STEPH JUDGEMENT: Nice upper east side casual Italian eatery. The hubby and I stopped in here because we were escaping a rainstorm, but it actually turned out to be quite nice. It has "pizzeria" in the name, but it's certainly a lot fancier than your regular pizza joint. It's got white tablecloths and well-dressed waiters, let's put it at that. They had good lunch specials too--I got the Eggplant vegetarian panini (wonderfully fresh, served with a side salad), and the hubby got the bean and pasta soup (very hot, very good). The portions were large and the prices reasonable for the quality. The service was friendly but inexplicably slow, given that it was not crowded at all. Good thing we weren't in a hurry. This place is really overpriced for the quality of the food they serve. I've tried a white pizza (crust was not good), the pesto pasta, as well as the fettuccine alfredo from here they have all been just okay. My favorite of the three was the fettuccine alfredo. Came here for a Saturday night dinner with three friends. I made reservations a few weeks beforehand, which was a good thing because this place was completely full the entire time we were here. The inside certainly feels like an institution, with a lot of historic photos posted around the restaurant and the brick design in some parts as well. The 4 of us shared bruschetta, grilled calamari, and a large white pie pizza with pepperoni, prosciutto, arugula, and mushrooms. The calamari and the pizza were both excellent, the calamari in particular surprised me. Pizza is thin crust, traditional New York style. The bruschetta was a bit too tough to eat, might've been cooked a bit too long. Service was a bit poor, it took long for us to have our order taken, and we had to ask a couple times for our water to be filled. In terms of the pizza and a couple appetizers, this place does it well. Service and the bruschetta could definitely be improved for it to be a 5-star rating. read more

Patsy's margherita pizza is the best! I have gotten this pizza many many times. Unfortunately, it is a little bit expensive for the large pie (~$30), which is good for about ~2 people. I would highly recommend adding garlic to the order. The pizza has a really nice smokiness to it (though I've also had a pie badly burnt at the bottom once), and it's a flatter pizza. The tomato sauce has nice acidity, and I wish there was a bit more fresh basil added to the pizza. There is a lot of additional seating upstairs, which is decorated nicely, and I haven't had an issue getting a seat without a reservation. The manager could be a bit friendlier, but I think the pie is worth it! They also have a few other locations in the city that are worth trying. read more

After having dined at Patsy's Pizzeria's other location on 2nd avenue, I was delighted when I found out that they have a second location on the Upper West Side. Looking for somewhere to go for an early weeknight dinner, I was able to secure a table that same day through Opentable. Patsy's Upper West Side location lived up to my expectations; the Margherita pizza was just as light, fresh, and crispy as I remembered it to be, and the Upper West Side location's ambiance was slightly more upscale and cozy than the 2nd Avenue restaurant. My group also ordered the calamari appetizer and beet salad to share - both were superb and rounded out an excellent meal. Acknowledging that it's hard to stand out with plenty of pizza options in the city, Patsy's remains one of my favorites. read more

Can we say bad all around? I frequented the Patsy's location on the Upper West Side several years back. It consistently had great pizza, salads and drinks. Perhaps out of nostalgia and convenience I thought to try this location while I was in New York in October. What a disappointment! The service was extremely slow. Only when we complained did they tell us that they were prioritizing a large party. Guess what? They are in NYC -- it's a fair bet that there are large crowds everywhere. Never mind though because when the food finally came, it was cold and bland. Please consider this a warning. NYC has plenty of good spots. Patsy's is no longer one of them. What a shame. read more

This establishment ( there are numerous Patsy's) is near Bloomingdales. With that out of the way, my friend who lives on UES recommended this place due to haven eaten here in the past. We entered and asked where the main dining room is and received no answer by " the friendly" " waiter?" " manager"? My friend is still not okay with dining inside thus wanted to be seated in a quieter section. He sat us at a table near the kitchen. He then placed menus and a wine list on our table. We didn't want to drink any wine and just wanted water. He places the waters down and we told him we needed a bit more time. Then the attitude starts: First side of attitude served: when I asked for lemon for my water. He surly goes and presents two tiny slices of lemon on a plate. Wow, big effort. We were ready to order: we were sharing a Ceasar Salad. I ordered linguine Alla vongole in a white sauce, my friend ordered the eggplant parmigiana with a side of spaghetti. A different server served our salad which should be renamed Crouton Dish with a side of salad in a tasteless dressing with two minuscule slice of Parmesan cheese. There was no " fresh pepper"? We are slow eaters thus our dishes came out as we were still eating our " salad". The eggplant parmigiana looked " meh" although the eggplant tasted good but the spaghetti looked like Chef Boyardee. The linguine Alla vongole wasn't any better; served in a bigger size salad bowl with a little linguine and teeny tiny clams. The sauce: microwaved mush. Not once did any employee come to our table to ask if everything was ok. The only employee I heard was the woman having a meltdown in the kitchen who we heard loud and clear due to sitting near it. The server asked if we wanted dessert, no communication of specials, recommendations, etc. He, meltdown employee and " manager" congregated near bar to discuss what had transpired in the kitchen. Wow, real professional! Then the second dish of attitude arrived when the bill came. My friend wanted to pay her portion with cash, I with my debit card. The server gave us a look as if it was the end of the world. I asked him to put half of bill on my debit card. He comes back and stated "you still owe half". At this point I had had it and sarcastically replied " I don't need help with math". The "manager" gives me this incredulous look and I gave it back again" This place has the worst customer service". Note to owner: drop the Elitist attitude.. your food is beyond edible. Charging $21 for get this ladies and gents a two slice 13" pizza is a joke( Hey UES there's a whole other world on Broadway.. MAMO have you heard of it?"). Your staff is unprofessional, surly and honestly doesn't seem to want to work at Patsy's or maybe not at all? This is a 2 1/2-3 star place at best. Just came in on Memorial Day and the place was dead at 12:30. Even with that we were asked if we had reservations and given attitude when we said no. The setup screams old school but as I understand it, this isn't the original location. Good thing as the food is ok at best. The pizza has flavor but spends too much of the flavor profile on the Italian spices rather than a tasty tomato sauce. The cheese seems decent quality leading to a bonus but the basil is way too big and clumped for consistency of taste. A pasta dish ordered at the table was said to be mushy and only ok. My soup was somewhat bland though it did have plenty of pasta and beans. It was also served boiling hot, so hot that I could eat eat for 5 or so minutes. The bruschetta we got was ok as well but nothing special. Overall this is a 2-3 star place though they could use some help w service attention. The soup needed some salt and pepper to round out. I waited over 5 min for a waiter to walk by and even then, they only had 1 set of shakers in the place and they were already at another table. I almost got the pepper mill for myself to use (a pepper mill they had not brought to the table before with the pasta or soup service). There is much better in the area. This visit was an outdoor dining lunch with my hubby and sister. We shared every dish on the table and loved each one. My favorite is always the: - spaghetti with meat sauce - the pasta is piled high and covered in just the right amount of sauce. Gorgeous. - the Veal Parm is a must try. No secret, it's my favorite dish when it comes to Italian cuisine. Marta, the manager, was kind and professional, and let me know what my options were for our large-ish group.
