This place is an Edgewater staple, and you'll know why once you walk in the door. You want beef? Gyros, and hotdogs, and hamburgers, oh my! Chicken wings, fish and chips, great fries. Love this place. Great service and great food. Consistent and just delicious. Parking is available right out front. Make some time to wait for them to make your food fresh to order or call ahead for pick up, but if you have to wait they have booths and make great milkshakes too. My favorites are the chicken kabob and the chicken strips. read more

Perfect charbroiled burger! Done to perfection with all the toppings. And it was one of the specials today so a 1/2 lb charbroiled burger with fries and a drink was only $6.20 ($6.84 w/tax). Fries were abundant and totally hit the spot. I've been meaning to try Patio Beef after reading a few recent articles and I'm so glad I did. Like the other reviews say, it's immaculately clean inside and the staff is so welcoming and nice. You can eat in, take out, or sit outside. And there's a parking lot! Highly recommend! read more

I love this place. It is always consistent and exactly what I want/expect, never disappointing. The employees are always so nice and accommodating and the food always comes out quickly and piping hot. I always get an Italian beef dipped and plain and it is always delicious. I was sad when Standee's was closed for good ... but it didn't take a long time for me to find even a better replacement. And that's Patio Beef! In fact I think, Standee's clientele, like me, didn't have much problem transferring our loyalty to this place. The clientele's the same - policemen, students, construction workers, office workers, seniors, ... you know, regular people (hah!). In some ways, this is much better than Standee's - it's sunnier, cleaner and the seating's more comfortable. The staff members are very friendly and seem to know the regulars by name. The food is decent to good. I get my craving filled here for Greek-style chicken dinner - a generous helping of half chicken, salad, rice (I can't live without rice), and bread. Their gyros is also good and the Italian beef ...is really good and you get the juice on the side. Yes, it's a little bit divey, but that's the charm of the place - a regular neighborhood joint where you can come as you are, no pretentions, just good solid everyday American (and some Greek) food. And they have parking! The only thing I don't like about this place is ... they have Fox News on television, constantly. :-). read more

I've drove by them a countless amount of times telling my husband, " I bet they've got it going on!" but he said "Woman I am not eating that greasy cheap food with all this other fine dining around me". ....well I got my way! and they indeed GOT IT GOING ON. They got more going on than any of the sit down restaurants nearby cooking up american comfort foods for better prices. BTW- the foods not greasy at all. Chicken tender dinner with french fries and cheese sauce. Gyro sandwich with onion rings and ranch dipping sauce. 2 Cokes in a Can. ( I love that!) I am so happy to find a place reminiscent to my small home town lunch spots like Mickeys. The reason it did not get 5 stars is that I think the prices could be less for the portion sizes. If I am paying $9 for a 4 piece chicken tender and fries, then I should at least get a drink included. Will return though. read more

The chicken breast sandwich is so good! Get them with cajun fries and pepsi and it looks like quality college lunch time to me. The owner and his wife and daughters are friendly and efficient and keep things in order, and they remember your order if you're there often. Parking available and plenty of newspapers to sit back and read, or look up and watch the tele...nice quiet environment. Go there on certain nights and you'll catch all the cute CPD cops. In my neighborhood and oh so glad it is! Love there food, the service and the free parking! Good size location, very clean and good portions. A little pricey for some items, but hey if you don't like it go to McDonald's. You get what you pay for. Our favorite is the burgers - but everything is great. My kids love their hot dogs, and they are fussy eaters. Right next to the Edgewater library, and across from Whole foods. We get a lot done after our lunch here on Saturday's. Picture a Chicago Beef/Burger/Dog Place in your head, and here you have it. The Italian Beef/Sausage Combo is great. The sausage is huge and I like the way they cook it. I didn't give 5 stars because I thought almost ten dollars was a tiny bit much for a sandwich, fries, and a glass of water. I did, however, leave full and satisfied, and I will return. Fairly classic Chicago hotdog stand. The hotdog and fries are both very good. Dog is a vienna so all is right in that world... Gyro is a good gyro with a very tasty sauce. It could be meatier, but overall a decent sandwich. There is ample seating including outdoor patio- albeit on Broadway are. Service is always friendly and overall it is a solid place for hotdog or gyro. read more

We're new to the neighborhood but this clean, cheery Mom-n-Pop store has become one of our favorites. Food is fast, fresh and reasonably priced. This is not gourmet fare but it's pretty darn good diner food. We particularly like the burgers and fish sandwich but have had several meals that were tasty and filling. Onion rings were soggy and greasy one time, so maybe the fryer temp was too low that day. Give them a try when you're craving some Chicago style comfort food. They have a patio, although it's somewhat indoors. They serve italian beef (yes, they dip the sandwich in the sauce). I don't get anything else here, because I don't have to. Their fries are eh, but the beef is really good and cheap. Could use slightly bigger portions though. read more

Ever so often, especially during the summers, I will take a long walk down to this place. Good fast food, especially the fries and the pizza puffs. A nice place, but a little small in size. I've walked by this little family-owned greasy spoon for years and never once thought of going in until a recent trip to the new library. I WAS WRONG. The Italian beef (dipped with hot peppers) was really, really good. The hot dog was nothing special, but $5 with a drink and fries made it a great deal. I can't wait to try the gyro and other Greek dishes...not to mention the cheese fries. This is not health food, and it won't be getting a Michelin star anytime soon, but it does what it does pretty damn well. read more

I've had just about everything on the menu- the gyros are pretty good and so is their chicken, but for less money you can get better food near by. I almost forgot!!.. their rice is delicious too!
