My wife and I celebrated our 32nd anniversary at Patton's Steakhouse in the Heights. I did my research of steakhouses in Houston before I made a selection. I've been to a few, so I wanted somewhere I had not visited before, independent, known for high-quality food, and a unique dining experience. I was intrigued by what I read about Patton's. Frankly, I had never heard about it before, but I decided to make the reservation and told my wife to be ready for a special evening. Turns out I hit a home run! This little place charmed our socks off!! The ambiance is off the charts. It is quaint. It is unique. It has the coolest vibe of any steakhouse I have visited in Houston, and that's saying a lot. It's truly one of those places you have to visit in order to appreciate. A candlelight dinner,white tablecloths, decorated in a classy manner, friendly and knowledgeable wait staff, and the right amount of lighting. Again, this place has lots and lots of ambiance. It reminded us of a couple of small and independent steakhouses we have visited in New York City. It had that kind of vibe. As for the food, it was good. I would say it's no different than Taste of Texas, Vic & Anthony's, or Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. One might say they noticed some differences, but I have been to all of them. All taste good, but if you want a really cool and unique dining experience, bring your significant other to Patton's. We were enamored with this place. Unique ambiance in the Heights. They deserve four stars, but unfortunately due to miss guided policy and apparent lack of ability they choose to turn away parties of eight, but Six is OK... They charge a minimum of $125 regardless of what you eat. Unfortunately the entrées here average about $60 a glass of wine or a beverage it's around $10-$12 so unless you plan on encouraging yourself you're gonna be charged double for your meal . I feel that this review is necessary as I've eaten here multiple times, and the food is very good. The atmosphere is unique, and the service was wonderful. But I will call out a business that chooses to take advantage of a customer or their party. read more

Phenomenal service. Cocktails were delicious!! My husband and I had a dirty martini, whiskey sour and a French 75 (with cognac). The steak was absolutely Devine!! The caesar salad was delicious but the fish slices on it were unexpected, so make sure and ask to have them serve it without if you're not into anchovies. The brownie cheesecake is heavenly. I never write reviews but this is hands down the best steak I have ever had in Houston. The sides were also incredible and the service was top-notch. We decided to sit at the bar and our bartender ( Ricky) delivered the most incredible cocktails and was super friendly. It also didn't hurt that the atmosphere was romantic and flat-out sexy. My only advice is to bring a sweater because the restaurant is really chilly. read more

The food is always the primary focus of my reviews and if it was the only criteria, Patton's would have had a resounding 5 star review. The food was so good that a couple of unfortunate issues only dropped the review to 4 stars. The Speakeasy space hidden behind the wine cellar at Savoir was even more impressive than I had anticipated. My wife and I opted for "bungalow" seating which were raised two top tables in the bar area semi enclosed to make them more private and intimate. It was a very nice and romantic touch. On our next visit, we will probably sit out in the main restaurant in order to get a view of more of the goings on throughout the service. We were famished when we arrived. First on the list of our dining experience was the tuna tartare. Likely the best tuna tartare I've had. The combination of texture, flavor, and a little heat was outstanding. It was interesting that the tartare was not served with any sort of chip/toast/cracker to go along with the tartare. It was still awesome. We then shared the Caesar Salad. This was my kind of Caesar. Firm little gem lettuce, and assertive dressing that insures you know what kind of salad you are eating. Another outstanding dish. Plenty for two to share. For our entrees we ordered the only seafood selection - The Sea Bass as well as a 16 oz ribeye. At any steakhouse the quality of the ribeye is the deciding point on whether I will return. This was a quality cut of meat, with proper marbling cooked to a perfect medium rare. The seasoning is where some steakhouses miss the beat. Not Patton's. Just the perfect amount of salt and pepper to bring out the beefy flavor but also not overpowering it. Great job on the steak. The seabass was the thick Chilean version which is not my wife's favorite. She prefers European seabass and from the online pictures she thought that was what we would be getting. It was our fault for not asking. In any event, the seabass was cooked and seasoned well. I think it would be nice if they had at least one more seafood option, but it is a steakhouse. The mashed potato and broccolini sides both hit the mark as did the chocolate cake for dessert (only two options for dessert). A+++ for food. Why 4 stars. Small points off for service. Our dinner started at 5:45 before the restaurant go busy. Service at this point was excellent and friendly. As the restaurant got busy, the service remained friendly, but it became much less attentive. There was a big break from the time our entrée plates were removed to when we were offered the opportunity to order dessert. The bungalow tables make it more difficult to make eye contact and flag down waitstaff. Still the service was fine. The real reason for the drop in a star had to do with the seabass dish. Even though the seabass was cooked well and tasty it wasn't butchered properly. There were several large bones that had to be dealt with. The bones were big enough that you certainly didn't want to accidently swallow one. Last but not least, about halfway through the seabass my wife noticed a hair in the sauce on the dish. I asked her if it could have been one of our hairs as we had passed the dish back and forth. She fully believes the hair came with the dish. We did mention the bones and the hair to our server when she picked up the plates. We would have hoped that at least there would have been an apology. None came. In the end, that's OK. I will write off the issues with the seabass dish as a blip and one that is unlikely to happen upon return visits. The food, especially the tartare, steak, salad and sides were really that good. Let me tell you why 1- we got there and gave our car to the attendant - easily doors opened hands outstretched to help me out :) Door opened to main entry and welcomed. Quickly walked thru to the back to pattons as they eschewed pride over the speakeasy style entrance to Pattons. While it was cute it was super fast and you miss that "moment" of transition to Pattons. We were sat and greeted our server was welcoming and knowledgeable. My Sangiovese wine was a amazing Bread was ok, focaccia was good tasted like Thanksgiving:) We orders mushrooms, ribeyes and fries with aioli First the rib-eyes were seasoned beautifully WOW!! Cooked perfectly. Mushroom and fries were just ok, they missed on flavor same for the aioli. Again steak was amazing service great sides could use more umami... Would I go back again? I would try it again. But there are many more steakhouses in Houston to try... when I look at the menu and quality of steak served I am looking for a whole experience similar to my fav NY steak houses like Gallaghers, old homestead, Does in Arkansas, or Wolfgang's in Hawaii. I visited Patton's Steakhouse on a Wednesday evening with a friend - we wanted to check it out and try a cocktail or two! We made reservations a few days in advance. Parking is valet only. We opted to park off of Heights Blvd and walk over 1 block. Once we arrived, the host guided us past the bar, through the wine cellar, and into Patton's. Lighting was moody, and I loved the vibe. It was pretty dead the night we went; only 2 other tables dined. Service was great; our waitress was attentive and offered several suggestions for cocktails, starters, and entrees. For cocktails, we tried The Bandito (delicious!) and a drink that consisted of vodka, raspberry, and cava (the name fails me, but it was a little too sweet for my taste). We both opted for the waldorf salad (would recommend) and then split the chocolate cake (so rich, but a must!). Will definitely revisit Patton's and try one of their entrees. read more

I really wanted to go 4.5 stars for Pattons but there is no option for that. Barring a couple of quirky things during the meal I feel this review could have made it to 5. It was fun being guided to the ding area through the hidden door in the wine display. My wife had no idea where we were going. It was alot of fun and really added to the speakeasy vibe. The dining area is dark and intimate. Some areas more so than others. In case you are wondering, the Bungalo area is back by the bar and looks like it consists of 3 slightly elevated wooden booths. Atmosphere for the speakeasy was dark intimate and what I expected. If they had some additional booths that are more private it would be perfect. Note. My older cell phone camera really struggled with the lighting soooo not so many photos. Service from our waiter was good with periods of very good. It was not rushed and he was very knowledgable of the menu. It was what you would expect from a higher end dining experience. There was one exception and it sort of baffled me. We ordered a bottle of the Tempernillo and it was served correctly right to the point that I took a sip to taste and determined that they opened an ice cold bottle of wine. This wasnt a chill from the wine cellar which is fine but had to be 38 degrees. It was returned and another bottle was brought out but what waste on what should be an easy thing to spot. Here is the list of what we had and how Pattons fared. Drinks: Hemmingway Daquiri. Very tasty but I am not an expert on this drink so my opinion does not reflect in my rating. Gin and Tonic. According to my wife who loves these, this was one of the best she has ever had. It was tasty and the fragrant fresh Rosemary really made it exceptional. 5 stars Apps Bread service. It was good but not worth the price for 4 small yeast rolls that really didnt stand out in any way. Just a filler that frankly I could have gone without. 4 stars. Crab Cakes. Another item that was good but not outstanding. Plating was odd in that they covered the crabcakes with a slaw and spread the sauce along the sides of the plate. I've had much better at other places but these were good. Better plating could have elevated my thoughts on this. 3.5 stars Wedge salad. I really enjoy a good wedge salad in a steakhouse. They treated it correctly bringing a fresh steak knife. The actual dish is where I found this very quirky. They brought out shredded lettuce with 2 whole strips of bacon on top. The flavor of they salad was very good but shredding it like a slaw is not correct. This should be an easy dish to prepare but frankly the idea that the wedge is shredded is probably one of my main gripes. Dressing and other toppings were plentiful and the salad was tasty. Fix the lettuce and its 4.5 stars. As it was 3. Dinner. Ribeye cooked med rare. This was cooked perfect and exactly as expected for an upper end steakhouse. The seasoning was on point. The highlight of the meal for me. 5 stars Petite Filet for my wife. She asked for med well but it was probably closer to medium. They butterflied it like we asked for and she really enjoyed the steak. It could have been cooked a little longer for her 4.5 stars. Sides. Broccolini. I really enjoyed the char flavor of the al dente broccoli. I might ask for the sauce they drizzle onit to be on the side. My wife loved it but I felt like it overwhelmed the broccoli. 4.5 stars Creamed corn. A rich creamy corn with a solid pieces of corn. Its what I expect from the dish. The wife again loved it. 5 stars Dessert. They only have 2 options which are a chocolate cake or a goat and cream cheese cheesecake. We opted for the cheesecake. It was tasty but not really a standout to me. Another dish where plating was just a bit sloppy. 3.5 stars. Over all we really like the vibe of the speakeasy steakhouse. One party in the dining area must have thought it was a bar and was so loud that it kind of took away the ambiance but ya cant let that ruin a date night. I would go back and pair the meal down some. For me, the overall is 4.5 stars and could very easily be elevated to 5. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner. There is valet ($6) or street parking, and the restaurant is located behind the bar area / wine cellar. It's a small and intimate space, with lamps (you can adjust lighting - 4 different intensities) on each table. I started with the gin martini, which was delightful and very strong. The waldorf salad was refreshing and an excellent start to the meal. For mains, my dining partner and I shared the sea bass and a petit (6oz) filet mignon. They did the medium rare very well, and the champagne beurre blanc that accompanied the bass was light, yet flavorful. I thought the mushroom side was good but not overly special. The server made some recs for wine by the glass, and I went with the Burgundy, which I really enjoyed. For dessert, we opted for the goat cheesecake (there are 2 options, this or a chocolate cake), and it was phenomenal. The tanginess and sweetness complemented each other well. We had a delightful dinner at Patton's Steakhouse. The food is a great option for a celebration steak meal, and the restaurant is beautiful. Our server encouraged us to to the appetizers/salads family style, followed by individual entrees, and we followed his advice--I liked it. Here's what we tried: -Waldorf salad: Delicious--it was almost like a chicken salad topped a couple of small beds of gem lettuce. If I had to order my own appetizer/salad, I'd pick the waldorf salad. -Chop salad: To be honest, I'm not a big bleu cheese fan, but I did enjoy stealing an entire slice of bacon off the top of this salad! -Crab cakes: While I loved the waldorf salad, the crab cakes come in a close second. There are two crab cakes, large enough to split if needed. Very good! -Bread service: You must order the bread service. While a little disappointing that bread isn't complimentary, the bread is so good and worth the $12. -Filet: Solid, classic choice. -Sides: We ordered mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and broccolini, and all were great. The mashed potatoes were a little chunky, but I loved the tasty creamed corn. The broccolini was great too and made me feel like I was at least trying to be a little healthy. -Desserts: Patton's Steakhouse has only two desserts, and both were delicious: one was a high-quality cheesecake, and the other was a chocolate cake dripping in a thin chocolate icing and then with a denser icing (like oreos) between the cake layers. If I had to pick one, I'd go with the chocolate, but I do have a chocolate obsession! Service varied but was overall good. I went here to enjoy my birthday dinner and it was also our first time there the place was beautiful ambiance was nice but service wasn't up to par on what we usually expect. Upon receiving my plate we weren't asked our steak was cooked to our desire, my shrimp was brought out cold, and there was multiple times we had to wait for our wine to be poured while the surrounding tables were being waited to several times. Special treat was 2 glasses of cheap champagne with no birthday cake, no candle if we ordered a separate dessert, no hbd greeting from waiter. Waiter said he would have a hbd presentation on a plate, which would have been nice for a birthday photo. But we got nothing. All that aside, the worst part of our evening.. our waiter started great then went MIA middle of our dinner NEVER to return. Stayed there with no service for a lengthy time. We ordered an Irish coffee (right before the waiter went missing) which was good. However the second cup tasted terrible and then we were asked what ingredients we wanted to redo the cup. Um, the same recipe as the first cup? They redid the beverage and terrible the second time. Terrible dinner for a special occasion. We sat in the bar area in the 'bungalow' seating which are essentially tall booths that allowed for a more private experience. Our server was also the bartender but was very attentive. Great steak in Houston isn't hard to find. There are a lot of great places. Patton's is definitely top tier though. The atmosphere was great and the service was spot-on. The steaks are superb and the sides are just as good. We were seated at the first table when you walk in and it's one of the darkest. Don't go. My boyfriend and I love Savoir and we were very excited to try their "speakeasy" steak house. The dinner started out decently enough. Our waiter the night of March 23rd was amazing. Very attentive and kind. The seating in the bungalows section was private and gave the more speak east vibe than the open area dining room. We started with a wonderful bottle of red wine and then got two appetizers. The first was the "bread service." As others have mentioned not bad but not worth 12 dollars. The shrimp also left a lot to be desired. Then we ordered our steak which was a filet to be medium which took approximately 25 minutes to come out. They called it "seared" but my mouth quickly filled with black gritty char so overwhelming I was chugging water and reaching for anything to cleanse my mouth out. I'm not talking "we ordered medium and got medium well" I'm talking I didn't taste any meat, hunk of coal, charrrred. Our waiter quickly took it away and apologized while the manager, in a condescending tone, said "sorry it wasnt perfect." Alright so we try again. Chef brings out a second steak another 25 minutes later. Also inedible. The manager comped our bread and shrimp....thanks...while saying sorry he must have been in a hurry. Not sure which was worse, the steaks or her excuses and demeanor. There are a lot of wonderful steak houses in Houston. Try anywhere else. We enjoy Savoir and had looked forward to this as well. The ambience is fantastic. The steaks were lovely - nicely seared and flavorful and cooked perfectly to the requested temperatures. The salad and sides were lackluster and disappointing. We split a wedge salad but, even combined, it would have been tiny. It was not a legitimate steakhouse wedge. I was not sure the mashed potatoes weren't from a box and they were not served hot or even warm. The mushrooms were flavorful but they were not interesting at all - not high quality caps and stems - felt like they came out of a can and then were sautéed. The waiter did not seem interested in us at all - I assume it was because we were two women and waitstaff often assumes women will not tip well. So we tipped 20% on food and drink and tax, issues notwithstanding, just to prove a point. We want to go back. Atmosphere is super cool and we pretty much always have good luck at Savoir. Hopefully it will be better if we try it again. Again, atmosphere good and steaks nicely prepared but significant other issues. read more

I've been to almost every steak restaurant in Houston, And this place will be a last resort option for me. 3 stars only because the drinks were amazing, but that doesn't make up for the slow service. drinks were slow, food was slow, 1 restroom not often serviced, $12 for bread and butter.... Which would be ok if it came with bells and whistles. I had the filet mignon, broccolini and Caesar salad, absolutely no flavor! I didn't complain, ate my meal and continued with the night. I've been coming to Savoir for 2 years now! Just recently learned they have a "secret" steakhouse. When my guests and I arrived, the hostess was very pleasant and excited to show us through the secret entrance behind the bar! Once we were seated we were greeted by the staff immediately and given a brief run down on the menu. We started with the tartar and bread rolls. If I was stranded on a deserted island, I would just ask for these things and be happy. I had the wagyu steak and a side of corn. Never in my life have I smiled so big after one bite!! My first visit to Patton's was last night, it won't be my last. The bar area was intimate and cozy, the color palette was inviting. I ordered the 7 oz petite filet, medium rare. It was cooked perfectly, crispy char on the outside, with a warm pink center. The steak spoke for itself, nothing needed, no salt, no pepper, nothing but the succulent taste of beef. Strangest set up. Speakeasy. wish i would have tried Saviou instead of Patton. You have to walk back through the bar, by passing all the employees to go to a very dark restaurant in back. We were having so many problem adjusting to the little light they had in there. Couldn't read our menu, so we brought out our cell phone light. When the food came out, my steak was over cooked, my mashed potatoes were so bland, and even my wedge salad was the worst I've ever tasted, we went onto the dessert part. The six layer cake was the worst, I tried my friends, crème brûlée, and that was very watery and a horrible taste.
