I had a disappointing experience at Pimai It's Thai and unfortunately won't be returning. After a long day at work where I hadn't eaten at all, I decided to treat myself to Thai food. I've passed by this restaurant many times and finally chose to give it a try. Before going, I checked the hours on multiple platforms--Google, Yelp, and other sites--all of which stated the restaurant closes at 9:00 PM. I arrived and was seated by the window 8PM, specifically choosing that seat to enjoy the beautiful evening outside. Shortly after, my server began closing the window curtains. I asked if she needed me to leave, and she said no, that I could finish my meal. However, a few minutes later--around 8:30PM--the music was turned off as well. At that point, the atmosphere made it very clear I was no longer welcome to dine comfortably. Feeling rushed and uncomfortable, I stopped eating and went to the front to pay, even though I hadn't finished my meal. While paying, I politely mentioned that I wished the music had stayed on and the curtains remained open so I could enjoy my dining experience. I was then told that the restaurant closes at 8:30 PM, which directly contradicts what is listed online. If a restaurant closes earlier than advertised, that needs to be clearly communicated and reflected accurately on Google, Yelp, and their website. The way this was handled made an already hungry and tired customer feel rushed and uncomfortable. Sadly, I don't plan on returning. Food was okay. read more

OK so I used to love this place. Been coming here for years. Sadly, the portions have gotten smaller and the prices have inflated. The staff is awesome. Always kind. Never any quality issues. They owners are very cool. The place is very laid back. The orange chicken is awesome. I love that they put so many veggies with it. On the more saucey side, sweet and tangy. The chick satay is good. So are the pot stickers. Great quality ingredients. Cashew nut chicken is great. Pineapple freids rice is decent. Pad Thai is just OK. I still visit on occasion, but have gone to other spot that have bigger portions for less cost, equally great quality. I recommend this spot if you're in the area. read more

Stopped by Pimai for a post-hike lunch on Boxing Day. They're located in a small plaza with some parking spots, otherwise there's plenty of street parking nearby. We came by Thursday around 1:30 pm and it wasn't crowded at all. We opted to sit outside on their patio since it was a nice day out. They have a good selection of Thai dishes. I shared the pad thai ($15 + $2 for chicken) and the Thai BBQ chicken ($24) with a friend. Both were good, and portions for the BBQ chicken were bigger than expected. Just happened to see this place and decided to try it. The interior is nice but I was skeptical to order based on the prices. I ordered the Pineapple Chicken and shrimp fried rice to my dismay. The food was tasty but it was lacking the meat - I only received 2 medium shrimp and 4 very small and thinly sliced pieces of chicken nuggets. In addition, I had to keep going up to the cash register for napkins, more water, a to go box, a for the bill. Needless to say, I paid $25 for pretty much rice. read more

I started coming here about 17 years ago. It was a great place then. Brought a lot of people here and the consensus was it was worth the trip. They now have outside seating - so bring the pups!! Parking out front of across the street at the Gelson's ( ) The ambience is also very soothing. They play mellow rock over the speakers at a decent volume so you can enjoy a conversation with whomever you are dining with. I ordered the Steamed Potstickers - Pork, Spicy Eggplant w/ Beef (Spicy!), Brown Rice, and Mango Sticky Rice. There will be leftovers!! Yay!! The decor is apropos. When you sit inside of you aren't facing the street you'll feel like you're not here. There is one lady and one man (chef). They were preparing for the Saturday rush so she was buzzing about. I took my food ToGo and when I got home I realized they had forgotten the dumplings. I called and was told by the lady to come back and pick them up. I wasn't too far away. When I got there she handed me the dumplings apologized and also handed me a Thai Ice Tea. It was unexpected but appreciated. And it's smart business because she turned a bad situation around. The food was delicious! The eggplant wasn't overcooked. The dish wasn't greasy. The Mango Sweet Rice was tasty and refreshing. The mango was perfect. The dumplings were another hit. I appreciate this family owned business that serves up DELICIOUS FOOD ! My favorite is: 1. Shrimp fried rice (black people's GO-TO, lol) 2. Pad-Thai with chicken & extra eggs. So yummy. 3. Orange chicken is my husband and son's favorite. 4. This wonderful place had some of the tastiest orange chicken I've ever had. Not only was the chicken actually crispy, but the flavor profile was divine. With hints of ginger and an enticing aroma of peppers and onions, it left a very satisfying and mouthwatering taste that gave me a new found appreciation for thai food. What a great spot for Thai food on the outskirts of Thai town! You don't have to deal with busy Hollywood Blvd here and parking is super easy in the lot out in front. There's even a nice outdoor patio if you want to dine outdoors. The service is quick and the servers are very friendly. We got a bunch of things and it was all solid. You can go wrong with pad thai or pad see ew. We also got yellow curry and tom kha soup which were nice on a chilly night. I just wish the portion sizes on the curry and soup were a little bigger. Both were very flavorful. We ordered the Thai bbq chicken and it was decent. The closer you get to the center, the dryer the meat is but you can just ask for more of the sweet chili sauce and it'll mask the dryness. This is a solid spot for Thai food when you don't want to deal with the craziness at some of the other spots in the area. read more

We just ate here for the first time , living in this neighborhood for 3.5 years. The dishes are quite amazing; we are sitting outside and enjoying the August weather, and the awesome food. Their brown rice appears to be black "forbidden" rice, which is my favorite. The Tom kha soup is great. A bit sweet, but they all are at Thai restaurants. Super recommend this restaurant. read more

Was here earlier today 2/16 with a friend and my dog for a late lunch post hike. It was around 3pm and there was a party of 3 inside that arrived around the same time as us, a gentleman picking up a to-go order and later 2 women joined us on the patio. We ordered the shrimp rolls as appetizer, a fresh coconut for me and friend got Thai iced tea. The presentation of the dishes and drinks was lovely. The Thai tea was yummy and my coconut was fresh and sweet! I wonder where they source their coconuts from. I felt like I was in Thailand as I drank it. The shrimp rolls tasted very fresh and the sauce with it was a cross between peanut sauce and curry. For entrees we ordered the duck curry and the pad wood sen. I really enjoyed the glass noodle dish (pad wood sen). The duck curry wasn't bad just not sure I would order again. I had read on the tips that they offer a happy hour! Prices are very reasonable. Came in for lunch today and there was hardly anyone there. I started to wonder if this place was good and if I should stay. But the ambiance was cute and it was kind of nice to get away from the hustle and bustle. And after I had my incredible meal I was so happy I stayed put. I was disappointed that the business wasn't claimed so they probably won't see this but I thought this was one of the best and most authentic Thai food experiences I have had recently. We came here on the way to Griffith Observatory on a whim and thanks Yelp for having this listed! I highly recommend the house specials: Seafood Pad Thai was awesome! Green Papaya salad and the Pimai tofu hand rolls were terrific! We had real coconuts with coconut water for drinks. Very fun! This is our neighborhood go-to Thai spot. Not sure that I'd go out of my way to order from or come here if I couldn't walk here from home (just because there's so much good thai food in LA) but as-is, Pimai is a solid option for (somewhat Americanized) Thai food. If you are in the mood for super authentic Thai dishes go further east into Thai town, but this will do for your traditional Thai food. I'd say this is a small step above Palms Thai. We've tried a variety of dishes including the basil stir fry, orange chicken, basil noodles, and papaya salad, all of which are good but none of those are a must-get stand out. The special must-get item is the mango and sticky rice; it's seasonal, so order it whenever you can. The fresh rolls are a generous portion size and among the better that I've had from take out Thai spots. We've slowly been upping for spice level and have gotten to a "4" and while it had a small kick was still not that spicy to us (high tolerance) so next time we will opt for a full 5. Everything is made to order here so you can customize anything to your liking. read more

Pimai isn't as good as the best places in Thai town, but if you want the experience nearby without dealing with all the hassle that comes with Thai Town (namely the parking situation), you can do worse than settle for Pimai. They have a parking lot! Makes for a great dinner after a show at UCB, or if you need to double-dip with a grocery run to Gelson's, or if you need a palette cleanser after an unfortunate trip to the scientology center. All the traditional Thai dishes here are good. My only knock is the slow service, as they understaff, which really bogs down busier nights. read more

I'm sad to write this review because this is my neighborhood Thai place - THEY DON'T TAKE FOOD ALLERGIES SERIOUSLY. Twice I've received onions in spite of conversations during ordering about how this is a food allergy and not a preference. The first time was a weak apology, the second time they accused us of lying about the onions even being present "because the kitchen said they didn't put any onions in," and then they called back to admit there were onions after all and promise us "a free coconut soup with no onions next time" - ummmm no?! there will not be a next time?! It was still happy hour for drinks, draft beers were only $3.5 each, we had Sapporo and Singha, their happy hour is from 11am-6pm. The menu was small for a Thai restaurant, we decided on vegetable tofu soup, duck fried rice and spicy garlic chicken stir fry. The food flavors were a bit on the bland side, portions were very small and prices were OK. The food came out extremely slow for some reason, I have never waited that long at a Thai restaurant honestly.
