The restaurant/market is located in Little Saigon, and looks unassuming from the outside. After hearing about their banh mi, I've been wanting to try this place for a while! I ordered the #1 Classic banh mi, which comes with cold cuts and all the usual toppings. The bread is great quality with the perfect texture and bite. The sandwiches are well-portioned (one half was enough to fill me up, and I am saving half for later). I also ordered a Vietnamese coffee on the side, which was especially flavorful (great for those who like a sweet coffee). The pork buns from the fridge looked legit, so I took some to-go. The Good: CRISPY PORK BELLY BANH MI. It just changed my life. There's 2 kinds of people in this world: the people who like crispy baguette banh mis, or the people who like French roll banh mis. Paris baguette does the former, and I AM HERE FOR IT! It's not hard, IMHO. Sounds like it varies by the day/time though, how fresh your baguette is. I wanna say the last time, my banh mi was just OK. But today, today's banh mi was FIRE. The crispy pork belly was crispy, tender and fatty in all the right places. The baguette was crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The pickled veggies provided the right amount of crunch, acidity, and freshness to offset the fatty pork belly. All the ingredients were to ratio, too (which, I am super picky about when it comes to banh mi). Also, I only ended up here bc I went to 3 other shops/stores, and I couldn't find the Bánh lọt (green tapioca noodles in coconut milk) dessert that my 8-month preggo self was craving, so I was super happy to find it here! I don't like overly sweet, but this definitely needed more sugar. Easy fix. Otherwise, the texture was good; it comes with grass jelly on the bottom, and they will ask if you want to add ice, which I recommend. The Bad: CASH/VENMO ONLY. The Ugly: Parking is terrible. If you can swing it, try to park backwards into an open stall, if there are any when you get there. It's a very narrow parking lot, that is overcrowded. I've come here on a few occasions for different things but what brings me back is the Banh Mi sandwiches. My favorite is the Banh Mi Thit Nuong which is the grilled pork. It's perfectly sweet and tangy and juicy and the sandwich doesn't feel dry which is an important thing. The sandwich pairs perfectly with a nice iced Vietnamese coffee which I didn't grab this most recent time but is a classic combo for an on-the-go Vietnamese meal. Saw this place on social media and was very intrigued and decided to give it a shot. Let me just say that their social media person does a good job because this was highly disappointing in person. The only thing saving this from being a 1 star review is the bahn mi, but that wasn't even that good either. The place itself isn't in the best location. Parking lot is super tight that you have the pull over for cars to pass and the parking spots are so small that its hard to avoid not parking into another spot. Lots of potholes in the lot too so not good for lower cars. The bakery itself was ok. Nothing bad. It was clean and simple. But don't expect to sit and lounge with friends, there's no seats. Service was okay. They prefer cash only but there are options for venmo and zelle. Staff was kind of forgetful and it doesn't help that they don't do receipts. We ordered a baguette and they didn't give it to us, so when I went up again to get it, they insisted on charging me for it. Also they totally took the easy route on fixing a wrong order. We ordered a dragon fruit sugarcane juice and they come out with a kumquat one. When I told them we ordered a dragon fruit one, they went back to fix it but instead of making a fresh one, they just threw dragon fruit pieces in. I knew it was the same drinks because kumquat was floating around! So that was kind of bad on the staff for taking the easy route out. Elaborating on the food and drinks. That dragonfruit sugar cane was not good. It was dragonfruit kumquat but that's not a good combo. Drink was too thick, too many flavors clashing, it wasn't enjoyable. Highly highly disappointed with that drink. Their baguette wasn't good either. They advertise themselves as "The best french bread/baguette in San Diego" on their instagram, they're not. Baguette was dry, and I'm almost certain they're a couple days old. It's not like Lee's sandwiches where the baguettes are always fresh. I don't even know what the heck was in the sesame ball. It was tough to bite. Probably a few days old also. Also was hoping they were red bean and they weren't. I don't even know what was inside. Pastries were dry and madelines were burnt? Overall would not get any of those stuff again (if I even go back). The only thing thay saved thiswas the crispy pork bahn mi and that wasn't even that good. The pork was crispy which I did enjoy. But the reason why it wasn't good was that bread. So overall it was like a 2.5 star bahn mi out of 5. I don't see myself coming back. Some errands took me near Little Saigon, so I got to drop by Paris Baguette, a place I've been meaning to check out for a while. They are cash only but they accept Venmo and Zelle too. This store is located at the end of a small strip mall and there is some parking, albeit very cramped. The inside is very unassuming, and there are a variety of baked goods, a fridge stuffed with sweet and savory goodies, and a small selection of Vietnamese goodies. It wasn't too crowded when I went, so I didn't have to wait long. They were getting a steady stream of pickup orders as well. I got a meatball pastry and the #1 Dac biet banh mi. I heard Paris Bakery is known for their baguettes, so I was very excited for this sandwich. Boy let me tell you, Paris Baguette DELIVERED. The meatball pastry was not very big, but the meatball was succulent, juicy, and perfectly bouncy. The pastry was flaky but not too flaky. Maybe a better way to describe it would be crispy exterior with a soft, layered interior. It had a nice chewy texture where the meatball juices had soaked into the pastry during baking, but it wasn't at all soggy. Finally, the star of the show: the banh Mi! The baguette it was on was longer and thinner than some of the others I've had. Due to my aforementioned errands, this sandwich actually sat in a hot car for 2 hours before I was able to devour it. Nonetheless, it was stunning!!!! Packed full of eggy Mayo, pate, cold cuts, pickled radish, cilantro, and jalapeño, this was a fabulous banh mi! I especially liked the thin, almost delicate crispiness of the bread's exterior. It gave each bite a crisp crunch without producing mouth-shredding shrapnel. The bread was nicely squished from all of the sandwich fillings, which made it easier to eat and gave the whole thing a nice chew. The pickles were flavorful without being too salty or too sweet. This is regarding their Vietnamese Yogurt (Sua Chua). The ingredients were: condensed milk, water, and whole milk. The basic stuff, but when I spooned it into my mouth it fizzed like it had something bubbly in it. It wasn't smooth either, it was chunky. This wasn't aloe because then it would be stringy and gooey. ***Cash Only*** So this small shop supplies some of the local shops, you can easily find some of their baguettes at the local World Market. Honestly, their bread is pretty good... but that's really it. I purchased 6 Banh Mi (Which included the Dac Biet/Special, the Ga Nuong/Grilled Chicken, and the Nem Nuong/Grilled Pork Patty) and they honestly were all disappointing. In all 3 types of sandwiches, the Mayo was not the usual genuine vietnamese mayo usually used for sandwiches it definitely altered the taste. The ratio of meat and Do Chua/Pickled Stuff and veg weren't great. It also felt like they were stingy with the fillings especially at the ends of the sandwiches where there was practically just bread. For the Dac Biet/Special, they only had 2 types of meat, the classic pork loaf and another type made of fat/skin. Both meats were relatively tasteless and usually I find that most places with a house special sandwich will include vietnamese ham (which they seem to have and sell by itself in a sandwich). The Nem Nuong/Grilled Pork Patty definitely did NOT taste like Nem Nuong. It tasted more like Lap Xuong/Chinese Sweet Sausage. I'm not exactly sure what they do for it, but I don't think anyone vietnamese would recognize it as Nem Nuong. The Ga Nuong/Grilled Chicken had the least complaints other than the general 3 aforementioned. Honestly, I had decent hopes for the place considering the meager variety of decent Banh Mi places nearby, but honestly I'd rather just go to Bale French Sandwich Shop, the only thing this place has on it is slightly better parking and better bread. read more

The service was friendly. It's counter service and to go only. They do accept Venmo and Zelle if you don't have cash. I think they may also take card, unlike some neighboring spots. I got the House Special banh mi and a cha gio to try out. Bother were delicious and the baguette was the best I've had in SD! So flakey and crisp on the outside yet light and fluffy on the inside. They pack it with meat. My only feedback was I wish they put more of the pickles veggies and cilantro to balance the meat. The eggroll was also delicious but it didn't come with any sauce to dip. I saw an Instagram reel about Paris Bakery and how wonderful their in-house baked baguettes and banh mi are, so of course I had to try it. The location is easy to miss as it is at the deep end of a very narrow driveway, in the middle of the block. There's parking on both sides off the driveway, albeit very narrow and limited spots, but we were able to find 2 open spots. I was surprised that their operating hours are M-Sat 5am-2pm and closes at Noon on Sundays, as every other banh mi place I've been to opened all day. There were other goodies, snacks, precooked foods, frozen foods, and desserts/drinks for sale - however looks like there would have been a much larger selection if we went earlier in the day. We got 2 of the Banh Mi Thit Nuong (grilled pork) as that is my all time favorite banh mi. The baguette was very good, light and just the perfect crunch, but not cut your gums hard. They are generous with the meat, which was flavored nicely. Some places are skimpy when it comes to the meat, but not here! The ratio of meat, pickled veg, and spreads was perfect. At $7 a sandwich, these were worth it. Service is quick and no-nonsense. You line up, get tot the register and put in your order, step aside and wait briefly for the sandwiches to be made to order. I read some reviews saying the service was bad or rude because they weren't greeted. I finally got to come here on a Saturday morning around 7:30am; I read this place opens at 5am and I thought I was early, but there were people coming in and out of this place already when I got here! I got their grilled pork vietnamese sandwich, a pate chaud, and a baguette to take home. First time having the pate chaud, which is a warm pastry filled with ground pork. You could tell how fresh it was; the pastry itself was warm and flaky, and it was the perfect way to start my morning off. I had my grilled pork sandwich later in the day for lunch, and that hit the spot! Their filling to bread ratio is solid, which is a plus in my book. My partner and I liked their baguette and snacked on it the next few days. I would definitely want to try their spring rolls, desserts, and other offerings here next time.
