On Sunday, June 14, 2026, my family and I went to this restaurant after calling ahead to make sure they had the deep-fried trout available. We've come here before only to find out they were sold out, so we called first to avoid wasting a trip. The employee confirmed they had the trout and even took our order over the phone. At no point did anyone ask if the order was for dine-in or takeout. About 20 minutes later, we arrived and were told to take a seat. After we sat down, the manager came over and told us our order had been placed as takeout and that we would not be allowed to eat it in the restaurant. We explained that we called mainly to make sure the trout was available and that we intended to have dinner there with our family. We also explained that nobody asked whether we wanted the order to go or for dine-in. Instead of trying to help or find a solution, she simply repeated that it was against their policy. It was frustrating because the mistake was made by their staff, not by us. We had driven a long distance to eat there, only to be told we couldn't stay because the order had been marked as takeout. What upset me the most was how the situation was handled. My family and I were standing there going back and forth with the manager while other customers watched. It was embarrassing and completely unnecessary. I've been coming to this restaurant for years. I've celebrated birthdays here, brought family members from out of town, and recommended it to friends. Never once have I been treated this way. I wasn't asking for special treatment. I was simply asking them to correct a misunderstanding that their staff created. Unfortunately, the manager showed no concern for the inconvenience or embarrassment caused to my family. Lemme take it back. After a bad experience here 10 years ago with a long black hair in my food, I was begrudgingly dragged back here as my family digs this place. They have my favorite curry in all of Thai town and Hollywood. The yellow curry here SMACKS. Medium spicy is my go to. It's down right delicious. The pad see ew is another dish that we have to get as it's done right and always good. Service here is on point. They are attentive and will refill your glasses with water. The wait staff is cool and the food comes out quick normally. Sometimes you will walk in though and it'll be PACKED. My family and I have been going to Yai for close to 20 years.. It's authentic, delicious Thai food with great service. There are so many delicious things on the menu but I am very partial to the tiger shrimp larb which has quite large pieces of chopped shrimp in it. I also enjoy the catfish curry and the soups and noodles. I am so happy to see that they have survived the challenging economy over the years and are as strong as ever. The food was amazing as always and tho there were quite a lot of people eating, it was still calm and pretty quiet. Got the food right away too. This used to be my go to spot back around 2009. I hadn't come to this location in over 10 years, but I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by. I waited at the front for a while before someone said hello and asked if I was dining in. I was getting my food to go. I ordered Thai tea and chicken panang spicy. This nondescript strip mall restaurant has gotten a lot more expensive in recent years (more than it should) but the food is solid. Not a giant fan of $5.00 for a tea bag or $4,00 for rice for a dish (panang curry) that should already come with it. $17.95 for chicken fried rice also seems excessive but at least it is a large serving.Still $30 for fried rice and a tea is yet another sign that restaurant inflation is out of control. read more

My wife and I have been going to Yai's since we were dating. We love their ambiance and food. Our go to order is the seafood soup with white rice, combination chow mein, and Nam Tok. All that accompanied by a Thai Coffee and either a Thai tea or hot tea. Would definitely recommend to visit them, their service is fast. read more

Yai's is a very unassuming little restaurant from the outside since it is located in a pretty run down looking shopping center. But right when you step inside, it feels warm and welcoming. When we went, it was lively and full of people (always a good sign!) We were seated right away and staff were very friendly. We ordered a Thai iced coffee (this was super strong!), the Tom Kha soup hot pot, bbq duck noodles, and the bbq beef appetizer. Everything was absolutely fantastic! There was plenty of meat in every dish was and it was all juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. My one note would be that the Tom Kha on its own is slightly more bland than Tom Kha I've had from other places, however, if you add the side of chili oil and spices that comes with it, it adds plenty of spice and flavor. The Tom Kha also doesn't seem to come with white rice automatically, so you may need to ask for a side if that's desired. Overall, I'd recommend this spot for some comforting, quality Thai food! read more

Been here a couple of times and this place is by far one of the best Thai places here in LA. Their food is authentic and very tasty. Its a small little quaint restaurant in the heart of Hollywood. Came here on Mother's Day and there was just a little bit of a wait but not too bad. The menu was awesome. We ordered crispy pork belly with Chinese broccoli and OMG... This is my favorite dish on the menu. The pork belly was cooked to perfection and the Chinese broccoli and sauce compliment each other. It was superb and very tasty. We also ordered pad Thai which was also delicious and ordered Satay chicken which I thought was just ok. Overall, great food, service was quick, and plenty of parking. Thai is my favorite food and culture but this Thai restaurant was probably the worst I've ever been to unfortunately. The cleanliness is very far from basic standards. The water cups smelled dirty and our booth was very dirty with food and wetness that we asked to be moved. No one came to take our order for 15 minutes and once our food started coming out, it was one by one. My soup first. My friends mixed vegetables 10 minutes later and our friends pannang curry which seemed like forever after, at least 10 more minutes. It was not enjoyable having to wait for everyone's food. My soup tasted fine until I bit into the chicken. It was rubbery and something seemed off. My friends enjoyed their food even though one also got chicken but it was smothered in sauce so maybe that coverd up the weird texture. We got the check and it was fairly reasonable priced so that's good but 20 minutes after we left my stomach started to hurt. I've never felt this before and as soon as I went to the restroom, I vomited so hard. It was soo strange! Was this food poisoning? I'm not sure but I should've stopped eating my soup after I knew something was up with that chicken. Sorry tmi but I was sooo close to going into the food and health organization as a career so I try to warn people or give praise where it's due and this place just has lots of flags to look out for. read more

Restaurant is casually decorated. With a bright neon "Yai" sign. Simple and clean. Thru have 2 locations, the other one not far off Hollywood Blvd and seems smaller restaurant per my dads information. Ok let's get to the good part. Food~What we Ordered ~ Tom Yum Goong/Shrimp. Was the Perfect sour soup base. Shrimp was huge and good along w the whole button style mini mushrooms. Not diced. ~ Chicken Sate. Came w 5 sticks. Served w toast. Which was an odd pairing. Usually it comes w diced cucumber/red onions pickled in vinegar. I prefer that. I asked about the salad and associate mentioned that a lot of customers didn't like it. Which is odd, that was usually the pairing at all thai restaurants for sate. Chicken was perfectly marinated. Tender and good. I ordered it to go for my son. ~ Papaya Salad was mixed w carrot shreds. This location is a hit & miss for me. I first had Yai's Thai Food at their original location on Sunset Blvd. When they opened this sister location on Vermont, I was happy of course because it was closer to home. When this location first opened, the food was great! I always order the usual of course which is the Crispy Pork Belly sautéed with Chinese Broccoli and lots of garlic. When the right chef is cooking in the back, I suggest you also order the Crispy Catfish (not pictured) which comes with a green apple dipping sauce. The sauce is seasoned with fish sauce, chock full of Thai bird chilies, shallots and garlic. However, as a fair warning, ask the waitress the price for the catfish because it is marked as seasonal. So if you are looking to keep your tab under $75 for dinner, ordering this dish might push it over the $100 range. Another standard is the Beef Salad (Nam Tom) that has grilled beef, lemongrass, cilantro, lime and toasted crushed rice. This salad is so delicious that you'll be wanting more next time. Other staples are the Beef Jerky that you can eat alongside the Papaya Salad. Rarely would I go to a Thai restaurant and order the usuals that most people get: namely, Pad Thai, Tom Yum Goong or Chicken Satay. The next time you go, I suggest be adventurous and try new things otherwise other than whah you're used to. Once in a while, when I'm in the area and I want fast, decent Thai food, I stop by this branch. However, if you're looking for Thai food that has that authentic hole-in-the-wall vibe, I suggest you drive into Thai town in West Hollywood and give it a try! read more

Been going to Yai Thai for the past 15+ years. They have a smaller location on Hollywood, but I now opt to go to this location because of it being much larger. I went here for my birthday on Easter Sunday with a party of 15 and it was packed much larger than usual. Parking was easy with the large lot available. Not too loud, nice casual place. Fried beef/beef jerkey is my go to order, a dish that's not a lot of options for many Thai spots which makes Yai stand out. It's tough to bite and rip off, but once you do it's delicious. I usually pair this with steamed rice and another one of my favorite dishes. It comes with a sauce that I don't like for my taste, but many who I was with love it. Fried pork with chinese brocolli is a great addition veggies with a soft broth and tasty pork with crispy parts. I like to pour the broth on my rice to give it a little flavor. Pad see ew isn't their strong suit. It's fairly standard and doesn't offer much compared to others I've tried. Nice combination if you're looking for noodles, but would suggest others. Third time here and extremely disappointed. My daughter called in an order and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes and saw several people waiting inside (6 feet apart) for their order. After waiting for about ten minutes, I approached the employee and inquired about my order. She told me there was a large order ahead of me. I asked someone there how long has he been waiting and he said so far 40 minutes! I than explained to her that she shouldn't tell someone calling in an order that the food would be ready in 15 minutes when in reality it was going to be much longer. I immediately asked for a refund and left. Some other person also left after hearing the wait time In all fairness, the other two visits were fine. About 2 months ago, my mom went with my brother for seafood soup, however the service was abysmal. The server told my mom that since they were a small table of only 2 patrons, the table with 15-20 patrons were more important that and were at a higher priority and that because of that they were not going to provide service to the small table of 2. While we do understand that a table of 15-20 patrons does require more attention, it was not correct for the server to basically say that my mom and brother were not important to the business. I am truly disappointed in this service and hope the server understands that all patrons are important as we are all paying for our food and not expecting any handouts. Do better. read more

I love this place so much and no longer coming back. I never noticed they were charging their own tip, and in order to eat in person I have to leave a tip. Which I always do their service is always 10/10 so when I asked about the 18% tip they got mad at me and cussed me out. When asked about where on the menu it says automatic 18% tip she got really defensive. I wanted to leave a tip in cash instead of my card and I don't think she understood what I meant and thought I didn't want to tip. She called me the B word and kicked me out. You will pay just as much as an eat-in meal, but only receive half the food. This seems very sleazy to me, and I won't be making the same mistake again.
