Pata Negra has recently rebranded to Patria Mezcaleria, so it was only right for me to update my review. I was invited by my friend to attend a tequila dinner hosted by Tequila Mosto. The tickets were about $70 for a five course tasting. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. The welcome drink "el peli rojo", was a delicious watermelon based cocktail. We started with an aguachile that blew my mind. The flavors were seriously amazing! I wouldn't typically go for something like this, but I really enjoyed it. The ribeye taco was amazing and the octopus risotto was fantastic. I enjoyed the carne alteña and dessert as well. The dinner was executed beautifully ! The owner spoke of his passion for great Mexican food and agave spirits. All of their spirits are addictive free and they have an amazing selection. I'm looking forward to returning soon! read more

I recently visited on Cinco de Mayo and had a very disappointing experience overall. The hostess was polite and seated us promptly, which was a great start. Unfortunately, the rest of the evening quickly went downhill. The music was extremely loud -- so loud that I had to practically yell across the table just to have a conversation with my date, even though we were sitting only a couple of feet apart. Service was also very poor. After being seated, we waited nearly five minutes before anyone acknowledged that we still hadn't been greeted by a server. Once the waitress finally came over, we placed a simple order right away: one appetizer, two drinks, and five tacos. Shortly after taking our order, she returned and asked us to repeat everything because she hadn't written it down. When the appetizer arrived, we still didn't have utensils or napkins, so I had to get up and ask for them myself. Our drinks didn't arrive until we were almost finished with the appetizer. At that point, expecting our tacos to come out soon, we ordered two more drinks. After waiting quite a while longer, I asked the waitress how much longer the tacos would take, and she simply said the kitchen was busy. About 30 minutes later, a server finally brought food out from the kitchen -- but it turned out to be for the table next to us, even though they had been seated roughly 30 minutes after we arrived. The other table recognized the order and had to ask us to hand over the plates. At that point, we decided to cut our losses and asked for the check so we could pay for the drinks and appetizer and leave. Unfortunately, we left still hungry, and the evening ended with a very frustrated date and a completely disappointing dining experience. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant we'd been to twice now, the first time a few years ago and the most recent was last month. Both were good experiences with solid food, albeit a bit pricey for what you get. This last time, we were meeting our friends coming from Midtown... they ended up being an hour late due to street closures, and the restaurant did not give us a hard time at all for taking up a table... most likely because the place was largely dead in the peak of dinner on a Saturday night. Our first visit I remember it being packed and bustling, so not sure what is causing the decline. This time, our server disappeared several times. We enjoyed the complimentary spiced chicharrons and sipped on cocktails while we waited for our friends. Mine tasted like a watered down espresso martini. For the four of us, we ordered five dishes to share, which left us full: -tostada de atun macha (raw tuna) -croquetas costa esmeralda (seafood and risotto croquettes--this was our favorite!) -mejillones a la maximiliana (mussels, scallops, octopus) -tacos el guerito (three flank steak tacos) -pulpo en pipian madre (charred octopus) We split two desserts but there was some confusion with the order and whether they had the popcorn ice cream. Parking in the attached garage is validated which is a big bonus for the area. I'd recommend this restaurant for a fun date night but I think you can get comparably good Mexican food for way cheaper elsewhere. read more

Came here on a whim with a friend--the two of us wanting a quick bite and a drink. Pata Negra is found on the bottom floor of an apartment building which can be tricky to find if you're not familiar with the layout. We made our way inside, validated our parking then got straight to ordering. We started with the tequila flight which came with bite size pieces of chocolate, cheese, and guava--all of which paired nicely with each taster. I ordered the tuna tostada which was incredibly flavorful and a ceviche (I forgot what it's called on the menu) and it was equally as delicious. Came here on a Thursday night to try this place and it was small! I have always driven by this place so we decided to come check it out and it was small but cute. The door was hard to find as an entrance, I believe they share the residential building so we came in through the patio. Service was great and there wasn't a wait so we just grabbed a seat at the bar. Based on the bartenders recommendations we started with some drinks and my friend grabbed the passion fruit drink with mezcal and I grabbed their signature "Pata negra" that had sage and palo santo and some lemon. It was delicious but very Smokey and mezcal flavored so I switched with my friend since hers wasn't as Smokey. The ceviche was good, pretty spicy and our bartender/server was very attentive. This place is beautiful. From the street it very unassuming but it has the capacity to be on the Atlanta "it" list. This is not your run of the mill tex mex resturant. This mezcaleria feels very authentic. My party of three came for a girls night and we didn't try everything on the menu (because you need a waiter to explain it or Google to clarify unknown ingredients). We had a couple rounds of drinks and enjoyed the amazing service. Parking in the garage is validated upon entry for 3hrs. Dont pay to park!!! read more

Been coming here for 6 months now but confused because every time I come in, Iam the only one there. I think the owner really has some stuff to figure out. The have great food , good drinks etc, but are always dead slow. If you're a guy looking to enjoy some scenery while kicking back, this isn't the place for you. What a joke of a restaurant. I arrive at 10pm it says online they close at 12am and on the door of the restaurant, yet when I walked in they told me they were closed. Twice they have done this and not made a correction to the door or website. I reserved to watch the World Cup opener at the outdoor seating, I called two times to specifically ask/modify the reservation and made sure they would be showing the game outside - I arrive to find out they don't even have the channel. My friend recommended this spot for lunch and it is so good! I will definitely be back. Reservations: Unbeknownst to me, my friend made a reservation but I got there before here and grabbed a table. I got seated immediately. I can see this place being popular for dinner, so would suggest making reservations if planning to come later in the day. Parking: There is a garage with ample parking AND it's validated! Make sure to grab your license plate number before walking in because you'll need to input it into the kiosk at the hostess stand for validation. Food: Oh. My. Gosh. The food here is so flavorful. We ordered chips and queso to start and we could not stop eating that. I ordered the Tacos Arabesque, which were the most delicious chicken tacos. My friends ordered the Poblanas de Pollo, which was equally delicious (I sampled theirs) and its chicken enchiladas. I was going to get that but wasn't sure about the spice level. It wasn't too spicy and that's what I'm getting next time I go back! Drinks: We all ordered the Dahlia, but two of us weren't drinking so they were able to make that into a mocktail for us. So tasty and refreshing. I'm not sure I'll venture away from that drink because I liked it so much! Vibe: The staff is so friendly and welcoming. They are happy to assist with recommendations. Our host and waiter was Tomas, and shoutout to him - he's great! The atmosphere indoors is giving dark and sexy. They do have outdoor seating as well, but it is right next to the street so might be a bit loud with the cars driving by. The food was very unique and the service was great. When we came in, the music was either not on, very low volume, or not evenly spaced throughout which sort of made it awkward coming in. Our favorite items on the menu were the ceviche, croquetas, tacos, and enchiladas. The presentation was great. The food was good, but nothing wowing and worth 5 stars to me. And factoring in the price puts my review at a solid 4 stars. They had complimentary chicharrones for the table to share. It was tasty and crunchy but nothing spectacular to call out. The table shared the oro verde guacamole ($18), salsa huasteca ($6), and I believe also the panucho de cochinita pibil ($27). These were good and some more unique than others (the latter), but is it worth the price to portion ratio -- look at my pictures for reference sizes??? The hubs had the sopa del dia ($12) and aguachile de carne encenizado ($30). His soup was a rather watery, green soup with chicken chunks and potato/starchy bites. It was good, but I don't think we'd get it again. The main dish was interesting in its taste appeal and flavor. This was something quite unique and pretty worth the price ish. The beef was tender with the portobello tasting delicious. The habero ashes (really black sauce) everything sat upon was a creative endeavor by the chef. I still can't pinpoint what exactly it is or how to really describe it. I had the temporada de lluvias ($38). The scallops were scrumptious and so tasty with the flavors of the risotto. The risotto itself was interesting. It was huitlacoche to be specific, and I really dug the flavors and unique ingredients. The risotto was rich in flavors and had corn, mushrooms, and other tidbits that came together really well. For dessert, we all shared the dama nocturna ($15). The ice cream, mousse, cake, etc. all worked so well together to play on fun textures, flavors, and sensations. Some of the portion sizes were a wee bit on the tiny side. Like the chocolate cake thingy (dessert) was greatly presented and tasted amazing, but it was on the smaller side. Park in the Arya (upscale apartment) parking structure. A wonderful intimate and tasty option in Atlanta. The food is authentic and inventive without being over-engineered, and though the menu isn't large it has enough options to fit most tastes. Every dish our group tried was cooked to perfection. The service was superb as well with numerous wait staff ensuring our small group had everything we needed. Our drinks never went dry, food was delivered promptly and the staff answered all of our questions about the menu. What a fun new place with authentic food from Jalisco, Mexico. The restaurant is decorated in a very moody way, with dim lighting and an interesting mix of music. The service was great, and the manager came to check on us several times. The food is hard to predict from the menu, but the Tlayuda de Piedad was like a pizza with black bean paste sauce with different veggies in every bite. The chef's special salad was an arugula salad with citrus that was perfection. I'm not an enchilada person usually, but the poblanos de pollo were really good and the crema was so fresh. We loved our cocktails (La Tapatia, spicy, and Pata Negra). The garage parking is validated and the restaurant is inside the entrance for the apartment complex. They have a patio, but it's right on Peachtree, so it's very loud out there with cars whizzing by. read more

One of the best new restaurants in Atlanta for sure!!! Pata negra is such a beautiful spot with fantastic food. They validate parking as well which is a huge plus! We had a pretty large group come in for dinner but the service was great and fast. The drinks came in mini cauldrons which was super cute! I didn't try any when I went, but my friends who did all said they liked them. I had the aguachile de carne for dinner and I really enjoyed how the meat was cooked and the sauce. The enchiladas were also pretty decent, but I don't think mole is really my thing. I then had a dessert that was chocolate, passion fruit, and guava and it was pretty good too! Overall I'd definitely come back for a nice date night or girls night, and the only con I can think of is it was a bit expensive for the portions. But other than that, pata negra was fantastic and is a strong early contender for top spots of 2024! read more

This is among the freshest concepts and best execution for a new restaurant in Atlanta! The interior is all black, with interesting, light fixtures, and the bar is absolutely beautiful! The bar decoration actually has the agave above ground and the roots below ground as the decoration across the top. Alex took care of us and it's very clear that he has a strong personal connection to the restaurant, the chef, and the overall vision. David was the manager manager the night we were there, and he was a tremendous host, and likewise connected us with the dishes, and why they are special and what the inspiration was. The chef is preparing dishes that speak to his upbringing and the food that he had. But please don't think about this as being a greasy Mexican place. This is high cuisine with very innovative flavors and sublime execution. I could tell you about what we ordered, and how much I loved each of the dishes, but I would suggest coming in and talking to Alex or David and hearing about the dishes. Even looking at the menu won't do it justice. I will say that the guacamole was excellent And we also started with appetizers that were fantastic especially one which was a flower tortilla with some beans and then chicken that had been marinated for 24 hours and then roasted for three hours with lots of other goodies. The chicken salad was by all accounts. Excellent, we shared a lot of dishes, so we also had the enchiladas with the Molé sauce. I'm from Texas, and this was the best Molé I've ever had. We also had the chicken tacos which were fantastic with lots of fresh items on it. But the really excellent pieces were the steaks, we had both, and they were really well done And super flavorful with sides that were likewise very flavorful. The poblano rice sounds like it would be just rice, but it's delicious and full flavor! This is a five star review you can believe! I'm looking forward to going back with a group of guys to go to the bar and hang out with the bartender learning about the different mezcals. read more

Make no mistake about it. When you walk in Pata, you instantly feel the upscale tempo. Upon entry, you walk through the lobby of Arya (one of the many mid-rise apartment buildings in Atlanta) and then through the doors of Pata. A parking deck is available and Pata validates, but I'm not certain how much time the validation pays for. As for my visit, my primary intention was to go imbibe upon the finest mezcal. Over the past year or two, I have been learning to enjoy the tones and flavors of mezcal. How to actually drink mezcal and pair it with different food. My first impression of mezcal, probably like most people, was the overpowering smoky aftertaste. But I learned how to use that to my advantage. I took a mezcal flight that set me back $80+, I think it was called Pescador and it included 3 moderate pours of different mezcals. Out of the three, only one really stood out to me - Cuishe. Turns out that's like a $100 bottle for 750ml. But it was absolutely smooth and flavorful. They also offered chocolates and other bite sized pairings with the flight. If I could make a suggestion, give me a taco instead! As far as food, I only snacked. The dinner menu offered guac so I gave that a try and shared an enchilada with my date. Both were good. Lunch here featured large portions of delicious food at reasonable prices. The $10 appetizer sampler was nearly lunch for two. Pata Negra takes Atlanta's Mexican dining scene up two notches, giving a sense of what it is like to dine in Mexico City (which is a foodie city.) The outdoor seating is pleasant, and the moody darker interiors look great for evening dining. Service was excellent. Parking was easy and without charge. Midtown Upscale Designer Room, Amazing Creative Food and Beverages Mid-town Atlanta location with easy, validated parking the garage attached to the restaurant. Sophisticated modern room with black walls and furniture. Food is exceptional. Margaritas are well done. I agree with the earlier reviewer complaining of the $18 margarita for a small glass. Staff is very professional, well managed and friendly. We enjoyed the unique round and charred chips with roasted salsa. Chicken enchiladas w/rice were excellent, but two is plenty and the third one became monotonous. Ordered side of black beans, which were phenomenal. Some may be aware that their partner restaurant is south of downtown in the Grant Park community, Patria Cocina - ATL. Both locations are terrific and I will continue to patronize both, but Cocina is my favorite with better, slightly larger margaritas and a more festive room with a beautiful outdoor patio and ample parking lot. read more

Our group of three enjoyed a perfect Sunday night dinner at Pata Negra a few weeks after it opened. We were delighted across the board by the food, service, cocktails, atmosphere, decor and overall concept. The menu is inspired by the chef and owner's memories of growing up in Jalisco. We started off with the oro verde guacamole with tostadas--delicious. Drinks included La Tapatia, a gorgeous signature cocktail reminiscent of a margarita. All three of our entrees were a hit: the tacos Arabes with chicken and avocado mousse on handmade corn tortillas; poblanas de pollo, three generous enchiladas with chicken and peppers in a velvety sauce; and the aguachile de carne encenizado, tender steak with portobello mushrooms packed with flavor. Went a for an early evening dinner on a Tuesday, and the ambience was lovely. I was quickly greeted at the door by the host that took my reservation as well as let me validate my parking. The host, bartender, as well as my server were superb. I ordered the oro verde guacamole for an appetizer, and the poblanas de pollo for my entree. This is amazing food, now, let me tell you more about it and how I got here. Here for Don Sadler's operation two blocks away at Piedmont Hospital and I rented a VRBO to be close. As I was walking to the hospital this morning, a very nice Latin gentleman stopped me and asked if I knew where this restaurant was... So we googled and I wished him "Buena Suerte" on his job interview. Later, I was hungry for lunch and happened back...
