye with a buttery complex flavor profile. This was not that. In fact, I could go to my local HEB, pick-up a prepackaged Prime Ribeye and the result would have been the same. That said, the best item I consumed were the grilled vegetables and the rest of my table can concur. The flavor was spot on, the pairings were truly unique making it a standout option from the rest of the meal. Yes, the steak was cooked to perfection but you cannot treat your restaurant to a Michelin Star standard with that level of beef. Cabernet Grill would be so much better off without the excessive attitude and all the hurdles I had to jump through just for an opportunity to dine at the restaurant. Those hurdles create expectations that are simply not met which only results in a level of disappointment that encourages me to look for alternatives while sharing my experience with friends and family that know my recommendations will result in a positive drama free experience. I'm glad I was finally able to experience Cabernet Grill. I'm just sad it did not live up to the expectations because I was genuinely hoping it would. They could learn a thing or two from Mastro's in terms of hospitality and expectations.
