I don't understand the hype. My husband and i split an order of the $16 plate of Danish pancakes with apples, (it was plenty for both of us). They were flatter than traditional pancakes, didnt taste much different, and somehow our bill was $33! They didn't give me an itemized receipt. First time coming here. It was recommended by a colleague. Didn't know it was going to be the Christmas parade on the same day, so it was very very busy. They have an interesting waitlist system, but it is one that makes sense for an extremely popular brunch spot. They move people through pretty quickly, and that comes down to fast table service. Within 10mins of ordering, food was delivered to the table. The outside ambiance is nice on a sunny yeah like this one. Weather was near perfect for outdoor seating. The chicken fried steak was very good, the hash browns look like they're homemade. I didn't care for the biscuit. I don't know if it was cooked all the way because I still had the doughy after-taste in my mouth hours later. Waitress was Jennifer and she provided decent table service. Walked over at 7:00am because I needed some good coffee and mom needed to eat. Service was very friendly. There were 3 families already there. Got there at the perfect moment. After we were seated, people continued to steadily arrive. The coffee was delicious. Mom ordered the scrambled eggs with ham plate and a biscuit. I had a simple 2 eggs and a biscuit. Biscuit was perfectly done and perfect size. Friendly, homey feeling. As busy as they were getting, never felt rushed. Will definitely stop by again. Need to try the pancakes. read more

Came here for brunch. The spot is a perfect little spot on the Main Street. Love the vibes and ambiance of the location. The customer service was perfect. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Ordered their famous danish pancake combo with hash browns and scrambled eggs. The pancakes were amazing. 5 star for sure. Don't let the thin size fool you. We did get seated quickly,counter space, but we had to deal with flys . Yes it was raining but the small lobby area quickly became full with people standing around. Waitress never came to close out the tab so we had to make our way through the crowd just standing around. Simple ask of the wait staff for people to stand outside under the awning would have fixed that problem. Nothing outstanding about the food. Paula's Pancake House is a staple when stopping in Solvang, specifically for breakfast. Living nearby, my family has come lots of times on an early morning for some food! My go-to for a long time was the Danish pancakes with strawberries and whip cream! It's never failed me. Paired with a warm beverage it's an incomparable way to start the day. The last couple of times I've gone, I ordered some eggs with fruit and a biscuit. Admittedly, the recent time I got this dish the biscuit was kind of hard (1/3 of it) and the fruit had seen better days. I wonder if we came on an off day since some relatives were visiting from out of town and admitted to some faults within their own orders. I nonetheless give it five stars since, other than this occasion, it's been a very consistently delicious endeavor with friendly staff. Came here on our drive back up to nor cal. They sat us down very fast (4 people), the server was great, the place was big enough, the food was AMAZING and filled us up. Def not the best place to eat here, more of tourist trap vs an actual local spot to experience "Solvang". Drip coffee isn't even refillable and I was charge extra, coffee beans wasn't even the greatest. I've been to a decent amount of local place to know what good and what's not, the amount I've spent for the items is overpriced. I wouldn't recommend this place at all, try another spot. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is delightful but the highlight is the excellent level of service! We came on a Wednesday for lunch. We waited a bit at the hostess stand to be acknowledged. There was about a 20 min wait for the quickest table & we ended up sitting indoors. The seating was a little cramped. The ambiance was aged, but it's the old school vibe of a place that's been an institution in Solvang for a while. There are lots of hanging plants, intricate lace curtains, & art on the walls. The unisex restrooms seemed well maintained. There were areas around the ceiling with spiderwebs. What we ordered-- Paula's Special with the Warm Cinnamon Apples option--Don't let the thinness fool you into thinking this won't be filling. The pancake was tasty, the apples were a comforting topper, & the cold whipped cream was nice & thick. Syrup was thin, but sweet. Buttermilk Pancake Combination with poached eggs & sausage patty options--A really good breakfast combo of solid pancakes, flavorful sausage patties, & eggs that were well cooked. The server even asked to what doneness we wanted them poached. Kids Hamburger meal with added cheese, fries, lemonade options--Little one was a happy eater. Went for breakfast on Wednesday morning about 8 AM. We were able to get seated immediately at a comfortable table in the corner. Fast and friendly service. My danish pancakes were delicious though I did find a little bit of eggshell within my eggs. It was on the last bite, so there didn't complain, but on the plus side you know they use real eggs! Serving up traditional danish style pancakes that are absolutely yummy. Breakfast portions are great and I think everything on the menu is solid. My 2 toddlers shared a kids meal ($10) of 4 dollar pancakes (referring to size, not price) with fruit. The fruit was a little old, but it was a good sized meal for them to split. Service was ok. Came around 7:30 on a Sunday in early August. Got a table outside for 5 no problem. It was a little chilly, but I was fine without a jacket. A larger party came like 10-20 min later and got a table inside..so it could just come down to timing when you come early. It didn't fill up until like 8:20ish? Even then, it was still a short wait. When we drove by on Saturday morning around 10:30, it was packed and looked like it had a long wait. It was a decent meal. Best option for a "danish" breakfast that I saw. Service- We didn't wait too long to sit a party of five. I say roughly about 15-20 minutes, but there's stores nearby to explore and shop while you wait. Last time we came here the food was better. Today not so much. The scrambles egg were extremely dry. The cheese on top of the Denver omelette was cold and not melted. The water cup was dirty and still had someone else's lipstick on the rim. Totally gross especially because I wasn't wearing anything on my lips at all. Got here around 7:45 am and we got the last outside seating for two. Weather was perfect to sit outside. As we waited people kept coming. Get here early if you want to get in quickly. Server came quickly to give us coffee and take our order. The danish pancakes were light, thin and yummy. The poached eggs on the benedict were perfect and the smoked ham was very good. The hollandaise was ok. Overall the egg benedict was very good. Probably my biggest complaint was once our server brought us our food she didn't return. Not sure where she went. Had to get attention of another server to bring us more coffee and another to get the check. Once we got the bill it took another waitress, that we called over, to process our card. We weren't in a hurry but felt badly that we were holding a table for 10 minutes just waiting for someone to take our credit card. So many of my friends told me I had to go here and I'm so happy they did! We woke up early as I heard it gets very busy. At 8am on a Monday it was already almost full. We got a table inside and were helped immediately. The waitress gave us time to look over the menu and let us ask questions. I got the eggs Benedict with lox and it was amazing! Honest review: 1) They should put a screen door to prevent fly moving inside the restaurant if they don't want to close the door. 2) Servers should be more organized and accomodating with the customers. 3) Food was served fast and with it comes to taste it was average and overpriced. 4) Tried the capuccino coffee and personally think it was just average.
