Came to Paradiso for a holiday dinner party. We were dressed up but I did see a lot of people dressed casual. I ordered the prime rib with a side of veggies and a baked potato. For the prime rib I ordered medium rare, and it was very tasty. For dessert, I ordered the affogato... all I'm gonna say is that I didn't leave a trace afterwards. I'm giving them 4 stars because seating is pretty cramped and my party did have to wait a few minutes to get seated but there's nowhere to wait besides standing next to other people who are eating or outside and it was raining that night. read more

No, you don't have to go to the city for an excellent meal, as I found out by going to Paradiso recently with my husband. The food was absolutely delicious- clam chowder, brussels sprouts, chicken picatta and seafood fettuccini. Finished with a seasonal made on site desert, pumpkin flan. Everything was fresh and not one complaint. Highly recommend! I would take off a half star as service was a little slow and it was cold inside. The server asked for our appetizer order without asking for our entree order. So we had to wait for the appetizers to come out and finish; then wait to order our entrees and wait for that. We live right across from Paradiso and love this place! It's packed every single night and I can see why people love it. It's upscale without being pretentious. The customer service here is outstanding. We went here one night and tried the clam chowder and lamb chops, both delicious. I requested them to be cut single instead of double rack since I like mine medium to medium well. They also do brunch on the weekends. The only con is this place is expensive, so I don't know why Yelp says it is only $$ when it should be $$$. Paradiso is one of the fanciest restaurants in San Leandro, and it's quite popular too. My partner and I came around 3PM-ish for a late lunch/super early dinner. It was one of those odd eating schedule days, but we wanted a bit of a fancier meal to celebrate a special occasion! Even at this time, there were still some groups either tidying up their late lunch or having an early dinner like us. I love how Paradiso is all decked out in Christmas decorations and music. It just makes for a festive, cozy vibe. Our server, Joann/Joanne, was super nice and started us off with some drinks. For appetizer, we opted for popular Dungeness Crab & Avocado, and a Filet Mignonnettes. I can see why the Dungeness Crab & Avocado is a popular item. It's just loaded with avocado and big chunks of crab meat, but between the two appetizers we ordered, I'll have to say that I liked the Filet Mignonnettes more. It's flavorful. The small chunks of filet mignons were tender and soft. Easy to chew. And the crostinis on the bottom soaked up so much of the sauce. We loved every bit of it and left the plate clean. To pair with our main entrees, we also got a Roasted Beet Salad. Everything was great about it and they even separated it into two plates knowing that we'll share it. The beets were juicy and salad was fresh. I only wish portion size was bigger for the price that was paid. For our main entrees, my partner got the Rigatoni Bolognese, while I got the Chicken Paradiso with sauce on the side. My partner loved his Rigatoni for how meaty it tasted even though it didn't look like there was much. It looked saucy and there was a good portion of pasta. As for my Chicken Paradiso, the sauce was delicious. I usually limit my intake of white creamy sauces because of dairy, but this one was just so tasty. I asked for sauce on the side, and they gave plenty. The sundried tomatoes in the sauce were my favorite because of how much flavor there is. I also liked how much veggies they gave. As for the chicken, they gave two large chicken breast. It was moist, and glazed with the sauce already. Super tasty, and filling. I ended up taking half of my meal home. Finally, dessert! We opted for the Dutch Apple Crisp. It comes with warm caramelized apples, a bit tart and sweet at the same time. The best part for me was the crumble. It was made with cinnamon walnut. So tasty! It also comes with Vanilla Bean gelato, which we opted for on the side since I can't take too much dairy. I did a taste test though and it was smooth and creamy. It made me wish there were better vegan Vanilla Bean ice creams out there, but unfortunately, I haven't found any yet. All in all, a very enjoyable dinner. Our interaction with our server, Joann/Joanne, was a very pleasant one. She checked on us from time to time, and was just a overall a really great host! Great energy, awesome smile, and kind. Short Version: Don't come here for Valentine's Day or maybe any other holiday. Why?: 15-20 mins to get seated WITH a reservation, 45-50 minutes between courses in a four course meal. We got dessert to go. Yes, this is with a Prix Fixe menu. Hands down the worst dining experience I've had in a little while, but let's place the blame where it belongs: Management. I'm not sure if you over booked, or understaffed or both. But, as a former restaurant manager: It showed. Maybe it was the second prix fixe menu with too many options. In any case, it resulted in a sub-par experience for my wife, myself and probably numerous other guests there. For those playing a long at home, one of the points of a prix fixe menu for a restaurant is to help keep things in the kitchen predictable, and things coming out at a consistent and predictable pace. This is not what happened that night. Our server was lovely and apologetic, as was the pony-tailed manager who was clearly very much in over his head, and I have no doubt the kitchen was doing its very best. I honestly imagine that kitchen looked like a war-zone, with some of the people there thinking about a new line of work. Management, I implore you to plan better in the future. I'd rather be disappointed with a smaller menu, or a denied reservation, than an hour between courses, a cold prime rib, and a dessert to go. (That, to be fair, was still amazing the next day) While I will never be back for a holiday, I do appreciate that I now have a story to tell my co-workers about how bafflingly bad this dinner was. Came here earlier tonight with a party of 6, with reservations. For 6 dishes and 2 glasses of wine, an automatic 18% gratuity (I think for party 6 size?) the total was $275. My personal order was a glass of pinot grigio ($16) and the linguini with fresh clams ($30). Pros: - Really good service, I was really impressed that the staff swapped out our almost-empty water pitchers quickly without asking, and the check and food came out in a timely manner. From the host to the servers to the people bussing our plates, everyone was really kind. I liked that they gave me an extra plate to put my clam shells in. - The wine was really tasty, paired well with the seafood. - Ambiance is nice, kind of what you would expect for a "fancier" mood lighting restaurant - Really broad menu (that actually kind of personally overwhelmed me), it has something for everyone even if you're not a big fan of seafood (there's pizza, pasta, steak, etc). - Cute date-night vibes - dim-lighting, multiple forks, there's a bar, etc. Cons: - parking can be tricky - I recommend parking in one of the side neighborhoods and walking over. - It can be tough to hear your whole party if you go with more than 4 people - I was at a rectangular table and I couldn't hear anybody talking on the other end since it was kind of loud Neutral: - Felt like the food was decent, but mid. It felt fresh, but both quality and quantity felt like it could be slightly better for the price (or maybe I just ordered the wrong thing). Nothing about it made it not tasty, but the price kind of made me think it would taste phenomenal. Overall, I think it's probably the best Italian food you'll get near San Leandro; I think the next closest similar restaurant is Trabocco in Alameda. Overall, very decent food if you're craving Italian food in the area. However I didn't feel like it was the biggest bang for my buck, might be a place I come once a year or less. It was my third time going here. It's a nice restaurant with a nice ambiance. The only thing is parking is not the greatest. It can be a bit of a headache trying to look for parking. Their food never disappoints. Their prime rib is a popular one to order. Apparently it's delicious. I ordered their salmon, and it was very good. We also ordered two bottles of wine. One from Portugal and the other one from Italy. Those two wines were smooth and very good. I posted a picture of the wine from Italy, if anyone is interested with trying it out. I totally recommend it. I also recommend their creme brûlée. It's delicious. Service was very good. No complaints at all. Our waiter did a good job considering we had a big group. Came here to meet with a couple of friends on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Parking was somewhat difficult to find. There was limited space behind the restaurant and it was full. After circling the block twice, was able to find street parking on a residential street. I am new to this area so not sure if there was public parking nearby since I did not see any signs. The warm ambience inside was very nice considering it was wet and cold outside. The place had an open kitchen and the high ceiling and bright interior was really pleasant. The host walked me to the table where one of my friends was waiting. There was complimentary bread and balsamic vinegar and olive oil. We ordered the Dungeness Crab and Avocado to start. It was generous pieces of crab with smashed avocado topped with some spring mix and slices of orange and grapefruit with a citrus drizzle. I had the Petrale Sole for my entree. The sauteed baby spinach and mashed potatoes went very well with the generous portion of fish in this caper brown butter sauce. Don't get deterred by the pricey food selections, I guarantee that it's so worth the money you pay. Our server was very polite and accommodating. Oh wow, can't believe I never done a review here. One of my favorite restaurants. Its s really a 5 star establishment. I order the same thing every time. Chicken Paradiso, calamari and garlic prawns. All the appetizers are top-notch. for some reason today my chicken Paradiso was way off beat. It was done totally different as if they change the recipe or the cook. This is the first time we ever had to ask for salt and pepper. At least three of our meals were lacking season. They don't offer bread anymore unless you order it. I hate to see one of my favorite places changing. It was so different today. We left food on our plates today which is unusual. My friend ordered a beet chicken salad that look really good. She took two bites and left the rest. The beets taste like they've been soaked in really strong vinaigrette for days. I know, sometimes things change but please make sure the cooks are on the same page. I was so ready for my meal today as soon as I seen it, I knew something was different. The plates are not cheap so you guys really need to bring the bread back. That was a really nice perk added to your meal. I'm not giving up on this place but after so many years I think it's time to change my meal. Maybe pizza or just appetizers next time. I still love this place. Both times we had two people so we were seated in a corner by the wall, same spot both times. I would have like the window table, at least I won't feel so constrained. This place is a San Leandro staple. One of the best restaurants in the city. Food is great and part of the menu changes with the seasons. Service is wonderful with polite and helpful staff. The ambiance is nice with spacious seating. Today my only gripe is there were gnats or fruit flies, not a lot but enough where it bothered the eating experience. It's not always like this, I've been here more than a few times and today was the only time I experienced it. Had the eggs Benedict with the black forest ham and it very tasty. It was a Saturday afternoon and the back door was locked. When I asked a kitchen staff person to let us in, he said we had to go around to the front door. I don't usually callout individuals unless they really go over and above. Erin did just that. I am known for having fun and sometimes not able to control what falls out of my mouth. Most people take it as play, some get offended even though it was never meant to be offensive. Erin on the other hand was a one of a kind. Never lost her smile and played back. I highly recommend asking for her to be your server if you make a reservation, you will not regret it. I've been a long-time customer of Paradiso in San Leandro and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere, which is why this visit was especially disappointing. The food was good as usual, but the service was not. Our server barely attended to our table--we waited far too long for check-ins and had to flag someone down more than once. Given that an automatic 18% gratuity was added, the level of service was simply not warranted. As someone who has frequented this restaurant over the years, I expect better consistency in service. I hope this was an off night, but after this experience, I may have to reconsider visiting anytime soon. read more

But, when an owner of an establishment who takes the time to come to the phone & who has little to no time to listen & deal with a problematic situation, then the problem is of an even larger concern. . It would seem that an owner' should have a bit more tact when answering the phone, regardless of just how busy she thinks she is, Maybe take the call to a private office where one can best listen & understand just what the problem is before brushing a person rather abruptly, seems like a much better alternative. The hostess (Tessa) talks so fast that you can barely decipher what she's saying & then gets upset when you ask to speak with a manager. What a crazy place! Returning home from the airport, we wanted to try something different. My boyfriend found the Paradisio restaurant on Yelp, so we decided that if we quickly found parking, then it was meant to be. We arrived at the restaurant and there was a large parking spot in front that was perfect for us. We walked into the restaurant, and my boyfriend made a remark to the wait staff that it looks pretty busy. They responded that it was Thursday and it just so happened to be their slowest night which was great for us, we were super hungry. We ordered the Frutti de Mare with linguine, the oven, baked ravioli, the rigatoni, Bolognese, and calamari Fritti. Everything was very delicious, my boyfriend loves cioppino, and the fruitti de mare was a larger portion of that with several large pieces of delicious sea creatures! His mom loved the rigatoni Bolognese and I was so happy with the oven baked ravioli because it looks like a small portion but I ate two raviolis and I was super full which is nice because I got to take the bus home for my lunch for the next day. I visited Paradiso this past Friday with a group of four to celebrate my boyfriend's cousin's birthday. We were seated right away, and the staff initially made us feel welcomed, but the overall experience quickly went downhill. The atmosphere was pleasant, but the service was inconsistent. Our waiter was polite but not very attentive, he disappeared for long periods, which made it difficult to get what we needed. We started with a bottle of wine, which was decent but nothing memorable. For appetizers, we ordered two servings of crispy calamari, and unfortunately, both were disappointing. They were extremely greasy, to the point where the coating slid right off, and they lacked flavor. To make matters worse, we found a hair in one of the dishes. The waiter took the plate back, and a few minutes later a staff member came over to apologize. She said they would replace the calamari and that we wouldn't be charged for it. While we appreciated that, the replacement dish still wasn't good. For our main course, we ordered filet mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The dish was underwhelming and bland, lacking any real flavor. When the bill arrived, we noticed we were incorrectly charged for three orders of calamari instead of one, which added to the frustration. Overall, the experience was disappointing, especially for a special occasion. The restaurant is overpriced for the quality of food and service provided, and unfortunately, I will not be returning. read more
