Food Came straight here after our 3 hr drive from LA, craving a really good brunch spot. Haven't been here before but this was one of the recommended spots, so decided to give it a try. We ordered a corned beef hash and the Paula's special pancakes. The food was really good and hit the spot. The corned beef hash with eggs were well made and not overly salty, and the pancakes were dutch pancakes which lean on the thinner side with some fresh fruit(we picked strawberries). Overall, we enjoyed the food and nothing really much to complain. Service/Ambiance For a Friday 10am brunch for 2 people, waiting was around 15-20 mins which wasn't too bad. We were given outdoor seating, but overall the place had a lot of tables. The servers were nice and service was pretty quick as well. Loved the vibe of the place and the outdoor seating really gives your european vibes with the solvang cityscape
GETTING HERE: Located in Solvang, on the main drag through the city. Per their website, they are on the north side of Mission Drive between 4th Place and 5th Street. Parking can be ridiculous, just FYI. I would probably recommend looking straight off for a public parking lot if you're headed here. To maximize your time. REVIEW: First-timers. Sadly, we were completely underwhelmed. Very saddened by this. But, as is my motto, we will give them one more try as hoping this was a one-off. Food: The pancakes were OK? I mean, I didn't see the hype. Again, marking this up to the one-off visit, hopefully. They were good, of course, but didn't seem any different than from other restaurants. We ordered eggs over-medium, and they were runny. But, nothing terribly major. Service: Now, here's the bad news. Our service was horrid. Just horrid. But, as we observed the other customers, their service was on point. Servers and wait staff were hustling, just not for us. It was so unnerving. Finally, who I can only assume was a lead/manager, came to greet us and take our order. She apologized profusely and stated that our server had gotten held up with something. She was pretty helpful, thankfully, but then it was another server who delivered our food and she. did. not. even. say. boo. to. us. Ambiance: It's very quaint, I love it. Very Solvang-rich. Overall, it was a solid 2.5 visit, rounding up because Solvang. Hopefully, will update soon with better experience.
Long wait but worth it! Visited on a Saturday for some late morning breakfast. I expected it to be busy so we had about a 45 minute wait. Once seated we were served quickly and the servers were on top of things. Considering how busy it was everyone was nice and we were never waiting long to be helped. The dining room feels like an old house which I just love. We both got the California special omelette with bacon and Danish sausage on the side. The omelette's were so good, fluffy, big, lots of flavors. The pico and ranchero sauce were perfect on top. The bacon was crispy and thick, the Danish sausage was delicious but could have been a bit warmer. We also got mimosas which were so fresh, they use fresh squeezed orange juice made right there in the dining room. I'd go back just for the orange juice alone! All in all a great dining experience before shopping around town. The meal hit the spot and was worth the wait.
Rounded up to 3.75 stars. We arrived to Paula's Pancake House on mother's Day morning at around 8:30am (they open at 7) and we were told it was a 45 minute wait. It's not a very big place and there isn't really much space to wait but people did start forming a line outside waiting to put their name down. You put your name down on a list and are told to return around a specific time frame. They do not offer texting when your place is open so you can't really travel very far. Service: The service there was fair. Understandably so, it was busy and our server didn't come around to us often while we ate. But she was kind and accommodating to our specific dietary needs (without making any faces). Food: so we came with a party of 7 so they accommodated us by joining two tables together. The food we had was okay. My favorite thing there was definitely the danish sausage which was cooked perfectly and had the perfect snap and bite to it. My sister in law said it was too gamey for her but I believe that is just a personal preference. The sausage was well cooked. The danish pancakes were just alright.... I like to think of them more like a crepe since they are relatively thin. We got ours with blueberries and the blueberries were also cooked well. It was lacking in flavor is all I can describe it. The scrambled eggs has absolutely zero salt. I believe they just cooked the eggs and brought it out. Overall I would say this place was underwhelming and I could not for the life of me understand why it gets so jam-packed. In my humble opinion. I think there just aren't that many options of full menu restaurants in Solvang and a lot of bakeries instead. I would come back here again just for the danish sausage since it was quite delicious but next time I'll try another menu item.
It's a nice place to stop because it's nostalgic. The flavor is okay. Pancakes and waffles are awesome! Needed to add salt and pepper to eggs. The waitress was great attentive as much as she could. It's busy place definitely need to get there early extremely early to not have to wait 45min especially with an infant. The place is loud but not enough to yell over each other but loud. I want to say everytime I've been inside due to weather but outside may be different. Overall I suggest to try on own.
First time at Paula's, the Danish pancake stood out right away. It was large and thin, almost crepe like, but packed with flavor. It was genuinely delicious, my son loved it and we finished it quickly. The eggs and sausage on the side were solid as well. We also ordered the country fried steak, which was just as good. Crispy, flavorful, and satisfying without feeling overly heavy. Parking takes a little effort. Street spots can be hit or miss, but there is public parking nearby. The location is also super convenient if you're planning to stop by the Olesons. Service was friendly, and the whole experience felt immersive, like stepping into a small piece of Danish culture.
I will admit this place was quite good. I came for lunch but ordered the Danish pancake with blueberries because why not? Breakfast for lunch, right? Anyways, it was my first time trying Danish pancakes and I enjoyed it! The pancake was thin, almost crepe like. The fruit added that nice touch of berry sweetness to it. While large, I devoured this like there was no tomorrow. After my visit here, I keep thinking about what a wonderful meal I had. The restaurant has a fun vibe and fits perfectly with the Danish town feel.

I was inspired to come here after seeing it on a few different social media channels. I was camping a few miles away from here and decided to stop by before heading home. I got here around 8AM on a Thursday and there was already a line. Since I was solo, I sat at the counter. Service was great. All the waitresses were very attentive and friendly. The Danish pancakes were absolutely delicious! Kinda sucks I paid $20 for 2 pancakes and a cup of coffee. Nevertheless, I was very happy with my meal and I'd absolutely come back in the future.
Read this was the place to eat breakfast if in Solvang. It didn't disappoint. Delicious breakfast. The Dutch pancakes are kinda like crepes. They were good. The sausage was sort of like a mild Italian sausage. Early in the morning they were already busy but we got there early enough to be seated right away. The service was good and friendly. The setting was nice. Made you really feel that Dutch heritage. Defiantly give this spot a try. If you're wondering why 4 stars instead of 5, it's mainly because overall it was a typical regular breakfast. That's literally the only reason. But the place is great! Get there early because when my wife and I left and walked around a little bit there was a crowd outside waiting to be seated. They get busy fast!
Awesome! Long wait but reasonable wait time based on how many people were waiting. Awesome breakfast food. 2nd time going. Only complaint was we needed to 2 tables for a larger party. I understand why the line for this restaurant is very long. Luckily we were able to wake up early and beat the long wait. The restaurant is very cozy with friendly staff who were always attentive to our needs. The food was delicious! Especially the special sausage. I'm usually not a breakfast sausage person but for this sausage I will devour it in seconds. I got the eggs Benedict that had. Very creamy, yet not too salty sauce. The hashbrowns were crispy and soft in the middle. The only thing keeping the review from a 5 star is that I expected my eggs to be gushy and runny but mine were a bit done to the point there was no egg gush. It was still good! It is a pretty popular restaurant and there were a lot of people to serve. There was room to have some errors but in the end we all enjoyed our meals :) it was also my first time up in Solvang and it's very beautiful! It's like a crepe but tastier, topped with powdered sugar for a sweet touch. Each bite is light and delicious, making it a must-try at the restaurant. The server recommended the California special omelet, a popular choice on their menu. The fluffy eggs are cooked to perfection, creating a creamy and flavorful base with jalapenos filling, making that spicy kick. It is paired with a side of toast and a fruit cup; it's a satisfying and well-balanced breakfast option, I would rate the corned beef hash and over-easy eggs as excellent. The flavors complement each other well, and the dish is satisfying and delicious. The review of the French toast and buttermilk pancakes was omitted because although we ordered them, I didn't have the opportunity to try them. SERVICE: The servers were attentive and checked on us often to ensure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. AMBIANCE: We chose to sit on the patio because we had our dogs with us. The outdoor setting provided a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, allowing us to dine comfortably while enjoying the fresh air and the company of our dogs. You can expect excellent food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere at a reasonable price. We were so impressed with the food that we decided to have breakfast at the restaurant one more time before we headed home. TIPS: They open at 0700 - come early or be prepared to wait. The Danish omelette was delicious! It was hot, huge and had a ton of sausage. Our waitress was very nice and attentive to our dining needs with refills without us asking, extra napkins and syrup. A wonderful dining experience, especially for a busy tourist town. read more

We couldn't leave Solvang without a trip to Paula's Pancake House. There's seating both inside and on the large, front patio for those wishing to add a little people-watching to their morning routine. Seating was quick despite the 9:00 breakfast crowd, and service was prompt. Our order arrived in a short time and coffee/beverage refills were also timely and frequent. The food selection ranges from traditional Danish fare to good ol' all-American favorites. I enjoyed the Danish sausage and my wife ordered the Danish pancakes, which are surprisingly flat but flavorful (and you get two that pretty much cover the entire plate). I should also add that prices were not overly expensive and comparable to similar eating establishments in the city. This seems like a popular place for early to midday snacks, but be aware that like most of the area restaurants, Paula's closes early in the afternoon (daily hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Still, it's worth your time to fit this restaurant into your itinerary when visiting Solvang. read more

An absolutely iconic spot if you're passing through Solvang, the Olsen bakery is right next-door. We stopped here as we were heading out. It was about 30 minute wait but the Dutch sausage and Dutch pancakes were a sweet take on crêpes and pancakes. We got strawberries on the side and it was so filling I will definitely be returning just for the Dutch sausage alone. read more
There was a long line when I arrived, but I expected the wait since it was a Saturday morning in December. It took us (party of two) about an hour to get seated at the bar. The food came out almost immediately after ordering, but everything was fresh and hot. I had to get the Danish Pancakes with warm apples, and I really loved it! The pancakes are thin, in between a crepe and a regular pancake. The whipped cream was delicious and not sweet, it added a nice flavor and creaminess to the pancakes. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, but might not be worth the wait for larger parties. read more
The food was amazing from the mouthwatering omelet, blueberry pancakes, waffles, and Danish pancakes. What really topped it was the amazing mimosas. They use fresh oranges. The service was great from the reception to our server. Very attentive. The ambiance was perfect. We sat outside as the wait for inside was 15-20 mins so, we decided to eat outside. We came here the day after Christmas and it was absolutely crowded..there were people standing everywhere blocking sidewalks..absolute madness..we got there a little late around 11:15 am but they weren't accepting anymore names for the waitlist until after 12:30pm. We waited out front and at about 12:25pm they took us in almost immediately. We got seated and our server Myah and she was on it. The food was absolutely delicious and affordable. Not too expensive. This place can't be higher than 3 stars. All the workers were polite. We were seated in about ten minutes when we came on a Wednesday morning. The inside didn't stand out. It was almost warm, so we asked to be seated outside. The outdoor seating was better. Fresh air and a chance to enjoy the scenery. The plants and birds around made the place feel authentic. I ordered the "flat pancakes" it was about $14. I wish they would just call them crepes. When the plate came, I was sad. It looked like so little food for the price. One of the best breakfast joints anywhere but especially in Solvang. This place is usually packed in the morning so get there early. They specialize in eggs, pancakes, and waffles and have a decent sized menu. Our server was Diana/Diane. Grrr. I lost my receipt! She was super nice and went over the menu with us. We ended up getting an all egg breakfast and eggs florentine. They came with hasbrowns, toast, and for us tea. Amazing. Great flavor, good sized, everything you can want from a breakfast. Right in the heart of downtown Solvang, this quaint little brunch spot is well known for its breakfast pancakes. The service was definitely not greatest. I went early the afternoon and it wasn't that packed. I had to stop the waitress and tell her I was ready to order after a while of waiting. The waitress barely asked me if I wanted anything, nor even offer me coffee refills. The service was disappointing unfortunately. The food was ok. The pancakes were nothing subpar with the exception of the fresh strawberries. They have indoor and outdoor dang which is great. The dress attire is definitely cute! Worth trying when in Solvang. Always a line , always crowded , always crammed. With that said alone if you're not into tight low ceiling with old dingy furniture ... take a pass, because the ambiance is beyond vintage. There is seating outside but with the crowds lined up like Disneyland lines watching you eat the most important meal of your day is uncomfortable. Let's have an open imagination ...which with open heart and mind I went into Paula's because one look at the ambiance and I would have never eaten here . I really enjoyed the pancakes , the waffles, and eggs Benedict, was alright . Everything looked slapped together . Personally for me the food does not go hand in hand with the experience. Nothing STACKS up to Paula's Pancakes, and I'll stand by that! Was recommended this spot by a coworker who SWORE the pancakes were so good that she can't eat them anywhere else, and I highly agree. They specialize in danish breakfast, and as their name suggests, their beautifully thin and airy pancakes topped with their fresh, housemade cream is a must order. I opted for the Danish pancake combination (priced VERY affordably at $16 without add-ons), which also comes with 2 eggs and your choice of bacon or their signature Danish sausage, which is also a must-order and one of the BEST I've ever had. We were originally quoted a 50 minute wait that ended up being less than 15 minutes, and I highly recommend sticking it out for one of the BEST breakfasts I've ever had! read more

My boyfriend had the breakfast plate and his food was good too. 5/5 Pricing was fair and it was easy enough to find parking in the surrounding streets. Dropped in for a late breakfast. It's a total throwback to old school diners, probably because it was one and never evolved. Love that! A ton of options on the menu, so surely everyone will find something. Danish pancakes were great. Turkey and swiss sandwich with side salad was good. Basic, and would have been tastier with a better quality bread, but it worked. Service was great and prices are reasonable. Solid! read more

We are so glad we went to try their Danish Pancakes while visiting Solvang. We aren't big fans of pancakes but theirs were so incredibly delicious and light. We got there at 7:30AM on a Friday and were seated immediately. Our waitress Diana was courteous, friendly, efficient and patient. It started to get crowded quickly. Going to Solvang on a Saturday in December, I knew to expect loads of people. The line was fairly long - my party of two arrived at around 11am and we were seated at around noon. Service was QUICK. One thing I really appreciated was the staff being efficient without making us feel rushed to get in and out. Food came out within 10 minutes of ordering and was very tasty. I would definitely come back here, but more so when lines are a bit shorter. read more
The wait for a party of 6 on a Sunday morning was about 30 minutes, which wasn't too bad for all the popularity this place gets. We were seated outside and the server was very friendly and professional. I ordered the eggs benedict with lox which was delicious and filling! This place was recommended by all the Yelp collections I was following so I bookmarked it and me and my family decided to try it for breakfast on our last day in Solvang. We arrived at ~8:00am on Sunday and they already had a a long line and wait list. We were given an estimate of 40-60 minutes. Luckily it was closer to 40 min. We were sat inside. I ordered the Solvang Danish-Style Sausage and eggs with a biscuit. When my plate first arrived, I was disappointed to see the very small serving of hash browns. But honestly it's because I am so used to seeing half my breakfast plate full of hashbrowns. It honestly it was a pretty good plate (considering I had just eaten a cinnamon roll next door at Olsen's bakery. The hashbrowns were a thicker shredding so that was nice to actually taste potato and not just crisped potatoes like thinner hashbrowns. The sausage was juicy with a great flavor. My eggs were cooked just right. The biscuit was definitely not a drop biscuit made of Biquick, it did taste homemade. Our waitress was Eva. She was friendly and attentive. I didn't take any photos of the inside but they had a lot of Christmas decor up. Cute spot and I would recommend this place if you can handle a bit of a wait. Our breakfast for 4 adults was $60. Food was delicious! Do get there early (6am-7am) or you will be out on a wait list. We had a party of 5 and had to wait 45 minutes at 8:30am. Food came out in less than 10 minutes. Lots of inside and outside seating but it was a tad cold so we opted for inside. A must visit for anyone who has never been to this nice little town. read more
MUST TRY in Solvang!! The Danish pancakes were to die for they have the texture of crepes and had a vanilla flavor to them. They have other dishes as well but the danish pancakes are definitely a fan favorite. If you're in the mood for mimosas you can find them here! My boyfriend and I decided to take a road trip to Solvang and he took me to Paul's Pancake House. When we got there we put our names down, approximately 30 min wait. But do stick around sometimes they will call your name earlier (in which they did). But they seated us once we came back on the patio. I got the Dutch Pancake combination with a side of sausage and sunny side up egg. And he got the eggs Benedict. Everything was delicious. Service was great! We came around 10:45 am but their waitlist wasn't going to open up until 12 again. We came back and we were seated in about 10 minutes. The servers were really nice but just really busy. I got the danish pancake combo. They were good but nothing too special. It's just a flat pancake. I was expecting there to be crispy edges. The danish sausage was good and flavorful. It does get pretty packed so I think it's best to get the first available seating. This place is pretty average but still good! read more
Paula's was really great with a bunch of different options. We were able to walk in without a wait. We got the eggs florentine and the danish pancakes. The wait wasn't bad, it was reasonable. The eggs florentine were amazing. The hollandaise sauce was so creamy and rich, and the eggs were cooked to perfection. The danish pancakes were a bit thin for me personally. The syrup they gave it with was very unique. It was a lot thinner and more watery and the whipped cream on top only had a bit of sugar and was fluffy and light. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit. We were there last Spring, showed up about at about 7 am on a Saturday, and had no wait. Glad we went; if you go, get the sausages.
