This used to be my favorite bakery in all of Northern Virginia - particularly for the white chocolate mousse cake. When my daughter and I went in the other day , half of the cases were empty - the selection was a little less robust and the slices of cake we ordered were not as good - a little too sweet and not in keeping with the original or as fresh as the other times we had gone there. The staff was a little rude and said a few times that the display cases and other items were broken ... but according to another customer the cases had been that way for months and ownership had changed. While I wish the new owners luck - I won't be making special trips to go to this bakery anymore. read more

I was a long-time customer of Pastries By Randolph. Apparently, the shop recently changed owners -- and the service quality dropped dramatically. The staff was disorganized and was ultimately unable to fulfill my order due to an uncooperative new "decorating manager." I pre-ordered a Cherry pie here for thanksgiving 2022. I went with Randolph's because it was one of the few bakeries that offered Thursday pick up. Which was easy and straightforward. There's parking both along the Main Street as well as behind the bakery where the pre-orders are picked up. Pie was shockingly heavy so I definitely got my moneys worth. For years I have been stopping in at Pastries by Randolph for cakes, pastries and breads. I recently popped in before heading into the office and thought I would pick up a box for the office. Without looking I told the young woman; I wanted 3 of these and 3 of that - when she stopped me. She said, we are under new ownership and things have changed. The Cakes are the same, but the pastries are different. I asked if they had Almond Croissant, and she pointed out this other thing, which is similar and other things. So, I decided to get a bunch of things and took it into the office. People all said is this the same place you always get things for the office. I said, yes, but it's under new ownership. Everyone loved the new items, and I frankly enjoyed them also. The new owner has a bakery in Springfield, Va called The Swiss Bakey and Pastry Shop. read more

Let me just say, I've had my fair share of cakes...but this by far is one of my favorite cakes of all time! The white chocolate mousse cake is INCREDIBLE. So moist yet light and has a smooth and creamy mousse. The white chocolate pairs with the yellow cake so well and while it sounds simple, it truly is delicious. It's sweet but not overbearing and is very nicely decorated. The bakery is a little bit hidden in the corner of a shopping center. Every Christmas my family orders a number of items from Randolph's to pick up on Xmas Eve. This year was the worst experience we have ever had. We waited in line almost 3 hours. At one point the line didn't move for 40 minutes! No one came out from the store to explain the delay or apologize. Many customers were so frustrated they left the line without picking up their orders. When we finally got to the front of the line, it took the staff more than ten minutes to assemble and bring out our order! While we were waiting at the front of the line, other customers who had already received their orders, came back because they had been given the wrong items. We do not blame the staff who looked exhausted and were trying their best to fill orders. But where were the managers and owners during this fiasco??? Why weren't they better prepared and organized? Why weren't more staff hired? Sadly there were signs of problems leading up to Xmas Eve. Over a week ago we bought some Xmas cookies from Randolph's and noticed visibly burned cookies in the display cases. Unless things change dramatically, we won't be returning to Randolph's. read more

During my visit, several customers were picking up pre-ordered cakes that looked delicious. The staff were friendly and treated each customer with respect. I loved it! This review has been a long time coming and is reason enough for me, a Yelp lurker, to post a review for the very first time. I've had to sift through my entire photo gallery to compile some photos--that is how long my immediate and extended families have enjoyed Randolph's exquisite confections as a tradition over the years. I've been having their symphony and mousse cakes since I was a kid and still enjoy them to the fullest every time. We have tried nearly all the signature cakes, most of the tarts, and many of the French pastries. Randolph continues to be consistently exceptional with quality ingredients, beautiful presentation, and just the right amount of sweetness! I've tried many, many bakeries around NOVA and have yet to find a better go-to bakery for French pastries. Always worth the price. Some of my faves are the symphony cake, tiramisu cake, marble mousse ribbon cake, Oreo cheesecake, mango mousse (wish they offered a full size!!), pear almond tart, opera. They also make great challah on Fridays and delicious pumpkin mousse pie around Thanksgiving. They can get busy and at times inconsistent during the holidays, but otherwise always a safe bet. Be sure to place orders ahead of time and sign up for emails for monthly coupons! Wonderful and pleasant staff as well with very easy pickup. This place has been a family favorite for YEARS. To be honest, I haven't had the chance to try everything because my family always only wants the white chocolate marble mousse cake. It is perfectly decadent, creamy, fluffy, & sweet! They do have curbside pickup now in the back of the building which is great! The online ordering makes things so much easier but it is also nice to go inside the bakery and look at everything they have out. The last time I came, I did get to try two small pastries - Oreo Cheesecake - perfectly creamy and not so sweet (I like mine sweeter so it was just okay for me) Fruit Tart - the fruit toppings were delicious as well as the custard. The crust was a tad too plain for my taste. What did bug me last time was that the girl that took my order, grabbed my pastries with bare hands and was trying to squish it in the box (I saw other associates wearing gloves to grab pastries and she did not) so she could've easily grazed it. read more

Stopped by here to pick up a dessert for a birthday while I was in town for the Thanksgiving holiday. I didn't really know what I wanted, I think I looked this place up and was leaning toward a tart, but I ended up getting a fruit cheesecake that was AMAZING! The staff were super nice and let me take my time. The case is ginormous and is sensory overload for all things bakery. My reasoning with getting a fruit cheese cake is that the fruit on top, makes it healthy, but the cake on bottom makes it a "cake". There's a reason why they say "birthday cake" and not "birthday tart" The shop is located on the corner end of a small strip shopping center. Lots of front parking, but I went a little early on the Friday after Thanksgiving so maybe the traffic was a little less than "normal". I don't recall seeing a ton of tables inside, but maybe a couple of outdoor tables on the walkway.... Really, this place feels like there's a lot a traffic of coming in, picking up, and heading out to either a party or another spot. I think they do a lot of custom ordered (cakes, etc) items as well. Have been coming here for many years. Their White Chocolate Mousse cake was our wedding cake 15 years ago! Similar to another recent reviewer, sad to report that since the change in ownership in February 2025 (you can google), things have been headed downhill. Mousse cake now smaller and has a weird and unpleasant aftertaste. The eclairs and napoleons are noticeably smaller (and more expensive) and have a plastic-y consistency that is very off-putting, to say the least. Very sad to witness, but such is life. The guy behind the counter patiently made some recommendations. I walked out with a chocolate truffle cake, some cupcakes, and two mini cheesecakes. The truffle cake and cupcakes were a hit at the party! I kept the two mini cheesecakes to myself and they were the best I've been able to find outside of Brooklyn. After 15 years of coming here, I can only recall them failing or not meeting the expectations they hold like once or twice. They have been proper ever since my parents were single, to their cute dates, and wedding day. Now, I've been coming here with my mans and we been indulging in these delights for idk how long when. The ribbon cake is there best cake they got, it is a very rich chocolate filled/mouse/cream cake. I've always had to order in advanced because on the weekends, they sell out pretty fast in the mornings. The strawberry shortcake disappointed a bit before, but I think they've redeemed themselves. All the other little pastries and delights are worth its bang for the buck, the cookies are on the next level. Back in October I came here to buy my mom some small birthday pastries along with something for myself. I was craving tiramisu at the time. Mind you I've only eating one other time and it wasn't great. Tiramisu is something you either love or hate and I was determined to change my taste buds. All it is, is lady fingers, mascarpone cream, coffee and cocoa powder. It looked beautiful but I still couldn't convince myself I was fan of it. Nonetheless it was beautifully presented and I love the different textures. End story is that I'll probably never like tiramisu but now I have a better memory and less distain for this particular dessert because of how well it was done. Moving on, I purchased a mini lemon meringue and key lime tart for my mom. My mom wasn't wowed by them because she likes desserts to be overly sweet and one note. However she let me taste them for myself (for research purposes). My favorite was the lemon meringue mini tart. It wasn't overly sweet. The curd was smooth and had a little tang but not too much. The crust was flakey and buttery. The only thing that was lack luster was the merengue. For the key lime mini tart, I didn't really like it. The key lime had an off taste to it but the crust was spot on. Service was fast mostly because I came at a slower time. But everyone was patient with me as I took forever in a day to choose something. The inside of the bakery was beautiful and modern. Overall I really liked this place even though my first visit was an experimental run, were I was trying out a new dessert and buying ones for my mom who has different tastes than I do. I can see myself coming back, being completely selfish and trying out more desserts because they aren't extremely expensive, the quality and presentation is great. read more

There's a lot of great desserts at this bakery, if you're looking for dainty and reliable cakes and pastries ready-made for a slightly fancier occasion. We recently picked up two small and simple, but delicious, cheesecakes, one topped with juicy strawberries and the other with dollops of chocolate. But the real reason we keep coming back here is for their baguettes. Crisp (not chewy) on the outside, plush and fluffy on the inside, flavorful without becoming salty, this has quickly become one of our family's favorite baguettes in the entire DMV area. We've tried plenty of great options, from the baguettes churned out at Best Buns Bread out in Shirlington to the eponymously named Fresh Baguette in Georgetown, but this definitely holds its own as one of the best. It won't last as long in your pantry as a baguette you'll turn up at Costco, remaining edible for a day at most, but it's not like you'll be able to resist scarfing it down for much longer anyway! On a COVID-19 note: we stopped here just before noon on a Saturday and it wasn't as busy as I feared.
