I'm honestly not sure why the rating isn't so high here. The food is so good, the staff were so adorable and so nice, and there's a whole PARKING LOT with free parking! Checks all the boxes in my book! The food is very authentic Thai style as well. They have pad Thai sukhothai, which is authentic and delicious. The coconut paradise curry comes in a coconut and it is so dang cute as well as delicious. Tom kha noodles were also fantastic. My absolute favorite of the night was the soft shell crab salad. Limey fish sauce apple slaw with fried soft shell crab pieces. Absolutely INCREDIBLE explosion of flavors. Can't believe I just now randomly discovered this spot.

Roti - Perfect if you want something sweet but light.

My "Go-To" place whenever I want Thai mainly because they always carry more options than any other Thai place that I visit. Also, I think they have the best decor (if that sort of thing matters to you) - nothing too over-the-top, but also not just plain, white walls. FOOD Appetizers: Shrimp Cake - 9.4 / 10 A literal MUST whenever I come here. Maybe because this was my dad's favorite. Not all places carry it. For me, I definitely need a crispy & crunchy appetizer. If I only ever ordered 1 single, solitary thing it would be this. I'd score this much higher, but the size of each individual cake has gotten smaller over the years because of shrinkflation. Money Bags - 9.4 / 10 A fun take on a wonton-wrapped offering. The amount of stuffed chicken is adequate for a 1 - 2 biter & I especially love the plump sweet peas. The carrot add a rounded sweetness + rounded depth of flavor. Chicken Satay - 9.4 / 10 Everybody solid That place has their version. Their is better than others as theirs is truly moist (other places tend to be drier + bland). The accompanying peanut sauce is rich + dark. The cucumber salad provides a nice + refreshing sour counterbalance to the earthy umami notes of the satay. I appreciate that they include 2 pieces of diagonally sliced white toast (for a very noticeable textural contrast). Steamed Rice - 9.1 / 10 It's honestly really difficult to mess-up steamed white rice. I will say, they deserve such a high rating because they offer you a VERY generous portion (one of my pet peeves is when I have to ask for another order of a bowl of steamed rice - here, not the case). Entrées Spicy Eggplant - 9.5 / 10 Not all Thai places offer an eggplant dish. For me, it's a great way to get a healthy serving of vegetables in along with a hearty meat. Go with the beef option & you'll definitely have a dish that "stick to your ribs". This is the dish that helps you feel full. Also, this is the dish to order as "really spicy" if you're a real "hot head" like me who thrives of heat. Pad See Ew - 9.5 / 10 Everybody seems to get Pad Thai as their noodle dish. I feel like that's what someone orders when they don't know what to get. Here, Pad See Ew tends to be slept on & is highly underrated. I can tell that they cook theirs fresh to order. How? the tricky part is that almost all Thai places overcook their fat, flat noodles. Pattaya always manages to bring out a perfect plate of al dente (firmer) noodles. Also, a hallmark of a any legit solid pad see ew is the use of real Chinese broccoli - instead of that American stuff. Do yourself a favor & upgrade your protein to shrimp. Pad Woon Sen - 9.5 / 10 If you prefer thin, glass noodle, that this is the dish to get. It's very fun to eat alongside your main dishes. The steamed American broccoli, carrots, & cabbage provide the necessary vegetables to round out any Thai meal. Again, go with the shrimp upgrade as your protein. Dessert Roti - 9.4 / 10 If you want a light dish just to end on a sweet note, then this is the dish for you. Thin, flaky flatbread soaked with just the right amount of syrup. It very much reminds me of Filipino suman (sticky rice cake), at least from a taste point-of-view. Mango Sticky Rice - 9.5 / 10 If you prefer something with a little more "heft" than opt for this classic Thai offering. The mango is perfectly ripe, sweet, & tender. You can really taste the richness of the coconut rice, which is very essential to having the perfect bite. The contrast in flavors combined to create a rather indescribable balance is what makes this dish sublime. I know that people come here for the very lively live karaoke at night. However, I'm the kind of guy that prefers to dine with less patrons, especially less inebriated ones singing horribly out of tune (as charming as that can be). We went on a late Friday afternoon / early evening before a show at the nearby Greek Theater & we were the only ones there. That's exactly what I wanted. But don't let that worry you. The food + lovely decor are wonderful & this restaurant definitely deserves your patronage. Granted they have a wide selection of lunch specials tailored for the individual (available 11am - 5pm), I think places like these truly thrive off of ordering a la carte because leftovers are even better the next day. Also, don't be like my former roommate - who decided to go here with his friends without me. They all ordered Pad Thai for themselves (the other ordering Pad See Ew). Not that there's anything wrong with these delicious dishes. This place thrives off ordering "Family Style" to really experience the vast variety of textures, flavors, & heat levels. If you're going here with someone else, make the most of your experience & get the best of both (or all) worlds by ordering Family Style. It also allows for a more inclusive experience.

My friend brought me here as she was in the mood for some Thai food, she told me they do karaoke here as well and it's the first thing you see when you walk in, the corner stage, looks fun, might come for some later. The place is neat inside plenty of space. I like the choice I went with, I was told it was spicy, but I wanted more of a kick, it was delicious nonetheless.

Loved the thai tea here. The orange chicken literally tastes like orange! The vibes in here are really nice too. People are singing and having a good time.

Ordered takeout from Pattaya Bay Thai, the food was alright, but the presentation was kinda meh. The fried rice tasted decent and had a good amount of meat and egg, but it looked a bit thrown together in the box. Not super appetizing at first glance. Maybe better for dine-in next time.

Pork Spare Ribs Soup

My favorite dish today is the Papaya Salad medium spicy at Pattaya Bay. The texture of the papaya slice combined with sauce, dry shrimp and peanut are awesome. I have it with the sticky rice. The grilled pork comes with the house special sauce on the side. Yummy! The pork spare ribs soup has sliced mushroom and tomatoes served in the hot pot. Three crispy salad is crisp to perfection. Pattaya Bay restaurant has a good vibe, feels relaxing every time I come to the restaurant. Great service! Thank you!

I've tried many things here .. some have been flops and the others have been staples ... I suggest for appetizer getting the money bags .. for entrees I stick with the yellow chicken curry .. so good and flavorful .. my friend gets the seafood soup and loves it from here .. service is always impeccable and the ambiance is great , it's usually pretty chill.. they have karaoke nights and sometimes it can get packed so if you like a more chill ambiance skip those nights

The regular menu is quite expensive with the cheapest at $17 for appetizer and salad options and most expensive at a whooping $80. The lunch menu was more affordable but still on the pricey side $21-$32 with add on options. The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. The rice was piping hot and the mangos were sweet and soft, drizzled with a generous serving of sweet coconut milk. Personally, the rice was a bit too soft for me and the coconut milk was a tad too sweet, but it still scratched the itch I had for mango sticky rice. I went close to closing so the staff could only offer me takeout, which was fine. They were friendly both over the phone and in-person when I picked up my order. I'm only dinging it a point because of its high(er) price point. I would be down to go back again to try out their entrees next time though!

I felt like I came to eat and my mom's house. They take Debit Card and Apple Pay WITH a pin only. I forgot my wallet and paid with Apple Pay. It did not have a place for tip which made me feel awful. At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. This place is by far my favorite Thai restaurant and that's why it's so disheartening to write this…read morereview. I have written at least 2 glowing reviews of the restaurant in the past and wish this could be one of them, but it's not. Over the last 4-5 days I have tried no less than 2 dozen times to call the restaurant during proper business hours to order food for pick-up as I often do. The phone rang and rang to no avail. I live too far from the restaurant to just pop up and place an order so I rely on calling ahead. I have been a customer of this restaurant for at least the last 9 years and have almost never had the aforementioned experience. Though I do recall not being able to get a call through several times on one or two occasions in the relatively distant past. Today I was finally able to get a call through and began placing my order which includes shrimp. I ALWAYS request the tail (with shells) to be removed from the shrimp as I find it quite difficult to enjoy my meal if I'm constantly having to pick off shells with my hands. It's unsanitary and messy. Removing the tails from 15-20 shrimp prior to adding to an entree or soup should take no more than 60 seconds and that's if one is moving at a glacial pace. However, today I was told that the kitchen was too busy to honor my request. I assured the lady taking my order than I was a loyal customer and make this request will every order I place and it is always honored. She repeated her claim that the kitchen was too busy and refused to do it. I cancelled my order and ended the call. Now I usually order food from the restaurant 4-5 times a month and usually spend about $65 each time not including tip. That is approximately $325 per month of my hard earned money that I give to this restaurant in exchange for great food and service. I am appalled and quite upset that having been a loyal customer for almost a decade and spending as much money there as I do per month that they could at least honor my patronage by simply taking an additional 60 seconds in the kitchen to make my meal more enjoyable. Her refusal to do such a minuscule task has deeply soured my experience with Hoy-Ka not to mention the fact that I could not reach the restaurant for almost a week by phone for no apparent reason. I will not be going back to this restaurant until they rectify this situation.

I can't believe it's been 12 years--and I'm so happy to say it was every bit as incredible as I remembered. My friend and I came for lunch. I ordered the vegetable pho, and she had the curry rice. Both dishes were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. Honestly, I wish we had more time because we had another appointment downtown. I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. My favorite on the Westside is Variable Café, but if you're willing to drive a little farther, Au Lac is on another level. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. I won't be ordering this dish again. I took half home, cut up the soybean fish and added it to a stew. I didn't mention to my server that it was my bday, but was disappointed that he didn't even offer like regular servers do, "Would you like to see the dessert menu?" I didn't tell him it was my bday nor did I ask for the dessert menu bc I wasn't the one paying the bill. Not that I needed dessert, but it would've been nice to have been asked. When I mentioned this to another server who came by to clear our table that our server didn't even ask if we wanted dessert and that the restaurant doesn't seem to want to push its desserts, he quickly brought us a dessert menu, but my friend was already paying our bill - too late! It would've been nice to be asked earlier. I even had candles in my bag just in case we got dessert. Anyway, this server said he'll tell our server about not offering dessert. The next day I came back with another friend after a Music Center event. My server from the day before recognized me. This time he asked us at the start before we ordered or after we had just ordered whether we'd like to see the dessert menu. Huh? Ask at the END not start of a meal! Instead of embarrassing him, I told him, "No, thanks. My bday was yesterday." On this second day, my friend and I shared a Chinoise salad (delicious and refreshing!) and paella (not like a paella, a little too wet and granular for our taste, but healthy - a living food dish). We had mint and lemon water for both meals. $12 parking in the adjacent structure. Free parking passes at the Music Center if you're a season ticket holder or good luck with finding street parking. I'd still continue to occasionally patronize this restaurant when I have Music Center events bc I want to support veganism, the restaurant; however, I was disappointed with some of the food and waitstaff this weekend. I'd suggest that the waitstaff go thru customer training on when/what/how to talk to customers.
